  1. I am not good at RTS games, but i don't mind the single player campaigns. What i liked most about StarCraft is that i could make my own maps, and that is the part of the game i played the most. The unit technologies introduced for SC2 is very interesting, though i'm a bit disappointed that the Terran don't have many anti-air ground units. Concerning the map editor, it is a bit hard to use, but it bears a lot of potential, especially for RPG custom maps. You have a lot of room to work with and it is like working in a 3D modeling program. I haven't played much of the Beta since i could only play multiplayer and it wouldn't allow me to play against the computer. And it seems the game has jumped on the Facebook train like just about everyone else has. I can't say i'm excited about the game, but i'd be interested in playing it.
  2. There is a program called "mountmanager" in the Ubuntu repository that you should try out. It is basically a frontend to /etc/fstab, though i wouldn't necesarily say it is user-friendly, but it is the best that i have found and used. You should consider installing it, tell it where to mount your hard drives, and save the changes. You may have to tell it to mount your hard drives if they are not already mounted. If you don't know how to do that but have picked a location for Windows-compatible partitions, then you can restart your computer. Just be sure not to mess around with the location of the root (/) parition.
  3. Anyone who assumes that calories are a major concern or the only thing to be worried about when trying to stay healthy shouldn't assume they know how to stay healthy (and may have been fed by the wrong kind of media?advertisements). Calories should only be a worry if you are overweight (obiese) and your metabolism isn't that great. It should be noted, though, that foods high in calories tend to be high in fat also, mostly saturated fat?one of the worst kinds of fats. Out of the three items you list, the sandwich would (should) be the healthiest (though i am personally against ham). I would assume the second healthiest would be the taco (since you don't really mention much about it, and so the least i can assume about it is that it is made out of beef, spices and a fried crust). Are you overweight? Do you have mediocre metabolism? Why then do you worry about calories? There are plenty of other things to be concerned about when it comes to health. What are other things to be concerned about with the foods you eat? Fat content, sugar content, vitamin content, mineral content, fiber content, et cetera. Shouldn't you be concerned about what goes into your food also? Do you look at the ingredients when eating something already prepared for you? The nutrition facts label on the side of every container provides all the information it does for a reason. Try multiplying the servings per container with the nutritions listed, in accordance to what the package defines as a "serving." Many people tend to assume that the nutrition listed is for the entire container and not per serving. This will only lead them down the road of unhealthiness a lot quicker.
  4. A CMS that works with a database would be more CPU intensive, since you are not only running the parser for the language the CMS is written in, but that very same parser would be communicating with an external program. However, this does not mean that it will affect performance significantly. Only when you are trying to make a lot of calls to the database should performance be considered. This is why popular CMSs have their own cache system. Cache helps make big, popular websites that make use of a database scale better. Cache is just flat files with their own identifier (usually as their file name) to later be retrieved by the script. This alone should tell you that flat files have some domninance over a database when it comes to performance. However, a database is much better suited for retrieving arbitrary information and for storing personal data. A properly built CMS that makes use of a database would be able to tell when a query should be cached or not.Whether or not you should make use of a CMS that uses a database depends on your site and what you want to provide. Are you planning on having people comment on your articles (if any)? Are you going to "post and forget"? Would you like people to search your website? What do you mean by "expand": content size or what it offers to users and therefore attracts users? Might as well choose a CMS that makes use of a database. There's no loss in going with one if you decide to later stop working on the site. At least then you won't have to set your site up again when migrating to another CMS.
  5. On an Ubuntu system, the desktop environment is usually what mounts portable drives for you, and they are mounted somewhere in the /media directory. Once they are mounted, they will be listed in the file manager's location panel. When deciding to remove the device from its port, it is advised to unmount the device through the file manager. In this way you can be notified if the device is busy or if it is safe to remove the device from its port. The operating system will not allow you to unmount the device if it is busy (i.e. in use by the system). This does not prevent you from removing the device from its port, but if you remove it before the system is done using it, then you can corrupt any data inside the device. The CD drive only gets mounted when you insert a CD into the drive. Otherwise it is not mounted, as there is no need to mount the device if it doesn't have any content. The system will know that it is there so long as the motherboard can recognize the device, but the CD drive will not be mounted simply because it has been detected. When the device is mounted, depending on the desktop environment, you may be informed that the device has been mounted and its (temporary) location. Many desktop environments do not inform you, so if you were waiting for such a notification, you won't get one from those. However, the drives will still be accessible by any program that wishes to access the drive since the drive has been mounted.
