  1. They've got that google pages, i think it's called where you can design your own web pages, but I don't think it does php, only html...
  2. I know notepad is probably the most common for editing sites, but I use Adobe GoLive CS, which is like Adobe's version of dreamweaver. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't use the "layout mode", which is for noobs who cant code html, but I use it because it color-codes html, javascript, and php for me. I only use the "source" mode, and type my raw code in and watch it be color coded. Its also nice because it has line numbers next to it so if I get an error I can quickly find what is going on.
  3. It's a nice tutorial. Why did you not put this with your other tutorials though? As a php coder myself, I'd have to say for loops suck. I hate them. Sure they save you time, but they just make me angry. They're for people who are too lazy to use a while loop. A while loop can be used for everything, and a for loop is limited to just counting. Nothing against your tutorial though, just ranting on. I'm glad you posted this for those who didn't exactly know what a for loop was. It would have been nice to also have seen a for-each loop explained, (as much as i hate those too). Anyway that's beside the point. Keep up the good tuts!
  4. Some people might believe in a God, or even the same ideas of a certain religion, but have such a big difference somewhere in their belief that they don't consider themselves part of that religion. For example, this doesn't really apply to me because I consider myself a catholic, but I don't believe everything in Catholicism. I don't believe the creation story to be anything as it is portrayed, and I don't believe a lot of what scripture says, even in the new testament, really happened. Now of course I believe that Jesus was a messiah, otherwise I couldn't consider myself catholic, it's just little things. But if somebody believed that He wasn't, or who's beliefs really didn't fit in anywhere else, he wouldn't have his own religion but would still wouldn't be an atheist.
  5. Yes you could always use a web proxy, but most ISP's will release your IP address if you turn of your modem for 5 to 10 minutes, and turn it back on to request a new IP.
  6. Alright I know java, but if you read my sig, you'd know how much i despise it. If you need help with the gui i could help you with that. I'm also not bad with photoshop so I could do some of the graphics for the site. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much time I would be willing to devote to this game, I am already working on 4 other games simultaneously, so I'm not sure how much time i'll have. But i graduate in 2 weeks, and I should have plenty of time over the summer.Aim I getting paid for this?
  7. Alright. I guess I'll start by introducing myself. I'm alex, and I've been an avid mac user for a while now. This is my first tutorial on Xisto so try to bear with me. This isn't an introduction on how to use a mac, or a tutorial that lets switchers understand the difference between a mac and windows, or linux. This tutorial discusses how mac's file management works and what exactly is in the "library" folder or the "users" folder. Since OS X is unix based a lot of this will be similar to linux, but at the same time, a lot will be different. I'm going to try to make this tutorial as graphical, and helpful as possible for those who aren't quite sure where exactly macs keep all their data for the system, etc... Now, If you've used OS 9, you'll notice a lot is different in os x. In os 9, there were 2 folders the system actually used in the startup disk: System folder, and Desktop folder. The desktop folder is the actual folder that held everything you put on the desktop. And the system folder was where all the system files were held. In mac OS X it is much different. Here is a picture of my startup disk, root directory: As you can see... there are alot more folders than a startup disk running only os9 on it has. Before I get into what exactly the library folder does, and why there are so many of them, I need to explain the users folder first. The users folder basically holds all the users on the system. Every user (unless it is a network user), gets his or her own folder in the users folder. Whichever user is currently logged in gets a little icon of a home on their folder. This folder is called their home folder. Inside each user's home folder, there are several pre-made folders. They are folders like movies, music, pictures, and another one of those damn Library folders! A picture of some of the folders in my home folder: Note: These folders are where programs such as iPhoto, iTunes, and other mac apps store their data. This is always useful if you want to find where your actual files are being stored. Also, another folder in your home folder is called desktop. Since every user has his or her own desktop, and cant see each others, this is stored in here too: Now onto the question I get asked the most from new mac users: What are all of those library folders doing? New