  1. A google search will get you links to free scripts That's the best advice I can give you. That way you can also select a script based on the features, since we can't possibly know what it is that you want. It took me a second to know that "neone" is anyone and "temme" tell me or give me. When you do decide to do a google search for scripts, I'd use "normal" English LOL
  2. Yes, I am Belgian. Flemish to be exact Well, we may not be the strictest... and in my case, my strictness also depends on the time (of the month) LOL (*sees all the guys run for cover*) No, serious. If we would be very strict the forum would not flourish as it does. But we do enforce some basic rules, especially the advertising, spamming and copying from sites to get more credits. Because after all, this is a business. Even though here at Xisto.com there is no official payment. But you pay for the hosting nonetheless, in activity, sharing knowledge, helping out,... What better way to get hosting then while having fun Sometimes I've had a lousy day and am in a really bad mood. Then I just browse through the fora, in my mod shoes And go for it, with a vicious strike LOL. But it sure feels good, to know that you've just got an abuser of the board
  3. LOLOL jipman, but I am a moderator, not a modder-eter (am dutch too). I accepted the moderator position here simple because I thought it would be a nice thing to do. It's fun, at times, yes, it can get annoying. Especially when you've just read through a big part of the forum to delete the random "LOL" posts, you've just checked for copied posts and you go back and see that some dude copied an entire article. That can be frustrating. But that is why we're a team, we can vent about it as well to each other Getting paid to do this?? Well, to some extend we are getting paid to be contributing members here, we get hosting (excellent hosting if I may add that ). Being a moderator brings forth some responsibilities but also some fun. You get to know the other mods/admins and you probably become friends a lil You learn from eachother etc. You know what I mean (well I hope so LOL) Maybe I am the only mod that actually feels proud to be a mod, it's an opportunity given to me. A learning experience We may not get paid, but for some of the youngens amongst the mods, we can note our modding experience as extra curricular activity on our resumés
  4. THat would give us even more work BUT if there is a reason to edit your post, you can reply to it with a request to merge topics, as jipman did here (the red text in the post was me LOL). This doesn't affect credits, since you receive credits for the post and replies.. merging those posts will leave those credits unaffected What *could* be done is that when editting the credit script recalculates the amount of credits. But this would probably cause too much of a load and causes crashes.
  5. One word to the "steal it", I have a big nasty mean dog (rottweiler/dobermann mix), he'll eat you alive LOL and yes, he sleeps in my room Jipman, I'll edit your posts don't worry. The reason I set my budget so high, is because I don't want to spend 1200€ on basic stuff and then face the need to replace parts in 6 months I prefer to wait longer over having to spend money on replacing parts early on. I really like your idea on the ZalMan fans I mean, I heard nothing but good about them. See the reason I asked this here, is you guys have no gain from trying to get me to buy expensive stuff. But the comp store sales dude has financial gain from it So obviously he'll try to get me to spend as much as possible.
  6. Ok, you convinced me So it's ok. I just had to bring that up huh? LOL. Anyhow, can I get ops too LOL. It's kind of odd to be "normal" there while even just Hosted have Voice and I don't
  7. Could you maybe make NBot not respond to LOL/lol anymore LOL It annoys me to no extent, especially since it's one of my stopwords
  8. We are also in the process of redoing the forum outline, to elliminate any confusion as to where a post should go. This of course brings forth a lot of moving of topics, and as SingleDaddyof2 said, we are also deleting all short posts that do not contribute anything. THis will also help keep the forum more streamlined. And even though the forum is not taking up that much space, it may also help with the speed of things
  9. Well rIxXoN, that's the reason why I am trying to get this "specs"page together. Mom will pay part of it, for my birthday (which is July 31st). Of course I still need to save some money But mom is the type that needs convincing a lot, so that means I need to know stuff like this way in advance. My global idea of price would be around 1500€ (which I think is around $2000) The thing is, if I spend this much time on a puter a day, I might as well make it be as smooth as possible I am sure everyone here understands that LOL.
