  1. I think emo is more like an 'extension' rather than a genre on its own. My Chemical Romance for example is completely different compared to Secondhand Serenade. It's actualy nothin more than saying 'my music doesn't deal with happy stuff'
  2. It's the first time I've heard about online armor, but from what I read I'll probably never test it. I firewall shouldn't have compatibility problems with any software, that would be like writing an anti-virus program that can't scan half the amount of executables on your computer. Comodo is imho the best free firewall available for the moment, it indeed lacks the annoyance factor that many firewalls have (that is if you disable the defense+ system that asks for too many things) but it's a bit hard to configure at first.Altough I always want to mention Sygate Personal Firewall, it's still the best free firewall available that doesn't support Vista. The only (and I realy mean only) downside is that it has some problems with Mercury Messenger , the firewalls GUI freezes as soon as I launch it.
  3. I used to be prefer KDE over GNOME and XCFE, but since I've installed openSuse with GNOME I totaly changed my mind, gnome has a more slick interface imho . Anyway, I currently am not thinking about switching to it (but then again, the release of opensuse 11 is half a year away from now ).
  4. Flickr is good if you pay for it, the free version is limited to a certain amount of Mb upload per month and the number of photos you can keep is limited too. If I where you I'd simply get a webhost and install Gallery on it
  5. Okay, I'm having this weird problem. I had a subdomain http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ which redericts to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. A while ago it started redericting my to the 'account suspended' page and today I went to check it out again and it still does so . The strange thing is that I can access my root, folders in my root, except the 'jovolka' folder, it keeps redirecting me to the suspended page. I checked out cpanel and guess what, it had changed my subdomainredirection to the suspended page and there was an entry that redirected '.*' to the suspended page. The first one was easily fixed, but the second one wasn't removeable. So I decided to remove my subdomain (jovolka.wutske.astahost.com) hoping this would fix the problem but I still can't access http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (the '.*' -> suspension page entry is gone) uhm, help ?
  6. The best example is when you are writing some document and you need a lot of data that's in another document. On one screen you have the document that you are creating and on the other one you have the data. It's much more convenient than constantly hitting alt-tab. @rbf1787: I'd rather create a big wallpaper (big in terms of being as wide as the 2 monitors) in The GIMP and then setting this as a tiled background. Works great, especialy if both monitors have a different resolution .
  7. Thank you very much for providing the info for openSuse . I'll try it out tomorrow ... my openSuse installation might need some optimalisation because it's not running stable atm
  8. Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles won't become popular untill you can refill them everywhere you want. It's nice that the FCX comes with a hydrogen manufacture system ... but what use is it if you're 500miles away from your garage and the fueltank is empty ? The electric car has the same problem, yes, you can recharge it everywhere you want it ... but who's willing to give their electricity away for free ? Another problem is that 'refilling' such car takes a lot of time, probably several hours. Only a few people are willing to pay more money to get less in order to save the environment. I even doubt the idea that many people think about CO2 emission when they buy a new car (and if they do so, it's probably because they think more about taxes than about the nature ). Back to the 'free electricity' debate . Cold fusion would be nice technology the way you represent it . If one cold fusion station can provide enough electricity to power the world then it's probaly efficient enough to create enough hydrogen to power cars. The only that's left is getting rid of all the oil-consuming engines that are now in use (and that would take a lot of time + it would create a lot of waste too)
  9. solar cells at 0.5% ? Imho they are a lot more efficient than you think, the latest generation of solar panels could reach 30% (or something near that, at least it was a lot more than 0.5%). That doesn't take away that they're still very expensive and even with governement support it takes too long before the investment becomes profitable. The term 'free' energy is something I don't like to use, I'd rather think about ecological/green energy, because that's what it actualy is that we're looking for.
  10. I hardly play the game because I'm realy bad at it, even Laurence could beat me at it . The problem is that I can't concentrate long enough so there is no way I can think about possible strategics, especialy in the beginning. Near the end when I've already lost a lot of pieces and making one wrong move means loosing, I can concentrate a lot beter . Playing against a computer is a no-go, they are way to good and even the dumbest setting is too smart for me .
