Make Firefox 4x Faster. Get DSL Speeds With Dial-up on firefox.

Recommended Posts

I have found some settings for a faster connection net.

Find network.http.max-connections

This setting determines how many simultaneous HTTP connections can be made. Default is 24, change it to 48.

Find network.http.max-connections-per-server

This setting determines how many simultaneous connections can be made to a single server. Default is 8, change it to 16. But setting it too high will create problems and your connections could be refused.

Find network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy

This setting is useful if you use a proxy server. Which determines how many connections to keep alive at any time. Default is 4 set it to 8.

Find network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server

If you dont use a proxy server then try this. Default is 2 change it to 4 or 8.

thats great, I have been using Firefox for a long time, and I just found out about that config thing. My Firefox is pretty fast, I bet that will make it a whole lot faster. My only complain though, on the Firefox, is that it is noticeably slower when I first open it. If i click the open Firefox icon, and a couple of seconds later I click the open explorer icon, explorer beats Firefox by a lot of time.

I think that it needs to be the following:

[find the string]network.http.pipeliningdouble click and change the value to True

[find the string]
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
double click and change the value to 57

[find the string]
browser.turbo.enabled
double click and change the value to true

I was just wondering if these features were set the way they were for a reason... I mean the people at firefox probably set these this way because of a possible problem they ran into. Just curious if there was a possible security reason they set this up this way. Just my two cents..

It's not enabled by default because it's only useful if you have a broadband connection. It could actually slow down your browsing if you're using dial-up because it can't handle so many connections at once with such little bandwidth. It also puts more stress on the server you're connecting to.

It can't be 4x faster if your dial-up line maxs out.

This tip works best on broadband connections.

This small hack make the page appear to load faster, but it seems to be just rendering the HTML quickly and then the images (and other content) later.

What it's doing is allowing Firefox to open more connections with a server at one time. It shouldn't change the way the page is rendered.

meh.. i did that on the computer and it is CRAP.. IT slowed my internet moz friggin DOWN.. That little trick is also posted all over the world in nearly every 'young' forum i've been to.

It's actually very useful... if you have a broadband connection. I'm guessing you have dial-up, and you're opening too many connections for your line to handle, so it's actually slowing down.

Thanks much for the tips, but there is nowhere "browser.turbo.enabled".

Could you give me a tip for displaying it?

You might need to add it yourself. Right click underneath the column Preference Name, select New, then click on Boolean.

In the first box type browser.turbo.enabled, click OK. In the next window, select true, click OK.

That's browser.turbo.enabled added. :P
