dexter 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I right now kinda still stand for "Games ARE NOT a waste of time" but, after reading the newspaper (I'm only 14, ok?), a 16 yr old played for 15 hrs straight and was sent to the hospital, 3-4 years ago, two teens played DIABLO II for 26 hrs straight, one died because of the game; but seriously, who's that stupid? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Only 15 hours...? What is this world coming to...? Yeah, I like games, and it's my form of entertainment... so what if it's a waste of time, isn't any entertainment a waste of time anyway? eiteljoh 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 agreed. i'm not that old - i'm 28, but i guess i was lucky, and am at a lucky age. when i was a kid i would, the big excitement was when i got a bike, and i'd play in outside, building forts, etc. and now kids are more into computers and videos, i think they're missing out on their childhood. though i could be wrong. dexter 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 (edited) Ah, I understand what you mean, but I was referring to the small amount of time... I mean... hospitalised after 15 hours, wimps... they should be able to get at least 24 hours... pfff...Though, I'm rather intruiged in the -how- of the Diablo kid's death... was it dehydration...? The spasmodic twitching that sets in after 25 hours...? Or what? Here's a lad that died: Hong Kong Diablo Death Edited January 6, 2005 by dexter (see edit history)
lantactics 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Video games are not a waste of time lolz. They are a great way to let your mind be free. Getting away from stress and just having a good time. I think playing games are very good for people.
static 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2005 I wouldn't say that video games are a complete waste of time but sometimes they can be. During the summer or this past winter break, most of us played some type of video game to keep ourself entertained or busy. During school days or when you have work to do most people hold off on the gaming and finish their work up. Then they have the rest of the time to play video games. So playing video games isn't a complete waste of time but rather a way to keep yourself entertained and busy during long breaks when the work is done. maxfire 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2005 I don't think video games are a complete waste of time. Video games are only a waste of time when they start to become an obsession and overtake someone's life. But if they are played for short hours on a regular interval they can become a recreational or a leisure activity like watching a movie. Personally, I would prefer to play a game rather than read a book. Anyway, scientists have proved that playing video games can improve your speed of reaction and reflexes, so it?s not a complete waste of time after all. Milk 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2005 Video games are only a waste of time when you're overweight and need to excercise/play sports. >_>I play videogames just for the fun and enjoyment of it, but I'm not a huge, "oh me gah, i'ma play video games for 10 hours straight!" gamer. I play it casually from time to time and enjoy it like so. They're basically something to do....I mean, it's better to play a video game than to loll around watching tv..I mean, at least you're thinking about something and doing something...right?And there have been instances where games can be helpful towards education and 'health'. Education meaning, you can learn words from rpgs, or some games incorporate like, how trains work and stuff from real life, and you learn how they work while having fun. The health part, I mean as there was a story about how dislexic(sp?) people were introduced to some game that helped them in sorting out this and that. It was really interesting anyways. All in all, videogames shouldn't be counted as a complete waste of time....I mean, that's like saying posting here is a complete waste of time. =/
gbjack 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2005 To me it is in fact a waste of time. After playing, I get addicted and skip lunch, dinner and meeting with friends. I loose sleep and keep playing and playing. I think the games companies are the ones making profits and it is inly good for them. Furthermore I read that playing too much games make you stupid and stuff like that. So when my computer crash. I stop installing all my games and get on with my "normal" life. Cool_Freaker 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 They are a waste of time, and it's a generally accepted fact, is it not? :rolleyes:That's why you play em, simple for the enjoyment and time consumption. There shouldn't really be other reasons to play? I guess video games do have more of a social aspect than most critics would suggest though, joining clans or teams, socialising in that respect can be rewarding. Apparantly, it also improves your reaction time and your hand eye co-ordination... I would say it's probably less of a waste of time than watching popcorn movies or some trashy tv drama. X3r0X 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 Who cares if they are a waste of time (i dont think so btw). I mean, my friend made $400 in a day playing a WC3 tournie in his town (Australia).I mean he was in a pro clan and got sponsored to play etc. etc. so i mean, when you are on the computer learning some programming language and you play games on the side then im fine with it

And that time you spend may not be = to the amount you may have gotten in a proper job, but who am I to disagree with.(Honestly, if I had the capacity to do so, I would enter and want to win also )
