This option was available to those who wanted to keep their hosting but can't be active regularly here... No need to contact OpaQue to switch you over as I'm sure he has a million other things to do Just head on over to Xisto - Web Hosting (https://xisto.com/) itself to sign up if you are interested. The difference between buying the credits and switching over completely to Xisto - Web Hosting instead is: 1. Cost 2. Different server Although Xisto - Web Hosting doesn't charge a lot for hosting, it still will cost more than if you just buy credits instead. The server hosting your website files will also be different. Paid hosting gets a "tad" better performance I would think

Another Website Experiencing Problems Flood control script?
WeaponX replied to Vue's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Having 300 users shouldn't cause any issues. I've seen forums where there are near thousands of users online at the same time without problems.Have you contacted your web host provider about this? The web host should have ways to prevent this from happening (DDOS attacks) in the first place -
Just Google to find free linux distributions. I forgot the exact name of the site that had a bunch of all the flavors (at least a bunch of them )...I think something like Linux ISO or similar. But here is a site that lists some of the popular ones: http://linuxlookup.com/linux_iso Most linux operating systems are free...just need to have the speed to download them While it's true that Linux might not have the same programs as on Windows, there is usually an alternative one made for them. It just requires you to adjust using a whole new operating system for those of us that are use to Windows.

Although there are many hacks out there to get the Mac OS to work on the PC, I don't recommend it. Not only will you most likely have hardware not being recognized, it will probably be sluggish when you run it on your computer.

Finally got some time to play with Rollercoaster Tycoon 3. Like some of you pointed out, I'm also disappointed in this version. It has much more features but then again, also more confusing menus in my opinion. Game play is similar to the prior versions...still like the first version over RCT2 and RCT3

I think the PHP Sleep function will do the trick for you: http://php.net/manual/en/function.sleep.php You can put this in between the code that asks the user for input until it finishes...

Good tip SilverFox. Didn't know about that Page Info feature in Firefox. Still have to go searching for that image link though...:)Like others, I usually view the page source and find a link to that image (if it's descriptive). Otherwise, I check the temporary folder (yes, I have done this a few times myself before to see if it really works LOL)

Won't Reconnect To Wireless Network Automatically Once Disconnected
WeaponX replied to WeaponX's topic in Computer Networks
Was playing around with the Trendnet program itself (instead of having Windows XP wireless taking over) to see if it matters. But the same things occurs, so my guess is that this brand is just not good B)Yep, it's the straight stick that plugs right in. I have an extension cord that should fit it. Will give it a try but I don't have my hopes up for this one...Everything is brand new on this Dual Core 2 machine except for the wireless adapter. Looking at a Linksys or D-Link now. -
There should be no problem in that case if you are only replacing the processor with another one. If you do run into problems, try the fixboot and fixmbr commands as mentioned earlier by Grafitti.

You can go ahead and install Ubuntu or whatever other operating system you want. This shouldn't have anything to do with the warranty as it's purely a software thing. If you are worried and actually do encounter problems (related to hardware that is), just reinstall Vista...unless Dell didn't provide the install CD It still shouldn't void any warranty though because nothing physical was damaged or opened up inside by you. Depending on if the price goes down and by how much, this may be worth the "hassle". This is good news for those that bash Windows and stick with Linux. For those of us that want to have Windows, we will have to settle buying it (either from Dell or elsewhere). Ubuntu has a pretty fast growing audience from what I have seen lately. Lots of users are giving it a try and even if it has bugs in it, I'm sure it will be fixed if users are reporting it. It's a matter of "taste" (no pun intended ) whether one operating system is better than another. Dell had a forum where they asked users what they wanted...well, that's what started this http://en.community.dell.com/error-notfound

Won't Reconnect To Wireless Network Automatically Once Disconnected
WeaponX replied to WeaponX's topic in Computer Networks
It's disconnecting from the DSL line...I can usually go into the router settings without any problems. Just not getting a line outside B)Repairing the internet connection via the Wireless Connection Status window fixes this issue though, but it still annoys the heck out of me to do this each time I get cut off. I'm not going to format and do a clean install as this is the clean install already (just did this like two weeks ago LOL).Hunting for a reliable PCI Wireless adapter as we speak. Until then I guess I have to live with this problem. One more thing. Maybe this USB adapter is just junk, but I notice that the connection never hits near 54Mbps as advertised or even at 11Mbps. It's between 1Mbps - 5.5Mbps usually. My laptop in the same location in the room (maybe one foot away) reaches 48-54Mbps reliably though. I ruled out any interference as this doesn't occur on the laptop. Shouldn't USB and PCI wireless adapters provide the same speed? Or does PCI wireless adapters actually faster and have better reception? -
For beginners, I usually ask them to go to W3Schools as they have a bunch of great tutorials for those who are new: http://www.w3schools.com/sql/default.asp Examples are basically clear cut to understand, but as pointed out earlier, you should try to play with some live code yourself to see how it works exactly.

