  1. you certainly can... you can even have another Linux distro on another partition if you like more than one Distribution i myself have Linux Mint and Windows XP dual boot on my netbook... by the way, if you're shifting from Windows i HIGHLY RECOMMEND you use LINUX MINT -- it comes with all main necessities packed in the CD/DVD (iso) that means you after installation you can pretty much do most of the stuff you do on Windows, like watch DVDs and Movies, flash is already installed... most of the media codecs are readily available! i'm fiddled around with a few Distributions and i find Linux Mint to be one of the most Elegant and Easy to use (coming from a Windows background)
  2. good effort in my opinion, i think you should go for a more professional looking font... and also as the others mention, the Ad Free and Free hosting parts coloring isn't helping eithermaybe try metalic blue theme? with standard but professional font choice?great start though
  3. Aspire One D255E-13DQKKgoing online to Acer Drivers page i come across 3 different makes, now does anyone know any program that will actually tell me what brand is my webcam?or am i suppose to install the 3 one at a time to see which one works? help please
  4. cheers for clarifying that yordan... this is quite handy for those who get's dynamic ip like me with my ISP... everytime i restart my modem i get allocated a new IP
  5. i've just tried a Live Bodhi Linux on my Aspire One netbook and i gotta tell ya, it's awesome and fast... i though Mint LXDE was slick but it's falling behind Bodhi's speed... http://www.bodhilinux.com/
  6. cheers yordan i ended up using Windows Installation to divide the drive into smaller partitions before i installed Windows XP, then i installed Linux after that
  7. i'm going to install LinuxMint LXDE alongside Windows 7... i'm going to need to partition the single 250GB drive into a few sections, so i'm curious what you guys recommend...i know i can partition using LinuxMints' partitioning tool upon installation but i'm just abit skeptical about it and would prefer partitioning on Windows 7 itself before installing Linux
  8. update ---- GREAT NEWS GUYS i've restored BIOS to default - with further more googling i stumbled on this link - https://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/1-Ad-(AdSense)-Revenue-Sharing-FAQ-(Discontinued)-Revenue-Sharing-FAQ-(Discontinued)-Revenue-Sharing-FAQ-(Discontinued)-Revenue-Sharing-FAQ-(Discontinued)-.... so i decided to try it on my D255E with BIOS PAV703 and PAV702 files chucked into my 2GB USB stick, i unplugged the power cord, simultaneously hold "esc" + "fn" keys for 5 seconds, while holding them i hit the "power" button and released the "esc" and "fn" key... the screen stays black/dark but the flash key lights up (meaning there's something going) after a few minutes (maybe 3 to 5) the laptop powers down and restarted, when i hit the f2 button it went straight to BIOS will write a blog on this on my website
  9. cheers Starscream... i've always been a Mint fan for it's elegance! it's also great that it comes with most media codecs included... and plus it's running and based on ubuntu :unsure:so issues can be quickly fixed due to it's enormous amount of users and support
  10. cheers yordan... having issues with installing SP1 on my Windows 7... so rolled back, now will try again but wanna create a restore point before doing so
  11. thanks yordan... yip i followed your instruction - right click on My Computer and went to other options which has security and something else
  12. have installed the latest driver and process goes through... it's only updating it so doesn't remove password security i've also tried cmopwd and it seems not to work with the insyde H2O bios on my netbook i'm so desperate to reset this that i'll probably end up short-circuiting the battery
  13. update - successfully flashed BIOS http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-boot-cd.htm but i think flashing BIOS only updates it and doesn't reset the password
  14. thanks yordan... i can't even locate the bios reset points... i removed the hard-drive and BIOS is forced to opt for alternative booting devices... so i plugged in my mint USB stick and it loads :unsure:now it's a matter of creating a BIOS Re-flash/Reset USB Stick and hopefully it will work
  15. i'm in a process of freshly installing LinuxMint on my netbook with ATOM N455 1.6GHz 2GB RAM and i'm wondering what you guys think of LXDE and Gnomei've read some positive reviews/comments on LXDE, would it be quicker and more suitable on my netbook? i have already used Gnome Mint on another netbook for over a year, and it is abit slow loading apps and stuff...
  16. anyone know of a quick way to view currently available/created restore points in Win 7?
  17. i wanna create a restore point in Win 7 but have a curiosity if it's necessary to close all aps before running it or surfing the net and watching a movie shouldn't be too much of a problem?
  18. actually some (if not a lot) ISPs run their services with Dynamic IP addresses, then provide Static IP address services by purchase/request i know here in New Zealand Telstra provides Static IP where as Telecom has a pool of IP address which gets allocated upon modem/router connection to their network... once you reset your modem (which i do often) a new IP is provided
  19. manage to open the laptop's casing... to my dismay the cmos battery is soldered to the mainboard... i have zero experience in soldering so bios cold-reset is not an option... :unsure:i've searched online for hours for Aspire One D255E mainboard manual or information with no luck... now i'm stuck with Windows 7 Starter... i miss XP and Linux on my netbook - they tend to run smoother and quicker
  20. yea... i'm wanting to install Windows XP because i find Windows 7 Starter to be a bit slow on my netbook... BIOS password locks me off from actually making any changes to it (just misplaced the pwd in my head... stupid me)... been spending hours searching online for alternative solution with no lucknow i dismantled the laptop to find that the CMOS battery is soldered to the board (i have zero experience in soldering) so i'm stuck with Windows 7
  21. i'm wanting to install Windows XP on my laptops hard-drive... right now i can't get access to BIOS as i have misplaced my password in my head...is this possible? i just wanna know if there's a way i can just throw XP on to the HD and plug it back into the Laptop and boot and hopefully fix up drivers and stuff on ithelp please
  22. as both previous posters mentioned, Linux Mint is more focused on ELEGANCE really... it's also quite easy to use with most codecs included which makes using it alot easier... what i love about Linux Mint is it's ELEGANCE... it's just well layed out and default themes are just plain simple and elegantwhen i first tried Linux Mint last year i fell inlove with it and decided to stick with it... it still is reliant on Ubuntu which is the main drawback but it has it's positive because Ubuntu is a well maintained and growing Distribution
  23. have tried google with no luck, downloaded BIOS and tried flashing from within Windows 7 with no luck... now i'm more looking for information on the model D255E mainboard... and how to get to it as i'm having difficulty on unscrewing a couple of screws on the bottom of the laptop
  24. google+ is still young at age, but knowing that there's alot of google product users, especially with Gmail and Google Search etc. they will gain their share of fans and users... still it's a lot of catchup to the current 700+ million Facebook users
