  1. I disdain flash, thus I use firefox and flash blocker. On a professionally developed site (having an actual graphic artist as well as promammer) that is expected to be flashy I can understand ts use. Mostly though it reminds me of the old blink tag.Of course hter biggest issue is that a web page should be designed to draw people in not turn them away.
  2. Last I checked the DoD protocol is supposed to be to write zeros to every iota, including the boot sector, of the HD in question. That would certainly be sufficient to clean any data irretrievably.
  3. Dreamweaver, like many high end packages, is a very deep program. Thus you can get the basics and and be up and running in no time. Conversely to take full advantage of it's myriad of professional features can take a bit more time. The help feature in the program is written rather well.
  4. Do have the web site in question hosted with GoDaddy.com? The domain is currently parked there as a courtesy parking indicating that the domain is not yet parked with a host or the URL has yet to propagate.
  5. I always find it humorous when people think that the internet is any less secure than the way credit card transactions have taken place in the past. My parents are like that. I pointed out to them that they never fused about the old system where the card was placed under carbon paper and an imprint of the card was made. So the retailer had the name the number and the expiration date. Then there are restaurants wherein you physically hand your card to someone who walks away with it. Lastly, of course, the mail order catalogs my mother frequently shops from by calling someone you have never met giving them your name, billing address and all the information from the card. Of course half the problem is the news and other media. Anytime there is a security problem it's pasted all over the news with no mention of the literal billions of transactions that take place problem free. Add to this the countless bad movies and TV programs written by computer illiterates for the computer illiterate wherein anything digital is portrayed as dangerous and you have an atmosphere of mistrust.
  6. Manchester United my self. I mainly decided to chose a team to try and follow which is not as easy in the U.S. Given that united are owned my the Glazers who also own the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, my "home" team, I decided the Man U would be closest thing to a home team.
  7. Dilbert.com is complete crap since the site was re-done recently. But, I still go there tp read the comic. Someone had stated that yelow on black is a terrible color combination. I agree on screen though in print it is one the most effective color schemes.
  8. Ironically your teacher got one the basest facts 100% wrong. Our universe has 4 dimensions As a Christian I most certainly believe in heaven and hell.
  9. I am not so sure Dodging the bullet is therm I would have used given the way thier shares slipped afterwards. Personally if I were a shareholder I would want then to sell to MS.

    Love Script

Sorry, but this does not work. I can say that with certainty with out ever seeing the script. The first three digits of a social security number indicate the zip code of the requester post 1973 or the state of issue before that. This information is readily availible from the Social Security Administration.
  11. I know this thread is a bit older but given my previous response does not seem to have been clear enough I thought that I would clarify. Firstly RDBMS = Relational Database Management System - Such as MySQL Oracle SQL Server and so on. the RDBMS should not be confused with the term database as a database is your personal collection of data whereas the RDBMS is the underlying program that supports the data and allows you to manipulate the data. Thus calling MySQL a database is like calling MS word an office document. In every database there are system tables as well the normal data tables. The system tables are placed in the database by the RDBMS. These system tables store information such as the names of the databases tables, the names and data types of the fields in tables and so on. These system tables also store what auto increment numbers have been used. These system tables are very important and should not be played with. This statement seems fairly self explanatory. I can think of no reason whatsoever why an auto increment field would need to be sequential. For the Primary Key of a table there is no reason at all. Primary keys need always to be unique. A primary key should never ever be reused. Just for example what happens if you need to restore a table where you have reused the primary key but, the backup has the original owner of that PK. Your data in that table and the ones related to it are not going to congruent. Lastly all because you may not have a record in your database any more does not mean that the RDBMS does not know it was there. In the database logs there will be activity records for the primary keys of what has been done to record when and by whom. Perhaps this more lengthy explanation clarifies my previous post or maybe it has obfuscated it.
  12. At the risk of echoing what has already been stated do not over clock if you do not know what you are doing. Your biggest system slow down from the specifications listed is the memory by far. That and the use of Vista which is another matter entirely. Basically when you over clock a CPU you are making more electricity run through the processor than it normally does. The result can be that the CPU runs at a higher frequency (speed). However, the CPU may or may not be able to handle the higher operating frequency and could be damaged as a result. Additionally the the CPU will also generate more heat than it does under normal circumstances. If the heat sink and fan are not up to the task of dispersing the heat and the case does not vent the heat out properly the CPU will be damaged. If you decide to give it a try be certain to read up on what you need todo and make sure your cooling is sufficient. At least over clocking is easier than it used to be. Older PC's had jumpers that had to be set on the motherboard to determine voltage and the like.
