yeah dude, it's not the end of the world! For all your browsing needs, dialup works fine! It's just when you want to download big files that broadband is most useful... and even then, it's not necissarily the answer... i've got 256K broadband and only 300 MB a month, so the biggest program i could download is 50 MB or something without pushing the allowance over the limit.also, you're parents are just trying to do what they think is best. i don't reckon it'd be as easy as it looks to make decisions like that from their point of view :PAlso, your dialup internet should work fine with linux if you have a compatible modem... i reckon you could probably pick one up for less than $50 if you go to a computer fair or something.Don't let it get to you man- we don't always understand peoples decisions, but sometimes we've just got to accept them... specially if they're your parents :Dpeace out

lol far better than the storyline from Tekken 5! also if you want to actually develop it, I'd reccomend the following... C++ instead of VB (trust me, I've used both, C++ is faster and more powerful) also check out the following sites: http://www.gametutorials.com/ - lots of great tutorials and a very active forum, although you need to buy the tutorials now. might be worth it though darkbasic.thegamecreators.com - great game creation software for hobbyists. I'd strongly reccomend it, although I've never used it. ok nice work!!! keep up the great stuff

Hey guysI'm overhauling my website and have decided instead of using frames I want to just have a logo and buttons integrated into each HTML file, so you can just scroll down past it. I want the logo at the very top, before any content.I was wondering if there is any way of doing it with an HTML tag (i.e. not PHP or any other scripts) so the header just gets inserted right after the opening <BODY> tag. I'm thinking that possibly it uses the <link> tag, but really I don't have much of an idea.Thanks in advance for your suggestions.Peace out

Yeah that'll help alot- I learnt C++ from a book focusing on .NET and pretty much just learnt from my own mistakes... I learnt it alright, but it took forever and was so frustrating!!On that note, be careful that you stick to standard C++ and not the .NET extensions while you're still learning. Although it's easier at first, it skips over some fundamentals that are very important later.Make sure you utilize a book as well. Also I went from VB to C++ (with a slight detour through Java) and it wasn't all that bad. Especially if you've finished high school :Pall the best!

hey!I haven't had a look at all of your code in heaps of depth, but from the basic level, it SEEMS like you're doing things the hard way. (I'm not entirely sure of it though )From the looks of your code, it seems that you are creating one chapter, and then that chapter has a pointer that links to another chapter, and so on and so forth in a recursive kind of way ... in relation to that, wouldn't you just be better off making an array of list_nodes, and then in each list_node make an array of tree_nodes? Once again, just a suggestion, I'm not entirely sure about that, as I don't quite understand if the tree structure has a specific purpose or if it's a means to an end.On that note, you're crashes could be in relation to that- i've seen LOGO crash a few times from recursive function calling (mind you, LOGO is an old language). Apart from that, you seem to do a lot of memory management stuff. You might just want to CAREFULLY check over that: I've found heaps of bugs in my programs from memory management problems and I avoid it as much as possible!Ultimately, i think you'd probably be better off just using a string class to hold each word, and then use arrays to link your list_nodes and tree_nodes together.Ok, hope i've helped. i don't think that people will post reviews for hosting/storage space, as it's readily and freely available at multiple places on the net.maybe a reputation system would work? that could provide people with some incentive to post.and some people just like to be heard! some people will just post because they want their opinion to get out there.maybe you could allow comments to be added after a review... i think you're biggest playing card in the end is going to be the same as Xisto's (for example)- community. People enjoy the community on sites like that.good luck Elegost, all the best. -
like the layout. nice and easy to read- except the right-hand column (Author, Calendar, etc.)- you might want to darken the font a little bit on this.also you have some incredibly cool signatures. may i suggest though removing duplicates (ie. same picture, different names).good work on the tutorials and psd files, great to see that you're giving back to the community.your site definately looks like it has a lot of potential and credibility.good stuff! B)also can i ask who you're hosted with? one of my friends wants to set up a website... i told him about Xisto but he says he can't make the effort to post...cheers mate. keep up the good work

yeah, that's a pretty great story... i like reading things like that, but generally the ones that come around in email forwards are really corny...in all honesty, though, some things you just don't forget. the amount of code is huge! check the famous "hello world" program: shakespearelang.sourceforge.net/report/shakespeare/shakespeare.html#sec:hello seems a bit excessive, hey! good for a laugh though. I love the super-overuse of adjectives in all honesty, though, i can't understand why you would want to program in it when ultimately you could just do the same thing in C++ with about a tenth of the code heaps funny though. congratulations for finding it! cheers.

Firstly congratulations that you have such a huge game operation happening, although I must ask, if you have 30 people working on it already, surely some of them can handle that sort of stuff, especially the simple things like voice acting.Not saying i know a lot about making games, but my advice is:When making a game, it is best to have the people physically there in the room with you for stuff like coding / artistry / website design and everything else. It gives you a much better way of communicating and expressing your ideas, which means you can work together better. It's very hard doing any kind of major project over the Internet, let alone something as full-scale as what you're talking about. Possible, but difficult. Maybe you should find a couple of people in your town/area who are keen to make a game to work with you.If any of your coders have any trouble with C++, i know a bit about it myself (and somebody called mamasoap is brilliant at it): post in the Computers->Programming Languages->C/C++ forum.Also there's some great sprites available all over the Internet- Google Search should provide you with some results.Good Luck mate and all the best.cheers

