I also use zend for php. But for HTML I used ACE HTML. It is an editor - not a WYSIWYG program. I agree with the earlier comment about the code that an editor like front page creates. For starters, the page ends up being very heavy with unncessary code. As for HTML being "visual" (another previous post), we create our sites first in photoshop and then break them up. I have dreamweaver but rarely use it because it has in the past messed up some of my code. But it is an easy way to work with tables. (Back in the day) I learned HTML with a basic editor called Ken Nesbit's web edit. It was not much more than notepad.

Though an interesting read, I likely would have come up with different ones. I think I would only keep a few of his commandments. Here's my thoughts after designing hundreds of sites over the course of a decade. I would have put the nagivation as #1. The hardest thing is to get someone to click. Keep your navigatoin simple, at the top and consistent on every page. There should be no learning curve for visitors. And #2 would be to treat your site as a "drive thru menu". In other words, keep it short. Rather than listing every service you offer, put the most important ones. Keep your graphics files small and design your pages so that they load quickly. On that note, your graphics should never have jagged edges or be stretched or shrunk by your html code. #3 is use of colour. Colour has to be the right blend of contrast and eye gravity (and eye candy). Text must be clear to read, ideally dark on white (or very light). Use minimal amounts of colour but use it wisely when you want something to stand out. (Too much of anything is a bad thing.) #4 remember that movement causes the eye to gravitate. It should be minimized on the page, but should exist where you want to draw attention to something. #5 Flash should be an element, not a structure. Putting flash elements into your site allows you to add things that flicker and alternate. Sites should not be built in flash as it interferes with navigation and SE indexing. Use flash as a tool only. Flash intro pages are a waste of time. Most people hit the skip button anyway. #6 Make it easy for your prospects to connect with you. Don't hide behind your web site. Put your phone number on every page. (For the most part a contact page is a waste of a click.) Put this information in your header or footer. Besides it will help with SE indexing anyway. Consider "live-help" options too. #7 Test and monitor your results. Review your goals and your results regularly. Is your site doing what you aimed for? Why or why not? Test ... tweak ... and improve. Your site is not a static island unto itself. Keep it up to date. Keep it accurate and free of coding errors and typos. Keep it interesting. Give your customers and visitors a reason to return. Your site must be updated. Businesses evolve. New clients are added to your roster and your business always has something new to say. (So say it!) Regular changes to your site will keep the google bot coming back to your site to re-index it. The more often you update it, the more often it will return. #8 Advertise your site in the real world. Put your URL on everything that has your company name on it. #9 Your site must "accomplish something" for your business. Understand what your goal is. Consider the ultimate goal ... make every visitor determine if they are a prospect or not ... and then have them tell you. Establish realistic goals and expectations. Keep in touch with your visitors. Develop two lists (customers and prospects.) Use email regulary to communicate with them. Don't treat the internet as an inherintly different medium than the real world. If you wouldn't do it in the real world, don't do it on your site. Time honoured busines practices still apply on "the net". #10 Never use microsoft frontpage. HTML should be hard coded. It isn't hard so don't be lazy. I'm not sure if I'm in the right sub-forum or not ... but if this should be somewhere else please feel free to relocate!I have uploaded this PHP app to my server with plans to install it (It's a program like aweber.com)I made the database and started following the installation instructions.The instructions say to run the SQL file (autoresponder.sql). I haven't done this before in phpmyadmin as most php apps I have installed also have an installation script.Needless to say, I got an error: There seems to be an error in your SQL query. The MySQL server error output below, if there is any, may also help you in diagnosing the problemERROR: Unknown Punctuation String @ 5 MySQL said: Documentation#1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax. I have watched a number of them. It's interesting to note that the material presented by Alex Mandossian is almost word for word following the "monopolize your marketplace" approach which I came across years ago. I just don't know if they copied from him, or he copied from them. Even the examples are the same. We call ourselves the anti-agency agency ... what just about any other agency will tell you to do ... is contrary to what we say.

When we bought Photoshop 3 in the mid 90's I thought we were set.Then we started paying a fortune every year for upgrades to the newest versions.Yuk.It's great that the adobe apps keep improving, but on the other hand it's pretty tough to keep on top of it financially. Thanks for the heads up!!!