  13. Firstly, take a look at some active message boards. Chances are they are all going to have something in common. That thing in common is that those who belong to message board have something in common to discuss in the first place. In example a previous free web host I used had a post for host system in which the hosting was a straight post count per month system. The host had the board set up with an area for nearly every possible interest. There were too many actually. the result was that there was little conversation and very little, aside from the wanting hosting, in common amongst the user base. Now, to look at some other message boards they typically all have a common thread. Even moderately successful web comics tend to have decently active boards (if they have them). Because all the members have something in common in that they read the same comic. Additionally if the comic updates fairly regularly then consistently something new for the users to comment to comment upon. Thusly it seems that a commonality among users and new material on the main site seems to drive and maintain most the message boards I am familiar with.
  14. Swish is a program that allows animations to be saved as FLV (Flash) files. The newer version is over $100 so not a big savings. However they revious versions were shareware if memory serves. You can look at oldversion.com for the later. AdditionallyI quick search located this site with free flash authoring tools. I hope one of these locations has what you are looking for.
  15. Thanks Jeigh, that is exactly the information I was looking for. I looked through the FAQ and did not see that information.
  16. Does activating your account reset your points to a certain level or are whats labeled as points before one is hosted count less after hosting? I ask because before I activated my hosting I had 70 credits listed. I went straight to plan 2 which I understand is 30 credits. Thus it seems that I would have 40 credits left. I do not know how credits equate to days of hosting however, it seems that 40 credits would equate to more than 2 days. If I wrong that is fine or the credits are lost or whatever is not really a big concern. I more curious than anything else.
  17. Given the expense of replaqcing the router you may also be able to purchase better antenae for the existing router or possibly place a signal booster on the second floor of your residence.
  18. Google does typically have some elaborate April fools pages. Last year I was on a board where a couple people thought the Google toilet internet was real. That is funny though.
  19. I am sorry to possibly derail but I can think of nothing that Gimp does that Photoshop does not. Whereas I can list many things the other way around. On point, The Gimp will most likely meet your needs. there are programs in between as well; Ones that are not free but are not hyper expensive either. Photoshop Elements comes to mind as does Corel's Paint Shop Pro, both run under 100 dollars U.S. Lastly may times scanners or printers will ship with image editing software that you may find to be perfectly serviceable.
  20. I think this is one of those samples of old jokes or false stories finding new life on the internet. When I was in high school in the eighties our science teacher tried to pull this one on us. I think poeple hear the monoxide part and associate it with carbon monoxide. Really careful reading simply shows that di-(two) hydrogen and mon(one)oxide(oxygen) is abviosly H^2O.
  21. I won't completely discount any possibility until a grand unified theory is discovered. If you want to read something very interesting take a look at this lecture from Dr. Stephen Hawking.
  22. Call 1-800-MICROSOFT / 1-800-642-7676. They may not be able to replace disks any more. I once was able to get a replacement for a 98 disk. Obviously that was some time ago. If you have any friends that have the disk you could that as well of course. Really whay disk you use is inconsequential so long as you have the software license. Another option is to use another XP PC to make a start up floppy. Check out this article from MS support. If it not exactly what you need dig around support.microsoft.com for a while. I am not he biggest MS supporter there is but I will give credit where it is due and say that their support site is a fabulous resource.
  23. I am sorry but I seem to be a bit confused as to why this is a bad thing. Is it bad thing that MS may provide a tool that helps law enforcement agencies to convict sexual predators, drug traffickers, child pornographers, internet thieves or a myriad of other criminals? Why is there someone to blame? Maybe blame criminals. Your post makes it seems as if MS is doing a bad thing by assisting law enforcement officials or that law enforcement shouldn't collect evidence of crimes. What privacy concern? If there is an officer (at least in the US) be it federal or otherwise at your PC it is because they have a search warrant gained via submitting probable cause. I know several officers who investigate computer crimes. You will have to take my word for it that they do not care if someone is surfing pornography or what have you. They are concerned about things like people soliciting sex from minors, e-mailing bomb and/or death threats to their school, and there are other examples I can think of. One of the great things mentioned in the article is that the help from MS helps reduce the time it takes to collect electronic evidence. This only saves the tax payers money. Additionally, the program from MS is aimed to help locations both nationally and internationally that are less likely to have staff available to gather electronic evidence from PCs. Personally, I applaud Ms for this one.
  24. Using the recovery option on the Windows CD is your best option. Your actual OS disk may be part of hte restore disks supplied with your PC. This is dependent upon the manufacturer. Otherwise you may be able to contact your PC's manufacturer or Microsoft about acquiring a replacement CD. This assumes, of course, that your copy of Windows is genuine.
  25. I came across a program called Synfig poking around a bit. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It seems to have versions for most operating systems. It is in development still however. For OS X and Linux there is Pencil. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Perhaps one of those will be what you are looking for.
