there is a website http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ bp where it shows the size of the oil spill compared to where you live. It really helps put the size of the problem in perspective. I'm quite surprised at how bad the response has been to this problem, particularly the US government. They seem so slow to react to anything, the same with katrina before. With so many scientists in the world you would think someone could come up with an idea to deal with this. Haven't people thought about this possibility before? we've been drilling from these offshore wells for a long time

I also have a DSi. I don't like that I can't play the GBA games because I never had one of those. What I want now though is the new bigger model as my hands are quite big.The games on it aren't that great to look at, but there are quite a few games that are really fun to play. I would like a PSP too if I had more money.

I don't like the way that people always point to things like marijuana and say that it is bad but then drugs from doctors are good. Things just aren't that easy to classify. for example:there are certain cultures which use mind altering substances in rituals that have significance to their religion or society, which are good uses for what those people would consider bad drugs.and then on the other hand, you have people who abuse prescription medication, there are kids in some places that have parties where they all bring whatever pills and things they can find and all share them, things like valium, ritalin etc which are legal but in that perspective, are being used in a bad wayPersonally, the two worst drugs that cause the most damage to peoples health and their lives are alcohol and tobacco. They cause more deaths than all the other drugs combined. Also, marijuana can have medicinal effects like pain relief and helping people get appetites when they are sick and going through other treatments, so to write them off as only for bad uses isn't the right thing to do

I've used lightspeed for about a year. like others have posted you aren't going to be able to quit your job on the money you make but if you have spare time during a break at work or something it is nice to make some extra money. Lightspeed make $5 deposits to your paypal account withing a couple of days of requesting the money. Some other sites I do surveys for send you gift vouchers which I just use for my groceries but paypal is more flexible with what you can use it for.

Ages ago when I worked at this place I stumbled across a way to edit something in the registry on windows 2000 so that it would display the contents of another directory on the desktop along with the normal icons. I can't find how I did it, and if it is posssible to achieve this on windows xp. does anyone know how to do this, or any tools that will do the same thing?

rvalkass is right. most of the spam on forums is done by "spambots". the tactics he mentioned about verification questions when a user signs up will get rid of most of these, good moderators and admins should be able to deal with the rest without causing any disruption to your users.

let me try and translate for you: People say My game will be much better than your below average game.... once it is released Excuse me, how can you make such an assumption before it is released. It could be like another hyped game that failed to deliver. a sarcastic comment regarding the fact that most impressive games require the latest most expensive hardware to run properly. hope that cleared up what was being said. whilst I agree that it is stupid to try and claim anything is better than anything else until it is released, most games appeal to a certain group of people, so different people will like different games. It's stupid trying to compare most things, it would be like comparing apples and cheeseburgers.

The leader of the US will influence things all over the world, so it is important to everyone who becomes president. This is highlighted by what bush managed to do with pulling half the world into the wars in iraq and afghanistan. It is a shame that most of the people who end up voting in an election have no idea about politics, or the people they are voting for. Here in australia you are required by law to vote. And it means you get so many people who vote based on the propaganda ads on tv. In australia we had an election a while ago where the guy who won would literally say anything to anyone to get elected. He made so many promises, a lot of which he can't or hasn't lived up to.I think there should be some sort of IQ test before you can vote, or a check to see if you know anything about the people you are actually voting for. It would help to make sure the right people get elected for the job, instead of the most popular.

I Hate The Bastardizing Of The English Language! Chat Slang
terminal2k replied to Jeremie's topic in The Vent
there is a time and a place for everything. when you are sending a text message on your phone or an instant message online I think its perfectly acceptable to shorten everything. when you are on a forum I would expect most words to be typed out correctly and in full. Maybe have a LOL at the end of a funny post or sentance. When writing an essay you should always use proper words. It is all linked to a dumbing down of society. If we travelled to the future, would we even understand people anymore? or would they be walking around going OMGROFLZORS!!!1111 -
i don't feel like punching my boss very often, all the managers where I work have no idea how to manage anything. However some of my co-workers make me want to punch them all the time

i also believe that the ps2 is still a good enough console. I'm in a similar position but with the xbox and 360. i have an original xbox and there are still plenty of games I haven't played. I'm not that fussed about updating to the next generation I just want to have fun. Like i've said in another thread, playing the original mario brothers games are still fun even though the graphics are so outdated.

Xbox Whats the best xbox game(s) ever?
terminal2k replied to johnenmarcel's topic in Computer Gaming
the halo games were a lot of funmy favourites were the grand theft auto games -
the ps3 has a few advantages, the blu ray capability is one, although I don't really care about things like that, but the cost of buying a ps3 is just too high.the wii is very fun to play, is cheap, may not have as much grunt under the hood, but that isn't what gaming is about. You can still go back and play classic games like the original mario games, and they are still as fun to play today as they were all those years ago. I believe any machine that has to rely on graphics is setting itself up to be unfulfilling, like when you see a big budget movie with all the special effects but a weak storyline or bad acting.

I did the same thing when I was younger, I went to school less than fifty percent of the time I was supposed to. I used to sit at home and watch tv, or play video games, or when my friends were also skipping school, we'd meet up and hang out. Like everyone else I wish I could go back in time and change what I did. Perhaps this is the tack you should take with your kids. Are there any friends or relatives that you have that the kids look up to or are good friends with? someone who can have a talk about how they regret not finishing school? It could help motivate them to keep going to school.

