  1. Also cleaning temporary files and fixing registry errors will also speed up the system. I recommend Ccleaner. Also for limited time PCTools is offering free genuine license of their desktop maestro software. To get your free license key follow the link below : http://www.pctools.com/product-eol/index/faq/utility/
  2. @Yordan, Thank you! for posting my article. I didn't actually mean to post it twice. I am surprised to see that I have posted it successfully. Because in mandriva when I posting that article I lost internet connection. So I thought it wasn't reached to you. That's why I posted twice. Sorry for that. I didn't copy it from any where. This my own article that I thought will help others too. The autoplay image I used was others. I used to give readers an idea on how virus uses autoplay option. If there are any mistakes I have done please tell me. I'll correct it next time when I post. Thank you! @Akashi Yes, autorun and autoplay are two different things. But worms and viruses use autoplay also. In the first image you can see the first "Open folder with" is due to an unknown publisher (malware) and the second "open folder with" option is of windows. In this way viruses use autoplay option. As spencer said we can create a blank autorun.inf. Addition to that we have to disable all access to the autorun.inf that we have created. This way no virus can modify the autorun.inf that we've created. For more information on how to do this please see the link below : https://answers.yahoo.com/ BTW, See the image below : You can see System right! I'm using xp pro 2002 sp3.
  3. Thanks! I'll start with mencoder.
  4. I'm afraid that I posted by misreading the article. Sorry, I am incorrect. I am correcting this post now. The article goes like this : "Backblaze is giving a free copy every day of June! To celebrate Backup Awareness Month, we'll award a 1-year license to Backblaze ($50 value) every day." So they will be giving away one year free license everyday. The winner will be chosen randomly.
  5. Backblaze offers online backup service for $50 per year. Backblaze is celebrating June, 2009 as backup awareness month and is giving away one year license free for everyone. So anybody can get that license for free. You can register at any time in this June. https://www.backblaze.com/landing/backup-awareness.html
  6. Virus can enter your PC in a number of ways, especially for computers with internet connection. But today computers without internet connection are also infected with virus. The majority of infections are due to wide use of portable devices such as Pendrives, MP3 players, iPod's etc. For example take a look at this picture : In the above image we see that virus is using a replica of windows explorer option to deceive the user. If the user clicks OK then he will be infected with that virus. In order minimize the impact of USB based viruses we have to disable the autoplay option. Follow these steps to disable autoplay option in XP : 1. Go to Start, then RUN the following command : gpedit.msc 2. In group policy editor select Administrative Templates under Computer Configuration tab. 3. Under Administrative Template select System. On right-side pane you will see option Turn off Autoplay, select it. 4. Right click on it and select Properties. This opens a window, select Enabled, then Apply and click OK. See image below for more assistance. That's it. From this you have to manually explore USB drive from My Computer. This gives you an option to scan pendrive with antivirus everytime you connect USB drive to PC. Thus you can eliminate virus before it invades your computer.
  7. Yes! sometimes. Few years back I used to get a newspaper in which there is certain column written by a psychiatrist. In that column the readers will tell their dreams and that psychiatrist will tell the meaning of that dream. Its interesting like a Sci-fi cinema.
  8. Can you please tell me the names of those CLI encoders. I interested in using Mandriva the linux way (Command line) but not windows way. Can you tell me what are the basic things I need to learn?
  9. I need a media converter for Mandriva. I am using KDE. I have shifted from Ubuntu. In Ubuntu I used to use Handbrake but I couldn't find RPM version. So just want you people to help me out in choosing best media converter for Mandriva.
  10. Alternatively you can remove startup items which are using too much memory manually. To remove unwanted startup processed, follow these steps : 1. Click Start and then RUN. Type msconfig and hit enter. 2. This opens System Configuration utility. Now select Startup tab. Now you can uncheck unwanted items such as yahoo messenger, adobe reader etc. Just check system processes and antivirus. You can also use a small application called Game Booster developed by Iobit.
  11. gnome is much easier than KDE. I suggest newbies to use gnome and after getting familiar with linux shift to KDE.
  12. To iGuest.I think you have to elaborate your problem. But I'll try to answer your question. If the videos are on mobile then transfer those videos to your computer. Convert them to mp4 format and upload them to your mobile. Now your video has to played by Real Player. Hope this helps.
  13. Real Alternative is very easy to use. No hassle, nothing. Just install it and windows media player plays rm, rmvb... I like Real alternative.
  14. I use Mozilla Firefox. Like Opera but it doesn't have as many features as Firefox. With Firefox I can browser my way. It's easy to customize.
  15. Great idea! Hosting for Posting. Diskspace & Bandwidth are more than enough for many people. Another idea that many expressed is referrals and so I. The other thing is this keep some more ads, I can barely see any ads here. The community here is just great as it was on Xisto. Keep up the good work.
  16. Use Ccleaner. It automatically removes cookies from firefox, internet explorer,Chrome etc in one click. By the its free. You can get it from /ccleaner
  17. Virus, trojans etc won't steal your information. They just destroy your system files and make you lose data. But Spyware can steal data from your computer. Official keyloggers are used for parenting purposes and are able to record what ever you do even your passwords etc. But they don't send that information to others over internet.Nice to hear from you that you are doing a fresh install. Backup important data on to pendrive before formatting. Here are my suggestions after doing fresh install of O.S :1. After installation update your system with microsoft update. This fixes several security loopholes in windows O.S.2. Use firewall like Comodo and antivirus Avira antivir. Both are free. Keep them up-to-date. 3. Keep your softwares up-to-date. Such as flash player, adobe reader, java etc.4. Protect your system with a strong password.5. Use website notification plugins such as WOT, Mcafee siteadvisor, AVG Link scanner. Use any one only.6. Last but not the least, never use Internet Explorer. Use Firefox or Opera. Because IE is the most targeted browser in the world. Many hackers try to exploit it for their evil purposes. I strongly don't recommend IE. Please do this if you are serious about protecting your privacy. After doing above steps, copy the your data back to your computer and make sure you scan the pendrive with antivirus before copying data back.
  18. Just for clarification, can I know how you can say that your site is affected by virus?
  19. Vuze is also good. It uses the same Azureus functions. It comes with lot of new stuff, but the torrent client is just as awesome as it was before. If you still want to remove Vuze then use the uninstall manager in vista. After that you can install Azureus 3. P.S : utorrent is also a very good client. A small torrent client but very reliable one. This can be another option for you.
