  1. I believe he/she meant to say, "...for scary web site called ghosts..." And when you put 'scary' and 'ghosts' in one sentence (although the whole sentence is a run-on), I assume that it is the supernatural being, the ill-faded gaseous floater or the ectoplasmic kinetic energy out-putter. LOL. How about, "don't click your mouse or you'll miss it..." spinning off of, 'don't blink or you'll miss it.' Muhahahahaha
  2. Very interesting introduction. I like it! The site is very clean and crisp. It's a refreshing welcome from sites with too many flashings and small fonts. Recently I read and made me wonder if we are putting too much to a page...? It is bit unconventional, for me, to have the navigation on the right hand side. But overall, the layout is clean with identifiable tags to cruise around the site. Well done.
  3. Additional google features can be found here: https://support.google.com/websearch/ These are examples of what you can type right on to the search bar in google. Perhaps the most redundant feature is the calculator. I mean c'mon! Is it really hard for you to calculate 5+5? Well maybe. LOL. However, google's example of is very impressive! The provided link also demonstrates the advance search capabilities, such as, searching for a specific file types, phonebook search (where you can type in names, city, state, etc), various shipping company's tracking number (it's scary to think that google knows about my package ) and my favorite link:(any site). This "link:" search shows you who else has linked that particular site to their website. Try link:http://forums.xisto.com/. You'll be amazed. This particular feature is almost as useful as the favicon feature. Favicon feature can identify how many people have bookmarked your site according to the download usage and divided by how many time favicon has been accessed. Have fun...
  4. I should have been clear and double checked. It was called BlackIce in the beginning but it was purchased and renamed to Internet Security Systems (ISS.NET). The reason I stayed with this firewall was it was issued by my university's IT depertment conjunction with Sun Micro. I would like to have your input on that company, whenever you have the time. Symantec Anti-virus 10 corporate edition has spyware built-in with small amount of pop-up block and little bit of internet traffic alert monitor. And I am using listed on my previous software on my system. Cheers.
  5. Oh yes. And the first thing I thought was, 'oh $*!%, I did something wrong!' I was in the middle of updating my personal account information and as a result of "violation" I, somehow, caused MY account to be suspended. I then accessed my hosting, cpanel, ftp and they all worked. And my next thought was, 'I've been hijacked.' I must have spent about 6 hours running all the blocking stuff I had in my computer: Spybot, SpywareBlaster, MS Malware, Anti-virus, BlackIce, webtrace and iptrace. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. And yes, although I have been reassured, Xisto went out of business. You see I have been scorned two times badly, and twice burnt thrice shy... There should be a contingency board that keeps members with updated forum status, independent from forum server. This keeps members notified and can relax without a worry. But then again, I can be asking too much to be redundant. My profession requires for me to be redundant and re-redundant. I guess my occupation hazard made me to be paranoid, somehow. Still trembling in my boots...
  6. Holy osmosis! A 117 DVDs and still growing? I have about 7 and probably it will stay that way. My view on DVD is that it is a time capsule for the Hollywood. And I only collect titles are going to be ?timeless.? For example, Eric Clapton ?Unplugged? and Eagles ?When Hell Freezes Over.? You will never get to see concerts like that, not now or not ever. Also, classic movies like, ?A River Runs Through It? and ?Casablanca.? Otherwise, it?s a weekly rental from my local movie store. I suppose I can say that there aren?t many movies I would like to collect. Maybe I feel that it?s not worth collecting due to poor script or poor theme. We have bunch of those these days, i.e. anything starting Jennifer Lopez. But you have a movie that comes only once in a life time and you see it and see it and? ?Gladiator? would be one of them. Most of my friends download movies and watch them. I suppose in a sense, they think they are saving the renting fees. But they have not considered the hours and hours of computer being turned on and eating up electricity? And they keep ALL of them in their hard drive. Talk about pack-rats.
  7. I was wondering if you could share the link with me and this forum, if that is you still have the link. I was truly looking for something very similar to animated flipping of the page with pictures. The site link I posted previously provides free downloading software to compile into the sample link I provided (be sure to get to the root of the directory). The free software was very simple to use: all I had to do was place pictures by selecting from my picture directory. Then saved it under my choosing folder name and presto! All I had to upload was the swf file and 1 picture folder (since it required to be 320x300 it automatically adjusted to fit the swf program). Very interesting. My next hunting is swf file that behaves exactly the same but instead of having the full spread book, I'd like to have it half spread so that I can maximize the view. Any participation would be appreciated. And yes, I could sit down and learn how to make it on my own but...
