  1. The price range is quite decent. And you having bought a branded PC also need to be considered. Because, you can be assured of good provider service if you get branded PC's, which is not the case with assembled PC's and you having bought an HP, I am sure the service is quite good in almost all the places. But, I am a little skeptical about the processor. I am not sure, how good is the AMD processor. I would always recommend Intel processors, that too the Intel Core 2 duo has been a hit and is on top for the past 1-2 years. So... you should have done some research before going for that... If you have already done and then went ahead for the AMD processor, thats quite fine. All other configurations are quite fine. Have fun. A piece of advice: Do not get feedback, once you have purchased the laptop. Bad feedback might hurt you. Its better to all these before you buy.
  2. Are you very specific about using a particular chatting software in your website, or any tool that will help you in chatting will do? If you are fine with a tool that can do the job, here is a small suggestion from me. You can use Google Talk Chatback Badge to Have Instant Communication with your Blog or Website Visitors. All you need to have is a gmail ID, which can be created here (https://accounts.google.com/SignUp?continue=https%3A%2F%2Faccounts.google.com%2FManageAccount). In order to encourage better way of communication with the visitors of your website or blog visitors, Google has recently released an instant communication tool called Google Talk chatback badge. This Google talk gadget tool allows blog or website visitors/viewers to chat with the owner (you, in this case) even if that particular visitor have not signed up for Google Talk or created a Google Account. But the experience is better if the visitor has an account. So... its as simple as that. Just create an google account and add the chat badge in your blog/ website and your visitor can communicate with you easily. For more help, please visit the below links. https://www.google.com/talk/service/a/DOMAIN/badge/New http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Took time to compile the specifications as the CPU type and speeds are not available readily.
  4. There are multiple things you can do. 1. Host your own wordpress This is one of the best options if you want to have your own domain and hosting. You have to download the latest version of wordpress from wordpress.org and install it in your webserver. You might have to have few things before doing this. Like you should have a domain name something like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and a webserver, where you will host your websites, wordpress blog in this case. Once you have both of them, its just a matter of few minutes to get your blog up and running. You shouls also have a mySQL server from your webhosting space provider, because the wordpress installation needs a mySQl server for it work. It is in the database server that the posts are stored. So, a database is very important. Once you download the wordpress, you have to upload it to your webserver using an ftp client, pre-requisite being you have an ftp login and an ftp client. Once you have uploaded the wordpress, files, search for the famous 5 minutes installation in wordpress site which will guide you through step by step instructions on setting it up which will hardly take few mins. Once it is done, you are ready to make posts in your blog. Its always better to get your domain and hosting space ready before you set up your blog and share it with everyone as the DNS propagation might take 2-3 days and if everything is done on the same day, you might not be able to share it with your friends. 2. Custom domain on wordpress.com It is also possible to have your wordpress.com blog have a custom domain, but for this you might have to pay wordpress.com. Please check the revised rates in the website. This is again an easy option if you do not want to go through the hassle of setting it up, configuring and maintaining the site and leave it to the experts. In your case, since you already have a domain in wordpress.com and wanted to move to a custom domain, you can upload all your posts (including comments) to an xml files (search for this export option in your wordpress dashboard) and import them in your new blog once you set it up using the 1st setup method. This can be done when you have to move your blog from other blogging sites like blogger.com also.
  5. I do not think its working. It shows the apache configuration page. Are you still working on this site? or have you moved it to a different location? If yes, provide the right links. Thanks. Note: What has happened? For the past few mins, I have been hitting on links like this (that has been deadpooled, word that I started using after my techcrunch addiction) and making similar posts. I am tired. Hope the link I click next reaches its destination. Would be glad.
  6. Is it still working? I do not think so. If you have moved it to a different place, could you update the link in the post. Its a little deceiving. As of now, its gets redirected to a parked domain with links.
  7. Could you provide a different link? It does not load and gets redirected to a parked domain in Godaddy. If its your picture you could upload it to a different site and post that link here. Thanks.
  8. Its nice,. Its different. How did you manage to do it? I mean the tools and techniques used to get the final picture? I think you should come up with tutorials on this...
  9. This is cool. I am sure the members will like this initiative as it will give more light for their pictures. Below is a picture taken by me. I am giving you permission to use it in your sitre provided you give me full credit. Thanks again. Please let me know if you need more details on the picture and I will be glad to provide them. //dead link// The above picture was taken using Olympus Fe 280 having normal settings with flash in the night. Its a dragonfly.
  10. han han.. Varalu is my real name. I used my Olympus Fe 280. Surprisingly I used Auto settings with flash on. It was in the night as you can see from the background. The first few shots were not really good, but after changing few settings, got it right. I am not an camera expert either. But still the conditions were right and got the picture perfectly. Moreover the dragon was not moving and that was an added advantage and helped me capture it in a way I wanted.
