  1. Sweet... a little off topic now but that just sounds cool!! I'm going to have to google that!!! [N]F
  2. M$ still has a heart for people... well, their data at least. They've actually changed their Genuine checker root kit thing... it now calls home less frequently and it is more of an "option" to download it. It would be dumb to say, "The OS you've been using for 2 years now is a pirated copy. Here, re-install with this disk and by the way, it erases your previous installation completely including all data." Also, any of the software that's for "Genuine copies of Windows" can easily be downloaded from places outside of Microsoft (like I've seen a million places where you can get Windows Media Player 11, a Genuine Only download). The Genuine thing is just asking for another law suit against them. Personally, I don't like my Windows system to be spied on from home.. bad enough when I tell it DO NOT download & install updates without permission, it downloads Microsoft's "really critical" updates & installs without permission and so I find my laptop rebooting unexpectly... I thought "DO NOT" applied to ALL updates.. guess it only applies to the ones Microsoft wants it to... [N]F
  3. Very nice tutorial for those beginning, but may I point out something? The web is becoming more and more CSS based. It would be nice to see some more CSS tutorials as CSS is more flexible than the font tags.Back when I was starting, this tutorial would have come in handy! I learned from a book for kids and this girl, Elila or something like that, was building her own website. Hehehe... wow have times changed. The thing should be archived as like HTML 1.0 Guide... well, actually, I have no idea how old the book is. I think I got it in 3rd grade and didn't do anything with it until the summer of my 8th grade year because I was bored! lol[N]F
  4. Hmmm.. sounds like it could be corrupt then... maybe? [N]F
  5. wow... I should head out to Toronto... only about a 4-5 hour drive (roughly, could be more) for me to get out there. I know I'd probably be stuck on the busses lol but it does seem pretty useful! Who can pass up FREE WI-FI!?!? Seems like it could work. I know it would make flying more enjoyable, that's for sure! [N]F
  6. and that was a bad thing?!? haha, just playing with you OpaQue! [N]F
  7. I'm quite a fan of KDE mainly because the interface is very flexible. I've worked with the GNOME interface a lot recently, but I can't say that I like it that much.[N]F
  8. Don't ever visit NASA then lol They're great people, but they lack creativity for smarts... kinda sucks... it's like me almost. once in a blue moon will I create something cool. [N]F
  9. This may sound like a dumb thing to ask, but is it a 64 bit or 32 bit edition?[N]F
  10. From my point of view, you got BSed if someone told that to you and you BSed your friend. Let me explain:1) Currently, processors are maxed at 3 GHz in speed (of course these are really expensive and mostly used in high-end servers currently. Smaller devices run slower. I don't think there is a hand held computer that doesn't go faster than 500 MHz (correct me if I'm wrong)2) Though it is possible, I don't think Sun has a computer the size of a credit card. 3) There are NO monitors the size & thickness of a 8"x11.5" sheet of paper. Bendable monitors would be out of the question and are science fiction due to the fact that they could easily break. Not to mention, they'd cost more money than Bill Gates has.4) Those kind of lasers don't exist for one reason: highly dangerous. That's a lot of radiation...None of this stuff is real. Don't BS. Use your head and ask "could this REALLY exist TODAY?" The answer is no it could not.[N]F
  11. Ok, it just did it again! When I logged back in there was something about LSA shell encountered an error...[N]F
  12. I'm starting to doubt that you're as knowledgable as you claim. You may be book smart, but are you street smart? Learn to open your eyes and read things: Behavior Spyware.HyperCam is a video capture program that can covertly record your actions on a computer. It can be used for legitimate purposes when the computer user is aware of its presence on the computer. That's also stating that it COULD be used for malicous purposes as well, such as when the computer user ISN'T aware of its presence. I have the same complaint agains WinVNC as I use it to remotely do maint. on other computers on my network and it is even labled as spyware for the fact that it could be used malicously. So, no, Windows Media Player couldn't possibly be next unless it has a hidden keylogger in it. Degrees & diplomas say you might be book smart, but I'm only in high school and I'm already working for my school's technology department because I have the skills to pickup things quickly. Out of all 7 of us summer workers, I'm the most responsible & trustworthy so I get treated well. They trust me to configure network switches (CISCO) and new computers, and here and there I get the ability to hop onto our NetWare server console. Yet, I don't have any kind of degree or diploma. You just have to be street smart and use common sense. See where I'm getting at? You attacked Symantec for wrongly claiming a program as spyware. Just because YOU might use it legitimately doesn't mean someone else will... do you see where I'm taking this? [N]F
  13. Normally you can download viruses in ZIP files and set them lose ONLY when you want to. Except, it is DANGEROUS to let a Windows machine even get on a LAN, let alone the Internet, without some sort of anti-virus. I have Norton 2004. I find it best to turn off automatic scanning so it won't delete any viruses you want. Also, I hope you're being VERY careful with your virus collection... Virus collecting is about as dangerous as radioactive sample collecting... I hope you're NOT using Windows as your primary OS then... it doesn't matter if you go to crack website/illegal websites or not. That's BS right there... There have been studies done and you can get a virus within the first 6 seconds of being online to a full 5 minutes. The Internet is a network. Viruses and worms spread through networks. LANs or the Internet, it doesn't matter. Malicious code WILL find its way into your computer. Actually, you could be infected right now and not even know it. Don't put all your trust into a firewall. A firewall is just that, a FIREWALL. It can block some traffic, like worms, but does it stop them from coming in via email? Nope. [N]F
