  1. Hey all, Just thought I would stop by the forum first thing to say sorry for missing you all for such an extended period of time. It wasn't an intentional move to say the least. I had to take my computer offline for a while and reset the entire system because a freakin' worm got ahold of our computer somehow. That's a real pain in the butt, and tedious work reinstalling everything. There's a little bit of silver lining to this predicament! Since I was working on my computer anyhow, we ended getting a new hard drive with 160gb of space along with the original hard drive that already had 40gb space. So, I don't think I'll be running out of space anytime soon. :PNow I just have to work on getting my hosting credits up to snuff again. But that shouldn't take too long considering I love to talk in these forums anyway. So, I'll be sure to chat more.Later.
  2. This is an intriguing question... It's also a very common one with webmasters. As far as I know and/or believe, you cannot offer DOWNLOADABLE music from your site that is copyright protected, that law doesn't state that you don't have a right to offer it for listening pleasure. I look at it this way; If you can hear the song on the radio, which is free to everyone so they can hear new music, it's most likely not illegal to offer for listening on a website, as long as you aren't making a profit from your site. If your site is commercial and you are using an artists song, they have a right to a percentage of the money you bring in as long as you use their song. But I imagine that whatever song you choose to upload to the server is legal to offer for listening pleasure on a non-profit website as long as you aren't offering it for download. If someone figures away around your security protection of a song, they're doing something illegal and not you. But that doesn't mean you can't be held accountable for the theft of the music from your site. Also, depending on how you are planning to share music with your visitors, I would suggest using some form of online player. It's quite annoying to go to a site that automatically starts playing music. Especially if you are already listening to music on your computer. Later, A P.S. I may be incorrect about the legality of what I mentioned above, as I said, this information is as good as I know and/or believe. Which doesn't make it true, so it's kinda chancey either way...
  3. I personally don't get why everyone is attacking Internet Explorer, it's still one of the most popular web browsers according to online statistics. As far as security problems go, Microsoft has been updating IE 6 with security fixes for a while and are planning to release IE7 sometime in the near future, which is supposed to be packed with features. As for Web Standards, as it was pointed out earlier, Internet Explorer meets W3C standards, but there are a few things that I would suggest Microsoft get in gear with, like supporting PNG Transparency?! It annoys me without end that I can create and awesome looking graphic and save it as PNG file just to have IE users unable to view it properly because IE doesn't support the transparency feature that using PNG is so commonly used for...Grrr! I'm hoping that this is fixed with the release of IE7... That would be my only reason to say that IE needs an update. Later, A
  4. According to this test, I'm below the average of my age range, but whatever I do career wise I will succeed in because apparently I'm well rounded in the knowledge department. Knowing enough about various subjects to go on in many subjects without sounding like a complete idiot, apparently. But, I never take these tests to heart. As was mentioned already, I believe only a certified professional that costs a lot of money would accurately be able to tell me what my IQ is. So, it's nice to know what these people think of my intelligence, but I can wait forever for the accurate answer, because your intelligence does not dictate your ability to do and/or learn something. Timing is the only real difference.. Given enough time and education, everyone could be considered a genius, I believe... Later, A.
  5. Well, for starters, I love all genres of music, I just prefer some genres more than others. I listen to all of them though, just not equally as much. My top prefered genres would have to be Adult Contemporary/Easy Listening, Glam Rock, and Alternative Rock. My least prefered genres would deffinately have to be Country, Heavy Metal, and Rap & Hip Hop. I like to listen to them on occasion, but in general I usually find something far better to listen to. Later, A
  6. I'm not exactly sure how fast our actual internet speed is, we use Qwest DSL. I would think that our connection is pretty fast as Xisto is the only site so far (knock on wood) that has been loading fairly slow. It probably does have something to do with the new skin. The more graphics a site has on it, the slower it loads. I liked the original skin anyhow, but if they want this one, I really don't have too much of a problem waiting a few more seconds. I remember having a 56k modem connection, so this load time is quick compared to that connection speed. I could never handle coming to this site using a 56k. It would drive me completely insane. I'm sure the Admin is on it though. Probably still trying to locate the problem...
