  1. Finally got my inability to post here at Trap 17 fixed, it's been a couple weeks since I could get involved in any discusions, and I sure did miss it. And of course my hostingcredits or cents or what ever have dwindled to the point my web site was in jepordy, so now I have to get busy for sure!I wanted to remind everyone of some wintertime pet care tips. Just because it's cold out there, your pet (I am of course, refering to dogs) still needs plenty of water to drink. Make sure if you have an outside dog that it has access to water several times a day, water freezes rapidly and will not stay consumable for very long in the very cold weather. Just a short time period in severe cold will glaze ice over the water dish and your pet won't be able to drink. Don't neglect your pet's hair coat either. A clean fluffy coat is much warmer for your dog than a dirty matted one. While you may suspend clipping off coats short like you would normally keep them in summer, keep that brush handy and keep him tidy. If you walk your dog on city streets/sidewalks that have been treated with chemicals, be sure to wipe your dog's feet when you come back in the house. Chemicals can irritate your dogs feet, and also, in the case of salt, it is not good for a dog to consume a lot of salt, so if he licks the salt off his paws, it could make him ill. For the outside dogs, make sure their dog house is well bedded down with good dry bedding. This can be challenging sometimes, dog seem to enjoy dragging out the bedding as fast as you can pupt it back in. There are any number of things you can use for bedding, hay, straw, blankets, towels, I like large carpet squares, just make sure you check it frequently to make sure it is dry. If you plan on boarding your dog over the holidays, make sure he is up to date on all shots and make sure you know the requirnment of the boarding facility you plan to use.
  2. Well, we live in the boon docks, so deliver of anything here is out of the question, but we can phone in an order for pizza to our local Caseys convience store and usually pick it up in about 20-30 minutes. (Caseys by the way, makes a wonderul pizza) We do order it that way occasionally, and mostly out of convience, when both of us are just too tired to bother cooking something. And it tastes good too.Ok, I just noticed your avatar, that is so cute! We need a new toaster, where on earth did you find that one???? Notice from jlhaslip: merged
  3. Ok, crossing all fingers and toes.......... YIPPEE!!!!! It worked!!!! Thanks so much! And thanks to jlhaslip who posted for me and lent me some much need moral support.
  4. Ok, trying to post. I upgraded to Explorer 7 thought that might help.No such luck. I already tried several times to clear browser cache, cookies and history, did not help at all.I am using Wild Blue satellite internet. I don't have anything that would block trap to my knowledge. I haven't added anything to the computer that would change that. "The original poster hasn't even replied so I'm not sure asking any more questions would be worth while" As I mentioned in my first post, I CAN'T reply. I'm going to have to find somebody's email address and forward this message to them to post for me. Posted on behalf of Sheepdog by jlhaslip
  5. Since the forums have been updated, I can no longer post here. I'm having a friend of mine trying this post from his computer. I have been exchanging emails with the tech support people, but now they aren't even returning my emails. Last night I hit reply to one of the earlier messages they had sent me and it bounced back undeliverable. I have done the basic things tech recomended, deleted cookies, logged out, made sure security settings were correct etc. Nothing is working. I can log in, but I cannot stay logged in. As soon as I try to make a post, I get a message that says I do not have permission to post on that topic, and then I am logged out automaticly. Also, while I am online, I keep getting this little box that pops up that says I do not have permission to post in the shoutbox. And I get it when I'm not even trying to post in the shoutbox. It pops up constantly, especially during the time I am trying to type a message to post. (I can get the reply to message page to come up) I have signed up for the my cents and made the order for the web hosting, as instructed by support, but that has not helped either. I am afraid I will soon be loosing my web site and I just can't let that happen. Can someone PLEASE help me??????? If you have any ideas, post away. I can read them, I just can't reply.
  6. All I can tell you about my experiences here at Trap 17 are that they have all been good. I was warned by a lot of people to avoid free web hosting sites, but I am a stubborn old goat and was bound and determined to try anyway. So far I have been very pleased with web hosting here. Granted, keeping up posts is time consuming, but I have a little more time than money (I have no money) so it works well for me. The hosting service is fairly reliable, there has only been one major down time for several days, and that was a problem, but that can happen even at the best paid sites. I think if you give it a chance, you will be very happy here.
  7. Well, here I go again, being the odd man out. So this priest is an idiot and a moron because he believes abortion is murdering babies? That is his belief, and a belief shared by many others. (not nessarily me, I'm just playing devils advocate here) If that is his belief and the law of the church, than he is not an idiot, but a man strong in his belief, as are many good men. It takes a lot of strength and charector to stand up and make a statement like that in the face of such strong opponents. Wether we agree with him or not, credit must be given for his convictions. I also find it disturbing that while this priest is being trashed, everyone conviently has forgotten Obama's own preacher who stood up in front of his own congregation and shouted "God DAMN America."
  8. Wow, what a bummer. Sorry you missed your site name. I was lucky, I got mine some years ago, and was able to get a really good one that is easy to remember, pup4u.com I figured then that I was pretty lucky to get it. Everybody and their dog has a web site and it gets really tough to find a good name. Did you check Thunder echo to see if it's taken? At least it's close.
