I think if you want it more performant you can install Linux on your computer i.s.o. Windows. And then use lamp (it's the same as xampp but for linux).Linux will mostelikely faster since it doesn't need a graphical interface to run the server, and it has more memory available. For routing a dynamic domain to your computer , you must setup an account on the site dyndns.org.The you can change the ip adress by the dns name.Watch out you have to install an updater when you have an dynamic ip adress. The updater can also be found on the website of dyndns.org .

Ata Raid Masive, Dos It Expensif i want to build an ata raid masif
kdr_98 replied to server2's topic in Hardware Workshop
You can also place a special RAID card in your computer. With the built-in on tha mainboard , you can only configure RAID 0, RAID 1 (and sometimes RAID 0+1).With the special RAID controller, also RAID 5 is possible. Also a software RAID is possible , but this is slower then a hardware RAID.RAID 0 is the most secure , every thing is on both drives.RAID 1 is the fastest since the data is spread over both disks.RAID 0+1 is a combination of the above.RAID 5 is with at least 3 (identical) drives. -
If you choose IP adresses for your private LAN , you should use always Private adresses.Otherwise the adress range you use can't be reached on the internet, since they are routed to your local LAN.The private adresses are : 10.xx.xx.xx (Class A : default network mask : 255.0.0.0) 172.[16-32].xx.xx (Class B : default network mask : 255.255.0.0) 192.168.[0..254].xx (Class C: default network mask : 255.255.255.0)Normaly a Class C adress should be enough , since you can connect almost 240 computers. If you have a firewall with 2 zone's (green and Orange) you can use 2 class C ranges.Private adresses are never routed over the internet so they are directly reachable over the internet. If he has an extra computer (maybe an older one) , he can always configure this as linux router. Some pakkets are available for this like : freesco , IPCOP , smoothwall , ... They are more safe and quicker then Microsoft ICS.

All depends on your budget and needs.A wireless network in a Office environnement is not realy a good idea I think. The best is still a wired connection on the PC's since they have the most reliable connection. For the rest I think you need a good firewall on your internet connection to secure your network. It's also good for security that you split your network in 2 parts :with the public servers (mail and web) on the orange interface, and your local Computers on the green interface. For the remote access you can setup some VPN access. You can build this router yourself with open source software (IPCOP , ... ) if you like. For the rest , you can setup some servers with Windows and/or linux.

When you have connected the 2 PC's with a cross cable. You need to setup an IP adress for both PC's manual since you have no DHCP server. If you want an internet connection on the MAC, you need to install some extra software on your windows PC.(ICS might work but no sure since the other PC is a MAC).The best range for the ip adresses is in the range 192.168.xx.xxMake sure that both network interfaces on the windows PC are in a different lan segment. For ex . wireless : 192.168.1.xxx crosscable : 192.168.100.xxxThe subnetmask can be setup as 255.255.255.0 For the xxx you can choose anything between 1 and 254 (255 is used for broadcast).

Watching Television On Your Pc How do I do it without buying a TV Tuner
kdr_98 replied to darran's topic in Hardware Workshop
If your not familar with PC hardware, you could best buy an external one (connected with USB).Or let your hardware supplier install it (if you are familar with it , it takes only 5 mins). -
The way I solve this problem is :- Look if the power-on button is correctly connected to the motherboard.- Look if your video card is right inserted in your computer.I maybe a bit loose and you computer doens't give an image.- Does your computer make any (special) sounds during startup.(the beeps during startup maybe indicating some memory faults, bios faults, ... )- If you PC still doesn't startup :- Disconnect the Floppy drive, Hard drive, CD Rom drive from the Power Supply. If your PC starts up now , some of th above must be faulty.Shutdown the PC and connect them one by one again till the problem rises again. If all this doesn't work you need to swap hardware with spare parts , like Power supply, mainbord, ...

Watching Television On Your Pc How do I do it without buying a TV Tuner
kdr_98 replied to darran's topic in Hardware Workshop
First of all are you meaning Analogue Television or Digital Television ?For Analogue Television you need a TV card in your PC , there is no other way.For Digital Television , you need to connect your PC on the place you have a MPEG stream on an ehternet interface. At my place it's easy since I have IP television over DSL.Then you just have to connect your PC in the same VLAN as your setup box.Use a sniffer to detect to the IP adress and TCP port of the stream. And then use VLC to make the stream visible, then you have aslo some extra features like time-shifting, recording a stream, .... .If you are using Satelite you als have to use a satelite card for the conversion to IP pakkets. All of this works if the stream is not encoded, but most operator have their streams encoded in Europe. -
I think I'll do the same on some computers.Linux seems to a lot better then Windows and most important of all it's free.Witch distribution I will use , I think Ubuntu (or Kubuntu) and for the office applications you can use OpenOffice.