  14. Hello,I've run MS update several times and still, the processes lsass.exe and services.exe keep getting killed and causing the server to reboot unplanned.I don't think it is the blaster worm because no computer on my network (except for mine which is fully patched & protected) is turned on when the system reboots. (Logs show that it has also rebooted several times overnight too)I'm not sure what the problem is. As you can tell, I'm not a Windows system administrator. I much prefer Linux because critical system processes cannot be terminated.[N]F
  15. In software development: Bug Fix (v.) - A fix of one bug that adds many other bugs to the software. OR just claim the software was still in beta testing and it was just a beta bug [N]F
  16. Server could have just "hiccupped"... servers do that a lot under load...[N]F
  17. Lately, a few of my friends have been talking about this program called Hamachi. If you don't know, it basically allows you to start a network with a bunch of your friends. It basically is like having all your friends on your LAN. You can share files, play games, etc. as if they were there! You can also play games with them LAN style instead of over the Internet. It's pretty cool! Check out the hamachi website at https://www.vpn.net/ [N]F
  18. That's pretty cool... I'll have to play around with it! [N]F
  19. Personally, I think the WMP format is just Microsoft's attempt to monopolize yet something else. Let me guess... it can only be supported on Vista and newer versions, the format is going to come with an EULA and won't be cross-platform?Just like VBScript... it can only be used on Windows systems, it can only be used in IE and it is another attempt to monopolize something else...As a Linux user, the PNG format is excellent for most things. However, in case you don't know, Internet Explorer is PNG challenged. It doesn't like transparent PNGs and won't display them properly. Also, Windows in general has problems with the PNG suppport. Ever right click > copy image then paste into photoshop or other application? The transparency turns black!!Trust me, this is just another failed attempt to monoplolize something else in the industry...[N]F
  20. I hate companies like these... free to $$$$$$$. It is good software, yes, but when you charge $150 for a board license, I think your developers are a little too greedy. There are plenty of other ways to get money. Like if they'd just go ahead and release it under the GNU/GPL, IPB board usage would sky rocket! Anyway, IF has been the leader in IPB hosting. Although I've never been a user of them, I like the new name! ZB will become quite popular with that name! [N]F
  21. Yes, that would probably be what is going on. DNS servers update at different times all over the world. They seem to suggest waiting at most 72 hours (about 3 days) for full DNS propagation to take place. Sometimes you might hit it lucky and your ISP would have updated DNS servers but someone else may have to wait another hour or another day. Also, for the record, here's the main difference between parked domains and add-on domains: 1. Parked Domains: If you're domain is "user.astahost.com" and you buy "user.com" and add it to your account as a parked domain, you would then be able to access "user.astahost.com" via "user.com" instead. You could also purchase "user.net" and add it as a parked domain and access "user.astahost.com" via "user.net" AND "user.com" 2. Add-on Domains: If your domain is "user.com" and you wanted to add another website to your hosting account, you could add-on a domain. When you add-on a domain, a subdomain path is created. So, like if you wanted to add the website domain "user1.org" to your hosting account of "user.com", just add-on the domain. CPanel will allow you to link the subdomain "user1.user.com" with "user1.org". Anything you place in the public_html/user1 directory will be viewable under "user1.org" I hope this helps clear up other issues with other users as well [N]F
  22. What idiot at NASA originally decided on P1 and P2 anyway?? I mean, come on! You find something, name it intresting. Anyways, Nix and Hydra are cool names... but how do we know that they're not stars? 1) Pluto is nothing more than a hunk of ice... it is nothing more than an ice ball, 2) What ever happened to the "10th planet"? Still cool anyways... Don't get me wrong, I love the sky and astronomy. [N]F
  23. With this set, it has been known to last 6+ months. The keyboard runs on 2 AAA batteries and I care less about the mouse because it is so uncomfortable!! I got one not just for having one less cable on my desk, but for felxibility. I like to "relax" and put the keyboard in my lap sometimes. The way my desk is, I can't really do that. Sometimes I need to move the keyboard out of the way and because for some reson MS hasn't made PS/2 hot-swappable yet, it's not like I can unplug a regular keyboard, plug it back in and expect it to work. Also, when I get my new computer, there's going to be enough cables as is... coming out of the one cable hole in the desk I currently have: -Ethernet for my laptop -Power cable for my laptop -Power cable for alarm clock -Monitor VGA cable for a 15" monitor sitting on the desk next to me (moving once I get new comp) -Keyboard cable for desk next to me (moving once I get new comp) -Mouse cable for desk next to me (moving once I get new comp) -Power cable for desk light Now here is what it is going to be when I get my new computer: -Power cable for alarm clock -2 monitor cables for my monitors plus 2 power cables (dual monitors) -Power cable for desk light -Mouse cable for computer (the wireless one is uncomfortable... I'll stick with a wired mouse) -Receiver for wireless mouse/keyboard There's just too many cables... working under my desk to plug something in or to unplug or even re-route cable is enough of a hassle since I get the pleasures of having my network server right next to me. I'd use wireless, but wireless signal in my room is worthless and large print jobs tend to get sucked into a black hole somewhere... Yep, though I'm going to live with an old wired mouse for a while. I like to move my keyboard around so this eliminates that! [N]F
  24. OK, I kind of got it working now! I started over fresh and removed Active Directory. This time I changed the domain to XERGE.DYNAMIC10.COM and it liked it better... perhaps it would have worked with moonburst1.gotdns.org... I think it could have been the that I was putting in "moonburst1.gotdns.org" (no quotes) and perhaps just the "moonburst1" part would have worked fine...Now I need to figure out a hack to get Win XP home computers to join... stupid MS and their $100 feature difference between OSes...