  10. WOW thank you for the replys... The reason I opted for AMD as CPU is because I used to work with AMD only LOL. I think I had an AMD Duron or something (it was a 950 MHz) and it worked like a charm, I have never encountered any issues with it, even though a lot of people told me they overheat fast. In the end yes, I managed to mess them up. I wanted to overclock - so I did that. And I forgot about ONE thing... cooling. I didn't have enough cooling power LOL. Right now I have an Intel PII 333MHz in this laptop (just the regular CPU, not mobile technology LOL) And I find it gets hotter etc. I don't like that LOL. Of course the 1GB RAM would fly I used to have 256MB and it annoyed me LOL. But then again, I used to have Win XP Pro with Dreamweaver MX open and Flash MX open at once. Maybe that was a little strain on the system LOL. Ah and in case you're wondering why I left out a normal DVD reader, I still have one in my closet here, an internal one. Same goes for a CD-writer LOL. This is a thing I thought about last night in bed Since I will be running a Dual Boot with Ubuntu Linux (or Gentoo or Mandrake - Maybe I'll try several LOL), the hardware should work in Linux too LOL. Intel may not be the best choice then.
  11. My goal is simple.. to get a GOOD new pc. I think it's important to also mention what the pc will be used for Mainly webdesign, graphics (PhotoShop, ImageReady, Illustrator) and Flash. I also listen to tuns of music and would love to try my hand at 3D. Gaming is not realy my thing, unless some MUD's and text based games (not much load on a system LOL). Oh and perhaps some programming. I made a lil page with the specs I've chosen so far, but with the memory, graphics card and such I am stuck. Since my pc (laptop) is so old, I actually have very little idea left of what I should have. Keep in mind, that I would like to have the minimum and some more. I don't need state of the art at this point (important for the memory) but I just want a good system pretty fast So I think 512MB RAM would be ok. I really want to know what brands etc you have found to be good. I used Apacer and was happy with them. Since the MB I chose has Dual channel support, does it have advantages over single channel RAM? Also the monitor can be changed (again, no knowledge of TFT screens), however it has to be a TFT screen since CRTs give me migraines after a while (2hrs of more use). And then there's the issue about fans... which ones, will the one with the CPU suffice? If not... let there be silent fans And then here's the link LOL http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  12. First of all, I don't mind IRC. Well to some extent I do, since I've had loads of issues with it. But my question is.. will it not take the attention away from the boards? I mean, most people who post an issue here want a fast response, knowing that IRC is chat, which is usually faster than forums, will that not make them go to IRC faster instead of posting it here? Which then could lead to us answering the exact same questions all the time... I hope I am making myself clear in this.. I don't want to say I don't like the idea, but maybe only for mods? Or something? I clearly see the advantages for mods and admins, but my fear is that members will use the IRC channels more than the forums in the end simply to get "help" faster. And that is something I want to avoid.
  13. I have ADOM and yes I love it. I personally like the Rogue like RPG's, I don't know why but generally speaking I still adore old DOS games I also enjoy MUD's So I stayed true to my "text" nature. As far as a good fix for DOS games http://www.dosgames.com/ is my favourite. And it's all legal, only freeware, shareware and demo's. Be sure to check out their links section
  14. Question : which file format is prefered? JPG or gif or is png allowed as well? how about flash? And I can't make a promise LOL if I can't come up with something decent I prefer to not do it at all I am a wee perfectionist. LOL
  15. I started out on a Sega Master System (the first one LOL I think I was about 6 ?). Without a cartridge it had Alex Kid In Miracle World loaded!! I LOVE that game I still do (my cell phone ringing tone is the intro of Alex Kid ) Since my parents were divroced, the dad figure had to follow suit and bought me a Sega Master II with Sonic, California Games, a shoot them up game and a flight game (Ice or Ace something). I hated all the games on it but Sonic ;)Then I got a SNES, with Mario All Stars (Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 3 etc... the 3 standard Mario's and Mario : Lost Levels), PilotWings, Mario Kart (my ultimate fave - which I lost ) and some space shoot thing LOL. I also have the Super Game Boy (TETRIS!!!) Then I bought a Playstation ages ago, with GT2 (still love it), Tony Hawk 2 (finshed it with all the extra's hidden stuff etc), GTA2, and several more LOL. On the PS my fave was GT2 and Tony Hawk. Now we come to the pc faves And those are perhaps older LOL.I used to have a game called Stunts on DOS, with car racing, racing against time but it was soo hard because if you would hit a wall (or come close to it) your car would be ruined. At this point, I am looking for the game, I miss it LOL. Darkages was one I hated with a vengeance LOL, then I had the ever so nice Ken's Labyrinth Still got the floppy with it LOL. After DOS came Phantasmagoria, and to my great sadness, I left the game (7discs) with my "dad thing" so I don't have it anymore Leisure suits Larry 7 was well too much fun LOL, Hopkins FBI (shooter type rpg), Sanatorium (only found a demo, never found the game)... And when I was 15, I got introduced to Myst! I had pages of notes, for the puzzles, I loved it. So I recently bought me Exile (heh, cheapo that I am - naah, just no store had it, bought it in Holland). Oh and one of my faves, Motorcross madness! In short, my ultimate faves: Myst/Riven/ExileMotorcross MadnessPhantasmagoriaLeisure Suits Larry 7 (anyone any idea where I could find it again to buy it since I really do want it back)Stunts (DOS)GT2 (PSone)MarioKart (SNES)Alex Kid (Sega Master)
  16. Indeed, it would be less time consuming. I've been using Win for about 3 yrs now, of which 2 with Red Hat as dual boot Before that, I've spent 3 yrs Red Hat solely. I can't run a Dual boot (lack of space - 12GB hd does that to me ), and I do use a few programs that do not have a Linux equivalent sadly. At this point, I've tried VMWare, Wine and some other Win emulators whose name I've forgotten. I've never been able to succesfully run PalTalk, Dreamweaver, Flash etc. Even though I've heard it is possible (seen screenshots). When I get my new puter (WOOOHOOO) I am soooo going to a dual boot, or am reformatting this olde machine with Ubuntu (I've ordered copies ) I had asked OpaQue for shell access just to have *some* commandline fix.. LOL...
  17. Uhm.... I don't have a firewall, because it is my choice. However I do run some protection (which I am not going to disclose anymore). The biggest issue with not running a firewall is that there ARE people out there, who spend their time online by scanning for IP addresses, then scan the ports of those IP addresses provided they receive a ping back. This is all automated. I personally prefer to keep my NetBios shut, as many other ports to not offer those people a chance to "have some fun".I also like to have a virusscanner scan incoming files. Maybe not for my own puter, which (for the record) gets reformated every 4 months, but for those with whom I exchange pictures, files etc. For those with whom I share a webcam connection. Imagine the damage if you would be hosted on a win server and you upload a file infected with a virus.... Just imagine the damage... Yes, this to some extent is paranoia. I didn't have this a few months back. But after 3 people from my group of friends all got a file from one person and their puter ended up completely messed up, I did get more protective over my puter. Not having a firewall, virusscanner etc, because the threat is not too big is like not using a condom because the chances on getting aids are not so great. I just wouldn't take that risk, neither am I willing to risk my puter or the puter of others.
  18. Well, I write. Be it called poetry, random ramblings, prose... It doesn't matter to me. I don't write for the pleasure of others. I write for ME. This is fairly important to say that, writing for me personally is therapeutic. I can release emotions, feelings, thoughts, hurt, ... in words. My writings hardly ever rhyme, I don't fancy rhyme. As for how to enjoy poetry... you can't make yourself like it, you or like reading it (and then you'll still have preferences about which type) or you don't. It's that simple. When I read a poem, I do see things, or I feel a sentiment, but I also realize this may be very different from what the author intended with the words. You associate certain words, with other words or images through personal experience etc. I do have to agree with you, szupie, I HATE teachers going "what did ... intend with ..." You can't know this, you're not the author. I feel that analyzing poems like teachers want students to do in school, is wrong. You can't analyze words someone wrote to express something they felt. (I am not refering to the realistic poems - they don't make sense to me at all LOL - I can not see the beauty in describing the shape of a freezer). Anyhow, szupie, you may not enjoy poetry, someone else may. It's personal So you can like something someone else doesn't appreciate. It's what makes us unique.