  6. I would test it out if i had Opera 10.10, but i like to keep up to date with Opera, and so i am running 10.60 and i can see the background image. If i remember correctly, 10.60 is the latest stable. Just like Firefox users, many/most Opera users keep up to date as well, so i don't expect there to be much of a problem with Opera users.
  7. The average Linux distro only needs about 2 gigs for the system alone. So long as you place all your personal files else where, the most you'll probably ever need for a Linux system is 10 gigs (even then that may be a bit too much). You can create new partitions on which ever can provide room for the Linux system. In fact, you can even install and run Linux from a USB flash drive (though it would perform slower than from a regular hard drive). But i would still recommend getting an extra hard drive. Xfce, the desktop environment for Xubuntu, has support for picking up and displaying all kinds of drives: CD/DVD drives, USB drives and hard disk drives.
  8. Since even after much defragging there is no telling whether or not you would lose (important) information after resizing a Windows partition, i would therefore recommend simply getting a new hard drive with small capacity (about 20 gigs) for using Linux.
  9. Those images are simple enough to trace them. I am not sure which program you are using to enlarge the images, but what you can do is download InkScape, a SVG image editor, and trace them there, then enlarge them from there. Vector images rely on mathematical formulas to generate shapes. For this reason vector images can be resized to any size without losing quality. Tracing images isn't hard, and if you are not used to doing so, then this will be a new experience for you.
  10. If you think the BBC could ever present anything on the topic of religion the way they are supposed to, then i suppose your best friend can only be called Disappointment.
  11. Let's get back on topic. If you want to discuss other matters, IPB conversations allow you to invite others into the conversation, so you can continue the irrelevant discussions in there. Thank you.
  12. Vegetarian junk food? Now that is something you don't see every day. Didn't think such a thing could exist. Unless you mean that the junk food you eat does not contain any animals "products" in them, i would have thought that vegetarian food is more cautious. It should be noted, though, that these toxins tend to come from preprocessed, often scientifically modified, food. Doesn't matter if these products claim to be made for vegetarians, toxins can still be found in them.
  13. Warzone2100 had (has) awesome music. Devil May Cry 3 had (has) a few interesting ones. The song Lost Courage from DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2 is awesome. Some of the Megaman games had (have) cool music. Call of Duty World at War had (has) some interesting music. Some of the Command and Conqueror games had cool music, especially Red Alert 2. Final Fantasy 8, there were two favorites from it, The Man With The Machine Gun and the song The Landing.
  14. I noticed that too, and i would prefer it this way if it shows the total amount that we currently have, since it is more intuitive. It is possible that it'll restack after posting more, but the only way to tell (outside of OpaQue) that the script isn't showing a stack after posting more is by purchasing or paying for something. If it shows our current amount, i would like to make a suggestion to change the word "Earned" to "Total" or something along those lines.
  15. AJAX is just a complex name for a feature built into JavaScript. It is supposed to be used for retrieving and parsing XML, but of course people would use it for other reasons. Yes, JavaScript is just a scripting language, and, as such, it cannot do anything on its own. If the browser doesn't support AJAX features, then no matter what, your script that makes use of AJAX technology will not work.Tutorials may be based on the kind of JavaScript framework one may use. W3Schools has a barebones tutorial on AJAX; if you are using a JavaScript framework (e.g. Prototype, JQuery, et cetera), you'll have to check their documentation.