  7. I really like this sig. It's not as detailed as it probably could be, but simple looks are really good too (saves on load time) and you seem to have made a quality sig and keep it simple. Cudos to you! Background: 8/10 Font: 5/10 (didn't much care for the font) Overall: 8.5/10
  8. I'm unsure what, exactly, you are talking about. I'm getting something about a straight line on the left side of my sig? I don't see a straight line, or at least I'm not seeing what you see. Well, obviously. Why else would I be asking what you are talking about... Anyhow, as I mentioned before. The border is supposed to look exactly the way it does now. Smoothing it out would take away the look I wanted it to have. They are jagged like that because the corners are supposed to resemble arrows. If I smoothed it out, they wouldn't look that way anymore. Later, A
  9. I found out the reason I was unable to logon to my Cpanel and FTP connection. My account had been suspended temporarily, because I did run out of credits. I didn't realize that my credits reset after activating my hosting, so I thought I would have at least 2 days to work on setting up my website without having to post and still have 8 credits left after the 2 days.. My bad..lol I just wanted to know what happened at the time. I have gotten my hosting back, that same day in fact, and I will deffinately be sure to post at the very least two posts a day. If they are both good and lengthy, without being pointless babble, I should be able to keep a stable increase in my credits. Thanks again for the help, A
  10. Thanks for the re-review of the second sig. I actually like doing this, I might have to create graphics more often and just show them off, give them away, or both. Thanks again for the suggestions and compliments, A
  11. What are three of my favorite movies and whay? Well, I could probably give you much more than that, but I'll try to narrow the list to three for ya... Phantom of the Opera (1987 - Robert Englund) - I have always loved this version of "Phantom of the Opera" not only because it can make you jump in your seat (at least it used to, before I watched it so many times that I can tell you what is going to happen in the next scene), but also because of some of the awesome music and costumes used. Besides, who could pull off the phantom better than Robert Englund? He played Freddy after all... Bram Stoker's Dracula - I don't think anyone has made a better version of this or ever will. This version has an all-star cast, a rich story-line, and it keeps your attention through out the entire movie. I especially like how much more descriptive they are in this movie versus other Dracula movies you can find anymore. Pride & Prejudice (w/ Colin Firth) - Being that I am a big `Period Piece' fan, it's no wonder I love this movie. Granted, most people couldn't and probably wouldn't sit through the length of this version of Pride & Prejudice, but I haven't found another that follows so closely to the book that you can practically follow along. I especially like Colin Firth playing Mr. Darcy. He was the perfect person for this part... Alright, you have my most favored three movies... I never realized, until doing this, how many movies I actually have on my favorite movies list. May I never have to do this again...lol
  12. Hold on a sec. Let me see if I got this right. After requesting and being granted hosting, all of the credits you might have still had are reset to 2.00 credits? Cause I was able to get hosting for package 1 the day before yesterday and when I was trying to login through my FTP program, it wouldn't log me in. Figuring I might have typed something wrong, I retyped everything. It still didn't seem to want to work for me. This time, I get on my browser and head to my cpanel, again it refuses to let me login... How fast, after gaining hosting, do our credits depleat? 1 credit a day? I'm guessing this because next to the total number of credits you have it states `Days'. Is that how it works?
  13. Granted, I'm still kinda new here and I am not sure how many times you have created different templates for your website and asked opinions on it. But I couldn't imagine why it would really matter what everyone else thinks... It's your site, right? After all is said and done, you are really the one left to make the decision. You just had more input into which one pleased the majority more. I say if you don't like your own design, scrap it! Getting suggestions for improvement is great, but asking what you should use as a template for your own website is a little fruitless. Don't ya think? Later A
  14. A very intriguing combination of colours. Personally, I wouldn't have used those shades of blue and yellow. You could use them together, because their both primary colours, but you have to use them as accents, not a full blown colour scheme. Other than the colours, I like the actual layout of your website. It's simple, clean, easy to navigate, and it works for your sites content. Overall: 6/10
  15. I really like it. It's not "over the top," but still catches your eye. A few changes I would suggest; change the reflection and blend it into the background a bit (giving it a fading with distance look) and maybe make the text contrast the background a little more than it does currently. Overall: 9.5/10 Great job! Later, A
  16. Alright, first; thanks for the feedback on this sig. Second; the pixelation that you are talking about on the border was purposely added in. The corners are supposed to look somewhat like an arrow. In the following sig (v.2) I have changed a few things taking your advice and fixing up a few other things. Let me know if it's better or not.
