  1. I recommend you to download and install WAMP server. I think, for a beginner WAMP is more easier to use than other php applications. Just download and install WAMP server. Run it and put your php files in www folder of your installation directory. Then just point your browser to LOCALHOST/yourfilename.php to run your php file. Once you start this, you'll understand other things soon.. If you have any other doubts we are here to guide you..

Download wamp server here.. WAMP SERVER

  2. Yes mahesh, kontera is not calculating earnings beyond 6 months. I had also lost around $21. I didn't know that either. When trying to find this in their knowledgebase I read somewhere that the data will be available for only last 6 months.. I found the following data in their knowledgebase.

I'm only seeing my last 6 months worth of data and earnings

The results of a comprehensive survey held within our network, indicated that the vast majority of our publishers had minimal interest in daily reports dating back over 180 days. Rest assured that no data has been lost, and that all of your account information, since joining Kontera's network, is saved on our end.

The total balance of my account since my last payment/since I joined Kontera

Please use the Contact Us form to send an email to our accounting department that will provide you with this information. To expedite response be sure to select "Payment Issue" from the drop down menu to specify your request.

Anyway I will also submit a ticket about this issue, and will report those details here...

  3. Yes, I was also given a promotional offer of Rs. 2500 voucher for adwords... I redeemed it too.. but the problem is, we have to activate my account with at least Rs. 500 through credit card or through prepay netbanking. Once we activate it we could use that Rs. 2500 to promote our website.. My account is still in suspended state with a balance of Rs 2500. I haven't activated it yet...

  4. Why not. I'm eagerly waiting for number portability facility in India... I have two mobiles withe me and using Airtel number for 7 years, thats my primary number.. I changed my second number many times... mostly between Vodafone, BSNL and Idea. I dropped them due to their poor signal coverage in our area.. and recently switched to Tata Indicom as they introduced pay per call offer. Its really very nice service both in signal strength and pricing. So I would like to change my primary number to this service if number portability introduced. Changing to a new provider is very very cheap in our area... due to the heavy competition between operators they are selling SIM cards with life time validity for just Rs.2 to Rs.10. That is less than the cost of a normal chocolate. Almost all my friends have at least 4 numbers from different operators.. just using them like disposable numbers... :)

  5. As baniboy suggested, add your new domain as Addon Domain in your CPanel ( Addon Domains option is in domains section). After adding your domain as an Addon Domain, a folder with your domain name will be available in your public_html folder. Put your website there. It works just like new website with a different hosting account (but shares everything with other domain, like bandwidth, space etc...).

  6. It turns out that Photoshop does NOT support .ico files, but I have read somewhere that there are tools out that that is able to covert you picture for you, and I tried it and it worked. Okay, so here are the steps....

Yes, Photoshop by default, doesn't support .ico files. But you can use the ICOFormat plugin to create .ico files in Photoshop. Its a free plugin and just 27kb in size.

Download it from here Download ICO format plugin for photoshop . then extract and copy the ICOFormat.8bi file to File Formats folder in Photoshop Plug-ins directory. Now you can create and save .ico files in photoshop.

  7. If I'm not wrong, Javascript is fairly easier to use - you could call it a "diet" programming language! But it's got nothing to do with Java at all...

Yes you are right, javascript is very easy to learn and use. But its functionality is very limited. Its not a stand alone programming language. It only works in a browser.
But anyway its programming experience will help you a lot when learning other programming languages.

  8. As rvalkass told, only the names have some similarity.. and its due to some marketing reasons. Apart from that they don't have any connection. Java is a fully fledged programming language. Java is widely used for desktop and server side web applications. In contrast javascript is just scripting language which will work on client side web browsers.. It was designed to enhance the user interface of a website..

  9. Let's say, you have a web-site, you created and build a long-time ago. And now, you want to add extra fields to the registration page, not manually, from admin center. Let's say, your registration page looks very simple which include only Name, email, and country. But, I would like to add extra fields, like Skype or ICQ fields from my admin center. Moreover, if a new user registeres, he had to enter those new fields, so how can I accomplish this?

I didn't understand what do you mean by "not manually". It is fairly simple if you want to add manually. You need to edit the following. Only adding the fields is easy, if you want to change the entire website to handle these new entries, then you should edit your entire website.

    1. Add your new fields to the particular table in your database server.

    2. Next edit your html page and add the new fields. I hope you know how to add form elements to your page.

    3. Edit Server side page that handles this registration page. Add new coding to handle these new elements. (handling means, processing the code and passing it to your database server etc..)

If you want to do all this by just clicking buttons (I think, this is what you meant by not manually) go for a CMS. Or you should build your website in such a way that you could create new fields by just clicking buttons, But I think building a website like this is just like building a new CMS. :)

Anyway, if this is not what you wanted, please post your question clearly...

  10. Now i'm confused. If we buy domain via Xisto - Domains with extension .in,.de or .jp then in that case isn't the content in regional language allowed ? I mean they can verify the content no doubt. But i'm unsure about this now cause as far i know xisto team verify content from india quickly. I'm not sure about other regional content. I think we need Xisto - Support input here.

Yes, you are right mahesh. People will buy these regional domains only to promote and host their local content. That rule of having the English version of the website will be meaningless for these local domains. :) Administrator or some support staff should clarify this doubt.