mac users might be confused at first with all the folders called "library". There is the library in the root directory, there is one when you open up your "System" folder, and there is one when you go to your home folder. So what's the difference? Well that's what I'm going to explain to you now: I'll start with the library folder in your home folder. Basically all the library folders do is hold data for the system. I guess you can imagine them as actual libraries, with tons of books just holding all the information the system needs to run. The one in your users folder holds everything you as a user have set. It holds all your system preferences, like what desktop background you chose, what items are in your dock, some applications also store data in here under the folder "Application Support". This is data that a specific user sets and only pertains to that specific user. For example, safari stores the user's bookmarks in this folder. Now The library folder in your root directory holds different kind of stuff... It holds the data that applies for all users. You may notice in OSX some applications, and other things such as dashboard widgets, screen savers, etc. will ask you if you want to install them for this user only, or all users on the computer. If you select this user only, it will install into the library folder in your home folder, but if you select all users, it installs into the library folder in the root directory. Think of this folder as kind of a public library, where all the users can get and set the same preferences. Some cases call for all the users to share the same data, and if so, OS X stores it in this folder. Now on to the last library on your computer: The library in the "System" folder. Now, don't confuse this with the "System Folder" folder in your root directory, with the big 9 over a folder as the icon. This is the os 9 system. The os X system folder is just called "System". Inside the library folder in the "System" folder, is all the data the actual system needs to work. It doesn't hold preferences, and other things that the other 2 library folders held, it holds the actual system itself. All the applications that are running, along with all the images, and code required for the system to successfully run is in this folder. This folder is extremely dangerous to play around in. In-fact, before Panther (10.3), you needed to be logged in as root in order to change anything in there. Now, all you need is to have an administrators password and you can "Authenticate" your actions. Personally I've found that if you are bored with the way your system looks, you can have a lot of "Fun" in this folder. You can probably find most of the images for the system by just doing a google search of where that image is held. Just be going to a random folder I actually found where the background for the dashboard is held. Go to you startup disk, then System>Library>Core Services>Dock. This is the application that runs the dock and dashboard. To see what is inside, right click, and select "Show Package Contents". Then navigate to contents>resources>perf.png. This is the actual picture that makes the background for the dashboard. You can find many other images in this folder, including your trash icon, the finder icon, the poof animation when you drag something out of the dock, and a whole bunch of other pictures just waiting for you to change them! Just for fun, I'm giong to chagne perf.png. I just drew a big red line through the image so you can tell that it's been modified. And now lets see what my dashboard looks like: Go to you dashboard, and click the plus in lower left to add widgets, and check out the new bar that shows up: Al ot of other applications in the core services folder can be opened and tampered with. If you know what you are doing, you can even change plists to not only change the appearance of the application, but also different functionalities. This doesn't just apply to the applications in core services, almost any application designed for os x will store all the data files within the application itself. This concludes my tutorial on the file management of OS X. Hopefully you learned on how the system works a lot more than you did before. Cheers!
  8. Cool. I'm looking forward to that nobody shall steal my title! ... or else..
  9. I dont know if this is because there is only one movie or not, but when i click on romantic comedy, im expecting a list of all the movies you reviewed that are romantic comedies. Even if its just one. The layout is very nice in my oppinion. The only suggestion to the site itself is it needs more flavor. I'd put a nice big gradient maybe going from light gray, to white as the background. Other than that it looks great. As for the name, needs more butter is quite creative, but if your really want a new name, just go with something classy like Blend Reviles or something, or maybe combine the words movie and review.
  10. Very nice page. The colors match perfectly together. I agree with zyzzyvette. Very minimalistic, and classy look to it. Keep up the good work!