  11. I'm glad you bumped this post, it's interesting to read how I've felt 2 year ago and to find out what changed in the past 2 years. That friend I was talking about, it's actualy one of my best friends right now! I don't see him that often because he moved for his studies (he does come back in the weekends, but he doesn't have much time due to his studies). I do think a lot different now about him too, I tought he blocked me from finding new friends ... but in fact it's not true! It was all my fault because the same thing is happening again at my new school. I still tend to block myself out a litlle bit, eg. during breaks I don't talk to many of my fellow students . However, I did get to know some great people during the last year at my previous school. Maybe they aren't friends like real friends (those who you can tell everything, those who you see and talk to often, ...), but they do accept my the way I am (I guess ). However, I do however feel like FeedBacker does: I do agree that finding a girl did boost my self-confidense a lot. I knew her for 3 years and we've been together for 6 months (untill 3 days ago when we broke up , this shows that girls work in both directions ... they can make you very happy, but they can also make you feel very depressed ). She made me change, I started doing more than just working (or gaming) on my computer, I started to get feelings, I got more emotional than before ... I matured. I hope that, even tough we aren't a couple anymore and that I'm still feeling a bit depressed now, my life will continue in the positive way as it did during the past 6 months . I still have some mental problems tough. Wherever I go, whoever I meet, I still feel like being the lowest class of human being. I'll always step aside for someone to get past me, it's like I don't care about myself, but only about the others ... I'm not important enough . I'm still a bit shy tough and I still don't like to make contact with unknown people (I even hate making phonecalls). My lack of initiative has improved a bit, tough it's hard since most of my initiative don't have a positive ending.
  12. That's realy cool . I've seen some videos from people trying this out, realy worth the search (for those people who are too lazy to try it themself ).
  13. I recently started using PHP Designer 2007 Personal Edition and I must say I kinda like it . It doesn't offer anything more compared to Notepad++, but the program just feels better (and more professional) to work with . I remember using FirstPage2000 a loooooong time ago, but I can't remember what it was like . I still have the installer, so if anyone is interested
  14. I also have been using Comodo firewall for a while an it's a good one. In the beginning it might be a bit confusing and it's not the most user-friendly firewall available, but it's powerfull and secure. Another great, but older firewall is Sygate Personal Firewall. Imho it's the best (free) firewall ever made, until Symantec took over Sygate . It's not supported by symantec anymore and you won't get any updates anymore, but that doesn't make it a bad firewall (in fact, that's a good thing because hackers arn't looking for security leak in SPF anymore ). You can download it at softpedia: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  15. Overclocking isn't disabled by manufacturers, they've only locked one particular variable that can be used to overclock the cpu and that's the multiplier. The cpu clock is defined by the multiplying the FSB with the multiplier (so a 200Mhz FSB and multiplier 11 results in a 2,2Ghz cpu clock). Nowadays, you can only lower the multiplier which of course results in a lower cpu clock. This doesn't mean you can't overclock, because you can still raise the FSB (until the motherboard/memory can't handle the FSB anymore ).There are however a few cpu's that are completely unlocked (you can freely set the multiplier), AMD sells these cpu's as black editions, Intel only gives these cpu's to a limit group of tester (they're called engineering samples if I remember correctly).@micky123: I don't think AMD is closing down soon. Too many companies would suffer if Intel becomes the only player on the desktop cpu market.
  16. But you can blame them for leaving the exhausts covered or doing a bad job at applying the thermal interface material . But then again, every computer/laptop has it's flaws ... my Dell laptop loses screws .
  17. I dunno. MacOS looks great, is rather easy to use, but it does lack the amount of freeware that is available for windows. If only Apple didn't remove the maxxus patch so we pc users could run MacOS too (even if it were to try it out before buying one of those ridiculous expensive macbooks)
  18. WEP is dead ! Almost everybody can hack WEP in 15 minutes (pro's do this in a minute or 2). The absolute minimum you should use is WPA.and I suppose you live outdoors or have a 10dB-antenna ? 250m is a lot, especialy indoors, 50m-70m is more realistic imho.
  19. woot, more windows command line tricks .Probably not going to use this too often, I already have to many (virtual) drives in my computer .
  20. lol . Now that's why I don't buy apple stuff. They make quality hardware and software, but their firmware upgrades usualy downgrades the device , never had that problem with a pc before (except maybe when looking for the best overclocking BIOSes )
  21. everybody does what he want to do here in Belgium . Some go to church at midnigth, some go outside to drink gluwine (hmmm ^^), some people just spend their evening watching stupid christmas movies. Most of do eat a lot on christmas Anyway, best wishes to everyone
  22. I've found a nice website that compares the different scanning engines; http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ They do use the professional versions, but I don't think the free-versions perform worse.
  23. jeeeej, more confusion . I can already imagine it; "USB 3.0 High Speed", "USB3.0 Compatible", "USB3.0 Drive" ... only to mislead people by letting them think they are buying something that works at USB3.0 speeds (this is the same thing that happened(s) with USB2.0).Btw, has anybody done the maths ? 4,8Gbps ... that is 600MB/s ! You realy need a kick-*bottom* raid setup to get even close to those speeds . The good news is that you can finaly connect 10 external HDDs without hogging the USB-bus . And in terms of PCIe lanes, USB3.0 will take up 3 PCIe 1.x lanes, 2 PCIe 2.x lanes or 1 PCIe 3.x lane, nice .
