  1. Hmm I guess you've got a point there. It sounds pretty kewl, and if it gets made I'd love to try it out, and if you need any more php programmers count me in!
  2. O ya just letting you know you won the 5 credits for the challenge... You answered when I was working on the site so it was a bit buggy :(

  3. Well even though phpbb is old and outdated as reconraiders pointed out, I still voted for it because I kind of grew up with it. About 7 years ago ALL of the forums were phpbb and that was pretty much the only one i knew. I didn't hear about the others until only about 2 or 3 years ago... But whenever I need my own forums I always just code my own :)I'm actually thinking of making my own free board like phpbb. Probably a two or three year job
  4. Well since I really have nothing better to do I opened a Xisto credit-giving-out site. HAha... I put up different challenges and the people who correctly answer the challenges get free credits! YAy!~wow i really need to get a hobby....
  5. I have a few friends who are excellent at composing who do most of the music for the games I make. But if there was a royalty free site where I could get music, that would be awesome!
  6. Safari comes with default bookmarks. I suggest you use safari because it is WAY better than internet explorer and especially IE for mac. The IE for mac is TERRIBLE! An easy way to get all your bookmarks from IE to safari:1. Make a new folder on your desktop2. Open IE click on favorites tab on the left3. select all of your favorites in the list4. drag them to the folder on your desktop5. quit IE and open up safari6. click on the book logo in the upper left corner (to the left of your bookmarks bar)7. Drag everything in your folder on the desktop onto the bookmarks bar, (or wherever you want your bookmarks)8. laugh at how pitiful IE is and enjoy safari!
  7. Well yeah it would take them mabey 2-4 days now, but with an idea of limiting it 3 per day, it would take them AT THE LEAST 10 days to get 30, and we all know that they aren't going to be here every day for 10 days posting exactly 3 credits worth of posts. I'm guessing it will raise the amount of posting time for newcomers from 2-4 to 15-25... It sounded like it has a good intention behind it, but it just doesn't quite work for me
  8. We all love the hide tag Hidden ooooooo boy you cant see me untill you CLICK ON ME!! YAY! ooooo fancy! but I think it would be even cooler if you could set some text to describe what is going to be inside the hidebox that goes away when clicking on the show/hide link. Something like this: That would be the "hidden" state, and when clicking on the show/hide it would hide the preview and show the regular content. You could still have the original functionality by keeping the same syntax, but if you want to add the preview you could have it be something like [hide=preview text]hidden content[/hide] Just a suggestion, I know I would use it in my sig, and I think others would probably use it too. What do the members think?
  9. Alas, that seem to have fixed it! I was still using the old version, I must say, this new version is pretty snazzy!
  10. You don't even need SSL. I figured out how to do IPN via paypal, see this thread. All you would have to do is enable IPN, then have paypal send the IP of the buyer back to your website and only allow downloads from that IP address, or you could pass a php session id instead of an IP to make it more secure for networks. This should be easier than setting up SSL.
  11. Aha I figured out how to do it. Paypal offers something called IPN which posts values to your website so the website can add the extra features that the buyer bought for his account, without the buyer having any way of knowing what these variables are. To turn this on, go to my account tab, then profile, then on the right click the link that says "Instant Payment Notification Preferences". I believe you need either a premium or a business account to have this option. Then enable it. There are pretty useful instructions found here.
  12. Just a quick tip, if you keep ending your posts in a signoff they will get edited and you will loose the extra credits, and you might even get warned if you keep doing it :DI'f your finding trouble getting credits I just like going to topics I'm interested in and sharing my opinion. Usually when you just start talking you usually don't stop for a while, especially when your interested in the topic you are rambling on about

I'm not really sure what you meant here because people don't get "addicted" to certain kinds of drinks like they do with drugs. They can get addicted to alcohol in general, but that depends on how much you drink. If you have 2-3 a day at 1.2% i doubt you'd become an alcoholic...And I do believe that aren't allowed to close off your message with a sign off or anything, thats what the sig is for.
  14. Just a suggestion for the site, It would look better if the top banner that said gaming alliance was centered. I know that that was your intention, but I'm sure your one of those people who have an extremely small resolution such as 800x600 and the normal people would like to benefit from your site as well.
  15. Computing host has been always fast, and I've never had a problem with them except the time they updated to php 5, the server didn't parse out the php, but that was a good thing because I actually was i need of php 5 for something on my site. I found them to have the best value out of any other web-host!
  16. Uh oh. that doesn't sound good! I crack my knuckles and the joints on my fingers right above my knuckles about twice a day. God help me!
  17. Well I thought it was much funnier. The story wasn't as good but it was original so thats what made me think it was better.
  18. I don't think any of you understood at all what I was asking, I wasn't questioning the security of paypal or how it works or "Besides Email Notification, What Does PayPal Offer?" which isn't what the initial title of this thread was. I don't know who edited my post but you made it worse... Thanks!
  19. I had a similar dilemma but apparently nobody on this forum knows anything about paypal because none of the replies on my topic found here, remotely answered my question, and on top of that an admin edited my topic title to something that doesn't even have anything to do with the topic so my faith in this forum to be able to answer questions about paypal has greatly fallen. Hopefully you get a decent answer, I sure didn't. If you get an answer I could really use an answer. I really need paypal to somehow run a php page or send the buyer to a php page after buying But a page that ONLY THE BUYER can access ONLY AFTER PAYING!... I wasn't talking anything about paypal security as I guess t3jem thought. Oh well... Good luck with your quest for the answer
  20. I probably wouldn't pay 2 dollars a month for a game especially when just starting, but perhaps if you made the game-play free, but made a special members place that members could get, or even better limit the amount of time free accounts can play per month. Thats just my two cents. I can see from some of the previous replies many would pay outright. I wish you luck with this game!
  21. If any move has been made to fix the shoutbox, it still doesn't work. I don't want to be a nuisance or anything, but it would be nice if the shoutbox worked again... I know that safari is compatible with ajax, just sometimes if the function that sends the data to the server doesn't return the correct value, it won't always receive the data. Perhaps now that safari is out for windows more initiative will be taken? Perhaps you could have it check weather the browser isn't internet explorer or Firefox, or if javascript is disabled, and display a simple php shout-box that refreshes or something? At least that would be better than the blank box that appears
  22. I saw Evan Almighty last weekend, and I must say it was quite the movie. For those who don't know Evan Almighty is the sequel to Bruce Almighty. Evan was kind of like the "rival" anchor in Bruce Almighty, but in the end bruce gives the anchor position to Evan. Anyway back to Evan Almighty. The special effects were pretty amazing, and the overall movie was quite funny, although there was a person sitting behind me in the theater who couldn't stop laughing, even when it wasn't funny, it got quite annoying actually. The movie still managed to make up for it. I liked it even better than the first one because this one is hilarious. Steve Carell does a great job of playing the leading role and I must admit that Wanda Sykes has quite a few funny lines herself. All together I enjoyed the movie and I think I will probably end up liking it more than Spiderman 3 or pirates of the Caribbean 3, because I'm sure you've all heard the bad comments on both.
  23. I've been hearing alot about people saying that spider-man 3 and pirates of the Caribbean 3 really have no story, and were just made for money. That kind of disappointed me because spider-man, pirates, and ocean's 13 were the only movies I was really looking forward to over the summer. I haven't seen any yet, but after I see them I'll report back to this thread what I thought about them.
  24. I wouldn't say that it would be as bad as the hardware because you could always just do a system restore, or format your drive. With hardware you would be forced to pay for new parts to fix whatever the idiots broke
