  1. The problem is I am not using old or slow hardware. And yes, It is a bug. It has been fixed in the new beta. I can only assume that my cache was in the 300mb or higher area. Ill explain what happens in the bug in simple.wikipedia.com terms.1. You visit a website. 2. It gets saved to the cache (about 500KB) 3. You continue browsing. 4. The cache just gets bigger. 5. Every-time you look for a website the computer searches the cache. 6. The bigger the cache the longer this takes 7. Until you can get coffee in the lagtime So when the cache is limited this does not happen.. It was a small mistake that was probably fixed in two minutes or so by the coders.
  2. I thought their already was a cure for aids. Although it is exteamly expensive, timeconsuming, and is unique to everyperson. I remember seeing an exibit about it at the Museum where I live a few years ago. It had something to do with y cells.
  3. On Mac OSX itunes + Quick TimeOn Linux MPlayerOn Windows WinAmp
  4. Im using a mac and it works great. Apple cant program worth anything on Windows though. Also the design was redone saddly. It used to have the gray coloring of itunes but then they made it copy the system theme.
  5. Here is how to do it. 1. Install latest itunes 2. Open iTunes 3. Drag the file into the movies section of itunes. 4. Right click the video in itunes and click on convert for ipod. 5. Hook up your ipod. 6. If it is set up to sync music across. Click on the ipod that shows up on the itunes sidebar. 7. Go to the tab movies and select the movies you want to sync.
  6. Well, although I dont think these devices are going to happen... This is how it could work. It could get power from usb, hook up to a computers usb port, and the xbox's ethernet and usb ports. Then it could idenitfy each other from a randomized code sent through ssl.
  7. I think you have the wrong link. This goes to a video of a person who is vertically handicapped.
  8. Ok, So I have to comment. The best Laptop brands are Lenovo, Apple, and Asus. I believe apple and asus use the same factories, correct me if im wrong. All three of these companies make very good laptops. But, be careful when buying from asus because they also make cheap models with you guessed it, lower quality. Also for quality and longevity of laptops I would look for these things. -Whether it features an accelerometer, sudden motion sensor or auto locking hard drive feature. This prevents damage to the hard drive when dropped or traveling. -Screen Resolutions. Screen Size doesn't matter, its the resolution. -Find out what mother board or logic board it uses and google whether it has issues. -Stray away from amd processors. -Look for more than 3 hours of listed battery life. The life will only get worse. -Try to use the product in real life, Does it feel durable. -In a laptop these techs are more durable Oled>led backlit>backlit (fluorescent), sshd > HDD, Slot Load is better than non slot load in durability. But, DO NOT BUY FROM HP OR COMPAQ They are actually the same company. Ill shorten my horrid experience with them. First I bought a compaq laptop. It was AMD based and at the time AMD processors ran extremely hot, it had a defective fan and ended up catching on fire. After 4 months of work on getting a replacement I decided to contact the Better Business Burro. And later received my money back for the laptop. Then I decided to spend more money ($2000) and buy an HP, I thought that more $ = more quality and faster, I also bought the three year accidental protection plan, HP's top warranty plan, with one of its features, a 7 business day replacement. Later I got a virus and the install disks they gave me were corrupt and could not reinstall the OS (the disks were scratch-less btw). So, I had to send in the laptop. 10 business days later I received a laptop back from repair. It was the same brand except, it was the minimum configuration model which would have costed $800. It featured a slower processor, lower wireless capabilities, less ram, a smaller hard drive, integrated instead of dedicated graphics etc. Then it took 1 month of calls, an email to the better business burro, and faxing in my receipt to get them to admit their mistake. So they sent me a box I then proceeded to shipping my laptop into repair. It got delayed because hp had to "order parts to complete the repair". A month and a half later I received the laptop back. The laptop I received had no screws in it and a broken hinge. So, when I opened it, it fell apart and parts of the casing cracked. So I called back HP the representative stated some thing a long the lines of abuse. And then I pointed out my warranty. She said I would have to talk to a case manager who would call me. I waited 2 months, nothing. So I sent another letter to the better business burro. And a week later I got a call from a case manager. An apology and a box to send the laptop back in for repair. After 4 months of waiting, I bought a macbook. I have been using the macbook without problems since June. Last month I recieved an over sized package from HP. After I went through all the packaging peanuts I found my old hard drive physically broken. Edit: Here's what I have found out about Apple. They only sell high end machines. Any competitor, even the cheap ones when brought up to spec with what apple offers are within $200 or more expensive.
  9. I like mplayer totem. It has support for all the files I use and it looks better than vlc.
  10. Why would you want to do this? Cookies are used so websites can identify you so you dont have to enter your password every time or email address, or user name... If you want the cookies deleted automatically you can put the browser into private mode.
  11. This is called voice recognition software. Windows Vista includes a very good implementation built in for free. Use this guide to learn how to use it. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ If you are running Mac OSX this guide http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ And if you are using Linux their is no open source or free implementation
  12. I did not know any motherboard could support 64 gbs or ram right now. I know a few server mobo's can support 32 gbs.
  13. You Use the program login studio, here is the website http://www.stardock.com/products/logonstudio/ you download skins for it here http://wincustomize.com/explore/logonstudio_xp
  14. It now uses hfs+ which the difference would be like fat32 to NTFS, or ext2 to ext3. Boot-camp is basically a bootloader with bios emulation. Its to boot windows on a mac. Now, I would not suggest switching to Mac OSX unless any of the following is true. -Your a Designer -Want to try something new -Want to learn something new -Or windows is making you angry.
  15. I hate IE because. Its slow. Its nonstandard complientIts insecure. Its not as customizeable.Has no unique features to itMakes me have to make tweaks to my site for every version.
