  3. Funny isn't it? Alien simply means life form also means living thing not resembling any human or animal is physiology as we know today. So when you as "Are there aliens in existence?" the answer is a definite yes. If we believe that the Earth is round, and that it revolves around the sun and rotates about an axis, then we already have left Religion behind. (there is no Biblical account of the shape of the earth and of its motion about an axis or around the sun for that matter). If we all believe that there is a solar system, with other planets in it, then without even experimenting, there has to be one planet or two out there that has good enough conditions to support life. Whether they be more advanced than us in technology than us or not is what we will have to leave to our imagination. In my own opinion it is better that they are more advanced in technology so that when we eventually make contact, we will have more to gain than they.

  5. Now thats a broad question. I am a CNA [computer network administrator] and as such I really dont use unix based os on my desktop systems, I use them as servers. Now depending on the type of server you are looking to build, this informs your choice of distro. For a gateway server with security features such as time based internet access, bandwidth control, and ip-based internet access on a network having say less than a hundred users I would use Ubuntu without the gui ofcourse. For a vnc server to provide remote desktops for about a hundred thinclients ina digital center, i would use Fedora Core 3 this time with the gui in place. For a file server/database server where I would want to implement raid say 5 for instance, I would use Mandriva linux. and so on. The peculiar scenario ultimately determinse which distro is deployed. For a desktop system however, I would choose Freespire/Linspire anyday. Best Regards
  6. If you are really sure tis not your fault that your ip got banned, then visit the following ulr and follow instructions on how to hide behind an anonymous proxy server. http://www.freeproxy.ru/en/free_proxy/cgi-proxy.htm That should take care of the problem. If you have any further issues lte me know. Tis actually easier to click here and use one of the listed proxy servers, you do know how to set a proxy server on your browser dont you? http://www.freeproxy.ru/download/lists/goodproxy.txt Best Regards
  7. Usually, to integrate WiFi capabilities into an existing LAN involves interfacing a wireless router with an existing LAN and configuring it as an access point. If it is meant for free public use, then it may not be necessary to encrypt the transmission, otherwise it is advisable to encrypt it with at leas a 64-bit WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) key.Depending on the gain in db of the attached antenna, the radius of wireless coverage can vary from 250meters to close to 450meters. Now comes the stage where we need to extend the coverage of the wireless transmission, there ars several possible ways to tackle this problem, 1 attach by means of a network cable another access point to the existing LAN2 increase the amplification by adding an amplifier to the initial access point3 use the wireless access point's WDS (Wireless Distribution System) functionality to add access points at strategic locations to create a wireless mesh. The third method is what I shall focus on in this discourse.Almost all wireless routers at least the more recent models have this function built in, so it will not be an uphill task procuring an AP with WDS functionality.More on this soon!
  8. In my opinion, the issues surrounding the different versions of IE may border more on hardware capabilities than on anything else; for instance IE7 will only run on winxp sp2 not later, and this requires a certain amount of system resources than what is required to comfortably run winxp sp1 or say home edition. More system requirements means system upgrades (RAM, HDD space, Processor) and so on, which you will agree do not come cheap. So I just wish they will consider cost implications when releasing new programs n oses like win vista for instance and longhorn. I believe more in functionality than in cosmetic value. What do you think?

Well, welcome Miles, though I am not the Moderator of this forum but allow me to say welcome, and one more thing "Age is just a number"
  10. Yes, once your wireless router is properly configured, you can get on the internet with your ipod, remember to set up NAT (Network address translation and a working DNS)Also set a friendly SSID, and remember to secure your wireless broadcast with at least a 64bit key, which you will be required to enter in your ipod when connecting (this will usually be a one-time thing though)If you have any issues configuring your wireless router, let me know at maxoroberts@yahoo.co.uk I will be glad to provide whatever support you might require.