  11. DId you know that Nano is rolling out this month? Did you know about NANO car in the first place? Ok. Here it goes. Nano is an ambitious car project from the Tatas (TATA Motors). It is supposed to be the cheapest car in the world priced at 1 lakh (INR) which is close to 2k US dollars. It follows all emission and other standards. Read More about the NANO here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tata_Nano Now the car is rolling out this month and its like everyone wants to have one. The demand is quite high due to less price and families planning to have a bike will go for a Nano instead.
  12. Check out this picture. // link dead // I took this outside my house. Did not realize that this picture will be so cool, but it turned out to be one. Should give credit to my room mate who pointed me to this dragon. Actually took so many pictures from different angles and using different mode. Have posted the best one.
  13. Phishing is a threat. If you are doubtful about mails you receive, do not click any of the links in the mail. Find a way to identify Phishing mails. How do you identify Phishing emails? There are few things that will help you identify the source of the mail. You should definitely take a look at ?Mailed-by? section, which in many cases help you identify the actual source of the mail. The above details might not be available directly in the mail. You might have to expand the header of the mail to view this information. These days, stealing personal information is on the high, and its upto the user to use the internet properly and carefully.
  14. Yes. I also heard read about it. More information available in the below link. http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-tamilnadu/article1402366.ece Its kind of nice to have a company like Google taking up this initiative.
  15. There used to be several such offerings online, but each has switched over to paying accounts (with everything limited) or with banners and stuff. Sometimes the bandwidth is limited. But I have seen some services offering free ftp space. I am not sure if you have tried this service - https://www.hightail.com/. Its quite good. Here are some of the ftp services. I have not used any of them... but some of them are recommended by my friends. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Why don't you get some webspace and use it for your file servers for transferring files? I am sure, webspace has become very very cheap these days. Have a nice day.
  16. IMPORTANT: This information is specific to INDIA. If you are from a different country, this might not be of use to you, but you can always comment on it. From April 1 2009, you will be able to withdraw cash/ do balance inquiry etc at any banks ATM in India for free. Please check the below link. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Have confirmed this info by calling my banks customer care. At last, there will be less waiting time outside specific bank ATM's. This has already been the case in countries such as UK, Germany and France. Bank customers have access to all ATMs in the country, free of charge except when cash is withdrawn from white label ATMs or from ATMs managed by non-bank entities like brokers or private entities.

    Mobile Os

Which is the most advanced/ best mobile operating system currently available? There are so many mobile phone operating systems currently available in the market. But not all of them are quite good. Some of them exceeds expectation, some of them are OK and some of them are bad... believe me... very bad. What do you think is the best mobile operating system according to you. It would be great if you could point out the advantages and disadvantages from your experience. I have been using the iPhone for the past 3-4 months and was using Symbian before that. I am sure you will know what my answer would be. iPhone OS exceeds expectations than many other mobile OS. The competition comes down to windows mobile and Iphone in many cases. There are also other OS's namely from Palm, O2 etc. Here are some of the advantages of the iPhone OS.1. Its very advanced. Its very intuitive.2. Very comfortable for installing multiple applications.3. Supports 3g, 2g, GPS, GPRS and more4. Very stable and secure5. Supports 3rd party applications6. SDK with rich set of API's than any other OS.
  18. I have an iPhone and one of my friend was exploring more details on the Diamond. I should say... Diamond is not even close to iPhone on various fronts. There are not many applications you can find for Diamond like in iPhone, where you have the appstore with 25k+ applications and more being added every day. The interface is very intutive and gives the best user experience I have ever seen. Now that OS 3 is also coming with the issues like copy/paste addressed + MultiMedia messaging etc. I am sure iPhone take Diamond hands down.
  19. One of my friend was asking me "How is insurance premium calculated ?". Ya.. I know. It is a very complicated process and I still tried to explain him. Here it goes. In different places it is calculated differently. I will tell you 2 basic differences taking two different countries. Say for example in UK, YOu can decide a premium for a particular person based on his characteristics. YOu can also add some extra amount to that person of you think he is very rich. The state laws allow you to do that, which is not the case with US. Considering US, YOu cannot come up with your own premium for a particular person. You can decide on premiums only based on segments example: He belongs to a segment of people whose annula income is > $100k and so for that segment the premium will be calculated in this way. To help you understand it better.. everywhere the premium calculation is done by using the below formula. Premium = Base Rate * Rating Factor 1 * Rating Factor 2 * RF3 * RF4 Rating Fators are basically, those metrics which will determine if you will have a higher or lower premium based on characteristics. Below are some of the Rating Factors: 1. Age 2. IS Score 3. Your accident history 4. YOur History with prior insurance companies 5. YOur Premium Payment history 6. Number of cars you own 7. etc etc etc. The above are some of the rating factors I have given you. But there are many. There will be a value associated with different segments and that will be multiplied with the base rate and that will give you your final premium. Example: 1. Age -- If you are young/old, you are risky so RF value will be say 2. But if you are in the age between 30-40, you will be very careful and the RF value will be say 1. 2. Accident History - Say you had 2 accident in past 1 year, your RF for this segment will be 2.5 and if no accident it will be 1.5 3. Prior Insurance History - If your prior insurance history is good, you will have a low rating factor else it will be high When you add this to your base rate, you will come up with the premium. Your Premium = 100(Example) * 2 (RF for your age 23) * 1.5 (RF for your acc. history ie. no accident) = $300 Your Fathers Premium = 100(Example) * 1(RF of your fathers age - less because of his age, he will drive responsibly) * 1.5 (again, your father had no accident history) = $150 The above will be the premium if in case of US and they cannot do anything about it unless they can categorize. Say you are in UK, if they think you are a bad person, they can add some 20$ to your premium, just like that. This is the overall calculation of the premium, but there are so many rating factors, segments where they classify you and try to get the right premium from you. Hope this helps. Thoughts/ ideas/ correction? please add them. How does it work in your country? Share it. I would love to know.