Since you are saying your PSU is external, maybe one of the cables on the mainboard will be a bit loose. There are normally 2 connectors connected on the mainboard (1 with 4 pins and 1 with 20(24) pins).Mostlikely the big one is not completely connected.Open the case and check the cables. When the case has no screws , you have to use a trick to remove the top cover.Mostly this is the case with brand computers (like HP/COMPAQ, Dell , ... ).

No Startup Response Wont respond to disc or cd or Cant Safe Mode
kdr_98 replied to jlhaslip's topic in Hardware Workshop
The problem that the CD drive isn't reconised could be a wrong DOS driver for the CD/DVD drive. You have to edit the config.sys on the boot floppy to install a working driver. When you are in DOS (from the boot floppy) also execute an fdisk /mbr to rewrite your masterboot record. This could solve your problem booting from CD ROM.Haven't you got the install disks of Windows 2000, because this is the original OS on your Laptop. And it works prob. better then Windows 98. -

There is somthing I don't understand : you are saying the drive is formated (does this mean a format only or changing the partition table as well ? ).When your drive is foramted you can't go to safe mode since your drive doesn't contain an Operating System. For placing Windows 98 SE , you may need to change the partition from NTFS (Windows 2k or XP) to FAT32 (Windows 98), since Windows 98 has no support for NTFS.So now :You can try booting from a floppy drive is you have a floppy drive. You can even install Windows 98 starting from a floppy. If you want Windows XP on the laptop you need to boot from a linux live CD.Remove the main partition (watchout there maybe an extra partion for your BIOS , don't delete this !! ).And then try rebooting from you Windows XP or Windows 98 CDNOte : It goes a lot better with the recovery CD/DVD deleverd with your Laptop. -
Make Firefox 4x Faster. Get DSL Speeds With Dial-up on firefox.
kdr_98 replied to Benz1435's topic in The Internet
Those last can be used on a broadband connection (xDSL or Cable) as well. The settings are also in a default windows configuration and can be used with Internet Explorer as well. -
If you have a dialup connection it won't go any faster since all your bandwith is mostly used with 1 connection. The advantages of a dowload manager are : - You can resume when your connection is broken with the server. - You can start several connections (to the same servers or different server) containing the same file. (in this case your download can go a lot faster if you have enough bandwith). In most cases a download manager only makes sence when downloading big files on a slow server. Or if your internet connection breaks often. I use (from time to time) free download manager. http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm You can install it in serveral languages and it's free. It's not the default downloader on my computer, I only start it when I need it.

In most laptops you can remove the CD/DVD drive easy (at least with HP/Compaq).So you can call the store and ask that you may just send the CD/DVD drive to them.Maybe if you remove your drive and place it again in your Laptop , your problem may also be solved.Mare infomation about removing (or replacing the drive) can be found in your user manual.

Are you playing (original) DVD-video or Ripped versions. If you are playin ripped DVD files , you need the right codecs (You can find some on the site http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm) Else your PC may contain some spyware / adware / virusses. Try removeing those file with a spyware scanner and / or virus scanner. You can also try cc Cleaner to remove temporary files , ... After those programs your computer could work a bit faster. Another cause might be that you are playing them from a CD/DVD drive thats to slow to hanlde the videostream ,try moveing a file to your harddrive, and play it from your harddrive. If it's working normally from your harddrive look at the cache from your CD/DVD drive. Setting this cache a bit higher may also solve your problem.

How Do You Combine Removable Drives In To One Big Drive?
kdr_98 replied to Robbie Rotten's topic in Hardware Workshop
The only thing you have to watch for , is that there is enough space left for the swapfile. Because of the swap file can't grow if it needs to you may have some virual memory problems. Otherwise a framented disk can also slow down the system (if the swap file is in use !). -
I have just installed it with a 'Windows Update' a few hours ago.Looks a bit different so far no problems, for me it works at least at the speed of IE 6.

I'm playing it since a few years.I'm playing once a week in a (local) small club, but I don't play any competition.

I think it's not possible. From english to an other language is possible is you have Windows XP Prof. (this pakket is call MUI)But is your windows is French it's most likly the French version. It's possible that teher are on your hard drive some recovery files. Here in Belgium when you start a laptop for the first time you get the choice to install Windows In English , French or Dutch (I don't know if it deletes the other languages after starting up).Ofcourse in France (Paris) they have only one language 'French'.Installing it in English can be done if you have the restore disks of the same type of computer in English.(they can be bought by a computer vendor I think )

All depends what you want to do with your sound card.If it's just for playing games and play some MP3 files, almost any soundcard will be good.Mostly I use the soundcard built-in on the mainbord, and I don't place an addional sound card.
