Turns out it's a driver issue with the onboard Realtek audio, but that the solution was to disable the internal speaker. I couldn't find for the life of me where to do this in Win7 until i read this post. For the Realtek, instead of the "Custom" tab, it's called the "Levels" tab. There you can slide PC Speaker down to 0.

I am quite fortunate to have moved away to university where the clossest thing we have to chavs was a themed pub crawl and most of those who went did not bother with following that theme. My most recent memory of chavs was of two sitting on a stone step outside a labour club making gorilla noises.Maybe if I had fed those little darlings a banana or two I would have had the opurtunity to see them sat upon the same step from all those years ago.
