  1. The best linux distro, or rather the most popular, is Ubuntu. As such it has great community support and most applications that work on Linux work flawlessly on Ubuntu. Check it out.
  2. XP has been supported for a loooong time, it came out in 2001. Microsoft wont stop letting people activate XP or use it, or even buy it, however if some new flaw shows up Microsoft will have the right to simply tell you to upgrade to Vista as a solution (doesn't mean they will). All this means is that more people at Microsoft will focus on Vista rather than XP so except less security updates. Also new software released by Microsoft won't support XP (but they will probably run on XP anyway)
  3. I would love some recommendations on what books are most helpful for learning PHP.I know XHTML, CSS, some Javascript. I do know some PHP as well. Also can someone also recommend some books on Advanced PHP, that actually shows how to create a fully functional and somewhat complex website/application. (Like RailSpace does for Ruby on Rails)
  4. Well, these names are used bu general users and doesn't really hurt the companies much, but I can't stand it when Apple start there Microsoft bashing EVERYTIME they have a conference or something. I mean when Tiger was announced they actually had huge banners that read "Redmond start your photocopiers", which basically implied that Microsoft would copy the features in Tiger. Even during their speeches high profile folks like Steve Jobs starts bashing Microsoft. What a bunch of whiners.
  5. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/analysts-double-take-on-take-two-earnings/1100-6178536/ Its nothing official but apparently there have been some plans to release Max Payne 3. It is a very profitable franchise and more sequel won't be all that bad for in financial terms at least.
  6. Google's acquisition spree might be harmful for them in the long run. The more companies they buy the more they lose their focus on whats actually helping their companny grow. Its not search, its advertising, and they have yet to monetize upon many of the sites that they have acquired, ie. Youtube and JotSpot. The Youtube video ad overlay is not that great, very annoying to see ads on what is already a tiny video. Microsoft have a technology in research phase but unfortunately the management at Microsoft is so horrible that it may not see the light of day.
  7. A Programmer? No. An Aspiring Programmer? Yes. I have a deep interest in Web Programming so I started learning that. I am pretty good at XHTML and CSS and I know the absolute basics of Javascript and PHP, meaning I can alter existing scripts to some extent but can't really write efficient code on them. Right Now I'm focussing on PHP, which I hope to complete in a month, because I think I could make a really functional site easily using XHTML CSS and PHP. I'll move onto Javascript and Ajax after that.
  8. RIAs mean Rich Internet Applications, which are basically new websites like Adobe Buzzword, Zoho, etc.The Opera wand is the same thing as Roboform (which I use on firefox). What I meant was a universal profile that was saved on the browser and could be called by any website that needs the required information, thus eliminating the required of registering on every site u use and even needing to log in.And yes I am using v2 now but when the final version of v3 comes out I'll HAVE to switch over to the new version, because as much as I dislike the new 'improvements', I just can't stand to use a out-of-date product.
  9. Or you could just kill your cousin and make it look like an accident. Works like a charm, everytime.
  10. Are you serious? The web is changing and we are seeing new technologies being implemented everyday, the browser on the other hand hasn't really changed at all. The browsers should now re-invent itself as as a platform for developing RIAs. For starters the functionality of Greasemonkey and Stylish should be built into the browser, ie. the ability to set a stylesheet and javascript for individual sites.Certain functions that are common among all sites should be built into the browser, for example why do we need to register for every site we go to by giving the same information over and over again. Why cant the browser do that for us? And I don't mean a form filler, but rather something more akin to CardSpace.Managing downloads also need work. We can have multithreaded downloads with pause-resume feature that actually works, as well as the possibility to automatically search for mirror (by matching filename/format/size). And lets not forget about support for torrents, etc.History and Bookmark could use a lot of work as well....and a back button that works on AJAX sites.
  11. Despite everything, you must admit, Firefox isn't what it used to be. When v1 and v2 came out it was an amazing product. Now its not, its just another browser. I really hope that v4 will be revolutionary. Or IE8 or Opera10 will take up innovation.
  12. assuming you cousin is a guy, its not too big a deal. Maybe your bf needed another guy to hang out with. How you act depends on what your bf is like. You can tell him how you feel, but don't complain too much. If your bf really likes your cousin then you complaining just makes him feel like you don't "get" him. You could talk to your cousin too, tell him to stop hanging out with your bf. Unless he's a complete *bottom* he'll at the very least tone it down.
  13. Yea I know about how the hosting credits work and about the rules as well (they are basically the same on most forum - no spam, no referral links, nothing grossly adult, etc. etc.). I hope I don't break, although I come with no guarantees. <_<Thanks for welcoming me, btw.
  14. No seriously, I've been using Firefox since 0.x releases. I loved it. Every release, despite having no huge features, was a great update. Version 3, however, totally messes everything up. Its default interface is ugly. And no Home button, really ??? (ps. I kno i can drag it back from the bookmarks toolbar but still, its stupid). The address bar search thing. I liked the concept, but I am so used to the old way, this actually distracts me, I don't want to search my history everytime I type a new address. Plus the slide out is huge now making the whole thing feel too bulky. And finally the seemingly small and seemingly insignificant changes (like download manager) are exactly the kind of changes that are supposed to be left to the user to decide, via extensions.Really to improve Firefox only needed to make certain experiences like installing addons and themes seamless (like no restarts and compatibility issues). And they needed a sleek new interface. Honestly why isn't there a single great theme out there for Firefox?Anyways, despite all the flaws I guess I'll just have to get used to it, because even is if sucks now, it sucks less than every other alternative out there.
  15. Really, GMail invites. Oh my God. I'll give 500 dollars for one....Wait. Sorry, I thought this was 2003.