  8. Excellent trivia quiz thing-a-ma-bob!Although I thing most of psychology studies are just full of .... and it was something that people had come up to "identify" behaviors that could not be accepted in norm society. Simply, just your average "let's all move them to a room, lock the door and throw away the key." But holy .... I think I may need to see a doctor according to the result.Dr. Phil?
  9. The first time I heard Kasey Chambers was from live broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion. She appeared in the show with her father, Bill Chambers, playing "Not pretty enough." Perhaps her background of open country and fresh air makes her voice and lyrics very unique to my ears. Her song just spoke to me like no other song has been before--the heartache of someone who's afraid of letting the guard down. Her expression of love pain that applies to those who are in early teens, and perhaps, even to the ages of 40s and 50s is candid. She spoke with common knowledge that no matter what age you are in, the fear of getting to know someone and letting them see you is terrifying as ever. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for the Aussie voice... I would like to introduce to you Kasey Chambers, "Not Pretty Enough"
  10. Maybe it's me but I didn't see those cloudy effects. However, if you are referring to colors (shades) going dark and light, that's due to your auto exposure in your camcorder. If you would like to eliminate that, either manually "fix" (set permanently to a value, let's say +1 or -2 in your driver scene case) or use a Neutral Density lens filter. Shaking of the camcorder is natural, especially in the car. When driving footages are being shot the camcorder/camera is always fixed to the motion that is the greatest. So, mount your camcorder to either 1) the dash board 2) side handle 3) clamp it on window or hood. I know it's bit extreme but what you have to realize is that your body has many shock systems that you don't notice little bumps and jerks while driving. And since your hand is independent from your body when absorbing shocks, that's the reason that your footage is very shaky. To capture TV clip in high resolution, your capture card has to be able to capture in high resolution. In my humble opinion, 720x480 NTSC setting would be good enough. However, with advancement of HD-recorders these days, you should look into getting 1280x1024 24bit capture card. One example of capturing from TV would be using your TV tuner card. It's the best method I have found so far. Excellent work! Treat your sounds just like you would treat your video clips. Using your video editing software, place multiple song clips in each individual sound track and then you can fade in and out from one to the other, etc. I have been using Adobe Premiere and FinalCut Pro for over 5 years and both programs would do capture with drop/undrop frames. Therefore, your limitations are only caused by your imagination and your software. I think it's time for you to upgrade your hardware. Should you consider, I have found that Pentium 4 with HT technology to be the most cost effective and great for video editing. This is usually due to either 1) your processor cannot handle the mass streaming instruction to combine video and audio into one file (faster processor speed would help) 2) your memory and your processor is not synched (matter of front side and back side bus) 3) your cache setting is out dated for using video editing software 4) you do not have 10GB or more hard drive space to do the editing. Although your final video file might be less than 700MB, during your editing and converting Windows require at least 100MB per 1 minute of your footage as a temporary disc cache. And if you are working with DV AVI, you probably noticed that it takes about 1GB of disc space for about 30 minutes of your footage. Respond back to this thread, if you have the chance, with your progress.
  11. When I received my first rep point, I said to myself, ?man the person who game me a point sure is a nice fellow.? All I did was post a link to his question and I got one. The second point came unexpectedly with a reason that my ?post really flows?. Now this was the tear jerker! I received a reward simply being honest with my thoughts and shared with my forum community. It gave me whole new perspective on my presence here at Xisto. There were feelings and anticipations growing in side of me much too familiar. Do you recall some Japanese game thingy called, Damaguchi (SP?), where an owner has a digital pet and needed to keep it happy by entertaining, feeding, exercising, etc? Well, my purpose in this forum was to keep my free hosting alive, initially. But now, I am more inclined to participate as though my appearance depended on it. To further explain, it?s like my daily chores to keep my house cleaned and checked?always dusting, mowing, recycling and keeping trash tied up. So I dust (looking through new topics and threads), mow (keeping my post concise and straight to the point), recycle (going back to old unresolved threads) and my trash tied up (instead of coming back with one, two punch lines to display my ego, I hold it for few days in my thoughts and respect other?s point of view). Participating in Xisto?s forum gave me further sense of ?I belong here.? I?m glad I read NilsC?s post http://forums.xisto.com/topic/9858-reputation/ before I had the chance to counter post on one of my threads. I felt that one post in particular was well written, well researched and well represented. However, one of the responses was simple and narrow minded. The post basically denounced my intended message. Oh, I sat at my desk and tried to come up with an answer to put that poster to shame! But this is a forum and not a political debating table. And the reputation follows just like in real life?people will judge you however they judge no matter how good are your intensions. You cannot please everyone and everyone cannot like you. If you want your reputation points to increase, I?m sure you know what you have to do. But I think above all, reputation starts within you. It's how you view yourself in this Forum and your view of this Forum.
