School for me was always 8AM to 2PM, but then with like sports and stuff, the day didn't really end until 5 usually. Now that I think about it, that was actually a lot of time for relatively little learning.. or maybe I'm just thinking that because high school really underutilized the lecture format and seemed to embrace discussion instead, which... doesn't do a whole lot for most of the class, it just lets some people blab on for 5 minutes about nothing while everyone else sits around and gets bored. College is a bit more efficient, I've got about 12 hours of lecture a week, and another 10-15 hours in labs. Most of it is in the mornings, so I don't have class in the afternoons, which is awesome 'cause it lets me do other things.

What Is A Transgender? all about transgenders.
HDuffRules replied to braitt's topic in General Discussion
You can't change this type of "thinking". All humans in the womb grow through the early stages of development as female. At a certain point in development, a protein cascade activates the Y chromosome, allowing for the expression of the genes that are responsible for male characteristics, which in turn turn off and suppress their female counterparts. If the morphogen cascade fails at some point, it may only affect the ectoderm, causing the brain and nervous system to differentiate into a different gender than the rest of the body. Male and female brains are not identical, and have many dissimilarities. These physical differences cannot be reconciled by "changing the humans thinking" any more than if you tried to grow a sixth finger on your left hand by thinking it. -
Actually yeah this is spot on. My job doesn't require me to be productive all the time, but one of my friends is interning at a consulting firm and he has both an iPhone and a Blackberry, because the Blackberry is better suited for getting stuff done and the iPhone is generally just for goofing off.

Getting 4 Wisdom Teeth Removed Tomorrow =/
HDuffRules replied to gisellebebegirl's topic in Health & Fitness
I had this done, all 4 at the same time too, 'cause I only go to the dentist every year and a half or so, or whenever I remember, and the dentist was all like "oh... you need to get these taken out...now." Went in the next day, numbed me right up, felt almost nothing, although the needle was scary . My experience felt kind of similar to getting a filling (except something comes out instead of going in). Basically ate nothing but yogurt for the next week, but everything is better now. So you're actually probs getting this done right now, so this post is probs totally useless, but let us know how it goes! -
Sure its specs are better... but will the interface think for you? The ease of use and stability of the iPhone is unparalleled. And as far as I know, you can't use the N97 to have lightsaber fights.

Why Do I Keep Seeing The Same Person In My Dreams?
HDuffRules replied to Mermaid711's topic in General Discussion
Dreams are creepy. I tend to ignore them ever since I figured out it is possible to manipulate them with your state of mind just before falling asleep. I'm not sure if this still works, because I tend not to dream much anymore now that I'm sleeping about 4 hours a day... Ordinary dreams usually mean little, but recurring dreams could indicate some sort of mental or emotional discomfort. -
Wait for version 4.0. It will be faster, they promises. I noticed a distinct change when switching to the beta... and then I skinned it and it all went away ;(

Material Possesions ! Will It Give Happiness ?
HDuffRules replied to longtimeago's topic in General Discussion
I saw the topic of this thread and saw a question. I came here to answer it, but it appears that you already have an answer. Unfortunately, I happen to disagree with you. I draw a distinction between happiness and spiritual fulfillment. This is because there have been cases where I feel good about myself but I am not necessarily happy, and vice versa. -
Magnetic Levitation Earthquake Dampener
HDuffRules replied to Diffusr's topic in Science and Technology
The main problems with using heat from down in the Earth is that in a lot of places, it is difficult to reach, it is not extremely reliable, and it is potentially dangerous. With that being said, extracting heat from the core is also a bad idea. The magnetic field that surrounds the earth is generated by the movement of our molten core. It has already been demonstrated that the core of the planet is cooling down. Do we really want to accelerate that by drawing energy from it? The molten core powers our magnetic field. This field protects us from cosmic rays and other radiation that comes from outer space. Mars has no magnetic field because its core cooled down and is now solid. Oh and nothing lives there. Maintaining a molten core is rather important, and given that at the current rate of cooling, our core will die before the sun leaves its current nice yellow stage, its a possibility that messing around with the core is a bad idea. Although, looking at it a different way, when the core solidifies completely, the mantle will no longer be molten and we won't have earthquakes anymore, since everything will just be stuck in place and the tectonic plates will no longer be floating. -
I believe I correctly understood and answered this question explicitly. In regards to the other question about domain name expiration, Solution 1 will solve your problem. After x.com expires, simply delete the folder public_html/x. Solutions 2 and 3 is temporary for while both domains are still active. The whole idea is that as long as both of the DNS point to the same hosting, there is no "main" domain. They are both active at the same time. When one of them goes kaput, nothing happens to the other one, it keeps working. Edit: I haz 1337 spelling skillz.

Yes, but this is how you direct your own URL for free
-
So lets say you have two domains... https://www.ebayinc.com/ and http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, and both of their DNS points to your Xisto hosting. If x.com was your first domain, the files for it are in public_html. When you add y.com, the files for that are in public_html/y. To solve your problem, and you are switching over from x.com to y.com, there are a few options. 1. rename public_html/y to public_html/x. Add a redirect page into public_html/x so that everyone who visits x.com is now redirected to y.com. or2. move all the files from public_html to public_html/y. Add a redirect page into public_html so that everyone who vists x.com is now redirected to y.com. or 3. You can simply "park" y.com on top of x.com, and both domains will point to the same content.Edit: I haz spelz gud.

Certain colleges and universities have started adding machines with Ubuntu in their computer labs next to Windows XP and OSX, simply because there is now enough open-source software to make the systems viable for mainstream everyday use. Applications for specialized purposes that will run on Linux is probably the next logical step.

Hm... much better, thank you

This rather unfortunately doesn't tell me a whole lot about how the game is played, or why it's so great. There is no background, no storyline, no links to screenshots. The one link that was provided leads to a rather fail info page, which told me absolutely nothing. This does not merit five stars and a smiley face.

I got hosted here right as the system was switching over to credit v3. Now I can't be in the cool kids club . Meh... oh well.

hey, thanks for adding the QUOTE tags on that post I made.. I couldn't figure out how to do it, I tried using CODE tags but that just made a little box and wouldn't display the whole picture at once

Is Wikipedia Better Than Microsoft Encarta?
HDuffRules replied to fermin25's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I've come across a topic like this on a different forum before, and it basically ended up with people arguing. One side contended that the information is accurate and reliable, while the other disagreed, because "anyone can change it." And then one of these guys decided to prove his point by going on to Wikipedia and changing a page to wrong information. By the time he had posted the link on the forum for us to see his "edits," someone had already changed it back. I guess what I'm trying to say is, sure there are probably some people who go on Wikipedia and mess with it, but there is a dedicated group of responsible users who will correct it. As for people posting wrong information simply because they don't know its wrong, well if they believe something that is false, it shows that they don't really know too much about that subject. So why would you be editing a Wikipedia article that you are not an expert in? This phenomenon simply doesn't occur. -
My standard response to these guys is to sign up their e-mail for lots of spam and looking for online offers that don't require a credit card and using their e-mail address. It's great fun.
