XAMPP HTML Kit Anachrophelia File Zilla FTP Mercury Mail Pegasus mail client PHP Perl MySQL Linux FireFox Thunderbird FreeBSD want more examples, things are free because they don't cost any money, they do cost some time to download and install , and cost disc space, but you don't have to go to an online or a brick and morter store and pay out money for them. Offering things free allows users that are satisfied with your product to try some of your pay for services or products, and if the FREE product you offer then the thinking is that if the FREE stuff is this good then probably the stuff you have to pay for is at least worth a try.

See the post that show you to go to the home page from the admin.php after you ahave logged in, and while you are there I would strongly suggest that you make the page viewable on by administrators or any body can take over your site by adding themselves as a super user, or better yet do a select all and hit the space bar thereby erasing the whole mess (after you have of course set up the admin). I would also suggest that you themn go to your admin panel and under Edit Admins go in there and give your self a couple of other admins that you can remember easily in case you ever forget your GOD superuser name or password (then all you can do is drop your database, then reinstall it fresh and start all over again). I would also suggest that you move your config.php out of the webspace (where others can acces it) and make a new file calles config.php with one simple statementinclude ("./config.php"); and with your real config.php not being in the PHP_Nuke_root directory you have made the site more secure.

The newest release of PHP-Nuke 7.7.0.3 is out and is the best since they came out with 6.5 which went from the SPLATT forums to the phpBB2 forums. The 7.6 version had too many flaws and i went back to 7.5 but now 7.7 is out and has a WYSIWYG that you use in the AdminControl Panel it is not a BB Code, it is a pretty fancy HTML WYSIWYG however unless you define the advanced editor when you enter your values in your config, php it will then give a bare bones WYSIWYG which is still pretty inpressive, not to mention that it doesn't take long for the page to load, the advanced editor does take a little while because it has to draw all the little icons and it has three sets of them (it individually loads each set and that is kinda silly but that is how it works)Try getting this newest version today if you are new to PHP-Nuke and upgrade if you aren't cause you are missing some really neat stuff by not having this version.

If you had read some of the earlier replies you should have seen this linkhttps://www.phpnuke.org/ Or just do a Search for PHP-Nuke and you should then just go to any of those listed and then click the Downloads then under categories go to PHP-Nuke and right now the latest version is 7.7.0.3 which includes a WYSIWYG that helps in news and message entry and most other Administrative functions. I write Ported MODS for PHP-Nuke and also furnish fully modded and additions to the Plain Jane PHP-Nuke that you get when you get a standard version. My versions are called NukeXtra right now my site is down (the MySQL server has crashed, the host is working on it) the site is NukeXtra there are fixes and corrections to standard versions of PHP-Nuke like the Flags missing in the language interface option which has been around since PHP-Nuke came out (I guess since 6.8 any way) plus you can get MODS for the phpBB forums there that are only availabe at one other site Ported Mods (my site has more true ports) try them both, if my sql is still down try again later.

I just learned something today about being able to use Thunderbird to read Yahoo mail, I am downloading it right now just for that purpose. I am glad I found this post.I also at one point in thime had a linkto an extension for Firefox that allowed you to have plenty of options when right clicking, I am now using Firefox 1.04 and I don't have those options anymore, but I have reinstalled my OS since so that probably went with it.Does anyone know the link to the right click extension or whatever that allows you to insert smilies and BB Code into a post on any forum? If I find it I will post it on these forums somewhere.

In response to the opinion that by 2060 there will be no more 'petrol' on the planet it has been found that actually oil is a renewable resource, and it happens in the ocean later I will give a link to an article about this phenomena,When you produce hydrogen as a fuel you are still causing 'pollution' in the process the only difference is the 'pollution' occurs at the site of production instead of the site of consumption with the net result of not really helping the environment.Right now the only promissing technology is bio-diesal which is actually being used in the United States and Willie Nelson the singer uses bio-diesal to power his tour bus. Learn about bio-diesal and learn about things that are instead of listening to those that try to scare you into thinking that mankind is somehow destroying the earth. There is too much that is not know, and making stuff up aint helping at all. Global Warming is a FARSE!Trees after the mature give off carbon dioxide just as people and animal do, they only take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen into the atmosphere when growing, so mature trees are actually one of the biggest 'polluters' in the world. Get facts not theory, and you'll end up happier.

