  1. Just played around with this a little more. Actually not that bad - was bored so I entered a few locations to test it out. Would be better if it allows us to zoom in more, but it's free and you should get the idea... Yeah, at first I was lost on that moon map. Too detailed LOL.
  2. Does it have to be emails? Is this for sending messages out to the other two computers? If so, I recommend using the Messenger Service to do this. Take a look at this Microsoft Article for more information. By using that function you will be able to send messages that will popup on the screen instantly.
  3. Wait, before we go on we have to get one thing straight here. You are NOT getting 20gigs of web space. Only 20 MEGS (megabytes) of space. To answer your question, we have to know how you are recording the movie clips (if it's being recorded). If it's high quality, the size will be bigger. If lower quality, then the result will be a smaller file size.So how are you recording/getting these movie clips?

    Hey-lo!

Hi kris and welcome to Xisto.Feel free to contribute to the forum by posting. We hope you enjoy your stay.
  5. Just want to let you all know that I'm not a newbie at this. Didn't know there was a default index.htm page though. So that's why it showed that webpage instead LOL. Got it now.I was only worried that my account will be deleted if I didn't have an index.htm file in the root folder. Some free web hosts do this.
  6. Thanks for the replies. How about if I have no webpages there at all? Currently I only have my forum and a CMS up. Both are in folders in public_html.Right now when I go to my site directly (root), I only get the Welcome to your Hosting Account! webpage. I guess they can't view my folders after all right?
  7. If I am correct, some of the settings won't be applied if you do it offline and then upload it later on. I don't know much about databases, but I'm pretty sure that the database will be modified some point in time when you are customizing it offline. My suggestion is to do your testing offline. Write notes if needed. Then just customize it the same way using a fresh upload for the forum (if you have one in place already, then just make the specific setting changes you made offline to apply to the online one). Since it's getting better and better, I highly recommend using Simple Machines Forum as your forum. The choice is really up to you.
  8. Not sure if I should have posted this as a reply to the SMF 1.1 Beta topic, so I just created my own topic for the questions.OK, finally found some time to test out this new version myself.Have some questions for you Trekkie or anyone who knows the answer to these:1. Regarding mods, if they are not compatible what should I do with them? Will they be overwritten or will they still be in the Package Manager so that I can uninstall it later?2. How do I know which mods are SMF 1.1 compliant? I actually did check and a few of them mention it. But I also installed those that didn't mention the compatibility and it still worked.3. I had a problem installing SMF Shop. It says that one of the files failed - /Sources/Post.php I looked in all my folders starting from main root of forum up to the Post.php file and they are all chmod to 777. Still gives me that error message. What's wrong here?4. Where can I get that file to chmod all my SMF files and folders to 777? I remember someone giving me the link to this over at SimpleMachines Forums.I'm very eager to do the upgrade. I really love the new Admin panel. I was going to switch to phpBB before because I didn't like the older Admin panel. I think it was Oldiesman who talked me back into staying with SMF. Glad I stayed. SMF rocks! :)Thanks in advance.
  9. Hi, I was just wondering about this the other day. I have looked around before and some of these hosts who provide free hosting requires that you have an index.htm page up in your root folder.I only have my test forum up and it's not in the root folder. Is this ok?Thanks.
  10. Stay away from that seller. From China and at only $45 sounds too good to be true. Try to pay only by credit card also just in case there are some conflicts in the transaction. I assume you want a hard drive based MP3 player right? I haven't tried many out myself but check out the ones from Archos. I have an old model of it and it's not as pretty, or as small, as the iPod but works great. It's a 20GB Archos Jukebox Recorder. If you want to go small, there is the Archos gmini. I think those play movies as well as play songs. Another hard drive MP3 player which might interest you is the Creative Zen Touch. Should be small enough and has a simple interface. If you want other types of MP3 players (like flash based ones), I highly recommend getting the Creative Muvo. I got the one where you can record your own speech, listen to the radio, record the songs from the radio, play MP3s and use it as a data storage device. It's very small and easy to use. For reviews on these products, I suggest going to Epinions and type in the product name.
  11. Nope. I just double checked and almost any other Windows version can be the client (the one you will be using to control the other computer). The host (one you want to control) has to be Windows XP Pro. For more information on remote desktop, take a look at this Microsoft Article
  12. Do you have a hosting account already? How long will you be gone for?You will lose 1 hosting credit each day, whether you make a post or not. My suggestion is to build up your points now before you go on vacation. I did that also (was gone for 3 weeks).Once your hosting credit reach a negative number, your site will be taken down. Once it reaches -30, your account will be terminated and all files will be deleted. So as long as you don't get down to -30, all your files will still be intact.
  13. I never bought an iPod from eBay (nor will I ever), but you should have no problems getting it from eBay. Just make sure the seller has lots of good feedback (usually you will be buying from power sellers). Most, if not all, will have return policies if it's defective.Like you said, the prices are staggering (for any of the iPods there). I look into other alternative MP3 players.
  14. I ordered 2 of these from Microsoft a few months back. I also ordered 2 CDs with SP1 back in the days LOL. All came here pretty quickly. SP2 came within a week's time.Zageyiff, I think it's the complete Service Pack 2 install. Of course, it won't have the latest updates, but it should have the majority of it already. You might have to go back to the Windows Update site to see which ones are missing.
  15. You may use the Remote Desktop feature in Windows XP. But from what I understand, the computer that you want to remotely access has to be Windows XP PRO and not HOME. You can use a XP Home pc to access the other computer, but that other computer you are accessing must be XP Pro. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here. My suggestion is to use a third party program if the above method is giving you problems. TightVNC - I love this program. Should be pretty simple to setup and use. It's freeware. PC Anywhere - You probably heard of this one. It's one of the more popular commercial programs made by Symantec. LogMeIn - Found this one a few months ago. This will give you remote access using a browser. It's similar to GoToMyPC, except it doesn't ask you for your credit card once you sign up. There's a free trial, so give it a go first if you like.
  16. Nope. I posted this just a few minutes ago somewhere else: You need at least 10 credits (not posts). To check credits, see above quote.
  17. Please read what vujsa posted in the first post. It's right there in step #4. You can request for hosting here To check the number of credits you have, just login and scroll down a little. You should see the number of Hosting Credits there (it's in days). That number is not 100% accurate from what I gather. When you request for the hosting, an admin or mod will look over your posts and adjust the credits accordingly. As long as you make legitimate (useful) posts, you should be ok around 30 credits (or 10 credits if you want the lower end package).
  18. Welcome to Xisto. It's a very friendly environment here and we hope you enjoy your stay.

