Forgot to post an update back on this issue. The problem was resolved. I think the hard drive had to be replaced in the end.

Welcome to Xisto Misty If this is your first time working with a forum, I recommend starting off with a free one (or maybe even staying with it...read on...). As pointed out earlier, SMF (Simple Machines Forum) is free to use and is very secure. I have been using this forum on my website for years now and never had any major problems with it. Setting it up is pretty easy compared to the other forums. Some say it's confusing, but as with all other forums, I'm sure it will be a little "difficult" to navigate if it's your first time. There is no code you need to overwrite unless you are planning on using the mods/hacks for the forums. If you plan on using SMF, installing those mods should be quick and easy to do as they have something called a Package Manager where you can install things with a few clicks. Give it a try yourself. OK, this took a while to find, but the script for the database conversion can be found at: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ You will need to convert the database. Then install PHP Nuke and I guess you will need to point it to the converted database (it should ask you the database name during setup).

I think 250 credits is a lot when it comes to posting at Xisto. Unless you are a very frequent poster here (or one that posts a lot of good tutorials), earning that amount of credits (and keeping it that way, remember you lose 1 credit each day) will be a difficult task. Domain names do cost money, but who can't shell out less than $10 per year for one? You get free hosting here at Asta already, so the web hosting part is covered already

I emailed them and now I have to call them because they won't resolve the issue via email :ph34r:That funnel thing can be removed from the side case. But should I do this as it's made mainly to blow cool air for the CPU fan and processor area? Underneath this funnel I see another small opening (maybe 2x4 inches) but doesn't look like I could mount a case fan there.Will it be cool enough to just mount one exhaust fan in the rear of the case? Nothing is blowing or sucking air from the motherboard directly (funnel only pointing to CPU area)? I'll try to take some pictures if needed.Thanks.

Not very good when it comes to this area, but I recall seeing computers that have a domain drop down box where they enter the username and password. Do you have another field beneath the password box called Domain? If so, click on the drop down arrow and see if you see your company domain listed. Also see if you spot an entry with your computer name and next to it with (this computer). For example, say your work domain is DEPT1 and your computer name is tamsinPC. Check the Domain drop down menu and see if you can see these:DEPT1tamsinPC (this computer)I see these a lot on laptops and desktops for the company I work for. If I'm correct, selecting tamsinPC (this computer) should be your home login account. That should log you straight in without changing any other settings to share the printer.

I actually didn't even think about that as well...could have pulled a quick one on me yesterday If it ever does reach to Xisto, hopefully the amount of credit can be reduced just a tad (maybe by 100 credits LOL).

That's a great tip faulty.lee Didn't know about that but have seen it in the Details area in the Device Manager. Will try this out next time I get a machine with a driver issue @Jimmy: I doubt you damaged anything inside the motherboard just be adding more memory inside. I assume you discharged any static you may have before working inside the laptop right? Try the suggestion by faulty.lee (see above) and see if Google can locate that correct driver for you. I would go into the Device Manager and delete that sound card entry first. Then restart the laptop and go back to the Device Manager and get the VEN and DEV information from the Details area.

Why don't you like Simple Machines Forum? Just curious because if you test it out more, I'm sure you will find that it's pretty easy to configure the settings to your liking.If you still would like to go with the other forums instead, it's probably a good choice to wait for phpBB 3 stable release to come out.

Not that I know of. It seems to be only for ONE fan and from the looks of it, I assume it's a 120mm one and NOT the 80mm that they advertised: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Seaku=I69-2146%20D That's the exact case I have and I don't see any use for this 80mm fan I bought from them. I assume I can't mount this 80mm fan for the front of the case right? I took a look and don't see any ventilation holes in the front of the case (only a little space between the front cover and inside metal case).