  16. 1. The folder name, i would suspect, could really be anything. I'm pretty sure you can even use "index.html" as the folder name and the image would still load. While i have not tested the script in that fashion, i would expect it to work like renaming a PNG file to a TXT file. All you are doing is changing the name, not the contents of the file. Opening the file in a text editor will still give you the jumbled text. 2. Since the actual path of the images is only known by the script (especially if the path is outside public_html), the only way to access the images (though with random variation) would be through the PHP script. Since the image will always have the same name but different contents, i cannot say that the browser's cache system would be involved here, and the image will always have to be downloaded. I do not know of a way to prevent people from downloading the image from the PHP script. But i can say that when they try to save it, they may get a different image than what they want, since the script will always pick an image randomly.
  17. I'd be surprised if Internet Explorer 8 even supported one HTML 5 element. Don't expect anything from Internet Explorer until at least Internet Explorer 9. If i'm not mistaken, the VIDEO element was introduced to so web designers could create their own UI theme for the web browser media player rather than having some other design that doesn't match their site. I have not done any research on how to actually implement the VIDEO element, so i cannot help you on that, but i would suspect there to be some attribute that you specify that is used to designate or provide the geometry of the buttons so when the user clicks on a certain area, the relative function would be called. CoffeeCup, like any HTML editor, should be able to provide you with a list of supported attributes for that element. I'm sure HTML 5 is still a draft, so more things may be introduced or changed or removed, and so i would assume the only HTML 5 elements that CoffeeCup supports is whatever has been made final in the draft. Its move to support HTML 5 elements (and CSS3), i would assume, is mostly for future-proofing their software and to reduce their work in that area in the future.
  18. It appears you are in luck: i still have my old sig rotater script. <?php$path = '../images/sigs';$i = 0;$imgDir = opendir ($path);while ( $file = readdir( $imgDir ) ){ $file_type = strrchr( $file, "." );$is_image = eregi( "jpg|gif|png",$file_type ); if ( $file != '.' && $file != '..' && $is_image ){$images[$i++] = $file; }}closedir ($imgDir);srand( (double) microtime()*1000000 );$image_name = $path . '/' . $images[rand( 0,sizeof( $images ) -1 )];$imgSize = GetImageSize( $image_name );if ( $i == 0 )die();readfile("$image_name");?>It is really old code (made to work with PHP 4), so i am not sure of its performance, but it is easy to implement. All you have to do is create a folder with just about any name; though, naming it as "image.jpg" or something along those lines may be more appropriate. Then you just put the PHP script in that folder, then change the $path variable to where the images you want to use are stored in, and, finally, provide the path to the folder in an IMG element, for example: <img src="/path/to/image.jpg/"/> Back when i used this script, the only problem i had was that some browsers would remember the size of the previous image and therefore distort the next image until you reloaded the image. However, you won't have to worry about that in this case, since all the images will be the same size.
  19. I didn't say fiber is unhealthy, but it should be noted that too much fiber will cause internal bleeding. Fiber helps with your bowel (as in help clean things up a bit and promote bowel movement, which helps prevent constipation), but since it is a bit rough, too much fiber and it will start scraping against your internal walls. You may not have to worry about eating too much fiber from fruits and vegetables, but since grains will be a significant part of a vegetarian diet, you may be at risk of eating too much fiber. I would suspect vegetarians to go more for the whole wheat grains instead of the "white food" (given the fact that some research is required before entering a complete vegetarian diet) and so be taking in more fiber, but also because of any research they should be well aware of the side effects of taking in too much. While on the topic of fiber: a good way to tell if your body lacks fiber is if you take days to go to the bathroom to do "number 2" after eating a meal. It shouldn't take days, it should be quicker than that, at most a day.
  20. Unless i'm mistaken, you can register at Xisto with the same e-mail you used to register with the myCENTs system and you can earn myCENTs by posting over there till the system is up and running here.
