Active vs. Passive Active Versus Passive Ftp Active - your client connects to FTP server on port 21. When you request data, it responds by it (FTP Server)connecting TO YOUR CLIENT on port 20. Passive - your client connects on port 21. It issues the PASV command and the FTP server says "for data, connect to this IP Address on this port". Your client connects on the indicated IP/port. (that data port >1023) So, if you are behind a not-too-bright firewall/router or a very secure one, active will not work. The FTP server tries to connect back to you; the firewall sees a random request to connect on port 20 and either has no idea what to do with it, or deliberately blocks it. In Passive mode, you connect for the control (port21) and then you are told which port for the data (let's say, port 5000). You connect (I.E. Port 5000) and the FTP server's firewall knows to forward new connections on the passive FTP ports (let's say, 5000 - 5100) to the FTP Server. All the connections come from you TO the server. The only possible problem - your own ultra-secure firewall may not allow outgoing connections on port 5000-5100(or whatever). Then, you're toast. Against stupidity and paranoia the gods themselves labour in vain. Because of the predominance of firewalls today, IE7 defaults to "use passive FTP" ("Tools - Internet Options - Advanced"). I think Firefox only allows Passive now? Does anyone know? Some FTP clients allow "if one fails, try the other". The DOS box FTP in Windows does NOT do passive. One more gotcha - in IIS7, you can program the FTP site's IP address and port range for passive FTP - the address returned in response to the client's PASV command. Obviously, you would program the firewall IP (external address) of your network, so outside clients can ftp to your server. Therefore, passive ftp will not work from inside your network, because your FTP server will respond with the firewall IP instead of its internal IP (odds are your firewall won't allow internal-to-internal bounce). And a last gotcha - on an older Sonicwall firewall, I found the response to the PASV command was being blocked as an FTP bounce attack, since the response contained the firewall's external address, not the FTP's internal address. The firewall automatically blocked a response that contained an IP address that did not match the source address (the FTP server's internal address). I had to go into the Sonicwall hidden advanced menu (diag.Html) and uncheck the option to protect against ftp bounce attacks.

Use ChkDsk Deleting A Corrupt File To use chkdsk just type "chkdsk /f" on you command prompt, you'll get a mesage saying that chkdsk cannot lock the current file and that It will run the nest time you reboot your system. So reboot it and that fixes all the corrupted files problems without filling tour PC with crap you are using just once. -reply by Chepecj

Help!!! i created a con file!!!!!!! You Cannot Create A File Named Con I heard on the internet that you couldent createb a con file so I tried it out... First I made a new folder and changed the name to "con". It diddent worke and the folder was still called new folder so I tried to call it "con." this time it gave me an error message and I klicked ok. Then I tried to call it con... (don't ask why probably out of pure boredom) and it worked the file was named con (not con...) well when I tried to delete the con file it gave me an error message it said cant delete data: data cant be read from datasource. Ctrl+alt+delete and new task explorer worked fine though...So I assumed it was a corrupt explorer.Exe or a bad registry entryHOWEVERAfter alot of research (no websites have a decent answer)In my case it was userinit.ExeWhen I checked system32 there was no userinit.Exe, but my pc wouldnt let me download userinit.Exe (it just plain refused)So I saved the file as userinit.Exee and it worked.. Thats when I realised it was something more malicious. One reason why America doesn Dating Sims? I think one reason the states does not have many or any dating sims is the same reason why all the good animation stories are made in Japan. These are called 'Anime' and there is more realistic human behavior with anime characters than there are with the standard cartoon charactes in America. Some people like the simplistic Disney cartoons where good guy fights villian, saves the damsel in distress and becomes a hero. Then there are the so called 'cute' animal toons in which the the story follows the exact same blueprint, but with animales instead of people. The non Otaku in America just don't get it. In anime, characters don't just fight evil and save the day. They get emotional, they often will do a bad thing even though they are good, and vice versa. They also worry, have anxiety, cuss when they get mad or upset, have the same desires and behave the same way as people in real life do, and they are not the simple two dimensional characters with no substance that litter every Disney animation. One of the big things is that anime comes in all kinds of ratings, and the Japanese culture does not think that everything animated has to be suitable for infants. The Japanese look at animation in a much more mature manner than their American counterparts, and it is the same way with the anime games ( like the dating sims we are discussing). Americans think that everything animated (cartoon, game, or whatever) needs to either be either educational at the pre-school level or be entertaining at the 'Barney the Dinosaur' leve. I don't know why the American animation industry has this limited mindset about animation, but it demonstrates how much more mature the Japanese are than the Americans, when it comes to this subject. Missing files Can You Create A Folder Name "con" I copied some files into my hard drive from my friends computer.But when I connect hard drive to my computer that files are missing. My dives capasity is 11.7GB. When I selected all files and get properties it says 9.17GB. But in drive properties says used space = 10.6 and free space = 1.04 Whole 1.49 GBs are missing.
