  1. If your server doesn't support PHP, what does the sever support? I guees you NEED some server-sided script-language on the server, otherwise HOW should the forum posts be written in an XML-file? Sure, you can use XML as a database, you can let your visitors use some great XML-functions like sorting data and filtering data in the browser window. But if it comes to writing data in files on the server, you need PHP or ASP or ASP.NET, any server-sided script language ... as far as I know.
  2. I once took a short look at Webmin, what I saw for sure is that Webmin at least gives you much more possibilities to configure your system than expensive Confixx does. GreetingZ
  3. I don't know ... since they more or less used their Adwords technology for GMail, I do NOT trust them. They offered large Email-accounts but read these Mails. Maybe it's silly, but it's my EMOTIONAL decision to never ever install something that comes from Google, no chat client, no toolbar, no nothing. GreetingZ
  4. I do NOT agree with that. MS Virtual PC is NOT slow. In my opinion it works far better and faster than VMWare. Anyway, I guess Cherry OS is not comparable with Virtual PC, because there's not hte same kind of resource sharing between host OS and guest OS. MS Virtual PC and MS Virtual Server are two great pieces of software which I don't wanna miss anymore. By the way, me ... I can't see no reason why I should hurt my Intel PC with Apple software. 5. XandrOS (former Corel Linux) is easy to install and easy to use. The new "Open Circulation" version is free via Bittorrent Download, and the professional version features Codeweavers Crossover office which lets you install Windows applications in Linux. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ GreetingZ
  6. Internet Explorer is faster, looks better and the toolbars can be customized much better. I don't need tabbed browsing, I use Windows taskbar. I turned off ActiveX, but only because I can't stand no stupid Flash banners anymore.Concerning security: Security holes and exploits for these are floating around just because Internet Explorer is the most used browser. Little holefinder kiddies are much more interested in IE. Internet Explorer simply is a larger target, that's what I'm thinking. I wonder why Firefox users never seem to get tired of telling how evil and unsecure Internet Explorer is. It's cool if they have found a better browser for themselves, but why are they always talking about it? I will never understand. GreetingZ
  7. I think that Microsoft Access has a much better graphical user interface than any MySQL application will ever have. And IF you use ASP or ASP.NET on your server, you can easily use your MS Access Databases in your websites. GreetingZ
  8. Perhaps an online-scan like this one might help you: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ If you have particular files that appear peculiar to you, you can check them for malicious code here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Highly Recommended! GreetingZ
  9. Hi, here's a good german hoster with php and mysql and with unlimited bandwidth in the socalled "light"-pack. https://domainexpress.de/ 1x Domain (.de .com .net .org .info .biz) included 5x MySQL Database 250 MB Webspace for 23,88 € a year https://domainexpress.de/ GreetingZ
  10. Hi,there's several threads about the "which is the best website editor"-topic here in the forum. Just browse through the topics a little bit and you will find a number of opinions on that subject.GreetingZ
  11. I guess good sex is their secret
  12. Yes, I think it can be done even within Internet Explorer. But "Microsoft Office Web Components" must be installed on your system. Simoly save the Excel-Sheet as website, in the saving dialog check the interactivity-box. Hope it works!GreetingZ
  13. Microsoft Publisher is definetly NOT a website editor! Sure, you CAN create websites with it, but this is not what it's made for. The source code it produces is totally blown up! The best HTML editor was, is and always will be ... Microsoft Notepad! GreetingZ
  14. You can find a pretty large overview over current Linux distrobutions here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ They have little summarys about what the focus of each distro is. GreetingZ
  15. Programming the search engine is one thing - hardware is another! You need much space (many many harddisks), much RAM, many processors and voltage ... and that all costs MONEY. :DGreetingZ
  16. I think Xtivity might be an alternative or an add-on for Flash Designers, but of course it's not replacement for Flash technology. (Being a replacement for the whole technology was what I thought it could be when I read the title of this thread) It would be cool if Flash would get a real competitor, some vector graphis alternative technique, Flash is much too mighty in my eyes.
  17. Maybe the second best, don't forget FOOTBALL! And some of us do also like GIRLS!
  18. Hi! As far as I know the disk usage is not always shown correctly. Often when you change your files the disk usage remains unchanged. I think there's no need to worry about this, your ftp-client will tell you the truth about your real disk usage. :DGreetingZ
  19. What kind of fail? In my opinion this absolutely HAS TO work! I cannot imagine what should go wrong here. If he changes the settings in safe mode, the changes should be kept for the next reboot! Did he check the graphics adapter? I mean ist it still deep in it's AGP or PCI slot? If it's not, this would explain the black screen. GreetingZ
  20. I guess Corel draw sure is a good program, professional and high class, no doubt about that. But for the price this program costs, you would get a nice holiday trip to somewhere or a nice little Laptop or whatever. What I'm trying to say is: Corel Draw is not too cheap! So why don't you just download the program somewhere and "test" it before you buy it? You sure can do nicer things with your money! GreetingZ
  21. Well, this sounds as if it would be best if you changed these settings to the original state. You must have changed some font sizes in the advanced tab. Select the single elements in the advanced tab and try to make some font sizes smaller. In Windows 98 there used to be some themes for visually disbaled with extra big font sizes, perhaps a theme like that is active? GreetingZ
  22. Oh, but me, I DO SEE lots of ads here, and many of them are even in my language! Guess I love these ads so much, I will never ever edit my .hosts-file.
  23. Do you mean these "Sorry, an error occurred"-messages? ("Board message") I found out that these messages appear whenever someone posts a new thread in the Tutorial section. All tutorials must be reviewed by a moderator before they can be read by others. I think it would be much better if everything would appaer immediately, and maybe would be moved to a special Tutorial section when reviewed by a moderator. GreetingZ
  24. Empty space betwenn the posts? I think most of us get advertisments between the posts. If you don't, what browser are you using? How did you do it? (One possibility would be editing the .hosts-file I guess. New style is so much better, easy scrolling and faster loading of the whole page. GreetingZ
  25. -----Topic moved here, to the tutorials section-----szupie