I'm just buying the fastest processor I can afford, so Dual Core does seem reasonable in my case. Got the correct motherboard to support the CPU chip also.The system is basically ready to be setup (with Windows XP first....I'll add Vista when the time comes). Quick question though. I see that the CPU has a HUGE (I mean...really HUGE) heatsink and fan. This thing must be like a heater in itself to require that big of a fan. It also has it's own dedicated "funnel" (not sure what to call it) that takes air directly from the outside of the case. Basically, there is a funnel shaped object on the computer case that points directly at the CPU fan to get air in. I bought a 80mm fan because the case specs on the site said it has an optional room for a 80mm fan in the back. Well, I was putting everything together and found out it's supposed to be a 120mm fan due to the size. Is this crucial since the CPU has it's own big fan already and my hard drive has it's own cooler fan as well?

Definitely a new look for phpBB users. If the new phpBB3 is more secure as most say, it will have an even broader user base.MOD Display? You mean like installing new mods for the forum? If so, I'm sure it will take a while before newer mods will be made for it as I'm sure the coding style has changed between the major versions.

Looks is definitely not the main thing to focus on. I usually like a mid tower since it provides a fair amount of room inside and have multiple 3.5" and 5.25" drive bays. The first computer I built was actually more for looks and the special lighting effects than anything. It was a blue case with the X insignia. I found it roomy and all but definitely could have gotten a cheaper case without all the lighting Cooling in the system is not that bad, but can use an extra fan to blow out the extra hot air (as with most other cases if the back fan is not included).

I would run an antivirus and antispyware program like Grisoft AVG and AVG Anti-Spyware to see if they can pick anything up. Both are free for personal use. Before you use them, clear out all your temporary internet folders first. You can get them two aforementioned programs from: http://www.avg.com/de-de/free-antivirus-download After those two scans are done, see if you can go online. If you still have issues going online, try using WinsockFix (http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/WinsockFix.zip) to see if it repairs the internet connection issue.

There is no chance involved if you ask me. Grisoft bought out the company that makes the anti-spyware program. You might have heard of Ewido Anti-Spyware. I always recommend my users to run that spyware scan since it does a fantastic job. Since AVG acquired it, I have taken a test run using it and it looks just as good as before. So they have my recommendation The program is free for personal use, so download and install it. I'm sure you'll find it easy to use and hopefully keep it.

Simple Machines Forum has many configurations you can change, as with many other forums out there. But you don't even have to touch any of them if you like the way it's set up already. For most users who just want a forum setup, installing SMF using Fantistico will be enough. Any other configurations are minor if anything. If you don't like how it looks, you can always change the theme as mentioned earlier, which is also not a difficult task ;)YABBSE is actually a pretty good software. I started with YABBSE a few years back, but heard they upgraded it to Simple Machines Forum. I switched after that only to find out that there were still developers who were working on YABBSE. So basically they are still growing, but I'm already hooked on SMF, so no turning back

What kind of laptop do you have (brand and model number)? Did you check the laptop manufacturer's website to see if they have released an updated sound driver to work in Vista?

The tutorial was definitely easy to follow. For those that don't have any programming experience, you should have the Pascal compiler installed to see what these code will do.I started with learning the C language and dove into some Perl, Java and then Visual Basic. Never got a chance to learn the even older and more basic ones like Pascal. I actually started to learn ForTran lately to help my cousin in her assignments Picking up from these older languages will be easier to learn once you know another programming language

Try removing that sound card entry from your Device Manager and restart the laptop. It should auto install the driver if I'm correct. See if there is sound now. If not, give the High Definition drivers a try: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I recommend creating a restore point just in case something goes wrong. Vista should have some kind of driver rollback feature as well if this doesn't work either.

No you can not use it with phpBB. vBadvanced is exactly what it's made for...vBulletin forums. No, vBadvanced is only a content management system. If you want to use it, you will need to pay for a vBulletin forum license. Not sure what you mean by this. But if you mean downloading that vBadvanced file to upload to your web host, then you need vBulletin installed first. After that, it should be as simple as uploading that file to the same directory as vBulletin and using the built in extraction tool in cPanel to extract the .tar file.