  11. I once made a javascript/php chat in just a text file. After a while as I was adding more stuff like edit, and timestamps, the file started to mess up. Whenever somebody would edit, the chat logs php would have to escape out all the quotes and backslashes. One day i looked at the logs and it was something like: by the way, i just made up those two lines, I never said such thing! But thats not the point, anyway I had alot more control when every message was in sql. In a text file, i had to parse the file for every line every time I checked for stuff like bb code etc... Also, if a user changed his or her username, in a text file it wouldn't update, unless you kept their id in the chat text and replaced it on getting the data, which would be another big hassle. All in all, SQL RULES!
  12. If you are reading this congrats, you passed my test. You see I had a theory here on trap. There are a TON of pointless threads like this one that people only post on to get credits. Nobody reads each other's posts and everybody knows that so it pretty much turns into a spam fest. I edited my original post to include this extra paragraph and I want any member or admin who finds this post to PM me. instead of adding this paragraph I could have easily pasted a whole bunch of random text and got a ton of credits for this! And nobody would notice because nobody has the patience to read through 53+ pages of content!!! So I want to see if this had been actually true and sombody in this thread edited their post to be nothing but coppied material or just random words to spam how long it would take for admins to notice! I edited my post to this on 9/26/07. Here was what my original post said: I personally use safari as my primary browser. The first version had a ton of bugs, I know, but apple is doing everything they can to make safari bug free. It is already better than the mac version of firefox. I don't think the coders who ported ff over to mac cared to much because there are a TON of bugs. Whenever safari doesn't work right and i'm forced to use a different browser i use camino. Its a version of mozilla that is specifically for mac, and doesn't have any bugs when compiling html. Firefox has one bug that really annoys me, which is if you have a flash object, and you set the background to transparent, it doesn't do it! Doesn't work at all. Just makes the background of the flash white. It works in every other browser except the mac version of ff. Opera is another browser nobody cared if the mac version worked or not. Every table on every single website is f'ed up...
  13. I see that xp has the same res icons that osx has. :\Nice icon set though, very XPish...
  14. Have you seen these? They're hillarious.
  15. This is hilarious. They mixed clips from the movie with new stuff they shot for this. What do you think?
  16. Safari does support ajax, but if it's written poorly, it doesn't have as much give-way as other browsers have. But i've been able to use ajax with safari on other sites, as well as code ajax for safari just fine.
  17. Damn, this game looks intense! I've been looking forward to UT3 for a while. I have to admit, the way epic games has numbered their sequels is quite odd. I mean, Unreal, Unreal II The awakening, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal Tournament 3?????? I mean seriously. I think the angry nintendo nerd had a point in this video...
  18. A few questions:1) Is this game going to be coded in c++?2) Is this game going to have 2d or 3d graphics?3) Are you going to use opengl?4) Do you need a web developer to code the home-page of this site? If so, I'd do it for you.
  19. <sarcastic>Wow that stuff really works, i tried it, and then i said ajemboshkya-ajemboshkya and he did a tap dance for me! Try it!</sarcastic> <sarcastic>Oh NO!!! I didn't read that line and my friend saw a light and he died!!!!!! Great now i have a death of my friend on my conscience.</sarcastic>
  20. Yes i've got JS on. It's worked up untill you guys changed something. If i remember correctly, there was no shout-box for like a day, and then it came back, updated, but ever since then it never worked. I never really minded, but it would be nice if it worked again.
  21. Google php editor? What does it have anything to do with google? And no linux or mac version? It looks kind of neat though. I might boot to windows just to check it out!
  22. Heh, sounds like there's an equals sign missing in an if statement somewhere in the code anyway I was wondering about the personalized titles, after you change it once, can you change it again without having to post more?
  23. The logo already has a slogan "The best free hosting on the web!". And as for the logo itself, I'd say it looks decent. I like that nice reflection on the bottom. Very classy... and very mac-ish
  24. I wasn't sure where else to put this but basically the shout-box doesn't work in safari. At all. I don't know if i can send messages or not, but none of the messages show up. The old shoutbox worked until you updated it, and i thought you would fix it or something, but i guess this is the final product because it hasn't worked for about 5 months. It would be nice if it worked again for us safari users! Thanks