  12. I actually started my site, with the help of Xisto, to help students like you. Although I cannot give in-depth detail, I will try to lead you to the right way. My website is currently in development and I cannot "leak" any INS information/forms until I have the clearance. State universities would suit you better than private schools. However, due to the high tuition you have to pay for not being the "in-state" student, you may be alright to attend private schools, such as NYU. You will need to pay higher tuition than other in-state students for you are considered as an out of state tuition student. After residing in the same state for over a year, you may be qualified for residency application which then, you may be able to pay in-state tuition. Out of state students are known to pay 3 times the normal rate. If you are planning to work part-time, be sure to get student working visa prior to your entry to US. Once you are in, due to the recently changed laws, it might be harder to obtain one. This depends on where you are seeking your job. You will definitely have better chance of finding a job in major cities, i.e. NYC or LA than compare to Kentucky or Alabama (folks, please excuse me for using these states as an example). North Carolina and Nevada has been peaking with CS related works. There are already 100,000+ students are graduating with CS this year alone that you should consider pursuing a minor degree in Information Management. I'm assuming that you are looking for scholarships or grants to fund your studies? Currently, each state tuition assistance laws are different. Therefore, it would be harder and harder from now on to find scholarships for visitors. My recommendation would be always be punctual and ask lots of questions! Universities that are known to be strong in CS field (around where I live):New York University http://www.nyu.edu/ Columbia University http://www.columbia.edu/ Princeton University http://www.princeton.edu/main/ CW Post University http://www.liu.edu/CWPost.aspx Rochester Institute of Technology http://www.rit.edu/ University at Buffalo http://www.buffalo.edu/ Buffalo State College http://suny.buffalostate.edu/ TOFEL will be considered as though you have taken your SAT. You, no offence but judging by your writing, cannot take SAT since your English is not that strong. SAT would be that much harder for you. TOFEL will test your knowledge of English in grammar and semantic. The rules of a language are easier to study than flow of a common speech. Cheers.
  13. I would like to introduce, for those who have not heard of him, Damien Rice. His song, "The Blower's Daughter" was part of the soundtrack for the movie Closer, 2004. Often the artist's true conversation though the music is hindered in the music video. Damien Rice's "The Blower's Daughter" is an exception. He has two different versions of music video and they both well qualify to express, I believe, his true intention to the gravity of his message. This song brought back the memories of my first love and the first pain. His song, to me, is the nurturing the wound caused by naive love in innocent times that were ripped apart by immaturity. Truly, a song to reflect on life.
  14. quiksilver With all due respect, if you don't mind me asking, are you in elementary school? The reason I am asking is that I felt as though most of members were in their 20s and plus. I found out accidentally the other day that "Becca" (sp?) is still in teens! And judging by your 'omegagateway' website I thought you would in 20s as well. My apologies if I assumed it wrong. I have to say that your web-building skills are most impressive! We are living in exciting times, eh? When I was your age, we didn't have computers... I feel like an old time story coming up and it's from me. You probably don't remember the very first web browser called 'Mosaic'. The only font style was New Times Roman with 4 sizes. The coolest thing you could ever do back in 1992 was tag <HR> in different colors. I was the youngest alt.2600 back then... le sigh. Any way, I'm feeling my age.
  15. Yahoo! email storage update May 5, 2005Happy Cinco de Mayo, by-the-way!It is official. Yahoo! has increased email storage to 1GB. Check your Yahoo! email account and if you would, let me know. Although I did not sign up for any premiere account I no longer have advertisements displaying on my inbox. I am not complaining but I am curious to know if this is true for every Yahoo! email users.I guess this thread is considered closed since the topic question is now answered.Cheers.