Noone Online At This Time..? where is everyone?
terminal2k replied to bthaxor's topic in General Discussion
a system like that would never work. also if there is nobody online then there won't really be anyone to see the spamming or whatever is going on. a mod should be get on before too many people have ever noticed.something that would perhaps be more useful would be to limit the number of posts a new member can make in a small timeframe.always good to suggest new ideas though. -
hehe, it says something about women drivers <_<It amazes me the way that sydney's train system is so bad. One problem anywhere on the train network can cause problems all over sydney. The government was supposed to be spending heaps of money fixing it, last I heard only some of the work was actually going to get done. Now they are too busy going on about the new north west metro line that they're spending billions of dollars on. shame I don't live in the north west.I feel like kicking everyone who voted for the government in the last state election. I mean, everyone was complaining about hospitals and schools and transport and then they go and vote the same people back in again.ARGH

Know Anyone Who Has To Do Something Each Day?
terminal2k replied to Dagoth Nereviar's topic in General Discussion
there are people out there who have certain mental issues. i've read about people who have obsessive compulsive disorder and do certaing things like wash their hands fifty times a day. go see matchstick men, its a movie with nicholas cage where he plays a guy sortof like that. although the guy you talk about doesn't sound quite like he has a mental problem. maybe he doesn't like having anything in his nose, or maybe it might affect his breathing. -
i do spend a lot of time in front of computers. monday to friday i spend around six hours a day using one at work. then when i get home i use them another 2 hours or more and then different amounts of time on the weekend depending on what i get up to.At home my main computer is in the livingroom, the screen is right next to my tv. I will usually have the compter running a lot even when i'm not using it with my instant messaging programs running if one of my friends wants something, or I'll look something up that was on tv. or check the tv guide online. Its so convenient to have it there and ready. with wireless keyboards and mouses it has become just another part of my livingroom.I would find it very difficult to live without computers. My job at work would be quite a bit more difficult (and would probably need more than two people to actually do) but it woud be the things I take for granted now like being able to access information so quickly. to be able to do my banking and pay bills at any time I want. to communicate so easily and quikly, I can't imagine going back to writing people letters which would take DAYS to get to the recepiant. As far as people using computers too much.. It really depends on if the computer is really affecting your life. Just reading through the replies here makes me wonder if people realise how much their computer is affecthing them. Social interaction isn't the same as chatting on the computee with your friends. especially when the people you chat to are people you don't know in real life. A lot of people these days find it easier to talk to people over the internet then talk to their neighbour next door, or the people that they work with. anyway i'm ranting on a bit now. but I hope some of you understand what I'm trying to say.....

it is quite sad the way most products are produced these days. from computers, gaming consoles, mobile (cellular) phones, IPODS etc, as things get more complex they end up breaking down a hell of a lot more. I remember back when phones were black an white screens and very basic, you really needed to smash them around to break them. same thing with computers, I have PCs from over 13 years ago who have had no hardware problems in all that time, no PC sold today would be running fine in 13 years. Consoles are evil these days too, games crashing, consoles needing repairs. in the good old days all you ever needed to do was take out the cartridge and blow on it. some of you will remember those days. My biggest gripe though is IPODS. they are the one peice f hardware that seems to have the highest failure rate, with many people needing to have theirs replaced more than once, something i have never heard of happening before. In short IPODS suck, and new generation electronics need to focus more on reliability rather than features and price.

wow, rock vs rap, like others have said its like apples vs oranges (personally i like bananas lol) the two genres have their pros and cons and i do enjoy listening to both of them as far as rock is concerned, this is something i started listening to when i was younger and i think generally has a broader appeal, I can remember the first cd i ever owned was a rock cd i got for my birthday when i was about 7 years old. Growing up I can remember listeing to songs i consider classics today, like the old faith no more with tracks like epic and then theres metallica and their songs, one of my favourites being one (off and justice for all) if you like metallica and haven't seen the film clip for one I reccomend you try and find it on youtube or something and have a watch, its a great clip. as I got older I listened to some more varied styles of rock from things like slipknot and tool, to linkin park and stuff like that. now as far as hip hop is concerned, i listened to a lot of the US stuff as I grew up, all the same stuff everyone listened to. cypress hill, wu-tang, dr dre, snoop dogg, etc. nowadays however I get my hip-hop locally. australia has some great acts around, but with such a small population there isn't the same kind of market as the US and most acts don't get the exposure they deserve. Most australians have heard of the hilltop hoods, definatly the most successful hip-hop group down here but there are some other great crews and mc's. heres some links so you overseas people can hear some of the stuff i'm talking about the nurcha records mixtapes http://www.mp3.com.au/rg-erdr.php?_rpo=t the prime records mixtape http://www.mp3.com.au/rg-erdr.php?_rpo=t and for something with parodies of more popular songs check weapon x and ken hell https://www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=illflow&e=com (you need to sign up to download)

as funny as that story is, I can't help but wonder what the world will be like for our children, and their children, and their children..... Humans seem to be less and less civilized, and constantly improe the ways to kill each other. Then we pollute the planet and use up all the natural resources. I think if we don't manage to kill ourselves in the next few decades that we'll probably end up moving to live on the moon, or on mars, because the earth won't be able to support life anymore.I suppose its not that surprising when people will pay money for poison even though they know it will kill them (tobacco) and are happy to pollute the places they live. We're supposed to be the smartest beings on the planet but are we really?

i sometimes use torpark, it is a good idea being able to have people not know what you are doing online, however the speed decrease that is suffered when using the tor network is too great for me to use it for my general web browsing. i would only use it to do things i shouldn't be doing, or to pretend to be someone else online, or to get around some kind of IP ban.as for the usability of the software itself, if you have used firefox before you will be fine using this, the only real difference you'll notice are the tor buttons that are added so you can choose to turn on or off the tor connection. this enables you to switch between the slower anonymouns browsing and your regular fast but not private internet connection.having a browser that you can run off a usb drive doesn't mean much to me as I have already been using portable firefox to do the same thing for some time, and i prefer to use this. but if you want a way to browse the internet anonymously from wherever you are certainly try it out.
