  1. I already ordered WinXP SP2 Free CD (backup purpose) and got it last week even though I already downloaded it (I'm still 56K).I have two computers and installed on both of them. One computer runs fine but the other goes awry. Internet connection becomes very slow on the other computer.I don't know what's wrong. So I just removed SP2 and I'll wait until SP2a will be released. All in all, SP2 is better especially the overall IE and firewall security improvements. Also numerous bug fixes. Remember, SP2 is over 2 and a half year updates before SP1.I recommend you upgrade, if it goes wrong then remove it.
  2. MacPro: Best for photo designers and video editing; more secure than win; fasterCons: very expensive; very few softwares availableWindowsPro: Many softwares; cheaper; customizableCons: Not so secure; easier to crash; interface is harder to learn than MacMe? I use both.
  3. Friends have recommanded 1stpage but I'm sticking with notepad. I'm too used to it to give it up.
  4. I got Windows Media Player v10 beta the first time it was released. I thought the final version will come out late but it was released so fast. But indeed Media Player 10 is better. I recommend you upgrade especially for those who downloads music from the internet. It has also a great CD burning feature with added functionality compare to version 9.Others are purely cosmetic changes.
  5. You use an FTP Client to control FTP Sessions (When you've logged in with your client). There's two ways to upload files, Binary (usually compiled programs) and ASCII (text based files and text interpretted). Most FTP Clients are programmed to notice file extensions, file types and correctly pick the right method for uploading content automatically so you don't have to manually force which mode unless it's not being correctly uploaded. I recommend FileZilla for Windows, which is a very good FTP client. The default port for FTP is 21 and is only different if for security reasons you don't want everyone knowing your FTP server even exists. You connect by filling in the information for your FTP server, the ftp address. e.g. ftp.yoursite.com, your username your password the port and that is it. Once you are connected, the default location is usually the root of your directory, your public_html directory or you could be given a level higher than this which is not shown as part of your web area. Your public_html directory is where your web content would go, you can alter permissions on your directory and files. For cgi scripts, you would upload them in your cgi-bin (ASCII, as it's text for the interpretter to read, as the interpretter doesn't understand binary), you would change permissions (chmod) to 755, which gives the owner full rights, the group and user only read/execute permissions. With you client, you can do quite similar things as you can in Windows Explorer environment, creating directories, deleting, renaming etc. You can upload or download files from your ftp server. Sometimes you need to set FTP to use passive if you're behind a NAT/Router (mostly for DSL users) but if the default works, then it should be OK to leave it as it is. Cheers, MC
  6. Can you elaborate more on this topic, encrypt passwords for your website? How are you storing the passwords and is it for logging in or something else? Cheers, MC
  7. Normally I upload my files to some online server. Bad freehosting. Before uploading [/br]<?[br]error_reporting(E_ALL); [/br]?>[br] Put this in the top of my scripts
  8. Yes I tested it out with Mozilla for Windows and it works as well, I only questioned it because of how different linux and windows are from each other, that building portable software is no easy means. Although if the tables were turned, who would (should!) build an adblocker that would only work with IE on Windows... Microsoft would be one, and there'd be a few more. Cheers, MC
  9. I believe Brian W. Kernighan is the reason behind those words, in his tutorial on the B Language, that is where he included the code to actually do hello world. This trend continued in his other books with Dennis Ritchie for the C Programming Language first and second edtion. Those words have made a scene in reality and virtual worlds, Golf players saying it, Virtual news readers saying it, most programming languages follow it's trend now. Cheers, MC
  10. To save annoying moving of files to your public_html just do a redirect the following tells you how: Just goto cpanel>manage redirects>add a ridirect with the following properties, (if you don't have an index.html in your public_html directory create one, it doesn't matter if its blank): http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ --->>>>>> http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Set as a permanent redirect and add. Hope this helps
  11. sure spectre I am currently adding the links and pages you suggested, thankyou for your interest and input. If you would like to view they r18 games please visit my site below.
  12. Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't thought of it that way. This is by far the best suggestion/advice I've been given with web design as of yet. I really appreciate all of the comment, suggestions and advice everyone has given. But as I said, this was just a possibility for a logo. I have actually started a different concept that is currently still in it's beginning stages. After I have it mostly complete, I will probably add it for review. Thanks again for all the great suggestions/advice, -- J. P.S. Yes, before my SN was ToxiqueSprite...
  13. I just wanted to let the Admins and Mods know that I wont be here for the better part of a week, starting tomorrow (Friday). I will be leaving to visit my sister in Montana and she doesn't have an internet connection for me to use. I will be returning on the 4 of October. I didn't think that my account would be canceled in the time that I'm gone. But I figured it's better to be safe than sorry. So, I just wanted to let you all know that so that my account isn't deleted while I'm absent for the week. Later, -- J.
  14. I wasn't able to see your animated banner. But I would have to say that most animated banners are just a pain and usually do not look all that great. But, if the animation is done sparingly and tastefully it can be very pleasing on the eye. I would still have to say that I do not prefer animations. Fabulous sig by the way. I like it quite a bit... Later, -- J.
  15. Well, happy 55th... I didn't even know that it was China's National Day. So, have a fabulous celebration and give a yell for me... Later, -- J.

  17. That's quite a claim, although it could be the reason why IE is buggy in favicons, they could have dropped compatibility with it, although some people report it still works, it doesn't work in my IE version 6 other than if I bookmark a page using favicons, then it will show it. 256 colours is supported in Mozilla, and would not crash due to it. Any more reasons not to switch? Cheers, MC
  18. Try the full path to it, Just add http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/? etc... to it, as you may not be linking correctly to it. Other than that, PM OpaQue if all else fails. Cheers, MC
  19. cheers admin! Dont worry these games are not very big, bandwidth will be fine!!
  20. Yeh a few are blood and gore, but I want to add a few sort of playboy card games etcc. These games contain sort half nudity shots of women but if i give notice, isnt it sort of like a disclaimer? So i would be fine to put these games on. I have seen many sites such as World Talk Forums do this legally and succesfully in their arcade. I see no reason why i could not. Please consider
  21. Hey everyone I have a pretty gud arcade now I was just wondering if I am allowed to add R18 arcade games.I clearly will note that the games area is for people of the ages 18 and over. Is this sufficient?I am hosting these games caus they are entertaining and i am sure they will increase my member base, thus strengthen the community.

    CGI Bin

To make use of your cgi-bin you would need to learn how to make cgi scripts. A language that is used for creating cgi scripts is PERL you can use other languages but PERL is widely used for CGI scripting. You create the script with reference to your perl interpretter which will process your script and do what the commands suggest. You will need to learn PERL/CGI programming, or you can look at other pre-made scripts and use them to your disposal. Cheers, MC