  20. One of my friend was telling me about this. This is indeed bad news man... Heard that Honda is also trying to sell the team to some other potential buyers... If not, its going to withdraw its support and God knows what will happen next. After this, some of the other companies might also consider this option and withdraw support for their teams or disown them... Lets see what happens.
  21. You have to use POP3 to retrieve all you mails to some email client and save the file to a new place or write it in a disk... First please check if you have POP enabled in your hotmail Account. I know it is there in Gmail and few other services. If POP is not there or not enabled, you are in big trouble, since getting all your mails is very difficult unless you spend few hours to sit and forward all your mails... IMAP is another option... but I doubts if it will be there in hotmail... Again IMAP is present in gmail. Another piece of advice. If its not too late, set an autoforward to forward all your messages to some other ID, which has all these options. Hope this helps.
  22. This one is very nice and is the best explanation by far... Finally an explanation we can all understand...
  23. I know that it is possible to save the query results from a database to an external file. Though it is not a straight forward process in many of the database, some of them do allow it and others do not. You might have to use an external tool to achieve this functionality. Say for example you cannot do an export to an external file in Oracle directly. You might have to use some kind of front end software to achive this. I have used TOAD and it has an option to do it... There is an option inbuilt in ORACLE to spool. But what Spool does is save all the queries that are typed, results returned, metadata etc etc. which cannot be used by any other application directly. But in case of TOAD, the results are displayed in a datagrid and user has to export manually and save it in the format required in the specified location. The user will be given a choice of delimiter in the file that is being saved... Similarly MySQL also has an option... Unlike ORACLE, where it is dependent on external tools like TOAD, MySQL has an inbuilt option which enables exporting the results returned to an external file by specifying the option in the query itself.... This is one of the most convenient ways... FOr quite some time I was searching for an option to do this in MS SQL. I do not have an installation of this software in my machine and cannot test it... Has anyone got a proven method of doing it in MS SQL? If so... please share it with me. It will be of great help and can help some of my friends who are currently facing this bottleneck. Also, let me know if this can be achieved using some external open source tool, which is again easy to use and does not involves complex process/ procedures. If you want more help on how it is done exactly in Oracle and MySQL with syntax you can refer to the below link. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  24. I have an iPhone. Do you really want me to tell you what all stuff I do in my phone... Here it goes. 1. Make calls. 2. Receive calls 3. Send and Receive SMS 3. Use it to keep track of time - Alarm, stop watch etc. 4. Use the calendar extensively. Use it to create events. I have synced it with my google calendars. And there by I have everything in my calendar. 5. MP3 of course. Listen to music. 6. Use internet - Browse Browse and keep doing it till I get tired. 7. Check weather and Stock info. 8. Which traveling - Browse maps and locations 9. Use it for search when required 10. Utilities -- iPhone has an appstore and you get n number of utilities from there. I use fake a call, evernote, voice recorder etc etc. Just browse the appstore and you will know what all it has. 11. Games -- iPhone has thousands and thousands of games to download and play. I have been using it extensively. I think I have almost covered everything... If i have missed something and its there in future, probably I am using it and forgot to put that here...
  25. Just by looking at the title of the topic, I was excited thinking that I have got an interesting topic to vent out my Linux/ Windows gyan... but after reading your post, got disappointed. Just kidding. Meaning, you were very specific in what you want and that makes my work simpler. Your whole objective is to play games. So linux/ mac is out pf question. Most atleast many of the exciting games are available only for the windows operating system. Only very few games have support for other operating systems. So you have to stick with Bill Gates. Now lets get into the actual discussion of which OS to go within Windows. Vista is totally out of question, though I have used it for some time and it worked perfectly fine.. but still it required some tweaking from time to time... And the next best solution is windows XP and I think it is one of the most stable OS ever... The older versions like Windows 2000 is also good... But XP is the best choice. Lets also hope that the latest OS will be equally good.... Windows -> Xp should be your ideal choice.