  19. Well, back in the old days I had a Microsoft one (2 button, no scroll wheel, but remember that this was in the era where 386 was brand new). But after that one, I got a Logitech mouse (Navigator Desktop cordless) and I was sold For some reason, the cordless desktop (mouse + keyboard by Logitech) won't work on my laptop (no connector for an external keyboard), so I am using the corded mouse (logitech Pilot). I am sold to Logitech all the way, but I may end up without Logitech, since I intend to buy a Wacom Tablet and most come with mouse. If I get stuffed about it, I am going for the MX510 or MX3000 (I think - it's the one with Lazer )
  20. I'd say, since you are putting job info up there as well, go for professional. Keep it simple and smooth. That way it looks professional AND nice for graduates. But then again, I always have advised people to keep the lay out simple I hate the overly used graphics on sites, music that you can't stop,... you get my point LOL. It's a pretty personal decision, a web lay-out. You have to feel good with what you do. You could always make a lay-out and hear what your friends think about it. And then ask someone older, someone with already some experience in the business world That may help you get a good idea of what professionals are looking for.
  21. It's pretty pointless to go against those corp's... they can afford the best lawyers, and sadly for some reason that is a determining factor in court... But heh, if Yahoo files a complaint about X-Fire, then why not against MSN I mean, they're new features in the MSN messenger 7 (the Nudge, which is exactly the same as the Yahoo Buzz but is called nudge LOL - the audibles (yahoo name) and MSN has a VERY similar feature) It's a sad thing, money determines how successful you can be as company, especially the money BEHIND the business, if you don't have good funds to start off from, it will be an extremely hard task...
  22. Why did we create this forum? The answer to this question is quite simple, we wanted to concentrate questions, issues, problems, etc related to hosting here, in one place. This way it will be easier to find answers, pose a question,... Also in the old "cPanel and FTP" forum, there were a lot of non-related posts, which just confused a lot of people. What to expect in this forum? Everything that is not in direct relation with cPanel, any of it's subforums or FTP, should not be here. For example, posts about HTML issues, should be in the HTML Forum. This forum is NOT intended for anything about the actual building of your site, but the server side actions (how to get your site "up there" , installing scripts, bulletin boards, setting up mailing lists, managing subdomains, etc). What can be posted here, in the main section (not in any of the subforums) is for example issues reaching cPanel, which can be a server issue or a browser issue Why can only Hosted Members start topics here? Well, because the hosted members are like our customers. The Hosted Members are, like their group reads, hosted here. Therefore their questions about the services (cPanel, FTP, etc) are important. Of course, everyone can reply to the topics posted by the members, but only they can start topics What is NOT allowed here? And this is the shortest answer. The rules of the board apply here, just the same. So NO SPAMMING, no offensive language, pay attention to your spelling and grammar so we at least can understand you and of course make sure your language is suitable for minors as well.
  23. I used to write my html in uppercase all the time as well, for the same reason you've just touched. To find the actual code easier BUT I've now switched to lowercase, not because of the validation (heh, I hardly ever use it ) but because xml (and I think XHTML) both require lowercase tags. My biggest help in writing HTML is basically good indentation. It's one of my pet peeves, to look at horrid code with crappy indentation. For example, someone did write the code in notepad, but prefered "Times New Roman" as font because it looked better than Courier, and they used tab. It will look horrible in code when you do use a fixed width font. I have to admit it, I don't use Courier, but I do use another fixed width font for coding (ProggyCleanTT or Anonymous I think) Anyhow, good tutorial vujsa!
  24. Well, I am Dutch/Flemish, so I am discussing this in a forgeign language too So yep, I agree that IS hard to do. You know what you wanna say but the words don't come out the way you want them to. I know. About my childhood, there's nothing to be sorry about. In a weird way, if it hadn't happened, I wouldn't have been the person I am today. Maybe I wouldn't be bi, I don't know. But I know I would be very different, I wouldn't have met some of my best friends online. And yep it's better Sadas, you didn't hurt my feelings, a debate can be a good way to look within myself I am cool, I hope you are too I can be pretty attacking with words at times ...
  25. Well, this is the most open I've been about it haven't gone off to the media. The "in the closet" refers to people who haven't outed themselves, as in told their family, friends about their orientation. That is how you can still be "in the closet" even though the media chooses to report about being gay. It's not a choice I've made, for all I care, the media can shut up about it. LOL. Also, I have spoken up about my preferences, but I only replied to the thread, (heck, who wouldn't have LOL) I didn't create the thread... Maybe I'll come back to answer or reply, but am going to bed. Took my meds (coughing medication and painkillers because I am coughing my lungs out, the coughing causes headache.. there )