    Edit?

OK, I tried finding that thread on this subject matter but can't locate it now.I think the post was made by vujsa. So you can probably PM him if you still have further concerns about this matter. Or you can PM OpaQue (the admin who created the credit system). I would leave it as is since it seems to fumble the credit system from what I understand. The problem might be that some users might cheat and edit their posts to include more text and then edit it again so that it applies to the subject. For example, the user can enter a bunch of garbage text (lots of it) and receive a lot of credit for it. Then to cover this up, they can immediately edit their response and get credit for that also. I hope I got that correctly :)I know what you both mean though. I would love to have the edit button available also since I have made a mistake myself and couldn't edit it without a MOD or Admin to do it for me.
  20. I know. I couldn't believe it either but after a few users verified that it was a legit full version, I downloaded it also. Haven't installed it yet though.I got the information on another forum that I help out on. I don't think the category is available for the public to view (probably need to register).Enjoy.
  21. I'm with what the majority of you said here. It's also required to wear a headset or earphone if you want to talk and drive. I don't think they are enforcing it that strictly here in New York because I still see a few drivers doing this everytime I go out driving.I try not to use my cell phone at all when I'm driving. It really does take your mind off the road a little. Hey, I'm not saying that some can't handle doing these two things at once, but the distraction most likely will have some effect.
  22. It's not really freeware, but for now it is. This is no prank. You can get the full version of Paint Shop Pro version 9.01 here. Corel is giving it away and I think it's only for a limited time. You don't need any serial and there is no catch. It's a legit version and fully functional. Must be a promotion to push it out.

    Edit?

This was mentioned somewhere before already. I can't find that thread again. The edit button was taken out because it was messing with the credit system from what I understand. So it's not available. If you need to edit your post, you have to PM a mod and they will help you edit it for you.
  24. Welcome to the new rig Padsgoo. You should only post useful information here. If you don't have much knowledge in the categories listed here at Xisto, you should try the other site (Xisto) where they have less stricter rules. It's 2GB bandwidth if you sign up for the higher package. Once you reach 30 credits, make sure you apply for hosting because once they accept your application, your credits will reset to about 2 or 3 (even if you have gained more than 30 credits). So keep that in mind.
  25. I did a quick search and this is one of the programs that came up. There should be a trial period before you buy. So see if that program will do the job for you.