Illegal Website I have found an illegal website and.....
Houdini replied to iGuest's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Maybe you should have called it a dangerous website instead of an illegal website, if it were truly illegal then it probably wouldn't be there, there are websites that do "illegal" things or offer what would be considered illegal content, but as far as law goes I don't know of a site that has been prosecuted unless it were selling a product that was forbidden like human body parts or things of that nature. You did not mention the website, and it might not have been the site itself, it may have been spyware or adware, and then it just so happened that you noticed it after visiting that site. Unless you went to a site and open it up and it said "Hello thanks for coming to this site, we are not going to infect your computer with a virus, after you have figured out how to fix it come back so we can do it again, Thanks and have a bad day! PS enjoy your free virus compliments of meanwebsite.com -
Disaster Recovery How not to lose important data.
Houdini replied to vujsa's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I just have one problem with relying on a hard drive or RAID or assembley of dirves or partitioning of a hard drive...hard drives fail and can do it at any time, I have had three hard drive failures, one gave a warning on an XP box the others just quit. The best thing to do is get your self a DVD burner and save you important files on DVD for less than $10.00 you can back up at least an entire operating system and all dorts of programs files. I experiment with programs and push the envelope of the machine all the time and download things without much worry, if bad comes to worse, a virus, or an experiment that totaled out my system, I just reinstall from the DVD's that I have ready made just for that purpose. Unless you set fire to them or sit on them or do some crazy things with the DVDs the data stays there forever, and unlike a hard disk all you need is a DVD rom drive to read the data back into your system and you are up and running.I used to do upgrades on the SMART system for WalMart and Sams Clubs in the eastern United States, and they made daily backups using tape drives. If the SMART system goes down the store is dead in the water, there registers don't work and customers start leaving with all their stuff just sitting wherever it was when the failure occured part of the upgrades was installing UPS's and balancing the current load on the servers that were supplied by a dedicated panel and after hooking the servers and periperials up as per WatMart specifications each of 5 circuits pulled within 10% the identical current level.Any scheme that depends on a hard drive alone is bound to fail. -
I have a member that has downloaded one of my MODS for the PHP-Nuke CMS and he is having a problem with viewing the file. Does Front page actually render a PHP file? Becuase I have looked at his code, I tried the Front Page Express once or twice a long long time ago but went to better things. I am sure you should be able touse asp or technologies like that with Front Page, but if I remember correctly Front Page would change your HTML does it do the same with stuff like PHP if it can render it?

Um.... Hello? I'm Uh.. New!? Well as u might have guessed, Im NeW
Houdini replied to Paul's topic in Introductions
Sorry my dear son being young and going to a site like this one could be painful and useful at the same time. If you want to be referred to as DraXXuS then sign in again as just that and use the same password my son ( that I never had, just little girls that grew up). Now let's find out what you want to do with a web site, do you want to start off as a professional with a real website that you can send your friends to...or do you want to learn HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Perl, Visual Basic. MySQL, and more? You can go to my website and for free get a full blown tested Content Management System that you can do with as you please, and as a member ask questions about all the above and actually get a reply...quickly, usually within an hour. Of course you will also need a webserver on your local machine to be sure your new site does what you want it to do so you might want to get XAMPP and after that you are unlimited to tweak your site after uploading it from your local machine. I am a Vietnam Era Veteran with four grandchildren 3 boys and my favorite grandchild (a girl Alexandria), leave a PM to me on that site to either Houdini or Steve and I will help you out. Glad to see a young man ready to learn more than JIVE. -
I don't usually push a website of my own, but this templating stuff it kind of different to me. The easiest way to set up a Professional Web Site is to have a Content Management System like PHP-Nuke or Post Nuke or XOOP. To see what a real working site looks like using about 15 MEG of disc space (not including database, which is unlimited, at least on my host) You will give up the amatuer stuff and start with a professionally designed CMS that you control through the admin panel via the internet realtime without taking down the site of having imcomplete content. Get Real and get a CMS. Get NukeXtra (my own PHP-Nuke versions) just go to my download section and download a fully functional website, all you have to do is read the simple install instruction included with the downloads...this is not an Xisto site this is my main site that is undergoing reconstruction but is fully functional to the end user. You folks might find this a site that you use as a favorite and or bookmark! The link is right here at NukeXtra where I go beyound the template and study and all that...you get aworking site with the ability to add modules, add on and of course Ported MODS that I write...this can only be found at my site, to find out what I say try doing a Google search for PHP-Nuke. Steve DeMarcus Owner/Administrator and Webmaster NukeXtra It is not finished till it is finished. If it were finished that means it is complete, you have merely finished some steps of the process, a web site is never "finished" unless you are dead. It is imcomplete with the links and what not... You should have stated that you just finished uploading an imcomplete site with limited content that is under construction...WHY GET Nuked TODAY my stuff works right out of the BOX NukeXtra
-
Ain't the smartest in the world but if you could let us know what program you are ueing and if there is a trial version it would help others here to help you!
-
FREE it's for me! Nuff said "Steve DeMarcus" NukeXtra I tried the IPB/Nuke...only works with one version of IPB and only offers PHP-Nuke 7.4 (Lazy or understaffed or both)