  16. Its also good to point out that compiling from source will get you a binary that is more tuned to your configuration.
  17. Let me start.Mac OSX is an operating system made by apple for Apple computers. It has NeXTstep as its base. NeXTstep is based on free bsd. However Mac OSX follows a modular design so it is not completely open source, only the kernel and various utilities. Their open source repository is located at this address https://developer.apple.com/opensource/index.html . The kernel and the various utilities make up the OS Darwin which will run on any computer. However Mac OSX only runs on Macs. Mac OSX Follows a layered design. Here is a picture. You can read more about that at this address http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ . Their is also a hardware extraction layer in between the Media layer and darwin. This is mostly for communication with the hardware and firmware of the various parts of apple computers. It is considered a very powerful consumer os because of its darwin base which makes it more powerfull and secure then windows. All Unix Operating systems follow a model of mild sandboxing and Strict permissions. Read about Sandboxing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandbox_(computer_security) Read about Permissions http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Their is no way that you can get an evaluation copy legally and if you bought it, it would only run on an Apple Mac. You can buy them at http://www.apple.com/ . .Net does not work on Mac OSX or Linux. .Net is a proprietary programming language only used for windows. Needless to say most apps are not written in .Net. However you may be thinking of XCode, the Software Development Kit that comes with every mac (on the 2nd restore CD). It can make windows and linux apps with a plugin. Also autocad does not run on a mac however its competitors do. However I am not an architect so can not compare them. (dev speak) Apps that are ported from other OS's generally run slower on Mac OSX than native apps. Ill explain that in a little bit. So, Macintosh Native Apps or Cocoa apps are usually written in Objective-C which is basically C++ with object oriented programing using cocoa frameworks. Apps ported are called Carbon Apps, they are usually based on C++ and dont use the cocoa frameworks. Carbon apps will run in either X11 (for linux ported apps) or in aqua the default Mac OSX windows manager (Windows ported apps, Mac OS Classic Ported Apps). Carbon apps will not run faster or more efficient than their other os counter parts on similar hardware. 3d intensive Carbon apps will even run worse. However if they are rewritten for Cocoa they will run faster and be more elegant for the user. The reason being that Cocoa apps are 64 bit compatible, have much more api's, and support Quartz. An example of this on the windows side would be Directx, however this is only used for composition. Quartz makes it easier for the developer and more efficient for the end user. you can read about this in this link... https://developer.apple.com/macos/ . However this resource is a little out of date and does not feature core animation which you can read a little about here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Core_Animation . I could go into much more explicit detail but it would take many pages. If you are still curious about what runs mac osx, I would suggest registering for a free dev account (or use an itunes id) from apple and read that resource. hope this is helpful.
  18. No you can not use shell scripting in html page. Shell script serves a different purpose than javascript and VBScript. Shell script is used to run a series of commands in a UNIX shell. Or in windows a command prompt (The commands are different so I dont really call this shell scripting). Shell Scripting is to make rudimentary or repetitive tasks faster and more automated. It is often used for install scripts, or maintenance scripts.
  19. I did not know that you could run kde on windows. Its been a about 5 years since I have even wanted to do something like that and the answer was that the dwm was too intwined into the os. But, after looking into it further that is kde running on windows xp. Nevertheless, it does show the default kde desktop whether it is on windows or linux it will pretty much look the same.
  20. I said optimized for apple hardware. You really think that Mac OSX would work better than windows if it was forced to run on all hardware configurations. I also stated that on the powerpc (g3, g4, g5) architecture it used open firmware, or on AMD64 (every intel processor higher than core duo) efi. Also if you were to look into google, efi is an open standard.http://www.uefi.org/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Firmware_Interface I would make sure you have your facts right before trolling.
  21. They are different window managers. KDE looks more like vista or windows seven. Uses a modified version of compiz fusion. I personally dont like KDE because the setting and positioning seems archaic to me. However KDE has desktop wide search by default which is good. Gnome generally has a plainer theme by default with two panels which is a design unique to linux. Although gnome looks rather plain if you get more expeirence with linux you will learn how to dress it up immensely. Also gnome uses the full version of Compiz Fusion and Emerald (howerver some distros will make it slightly more complicated to install emerald). Also I like the added flexibility of gnome. Default kde desktop Default gnome desktop Ps. the picture of kde has some apps running in wine...
  22. Id say ubuntu is better. Their both pretty similar, so here is the pros that the general user will notice... Fedora -Better Gui Ubuntu -Better Package Manager -Restrictive Drivers -Easier...
  23. When you want to get a new computer I would suggest buying refurbished. You can get the current models from apple for 15-20% off and they usually look new. http://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac
  24. Ok then let me make some suggestions about what most likely is taking up space. Movies, each movie is about 1 gb Music, each music file is about 4mbs for lossy or 30mb lossless, but they add up fast Virtual Machines, each virtual machine uses from 4-20gbs. Pictures, each picture is only a couple of mbs but if you have thousands of them they add up. Some applications are fairly large. Make sure you empty your trash. Other than that I suggest you buy a new hard drive. They are very cheap... You can get a 1tb (1000gb) hard drive for less than $100. If you want to go this way tell me what version of imac you have and Ill help you find a hard drive. To find what version of the imac you have click on the apple symbol, then about this mac, then more info, and it should be under "Model Identifier". Mine for my macbook is "Macbook 4,1"
  25. Arch Linux is the best. If you can get through the complicated setup process.Pacman is much faster than aptitude (apt-get) and compiles the source based on your computer and os options, instead of a generic binary. Also Arch Linux will end up being the Fastest and Stablest distro on x86, AMD64 computers. Lastly Arch Linux follows a rolling release cycle so you are always running the newest system.