  21. It is possible to live as a vegetarian, so long as you don't avoid all animal products (e.g. cow milk, eggs, et cetera). This is a big mistake and has caused malnutrition for "hardcore" vegetarians, and i'm sure you can find reports where their diet caused death due to the malnutrition. However, if any vegetarian is looking to gain some weight, they'll have to change their diet. Foods with fiber in it is not more easily digestable for the body than foods without fiber. Fiber itself is indigestable, and so anything that the body can digest that the fiber is fused with means more work for the body because the fiber is then in the way of what the body can digest. This is one of the reasons why it is good to eat fiber with foods that contain a bit of sugar or fat, as it takes a bit longer for the body to absorb what it can digest. Some fruits contain fiber, and these fruits tend to be very sweet, so it makes for a nice pair. Do you know why commercials emphasize the adjective white when they say "white meat" (though there is no other color that poultry can be found in)? Because some studies found a link between red meat (pork and all of its variations, beef, et cetera) and patients with cardiovascular disease; some stating that those that ate more white meat than red meat lived longer lives, while those who ate more red meat died earlier. Because of this, the media has done a fine job in getting us to think that eating red meat will increase the chances of cardiovascular disease. While i would agree that pork should be utterly avoided, believe it or not, this information is not enough to conclude that eating red meat, or any kind of meat, will reduce your life. There was no mention of the person's daily lives, whether or not they exercise, what kind of meat was eaten the most from both categories (simply stating "more red meat" or "more white meat" is not enough information), what else was part of their diet, no background history. From either a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian viewpoint, it should be safe to say that the media concerning who lives longer is not to be wholly trusted. The argument you provide that if one does not cook their vegetables, they would gain more nutrients, does not conclude that humans are therefore meant for a vegetarian diet; that is non-sequitur. The fact that humans can safely digest meat of various kinds, and vegetables, shows that humans were made for eating meat as well as vegetables. Harming or killing animals is irrelevant as to whether or not people live longer as a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian and is merely rhetoric. http://www.jewfaq.org/kashrut.htm There is a reason why herbivores are capable of eating only vegetables or whatever plant they find lying around: their body is capable of producing nutrients that their food lacks on its own. For example, a chicken's body can produce vitamin C, while ours can't; ours can produce cholesterol on its own, while other animals can't. And so while they can do without meat, it is not easy for us to be able to mimic their diets. The link you provided has an "s" at the end of it, while the context of the link doesn't. If you remove the "s", you will see the page you intended to be seen. Having said that, look at the following verse: Ezekiel 4:9. According to Food for Life, the ingredients, when merged, forms a high-concentrated protein. However, from the same source, milk and eggs have a higher concentration. Biblically speaking, this is for half a pound of bread made from those ingredients. And they have to eat this a few times a day if they plan on surviving. Whether or not you can find a different mixture with the same amount of nutrients is beyond me, but i can say that you'll be visiting the supermarket plenty of times a week to be constantly eating such an array of food. Unless forced to, a person will eventually grow tired of having the same thing over and over again. As mentioned previously, "sins" of killing animals are irrelevant to the discussion; though, this "sin" is only subjective. But if one were to be so caring, in order to be consistent, you would have to apply the same standard to plants. In other words, ripping off fruits or vegetables from plants would be itself a "sin." In order to avoid the "sin," therefore, you would have to wait for these things to fall off the plant itself.
  22. If clicking on "About Me" on your profile page (or anyone's profile page) does not display the relevant information, then it may be network related. The tabs in the profile page are mostly AJAX, which sends a request to the server and will only display the information if it receives a response. However, it is also possible that it is the browser's inability to properly load the JavaScript at the time. You can conclude what the problem is by testing it out in different browsers. If what you were saying does not concern the profile page and its tabs, then i have misunderstood.