Problem with IE - Help please... Help please...
Houdini replied to kokushta's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Firefox is definately a great browser and being a Mozilla product just like Netscape it uses the same DOM, it is less likely to be attcked by viruses right now but is becoming more of a target. I am running version 1.4 the newest...I use both browsers IE and Firefox (at the same time) while Firefox uses the same DOM as Netscape it still has issues with adhering to CSS standards (some things that work with IE won't work with Firefox) I know cause I get complaints on my site alot about certain features not working only to find the software they are complaining about was written with the IE DOM in mind...Other than that Firefox is fast, and only about 4.5 MEG so as some one who uses both (at the same time) I would problably use it as my only or at least first browser, but you would have to get it on a cd because without a browser how do you get a browser? FTP? It beats me, but you have to keep IE just to update your windows... so go Linux and use Firefox. -
So I guess that means that for you to send mail it must first go through you ISP! OKThe IDP doesn't care what you email header says as long as it is sending to a valid email address , so I suppose that even though when you sen email through Outlook Express your mail still has a header that let's recipients know that it came from vjgamer.com it is just that the mail serv was a different mail serv. Am I thinking wrong here or what, and is everything OK now?

I did notice a response about not being able to preview something or the other but I am downloading the file just to see what it is and how is corks in Comparison to let's say HTML Kit ( it is a little bigger but it does so much) I love that editor and use it for my PHP as well as XHTML, validating code, CSS and JavaScript, and MySQL.Let you know what I think about this one...I like FREE
-
It would have to be MySQL cause it is free and you almost always refer to PHP and MySQL together, they work quite well together, and my thought is if something is free that doesn't mean it is a piece of junk, take XAMPP or Apache server or the HTML Kit editor (more than just HTML) MySQL, PHP, Linux and the list could go on. I have used the trial versions of some software and found that after a while it was just as good to have the free stuff that is out there. Too many people spend alot of time developing programs and systems that are free just for the challange. It is FREE that excites ME...and even if there are some shortcoming or some features that a free product lacks it is hard to beat the price.

Well since Hunguyen is a NewBee then he might want to start a forum from a free vendor like phpBB , Yabb or YabbSE (now SMF) since he said it was for a group, and from that I take that they would like to use the site to pass messages via the internet without having to check email and all. I used Invision until they started charging for it. Also Yabb, SMF and YabbSE, Mercury Board, PunBB and of course phpBB and phpBB2. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses but overall I still like phpBB (which is why I run PHP-Nuke with phpBB as my forum). If he wanted a full blown easy to administer ready made site I would suggest PHP-Nuke which is a CMS (content management system) Many modules and blocks and addons to choose from and after a short learning curve even a NewBee will be comfortable using such a system. Of course this is just my opinion and I do enjoy my forums but I also need tutorials, news, calander events, weather reports, amberalerts, and more content for my users than just a forum. Also choosing things like this are a matter of browsing the net to look at other systems that are already to go, and hopefully FREE and then after a little research someone should be able to come up with a site that does what they want.

I am running a PHP-Nuke site on a web host that only allows one database so if I wanted to use a forum also in addition to PHP-Nuke I must use different prefixes. My PHP-Nuke has 112 tables and I am setting up an almost identical site minus any other forums, just PHP-Nuke 7.7 on Xisto which allows many databases, so I sucessfully exported my users, and my categories, and the posts, and I even exprted the posts text as well as the download categories and download text tables. The problem I am having is that on the Xisto the forum categories are are shown along with the number of posts in each but the problem is thatonly the first category with three posts has any real posts, even though looking at the table for the posts text it is all ther, but when you click a post in these other categories then it states that they don't exist.Anyone got any ideas as to why this could be happening?

You need a windows emergency startup up disk like from Win 95, Win 98, WinME, or any 'boot disk' that starts your computer in DOS. Most will start the system giving you four options like 1. Help. 2. Start with CD Rom Support. 3. Start without CD Rom Support. 4. Minimal Boot. If you don't choose one of the above it will by default to help. No matter which one it starts with you want to do two things and the first is to fdisk your disk, so choosing option 4. Minimal Boot is the best because you don't need CD Rom support to fdisk or format. when you see the a prompt as below. a> then type fdisk and press enter as below/ a> fdisk | then you will be taken to a screen where you can next delete a logical partition which is what you want to do. After you have deleted the partition you then want to create a partition while still in the fdisk utility. st select option 4. View partition information and make sure that there is in fact no partition defined then you want to define one so in this case it is up to you to decide how much you want for DOS, which windows will work on. Or you could just partition the whole thing as a primary DOS partition. Then you will have to restart your computer and this time you should choose Start with CD Rom Support. Then when you see the a prompt again you want to type in format c: and return as below. a> format c: | this will wipe your disk clean and you can now install whatever software you have.

I have sucessfully installed The IPBNUKE version 7.4 and got it to work as per the install then I used the sm_install.php to install the IPB forums in the forums of the IPBNUKE. I then set up a simple forum and whan I attempted to go to the board home it sends an SQL error