  9. Things that are drummed into us, especially in our formative childhood years are difficult to shake as we grow older and become adults ourselves. That you recognise that it is causing you problems is a big step down the road to solving them. You have my sympathies. One thing that might help is to remember the old saying, what does not kill us makes us stronger. When your situation changes and you find yourself in happier circumstances you will have a much deeper feeling of satisfaction knowing what it is like at the other end of the spectrum. I wish you the very best.
  10. First thing I want to say is do not let the idiosyncrasies of the Yorkshire Terrier color all of your ideals of the Terrier group. While they are probably the most popular Terrier, Yorkies are probably my least favorite of the group, and the most prone to behavior problems. They can be hardheaded and stubborn as a mule. They are also the most difficult of all the terriers to housebreak. And they can be quite spiteful. And just so stinking cute nobody can resist them. Go figure. First of all, determine the trigger to the dog?s bad behavior. Is it when you come between him and his mistress? You have to look at it from the dog?s point of view, and also remember; dog?s senses are much sharper than humans. Dogs can identify even subtle changes in human's metabolism. I know for a fact certain dogs can judge the level of testosterone in a male human, and will act differently according to that level towards the male human. I had a male Giant Schnauzer once that was fine around woman, young boys, children, old men, and even gay men, but would go into frothing fits if a sexually active male human went near him. You have to identify the trigger to the behavior problem before you can start on proper training to correct the behavior. If he is simply protecting his owner, that is natural and difficult to break the habit of, but it can be done. Just takes time and patience. The dog needs a lot of socialization from other people and needs to learn to accept his owners friends. It just takes a lot of exposure for some dogs to get the hang of it. Some dogs by nature form very strong bonds to a single human and want nothing to do with any other humans. These one person dogs can be impossible to break from this sort of behavior. This tendency is far more common in some breeds than others, but there are individual in any and every breed that can be one-owner dogs. The ability to sense various changes in human metabolism is actually a very good thing about dogs. There are many service dogs that can predict seizures in their owners a short time before the seizure occurs, and allow their owners to get to safety and be prepared for the upcoming episode. I don't think I'd want to see a dog put on medication because he was helping his owner. And dogs have the ability to judge humans on other levels. Crazy as it may sound, years ago I had a German Shepherd that was a better judge of men than I was. I dated this one guy that she just hated. Sure enough, he broke into my house while I was gone one time and robbed me. After that, I started paying a lot more attention to her attitude towards guys I went out with. If she didn't like them I wouldn't go out with them anymore. I found out real quick she was always right. Guys she didn't like were real jerks.
  11. Oh man, that is a huge chunk!!! I didn't think a persons ear canal was even that long, I'm surprised it wasn't sticking out of the side of your head looking like you were growing horns! But it does seem like closing the barn door after the horse has escaped now for going to the doctor. If it isn't bothering you anymore, I would think a doctor visit would not be needed. I would however, make it a point to clean my ears on a more regular basis if I was you.
  12. Ok, I just can't resist this one. I was just reading a post about home remidies on another thread, and when I saw your topic I just remembered the "home remedy" for dry chapped lips........... Spread cow sh_t on your lips for dry chapped lips. It won't heal your lips but it will dang sure stop you from licking them and making them worse!
  13. Well, this is where one must let common sense prevail. Anyone who is diabetic should know better than to take a spoonfull of sugar. If you have a disease like diabetes, you should make it a point to learn all about it that there is to learn. There are lots of home remedies for hick ups. Holding one's breath, a big drink of water, all work too. I just don't see the need to run to the doctor for little piddly things.
  14. Well, this may sound corny, but I am pretty dissapointed that I have never seen a ghost or anything that might possibly been considered one or a spirit or some such thing. I actually believe such things are possible, the show Ghost Whisperer is one of my favorites, and I dearly loved the movie "Almost an Angel" (with the Crocodile Dundee guy) I'd love to get the oppertunity to actually check out this long debated subject. And since I am confessing to being rather odd, I may as well admit that I don't even think it would be scary. I would be to interested/excited to be scared. I just think it would be pretty dog gone cool to experience.
  15. Wow, just saw on the news tonight where they transplanted a new treachea into a woman who's trac was destroyed by tuberculosis. That is just SO cool and should bring a lot of hope to others. The neat thing is that she will not have to worry about rejection or about spending the rest of her life on anti rejection drugs, which in themselves are a big hazzard to many transplant patients. They took a trac from a cadeaver and stripped it of it's own cells, and then treated it with the womans own stem cells they had gotten from her own bone marrow and grown for the procedure. I just think that is so fantastic. I certainly hope she does well.
  16. Gosh, you guys are a bunch of light weights! Ok, last time I was down to 120 all my friends thought I was sick and dying. I did look like a bean pole. You could count my ribs. And I'm only an inch taller than you. While I am not about to divulge my current buldge, let it sufice to say it's a lot more than 135 pounds. I do wish I weighed a lot less, but I've had all this fat for a very long time and it is very attatched to me. It just doesn't want to leave.
