OpenOffice.org impress (impress is the powerpoint part of OoO) is a good alternative to powerpoint, but I do have to mention that it doesn't has the capabilities of microsoft's office powerpoint. It's more basic and flat compared to the bling bling stuff powerpoint can make. The good thing about OoO is that it can export to microsoft office formats and it does that job pretty well as long as you don't use too complex features.

He's talking about 200 computers that are connected to each other in a network, repeating those steps 200 times and just hoping for the best can hardly be called 'a solution'.

Moo64c, this topic is almost one year old, I've turned the application in a long time ago .Also, watch out for bumping old topics, the mods don't like it if you do it too often

Not ... smart . Anyway, try scanning your disk using an different virus scanner (there are online scanners available like housecall, kaspery, F-Secure, Bitdefender, ...). Also, if your virusscanner let a virus through, then maybe it's time to check for updates or a beter virusscanner.

Jep jep, I've always used this method to pause my C-applications . It's much better than system.pause() because cin.get() works for linux too (system.pause() is a windows-only app).

I always use Filezilla for accessing my FTP accounts, it works quick and is completely free (and is regularily updated).

Windows XP Error: Explorer Crashes While Drag & Drop
wutske replied to vicky99's topic in Websites and Web Designing
IE7 isn't the fix for the problem. Something probably got corrupted on your computer and by installing IE7 the corrupted data got fixed. I still run XP SP1 with IE6 installed on it and I have absolutely no problems with it, so don't blame microsft, blame something else for trashing your windows installation. -
Look for the heuristic scan setting of your firewall and set it to the maximum. This heuristic scan tries to detect new virussen and virusses that change shape.

Access Linux Box From Windows Machine- Putty Tool
wutske replied to kanade's topic in Websites and Web Designing
you basicaly need to do a few more things to get it working. It seems logic, but the ssh daemon must be running on the linux box, but something not everybody thinks about is opening the right ports on the firewall. If you forget to open this port (tcp port 22) then you won't get any connection to the box . -
How To Play Music And Movie In Linux? Which Is The Good One?.
wutske replied to kanade's topic in Websites and Web Designing
amaroK or Banshee are imho the best music player for linux. For movies you could try mplayer . -
You don't even need to get a program to re-partition your hard disk, the windows vista installer has a utility that can resize partitions (at last )

I've used it a long time ago and I wasn't realy thrilled about it. It didn't find anything else that Adaware of S&D couldn't detect (and if it did detect it, it couldn't remove it because I had to pay for it).

I've been using vista home premium for a while now and I quite happy about it. It has a lot of features and tricks I do miss in XP (like that new explorer and startup menu) but it also has a lot of features I realy dislike (like UAC, Aero, ...). Driverwise I haven't had many problems, but that's probably because it came pre-installed on my laptop (I can't install it on my main pc due to a lack of soundstorm-compatibility). Speedwise it isn't faster as XP, but it isn't slower either (as long as you have at least 2Gb of memory, but I guess a hard-core gamer has at least 2Gb of memory ). Some things (like network overview) starts a bit slower tough ... As a hard-core gamer I'd go for XP since a lot of games don't run decently on Vista (yet). The only thing you'll miss is DirectX 10 support, but for what I've heard it's not that much of a miss .

Wiping Out A Hard Drive Most secure method?
wutske replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Most methods do more than just overwriting every sector with zero's. Overwriting it with zero's is just one of the many steps that are taken, sometimes it overwrites the data with ones, fixed numbers, random numbers, ...Anyway, most methods are secure enough for most users, I don't think anybody is going to pay a few thousands of dollars to read out a disk that you've erased using one of those methods . Doing a simple low level format should be enough too (overwrites every sector on your disk with zero's, only one step). -
I've started programming using the netbeans tutorials, they are clear, but don't offer you more than the basics for creating java application. Of course you'll be needing Netbeans if you follow these tutorials . https://netbeans.org/kb/index.html Eclipse (another IDE that you can use for programming Java apps) has some tutorials on their website too, but I don't find them as clear as the ones on the netbeans website. http://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse_Articles,_Tutorials,_Demos,_Books,_and_More

It's not as simple as just asking 'how to make a template'. First of all we need to know what the system behind the website will be, is it a simple, static website or does it use a content management systems (CMS) like joomla, drupal, wordpress. A static website is the most simple on the make a 'template' for, you just need some basic html and css knowledge (altough some more advanced html & css knowledge is neede to make a website like the one you gave as an example). Making templates for a cms is a bit more complex because every cms has it's own way of defining components, even tough the idea behind the templates it almost identical: make a lay-out and define some blocks where the cms can place it content (it's a bit like using (i)frames, but way more complex and more ideal).

I've installed it, nothing special about it actualy. I haven't had any problems, neither did it improve or degrade the performance. Just give it a go, if you don't like it you can still uninstall it (like I did, but that was because it had installed a lot if applications I don't need on my nLited XP installation).

John, don't be a lazy boy and use google, I'd bet you can find tons of wordpress templates by simply searching on the net for them.

I have a few sites hosted at one.com and I'm very positive about it. They don't offer support over telephone, but they reply very quickly on mails and (if it works, because I never got it to work) there is support via live chat . One.com even isn't expensive for what they offer, I'd recommend it to everybody who is willing to pay a few euros for webhosting. If you're not willing to pay, go Xisto . @ahaslam: cpanel at one.com ? The only thing they have is a basic admin page, nothing like the cpanel we have here at Xisto.

ouch . Can't exactly say that I think this is fair.

That's not exactly true. You don't have to raise the core voltage to overclock the processor, it's your own decision. Raising the Vcore allows you to go even higher than what you've already acomplished. Back in the old days it was very likely that you'd damage your cpu if it wasn't cooled decently, but nowaydays processor have overheating protection that power off the computer when it's overheating (but because these temperature level are high, it's most likely that the cpu's life time is reduced). There are a lot of other components (especialy voltage regulators) that can be easily damaged if you overclock and raise the Vcore. Btw, overclocking was easy when we had to use jumpers . Change FSB, multiplier and cpu voltage and that was it . Nowadays you change the bus speed and have to fiddle around with dozens of voltages and dividers not to over-overclock some part in the chain...