If that newer hard drive was used on this same exact computer to install Windows XP with SP2, there probably won't be any problems using it. Not 100% sure if XP needs to be on the first partition, but give it a try. If it doesn't work, one thing I recommend checking is if it's the Active Partition. You can use a Windows 98SE bootdisk (get one at http://www.bootdisk.com/) and use fdisk to set that F: partition to be the active one. That should make it be recognized as the bootable partition

The designers at Microsoft came up with the new interface so it can be more "easier" for anyone (even those who are not that computer savvy) to use. But as with many other things, an easy thing for one person, may be more complicated for others. Windows Vista is supposedly built using the Windows 2003 Server code with some improvements. So I would guess that it should at least perform better in the long run at least. Once they get all these compatibility issues resolved (as with Windows XP when it came out), I'm sure businesses and home users will feel more comfortable moving to it. My company don't plan to work with any Vista machines until maybe two or more years from now.

I have switched over to Xisto - Web Hosting from my other paid hosting (which was pretty good as well). Xisto - Web Hosting is definitely much more stable in terms of uptime and their customer representatives are basically on the clock 24 hours a day. Response time and resolution are usually quickly resolved

Just built my new computer and holding off on a new wireless PCI adapter for the time being. I have an old TrendNET USB Wireless Adapter that I plugged into this new computer. The problem I'm having now is that whenever I get disconnects from my DSL router Windows won't reconnect automatically On my laptop (using the Netgear PC Card), it automatically reconnects once my DSL connection kicks back in. I've been living with this problem since my Internet Service Provider are of no help in resolving this issue. It didn't bother me much on my laptop since it auto-resolves this issue. But now on this new computer (desktop), I hate to keep doing a repair on the connection to fix it. Also, on the repair, it does the usual diabling wireless device and enabling, etc....but then it stays there with the Cancel button. My connection is back, but the Cancel button and saying that it's still trying to establish a connection is still there. I have to Cancel and then hit Close manually. Is there any setting or a fix around this issue? Many thanks.

No problem hazemmostafa For those that want an already modified HOSTS file to "block" out ads and other spyware related sites, get one at MVPS: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm They update their HOSTS file frequently, so check back for updates. You can always add your own sites in the modified HOSTS if you like...just add it to the very end of beginning. When it comes time to get the updated one, just copy all your custom sites you added in first before replacing it with the newer HOSTS file. Then copy everything back to the new HOSTS file and save it.

I don't think the amount of monitors should slow down your computer. I have worked with with computer with as much as 4 monitors connected to one workstation (one video card). I disconnect and reconnect a bunch of these and then test them out. I didn't notice any lag or slowdown at all. On top of that, these are not exactly top notch computers. The main thing you need to do (configuring-wise), is to enable those monitors so they can be extended. Then putting them in a order that's fit for you....left to right, or whatever position your monitors are in. Having multiple monitors is more than just having more space. It can be a huge time saver for some people...say those on a trading floor. They have mulitple programs opened and each program have it's own monitor. Try doing that on a single monitor at full size for each program...not quite possible if you ask me

I don't see what all the hype is about either. I think people got too excited about it before it even came out. Besides those little "widgets" with the clock and the Aero interface (which I already heard some users turn off already), there's nothing dramatically improved that I know of. I need to test it out myself to see how is the stability of that system. I think it's built using the Windows Server 2003 code, but correct me if I'm wrong Also, as you pointed out CHASETOWN, as long as you install the compatible drivers, everything will be ok. This is a big issue for older hardware. Those upgrading to Windows Vista would basically mean upgrading their older hardware components if a Vista driver is not released for them yet.

The HOSTS file does not exactly "block" anything out. It just redirects the user back to their computer (aka localhost). I think you got it the other way around there :)It should probably be something like this instead:127.0.0.1 http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, if you try to go to your localhost (for those that have some kind of web server like environment with Apache, etc. installed), you will actually be redirected to that site you put before that 127.0.0.1

In most cases, the VLC Player should be able to play videos (even those that requires a codec to be installed). Does this dark problem happen to all DVDs you try to play on this computer? Have you tried to play the same DVDs on another computer and see if the issue is the same there as well?

I was working on a site the other day and noticed something interesting. The tech support guy on the other end seems to have remotely logged into the computer I was working on, but without my noticing (or not very easily). I had my printers window open already but noticed that some of them were "auto-deleting" and renaming themselves. I know remote desktop (like VNC) can do this but at least it will show the other user what's happening. This one seems to be working in the background without any user knowledge. I would think that if I didn't have that printer folder open, they would have still done the same work, but this time without me noticing it right?I searched this up a little and it seems to be VPN. From what I found, VPN is usually for file sharing only though. Will I be able to remotely access another computer without:1. The user noticing it (no mouse movement seen or windows seen when I do things on my end).2. Won't lock the user out when I'm remotely logged into their workstation (Windows XP kicks them back to the login screen)I have searched more on this and XP has this feature built in, but just needs it to be enabled. There are some drawbacks as both sides (host and client machines) need to be configured for VPN access and it also looks like I need to forward the port (1723?) that it's using.I found a program called Hamachi that can do this more easily but it seems to rely on their server. Is there a program out there that will work similarly but without a middleman? I want direct access so even if the server is down, it won't affect the connection.Thanks.

The power connector from the front panel to the motherboard is most likely the cause as mentioned earlier. But also take a look at the power supply itself. It should have an on/off switch in the back. Make sure it's not off