  16. You would not believe what I found. http://style.org/unladenswallow/ I can't believe people actually write this stuff down... Next thing you know a physicist will prove that Santa Claus cannot fly and deliver all those goodies. OH WAIT! Someone already did! lol
  17. You did not specify whether it has to be instrumental only or not. Can it be copyrighted material as well? Some of the tracks I would recommend are: -Seven Soundtrack, Guilty (Gravity Kills) http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ -If you ever played Bejeweled 2, that game sound track is in codec called MO3. You need xmplay to convert MO3 to MP3. 42 minutes long and consists of 48 tracks http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I have uploaded sample clips to my site. You are welcome to listen to it. You should find out if its alright to use these materials for your usage. Materials will be removed in few days. Cheers.
  18. LOL This is going to turn into Seinfeld/Superman watch thread.
  19. The economy is very bad around my town. Although my town is the second largest city in the New York State, and the home of one national football team (NFL) and one hockey team (NHL), we are facing a county deficit of 180 million dollars. Part of that 180 million dollars are contributed to net profit loss from sporting events, such as hockey ticket revenues, parking fees and food sales. If you are planning to move to a town, don?t you EVER move to a 1) college town 2) town revolving around sports teams. LOL. I?m two for two!
  20. In the spirit of sharing .swf games, I provide the following link: http://www.tripletsandus.com/80s/80s_games/arcade.htm claiming that I do not own or have the copyright to the materials. If you are going to download or hotlink, you should contact the webmaster of that site. Otherwise, enjoy those 80's arcade games and remember the past... Cheers.
  21. You know funny thing is that when I had 3 blue blocks under my name, I was LEVEL 3. But recently I noticed that I have 4 blue blocks under my name and I am back to LEVEL 1. I have no idea what "LEVEL" represents. I should search for it or start a new thread. I have 4 blocks and getting the average credits I can remember. The long essay gave me 6 days once. A simple reply gave me 2 but the follow up posting gave me less than 1. This is to update/edit my previous posting. I found a thread that explains my LEVEL question at: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/21098-member-status-how-many-posts-do-you-have-to-have-to-be-an-x-member/ Thanks. Notice from NilsC: Merged posts per users request
  22. If you had asked me the very same question no more than a year ago, I would have answered, no, it does not come naturally to me. I need to sit down for few hours to come up with just a sentence to resemble what I have written. Funny thing in life is that sometimes the perfect answer comes long after the question was given. I believe that each and everyone has own time to answer the tough questions that one faces. And, it also takes wisdom to know when to answer or when to hold the opinion. I knew for the longest time that my answer would be something similar to what I posted. But it took decades of defining and redefining my thoughts not only to appeal to the logical minds but to myself and fellow congregations. The biggest challenge that I still face today is, can you prove it? And the traditional answer of you just believe and have faith no longer works these days. We are constantly bombarded with instant answers and quick fixes that I think we are losing the ability to be patient for the right answer. And funny how a brief story that I heard when I was 17 would one day be useful to answer the question at the age of 31. "Life, it seems, is without full of irony."--A line from a movie that I cannot recall who said it at this time. Still working on a draft... "Half of my life is a revision of the other half" - Unknown
  23. Son of a gun...someone already beat me to the idea. What we, Reduced Logic and I, are trying to achieve is something like this: http://ww2.fullyregistered.com/?folio=9POR7JU99 I hope this is alright to post a link without the user's permission. Since the link was publicly available I am assuming it is according to Xisto forum's rules. I do not claim any ownership or copyright to the material I have provided. Reduced Logic, that's wickedly cool eh?
  24. I have always wanted to do something like this too. All I want to do is upload images to a folder. Then the flash or whatever program automatically crops, resizes, thumbnails it and renames it for the purpose of photo album. Then somehow right the flash to mimic the actual photo album being "flipped" showing only one picture at a time. And the viewer has the total control over forward and backward. So imagine, if you will, a black backing photo album with a single photo per page held by 4 corner pasties. A small caption underneath to describe the memory in silver color. The viewer either clicks the lower right hand corner to see the next picture or lower left corner to see the previous picture. When the viewer clicks to move forwarded, an animation of "page turning" is executed.I don't know flash enough that I am unsure if this is possible.Cheers.
  25. LOL I'd like to clarify that 3,000 posts are required per yearly. According to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (referred by another thread), you can have free domain name with Q$6,000. Each of your posting or reviews will earn you Q$2. So, when you divide 6000/2 = 3,000 per year. I hope guangdian wasn't cussing at me for my silly polling.