I just finished watching a truly amazing seminar that was presented by Declan Dunn. We've been developing web sites for over a decade and have learned a temendous amount over the years. Many of the things that Declan says in this presentation are right in line with my own opinions and listening to him speak was very inspiring. He has good examples and tells you "what's what" from his experience - not just his opinion. This seminar was part of a conference in Australia that attendees paid $3000 to attend. If you don't live in or near Quebec in Canada you have likely never heard of something called BILL 101.Bill 101 came out a few dacades ago (early 80's I believe) as a goal to protect the french language and culture in Quebec. Quebec is a province which is primarily french-speaking, while most of Canada is english. Some of the laws that were part of bill 101 were that children who were born in Quebec must go to a french speaking school, and that all signage whether road signs or commercial signage had to be in french.In 1985 I was a teenager and attended a 6 week summer camp which was french, near Quebec City. I was one of only a handful of people who spoke english, but was fluent in French.A young lady asked told me that she thought it was unfair that she had no opportunity to learn english and felt that it was going to hold her back as an adult. I agreed with her. Not because english was my first language, but because so much of the world's commerce is in english. And as houdini pointed out, it is also the language of airlines and freight/transport.I really applaud people who see the benefit of learning languages. And it is easier to do when you are young. (BTW my daughter goes to a French Immersion schoool even though we live in a part of Canada that is likely 99% english.)Way to go CrazyPensil. Keep up the good work. For those of us who's first language is english we'll try to help. Your language in your post is obviously quite good. But in forums it's often hard to tell if someone's grammar is poor, or if they are just typing quicker than they can think (and then don't proof.) I'll comment on one phrase: my life was desaturated with all those stuff that most of others had, such as cool toys etc. I would not say desaturated. (I think it actually isn't a word.) Instead I would have said two words, "not saturated" And secondly, stuff is a singular word, which means you should have said "that stuff" Finally, you should drop the word "of" in your phrase most of others to just say most others. But remember where I began ... it was clear what you were trying to say. (Just ever so slightly "broken".) Keep up the great work!

Well like most people on here I have an extensive list which would take me quite a while to post.But on my paid software list I would have to say that one of my favorites is photoshop elements. I got it in a bundle when I bought a new scanner, which given the price of a scanner it was a great deal. Since I'm not a graphic designer it's a great tool. It does everything I need it to.Some of my other free ones that I frequently include:Audio Archive Compressor (love it)FirefoxWSFTP (so old that it was free when I got it.)Winzip (so old that it was free when I got it.)DVD DecrypterFor several years I paid for all the adobe apps for video and photo editing. But the cost of keeping the software current kept getting higher and higher. So the versions I have at the moment I can honestly say are not licensed.MS Office Professional I also received free as I knew someone who worked for a company that was a partner to MS. They were able to pick up copies pretty cheap. (legal versions.) I believe it was $10 or $30 - given the actual cost of the program I consider what I got it for to be free.Excell is one of my most used apps.

What version of Nero are you using? Once upon a time I had nothing but problems with Nero. But I haven't had any issues with it for over a year now. I've been doing DVD authoring for about 5 years, and back when I began most of the software out there (for example Nero) was unreliable. What I had to do was use WINAVI to make my VOB files, and then use Nero to burn the VOB's. It seemed that I couldn't get Nero to do the "conversion" step without crashing. So I'm thinking that perhaps you have an older version, or maybe you would like to take a look at WINAVI. Now nicely enough, I also found that WINAVI is faster at converting than most of the other apps I have tried. It will also aloow you to easily make real media files and/or other small web-type multi-media formats. Gin

I know three people that got banned from google. Google said that the account was "related" to another previously banned account. When asked for more information they said they were unable to disclose their alogorithm for determining it. But these were first time adsense users. I know FOR SURE there was no hanky panky going on.

One of my fav's is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ put there images there when they are done with them, so other designers can use them for other projects.We used to use gettyimages a lot until a few years ago when they completely changed their format.Personally I find Corbis a bit pricy.