  23. I can assure you that anwiii was not banned. It is very common for members to use false terminology (which is also a form of rhetoric in this case) for a simple posting disability, which this topic shows. Let's get things straight, "posting disability" does not equal "ban." anwiii is still able to use the PM system, the chat system, the report system, et cetera; in other words, he can post anywhere except the forums. A ban means he would not be able to do any of those things. This is why "posting disability" and "ban/suspend" are in two different categories within the warning system. Nevertheless, this information, i feel, will only be able to at least cease misuse of words within this topic, if at all any. I know anwiii's bluntness can be troublesome for him and it has gotten him in trouble in the past, but i'm sure even you can agree that someone can "stand up" to an admin without bringing in irrelevant statements to the discussion. Sure, i do not know of whatever conversations went on in personal messages with anwiii and BuffaloHelp, and for that reason i cannot properly respond to this issue without appearing like i am fully against anwiii, but the very fact that anwiii seems to have introduced a glimpse of their discussion into the public forums when personal messages are supposed to be personal (only concerns them two), appears to be one of the reasons, if not the only reason, why anwiii currently has a posting disability. If anwiii chooses to remain, then you'll see him posting again within these forums; however, i cannot gaurantee that a topic similar to this one won't be started by him. I've been on anwiii's bad side before in the past, so i know of, or have caught many glimpses of, how he would think of you or decide to treat you. Perhaps that is the reason why today anwiii's words do not have the same effect on me as they once did. He can very well indeed stur emotions within the other person if you are not careful. web_designer, you said you would not show anyone your respect if they do not show you respect. If you were in an admins position and assumed that standard, what would you have done? Certainly, not showing someone else respect does not involve displaying wisdom and patience. web_designer, does showing respect involve telling another person that they are self-rightous, that they like to be in a position that makes them feel high and mighty, and that they are spreading lies? Can any of these things be shown from the post anwiii responded to from BuffaloHelp in the topic -Sky- made? Do you think anwiii's point about moderators and forum balance can be made without these irrelevant things? You may respond that you still wouldn't have placed a posting disability on anwiii, but that is not a complete answer to "What would you have done with your assumed standard?" I do believe loyal members should get rewards, gifts, and what-have-you for their loyalty. However, even i realize that certain things can be left out within a discussion. This is not to say that loyalty implies keeping your mouth shut for everything that goes on in the forums. This is to say that you can bring up your concerns without ad hominem statements. I also realize that rhetoric may be required within a discussion, but this should be for fighting against other rhetoric and therefore shouldn't be started before any other rhetorical statement. Concerning rules, rules within a forum are dictated based on user conduct. For that reason a new rule may be introduced or an old rule may be dropped. There is no such thing as a rule that doesn't inconvenience or restrict someone. And a forum rule can only be enforced in so far as the forum system itself allows you to. BuffaloHelp has the option to limit signatures and therefore chose a limitation for all members. Sure, limiting the amount of links one can have in a signature will not enforce the TOS (which states no referrals allowed) for signatures (unless you disable links in signatures altogether), and, yeah, reporting members and using moderators is a more practical way of dealing with violation of the TOS within signatures, but the decision from BuffaloHelp to apply the current restriction was not random. You may not agree with it, but if one is to voice their opinions and thoughts about it, does one need to go further than what i agree with from anwiii's post?
  24. I would recommend a certain program to help with your start-up programs, which i use for my Windows system, called Startup Delayer. For some reason Windows (XP) can't handle all the programs starting up at the same time, so i have this useful, little program start the heavier programs at a later time to allow the smaller programs to go first.
  25. I've always used the quick reply and have never had a problem. Of course, i always use the simple editor. I only use the full editor when i want to preview my posts before posting. The rich text editor brings too many problems, both visually and within the code itself. As a moderator, editing posts that the rich text editor has messed up is not a fun task, especially when the user had copied content from from a site with different fonts and font sizes. What about those who are used to a rich text editor and are now to use the simple editor? Learning BB code is not a hard task, and even the simple text editor has those rich text editor buttons at the top. Trial and error will teach them how to use BB code if they choose not to look at the BB code help page. They have more freedom with their text formating with the simpler editor than with the rich text editor. I'd say bring back quick reply and disable the rich text editor. I have yet to lose a post; i have had the session time out on me due to how long it took me to write something out, but in the next page it would show me my entire post for me to copy and paste it back after refreshing the session. But if i ever lose a post in the same way as described in this topic, that can help me figure out the problem. If your browser has good session management, you can go back in history and see your post again. I know this works in Opera.