Galahad has an interesting point, there, except from memory Windows XP does not automatically log into an account unless you have an autologin set up with Powertoys for Windows XP (great software by the way, released by Microsoft but in no way supported).Anyways, Erwin_X had a really good point there about HTML/internet background files. In Windows 98 and ME this was referred to as "Active Desktop" and it needed to be enabled not only to have web pages (eg, HTML) for your desktop image but also to have JPEG's, PNG's and GIF's as your background image too. A bitmap file used to come up, and then, while your desktop was loading, the proper background image loaded too.By default, Windows backgrounds can only handle BMP files (i've disabled some Windows setting on my PC, and so now i can't use JPEG's, GIF's, etc.). What you'll probably find is happening is something similar to what used to go on in Windows 98/ME - the standard bitmap background loads first, and then, while the rest of your desktop loads, the PNG/JPEG/GIF/whatever file loads on top.A simple solution (this is what I do on my computer) is to just convert any non-BMP format graphics that you want to set as your background. Just open them in Paint or any other graphics program and "Save As..." with a type "Bitmap" - these have extension BMP or DIB.Hope I've helped

haha that's really funny.... i didn't have trouble finding the reply link... that was easy... what got me was the dreaded "COMPOSE MAIL" button... it took me about 5 minutes to find it. lol i was starting to wonder if you actually could send email to people... :)anyway, i love the Gmail interface... its so simple! sure it takes a bit of getting used to like anything else, but the concept is absolutely magic! just so smooth and simple and user friendly.I must say though, i do miss my "delete" button :)cheers -

i agree with Reatum! the computers at my school are heaps restrictive.... i can't use anything with tabbed browsing... ARGHHH!!! but there's my point- it means that we can't 'just upgrade them'. also some people's operating systems can't handle new web browsers. you have to cut them some slack, maybe they can't afford a new comp. my main annoyance is Firefox and IE interpret things differently... this caused major grief on my website for a while

well i know that if i look at a computer screen for 6 hours straight it starts to hurt my eyes a bit... lol i guess that's a kind of hypnosis it wouldn't surprise me if it worked though, i mean, people claim that listening to certain types of music can make you smarter... mind you, i'm a bit skeptical about that too. actually, speaking of games that can hypnotise people, has anyone heard of mutant storm or space tripper? yeah, i'd agree with Plenoptic on this one... sometimes a dark layout just suits the stuff on the website better.Dark schemes look really good as long as they're simple - they just get annoying when they are cluttered and full of ads and heaps of different colours. at the moment on my website (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ i'm using a black-fluro green colour scheme. I'm generally pretty happy with the look, although i'll admit it can get hard to read after a while. Generally it uses the idea of black vs a limited number of lighter colours. actually, Razor has a really good layout on his website... it maintains an appropriate mood and is reasonably easy to read. check it out... razor.trap17.com. peace out

there's a few ways of doing it :POne way is to fiddle with the BIOS, although this is only for professionals. It's very, very difficult unless you know what you are doing. Find a guide on the net if you want to do it this way.Your PC motherboard may have come with some software that will overclock your system for you (sounds ridiculous, hey?)Mine did, and I had it overclocked for a while... which was all well and good until it started spontaneously crashing and stuff. i really wouldn't recommend it. And you really don't get any huge speed bonuses or anything anyways.Peace out. -
I would just like to take a moment to mention my claim to fame....I've been putting lime in Coke since 2003!! ha! at the time i thought it was kinda brilliant, but then Coke sorta did it too....anyways, just thought i'd say if you ever get a chance, try putting real lime juice in Coke... it tastes absolutely brilliant.and sorry i can't help about the song

hey, first i'd like to say, nice work! secondly, i would worry about 41 degrees celcius - my computer was running at 71 when i first bought it.... it now has 5 fans (that's right- FIVE) and now it runs at 55-61. i really wouldn't be stressed about 41. as for your question about the plastic fan, i don't think anything under 50 should melt plastic.... but wouldn't hurt to be extra careful anyways cheers mate, once again - good stuff! later

um yeah, kinda funny, i was been experiencing something similar last term... i was recieving (on average) 3 assignments per 2 weeks in English! hey eventually it dies down though, now i get hardly anything for English, it's great......well, up until 2 weeks, when on Tuesday the teacher told us we had to have read the whole of Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar" by the next Tuesday.....homework is like that though. it ebbs and flows and stuff, sometimes life is nice and easy, sometimes it bites.personally, i'm finding myself just hanging out for the next set of holidays :Pdon't let it get you down bro, it's only gunna be there a little while.

You know, it might not be that people are only annoying at the worst times...Chances are that people are just as annoying all the time, but when you have a headache and lots of work that needs doing you get stressed way faster.When you get stressed, you find the little things that wouldn't normally annoy you actually get to you a whole lot more.Sure look out for yourself, but when you get angry at people and they don't have a clue what they're doing wrong, it often causes more trouble than it's worth in the long run. It makes it harder to mend the conflict.In a way, you're probably looking out for yourself more by showing some patience. And yeah, I know that requires more effort and that it's hard (especially when you have a headache) but sometimes you just have to keep trying.Don't let it get to you.And get some sleep. It'll help that headache of yours.

you could probably just check the product stats from the manufacturer's websites for each product. They will definately have stats like signal range there.The Apple products are usually a tad pricier, but they generally are very high quality (especially as of late).Also, Linksys is a smaller company (most companies are smaller than Apple) so they may not have as good customer service and support.Apple are selling their cards at a higher price for one of two reasons:1/ Their cards may be better, or2/ They are playing off their brand name.choose wisely friend. :Pcheers!