  17. Well, I figure that since it seems that you all are willing to rate an image/graphic that I would post one of my other sigs up for viewing/rating. The theme I had going for this specific sig was one of my favorite movies "The Labyrinth," with David Bowie... Let me know what you think. Later, A
  18. Thanks for the info. I kinda figured it was something kinda like that, but making sure is always the best way to go about getting information. I like your sigs btw... Thanks again, A.
  19. Very, very nice. I like that sig a lot. It's pretty original too, I haven't seen one quite like that before. Call me dumb if you wanna, but what is a `Gift Sig' exactly? I've heard a little about this from around the net, but still do not quite get what it is exactly. Do you make sig temps and give them away to people or something similar? Just thought I'd ask... Later, A
  20. I would have to say AWESOME! I Like what you did modifying the original image, and I love the texture and blending you did on that sig of yours. I'd say the person was blind if they can't see how good your sig is. Later, A
  21. I'm not 100% sure on this, but due to the fact that I'm still fairly new to the forums, I believe most of the Moderators are doing a pretty good job with consideration for human error/need. There are probably so many moderators from all around the world, so not all of them are online at the same time, sometimes none are on at all I'm sure. For those that are around, that I've witnessed, they are active within the forums themselves, helpful, and try keeping people out of trouble and organizing the forums as best they can. I know from experience that moderating/administrating a forum is quite a job indeed. I would have to say that the Moderators of Xisto are doing the best they can with what they can. It also helps if other members of the forum, especially those that have been around for a while, also help out by any means they can appropriately, not being a moderator themselves they are limited in what they can do. But in a worse case scenario they can at least report it to the moderators so they can take care of whatever the problem is.
  22. Yes, I remember hearing about the discovery of a 10th planet within our solar system, further than Pluto. They gave it a serial number for a name, then later started calling it Sedna. Below I found a link to a british news site that gives more details about the discovery of this 10th planet. I don't believe it's a threat to any other planet in our solar system. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3511678.stm Later, A
  23. I would have to agree that blocking any specific browser from accessing your website is going to drop your sites reputation drastically! A lot of people are switching over to Firefox browsers because of the security problems related with using IE (Internet Explorer). To deny access to just one specific browser is going to hurt your hit count to the point that, I'm sure, you will probably rethink blocking Firefox. I personally use MSN Explorer Premium, but I used to use Firefox, and still do on occasion. You're only going to hurt your own sites rating by blocking browser access. As for your site, as I said before, your images are not loading in my browser. I don't know why this is, but do to the fact that I can't even see your graphics and you have blocked one of my favorite browsers I will have to give you 2/10 rating. My suggestion: Fix the images on your website, and make your site available to the entire world wide web and all browsers that access it. Later, A
  24. I'm not sure what's up, but after entering the main part of your website, none of your images are visible. They are all broken images instead of what should be there, with the exception of the Xisto button you have on the left. That is the only image I can actually see. I don't know if that's just a problem on my side or if you changed something recently and it messed it up, but I just thought I'd let you know anyhow. If it's not my side that's at fault, I'll check again later and give you my input on your website, until then I will keep my opinion to myself. Later, A
  25. Although the title banner seems to be a little 'stretched,' the overall website look and feel is simple and easy on the eyes. I think it's one of the better simple templates I've seen in a while. My only suggestion to you is to try and fix your banner image so it doesn't appear as stretched out. It's a little distracting...