  11. So the conclusion is if the file hosted are fine (no copyright infringement) and legal to share, i can upload them right?

That's right. As far as the content is your own, or you have legal rights to redistribute that content, there will be no problem.

And About the language: my site's content (for now) will mostly just the music titles. So the only thing that need to be translated are welcoming page and the recent update news. Rather than using google translation that can falsely translate my site, i think I'll try to create the english version instead :)

Submit a support ticket at Xisto - Support about the language issue, they'll help you..

  12. First tell us your budget.. and we'll recommend you some... currently I've compaq laptop, its working nicely... and their customer support is ok. My ac adapter got damaged and they changed it for free(still in warranty period) without asking irritating questions. So I think their service is good in our country. Dell is also a nice choice for us... their inspiron series is in economical range, around 35k. First tell your budget..

  13. Hmm... thanks for the information.... I can now edit my links now... but I have a problem. Say that I will be creating blog posts like, every two days when I start, am I meant to write that in the URL path settings every time, or should I follow rvalkass's advice and do what he suggests?

You're welcome buddy... You have to write url path settings only if you create a new page.. If you create a new page or story every two days then you need to write the url path settings for that page. If you update old pages no need to write that.

I haven't tried that Pathauto module. If you want to generate url names automatically, then try that module. That's very helpful. I will try it and will tell you...

Also, if I am to write the name of the URL into the URL path settings, do you think I should leave a space in between the words or just put them together? I know that Xisto has a hyphen in between the links though... which one do you think would be best for SEO?

You can use space between words.. For example, you can use "help page" as your url alias....but don't mix words... thats bad for seo...

  14. Drupal support clean url's. You can assign whatever name you wanted for a page. After creating a page or story just enter your desired name for that page at URL path settings which is located at the bottom of the page.

For example enter "contacts" for your contacts page. There after the page will show http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ instead of http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or something.
If you have already created some pages, just edit the page to rename your urls to something you prefer....
You can also rename your urls through URL aliases located at Administer -> Site Building -> URL aliases. Go there and edit url you want to rename.

If URL path settings option is not appearing when creating or editing content , then go to Modules section and enable Path module..

  15. Apart from many other reasons like open source, security etc... the main reason for FireFox's success is advertising. FireFox developers are doing a great job in promoting their product. When they have a next major release most websites are displaying FireFox's banner. They made FireFox very very popular, most non technical people are believing that FireFox is the only alternative to IE. Opera team is not trying to promote their browser in this way...And the next major thing is its extensions. I am using FireFox only because of these extensions... opera lost here too...FireFox's development is very fast.. when they found a bug, they immediately release a fix. But Opera team is taking long time to release its updates... Still Opera is my favourite because of its speed in displaying a page, and many other inbuilt features...but I need some extensions of FF, so I'm using FireFox as main browser now...just like you...

  16. That is very very difficult. Sitting and watching movies won't give them the necessary skills to direct a movie. Directing a movie is a very different and complex task. But watching movies will give them a better idea of what is good and what is bad. They know what to do, but don't know how to do. Right? So, some training is must. Directors have to deal with lot of artists, getting best out of them.. etc.. etc.... lots of pressure which makes direction very difficult.

If that's not correct most of the movie critics and reviewers can make wonders in film industry. :P

It is just like watching a cricket or football match. Even though you watch all the matches everyday, it won't make you a better player. You need to play and practice constantly. Watching the matches will teach you some techniques, and some mistakes. So training and trying is important.

So, in my opinion, watching the movies will give them just an idea. Only people who have some basic idea about movie direction and have deep interest in their hearts to direct a movie will have some advantage. Anyway, this is just my opinion. :P

  17. Really a shocking news for all, isn't it? I didn't even think of it. I read it in the news paper this morning and really shocked. I still can't figure out why he was given this award. I agree he is a good person, but I don't think he deserves Nobel Peace Prize this much early... Because he has done nothing yet to bring peace to world. There are many other people who deserves this award. May be Nobel committee is changing its standards. :P

  18. I have been facing the same problem after Xisto was upgraded to the latest version of IPB. I had already complained this to OpaQue a few months back and came up with no solution. So, I got used to that crappy "Sorry You Don't Have Permission" error... I'm still getting that error.. My connection is a broadband connection with a dynamic ip. Though dynamic ip sometimes create problems with Xisto login, thats not the main reason for this problem. Becuase my ip won't change until my ADSL modem rebooted. But while browsing the forum it suddenly logs me out and pops up that error.. So I'm sure that dynamic ip is not the only problem. Tried many things to solve this problem and finally resigned... :P

  19. At present transfering myCents is not possilble at Xisto. Many people have already suggested this idea but OpaQue is not interested in that, may be there are many problems associated with the transfer of myCents. Transferring myCents is a good idea but it will create lots of problems. MyCents are associated with real money (because we are using them to buy products at xisto). So it is just like transferring real money.. which should be done very carefully and in a secure way. And there are many chances for misuse of that service...Transferring myCents is just like bank real transactions which are somewhat complicated. So developing a code for it is very tough and time taking and involves hard effort.. And the team at xisto should develop a proper code without bugs. Any chance of bug will result into big damage to their company. I think thats the reason why OpaQue is ignoring that idea...Lets see how administrators will respond....