  17. LOLOLOL, this topic reminds me of the one we got started on another time about the study they did as to why pregnaunt women don't tip over! Why on earth would somebody even care as to which you could swim faster in? I mean, who is going to want to swim in syurp and under what circumstances would one get the oppertunity to do such a thing? I suspect the reason behind such sillyness it to get grants from the government to study such balderdash.
  18. I was a bit dissapointed here by the fall colors, or should I say lack there of. We just went from green to brown. I really was expecting a great fall color this year, with all the rain we had I thought we would have great color. In recent years it has been so dry we didn't get any color. But while the trees were still mostly green we had our first hard freeze, and theny everything just turned brown. I haven't seen a really pretty fall in a long time. However, I did take a trip to meet some folks with a puppy, and about 100 miles east of here I was shocked at how beautiful the colors on the trees there were. Was glad I got to see some nice color. Fall is just not my favorite season. To me it just means winter is coming, and I hate winter. And the greatly fluxuating tempratures in the fall are really tough on pups. Have to be very observant (even more so than normal) to watch for snotty noses and colds that pups get when you have that wide range of tempratures in just a 24 hour period of time.
  19. Oh, I don't really see it as becoming bad, I kind of wish they would implement a transfer system. It was really fun for the contests to have cool prizes and all the activity we had for the "Trapper of the Year" contest, that generated a lot of funny and interesting posts and gave some incentive to participate. And then there are those times when you just need a little help. Sometimes life gets rather complicated and you just can't post as often as you would like too, with the transfer system you could get a little help from your friends during any hard times that pop up. It's easy to let other things get in the way of posting. And there are computer crashes, and other things that could take you out of the picture maybe long enough to loose your web site, which in my case would be terribly detrimental since that is how I make my living.
  20. Well shoot! Same catagories as last year, and I don't fit into any of them I am still pretty computer illerate, I'm too busy to live here, (even if I do enjoy it here) All I know to talk about is dogs, so I'm not even interesting, I do try to be funny though!
  21. You know, I am really glad that they occasionally come up with some study that says chocolate is good for you. Eases the guilt. Cause you know what? I don't care if it is good for you or not! I am going to eat it. Lots of it! Dark, light, milk, sugar, who cares! I like it all and I will eat it all! Every bite.
  22. Of course it's crazy to have a snake for a pet! I have to say that you know. My livelyhood depends on it. But seriously, we have pets for companionship and to give our lives purpose and meaning. Our pets depend on us for their very survival. Some bigger snakes eat very infrequently, there is no need for frequent interaction with feeding. A snake cannot warm your feet when you are reclining on the couch watching TV. Snakes won't fetch your slippers. You can't teach a snake tricks. Snakes cannot comunicate with humans like a dog. Not many people will want to pet your snake if you take it out for a walk. As a matter of fact, many will cross the street to avoid you if they see you walking down the sidewalk with a snake drooped over your shoulders. When you do take it out, of course, you have to carry it, as they don't keep a colar on worth a hoot. And when was the last time you saw cute costums for snakes you could dress up your snake in for Halloween and Christmas? Get a dog!!! Shameless plug, follow the link to my site for your very own dog!
  23. Holy Moly!!!!! That's almost unbelievable! I have had the adsense ads on my sight for several years now, and I will be lucky if I get my first check from Google by the time I am retirenment age! (so far, that is my entire "savings plan" for my retirenment! LOL You have to have $100 before they will send you any money. I'm not sure I will ever make it.
  24. Well, for small light weight stuff like cards and that sort of thing, I would just use the regular post office, but for bigger, heavier packages, I'd go with UPS. You can get card board boxes free at any store, wrap them in brown paper bags to cover whatever is printed on the box and to put your own mailing lables over. UPS has drop off stores everywhere, you can call their toll free number to get a location closest to you. And if you are a frequent shipper, they will come to you.
  25. Home remedies work pretty good if you get the right ones! Butter on burns is not the best choise anyway. Aloe vera is a far better option. You can use the juice squezed right out of a plant, or keep some of the pure gell handy for those ocassions. (it also works good on sunburn.) Another Aloe vera trick I learned is if you have a really stuffed up and the inside of your nose is all dryed out you can soak some cotton balls in Aloe vera and pack them up in your nose for 5 or 10 minutes and it will really loosen up the congestion. Also, eye infections respond well to drops of Aloe vera. (be sure to use pure aloe juice with no additives for eyes) Aloe vera is something every household shold have on hand.I would think common sense would keep a person from poking around by their eyeballs with a needle, and the same can be said for cutting off warts. Warts, like plants, grow from the roots, which are way down under your skin. Cutting off the top is no more helpfull than cutting your grass in the summer, it will just grow back. There are over the counter products for wart removal. Now, it has frequently been said that I have a big mouth, but even I can't get my hand down my mouth to retrieve a fish bone. I always heard you were supposed to eat white bread to gently push it down without causing any damage. As for cleaning ears, I have used a Q tip to dig around in my ears forever. Always heard about the dangers of compacting the ear wax, but it has never happend to me, so I'm not even going to worry about that one. My ears itch if they get anything in them and it drives me crazy if I don't swab them out.
