  1. a) I don't have SP2 bcause I run Linux;) it's useless and my SP1 machine cannot contact w/ my bro on the network when playing games!c) It slows down the machined) it introduces new problems then fixing themxboxrulz
  2. No error messages (that's why I hate Windows, it doesn't tell you about any error when it crashes), the crash type is hanging. These are the hypothesis:NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT has a memory problem (low, since it works properly in Linux)512 MB RAM has problems (yet low since it works perfectly in Linux)Driver problem (probably)xboxrulz
  3. you just need theme XP then download the Mac skin.. You can also do this on KDE (for UNIX based OS) and GNOME (for UNIX based OS) w/ out any extra software ;)xboxrulz
  4. Well, usually I won't talk about Windows, because it is truly a crappy OS, IMHO. Well, here's my problem, whenever I load any games on a freshly installed version of Windows XP, or Windows 2000 SP4, I run the game for a while, then it randomly crashes! This is the 100th time! Thanks in advance, xboxrulz
  5. Well, shop no further, use Linux, it will not die on you (unless you accidentally delete the kernel). Damn Small Linux, Knoppix and SuSE are great for the computer u specified. It works perfect on them. All available for free! http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ https://www.suse.com/ http://www.knoppix.org/ Happy Linuxing! xboxrulz
  6. The differences between NTFS and FAT32, is that FAT32 would require more space per file, while NTFS files are smaller. Linux CAN ONLY read NTFS and not write, while it has full functions w/ FAT32.Fdisc (Fdisk in American English) is a program that sets your partitions. It doesn't do formatting though. For Linux, if you want to try it out fully, download Knoppix (the real thing, Gnoppix is just a clone w/ GNOME instead of KDE) and you can actually install Knoppix w/ it's installer (after it boots the desktop)xboxrulz
  7. Ya, I would take that suggestion hatim, but my dad is buying a completely new server, so YUM can't help me much.xboxrulz
  8. You need a really good connection, like DSL/Cable 1.0 MBPS or more. Your ISp must let you host a server, some may not allow that. Your server should be at least 1.0 GHZ or more or else it's gonna take forever to load.OpenBSD would be a good choice if you're afraid of being cracked into, yet you can use Debian Linux.xboxrulz
  9. I also maintain the servers whenever I'm in Hong Kong, so I do need to know the ins and outs of the server .So, I do need to know how FreeBSD works, and I didn't get any good experiences from it.xboxrulz
  10. RH8 is too old to work with any new operating system versions. Samba < 2.2.8 doesn't work with Windows NT based systems. Please upgrade to Fedora Core 4 or other new Linux versions.xboxrulz
  11. umm.. AMD Athlons are x86 processors.xboxrulz
  12. I was wondering, are there any computer builders who build computers w/ IBM PowerPC 970FX processors (G5)?I really desperate for a computer that runs on PowerPC, I dun like the x86 architecture... I want to run OpenSUSE 10 beta 3 on it.Please don't tell me Apple is the only ones (for now)xboxrulz
  13. na, BSD? Microkernels? na, gonna keep it simple w/ Linux. Even I run my machines using Linux (desktop/laptop).Plus, FreeBSD is too hard to maintain, plus most of the Linux compatible software must be ported.I was thinking of FreeBSD, but stepped out of it since some of my Linux commands won't work anyways. Why switch versions? It's because most of the software needed uses 2.6.x kernels.xboxrulz
  14. ok, but just a reminder, KDE uses QT and my KDE does NOT look like Windoze.xboxrulz
  15. I use KDE. Man, you use old stuff, no one really uses CDE anymore, MOTIF sucks anyways, IMO.xboxrulz
  16. you can install remotely using the online install version of SuSE in 9.x but I dunno bout Fedora Core.xboxrulz
  17. <comment>Currently, I don't really have any comments, but this topic has gone from evolution, to creationism then back to evolution and God.I wonder where else this topic is gonna take us.</comment>xboxrulz
  18. Well, there are millions of post about it, search for it.Anyways, mine is Linux.xboxrulz
  19. lol, anyways, not all distros use the "same" kernel, there are different versions of the same kernel, but I won't go too deep into the details.xboxrulz
  20. It went fine. It will NOT slow down your system since it seperates Linux and Windows from each other. It will boot each operating system at a time.Home Edition is slow anyways. It is slower than Professional. All I know is that Fedora Core 3 is slower than Fedora Core 4.xboxrulz
  21. nope, http://www.gnu.org/software/hurd/ actually, they did minor stuff to it if you check their news, but it's not big updates. xboxrulz
  22. Well, it is a: file, print, web server, email and other use server. Also, he has a Windoze server running a database software.xboxrulz
