  1. For sure. Here are some I personally like: Everest Ultimate (The best, in my opinion) HWInfo32 (Good one as well, lighter) Sandra (The best versions are for buying =\) It's up to you choosing, good luck.
  2. I'm using Miranda for the last 2-3 years, and I'm pretty happy with it. Intensely customizable both in UI and functionality, though it may be VERY painful to setup sometimes, even to power users, due to plugin or file version conflicts, lack of specific support. Takes a look o Google and forum searches to fix up some issues. But man, once it's done... just enjoy it!Used to use Trillian, but it started to get as 'heavy' as MSN Messenger, and wasn't very customizable.Since I no longer access my AIM, ICQ and YM accounts, I disable their dlls and run with only MSN protocol plugin. And it looks so pretty! The only thing I don't like about Miranda is the terrible way you view Message History... For this you better get a nice plugin.
  3. Whoa, thanks for the help people, never thought I'd get so many answers =)It doesn't beep when shutting down. Actually it shuts down so fast it can't even think of beeping =PNow that you said, it really might be a RAM related issue. I'll try replugging the same RAM, and then try replacing it with another one and see what happens.Poor PC let's see how does it do with only 128Mb hehe... Say bye bye to Firefox+Photoshop+Winamp party...After that I'll try reseting my BIOS settings, maybe something isn't like it was supposed to be.
  4. I still prefer to keep my bets on Quantum Mechanics for computer speed. =)The one scientists have right now makes insanely accurate calculations. In some weird way (well this is Quantum Physics after all, so nothing is really normal!) it is more precise when technically 'turned off' (no jokes)...But carbon nanotubes sound sexy
  5. I believe you mean 512Mb by saying 526 mg, right? =) You should check if this new RAM memory you got is compliant with you system motherboard clock. Roughly, this means that for safety your system won't accept memories with different speeds from the original and/or memories with different speeds. This can be sometimes bypassed using some advanced BIOS settings or software, but is often very risky. Do you have any idea of your motherboard/processor and both memories BUS speed? Usually there are plenty programs on Internet that give you full logs about your current system specs. On the other hand you can look this by yourself or ask someone with good computer knowledge. Also, you always can have some dirt on the connectors, or a non-working RAM memory.
  6. I don't consider Zelda and Diablo II really RPG games, for example... More like adventure games with a developed but very linear plot. But I like them a lot, definitely part of my personal history. But for 'TEH PWN' RPGs... I'd say Baldur's Gate series without a doubt. The game has really endless possibilities, amazing story, tons of classes, mods, npcs... It is directly followed by both Fallout and Elder Scrolls series. I personally don't like most 'Japanese-looking' RPGs, though I must say some like Breath of Fire and, in a lesser way, Final Fantasy really got me, so nice they are.
  7. How 'heavy' is this SongBird (I mean CPU and RAM usage during music playback)?1800+ MP3s here =pI'm using an old 17Gb Barracuda just for them =pIf I only could get a DVD burner...
  8. Ok, I've seen this some times before. This is the first approach to the problem, that did work the two times I got this error. Below this solution I've put something from Microsoft's site. You can try both together also to see if it works, I'm not sure. ------------------ Suggested Solution ------------------ -> Open Notepad and type this in: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs]"Description"="Provides the endpoint mapper and other miscellaneous RPC services.""DisplayName"="Remote Procedure Call (RPC)""ErrorControl"=dword:00000001"Group"="COM Infrastructure""ImagePath"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,\74,00,25,00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,73,\00,76,00,63,00,68,00,6f,00,73,00,74,00,20,00,2d,00,6b,00,20,00,72,00,70,00,\63,00,73,00,73,00,00,00"ObjectName"="LocalSystem""Start"=dword:00000002"Type"=dword:00000020"FailureActions"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,00,00,00,\00,02,00,00,00,60,ea,00,00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs\Parameters]"ServiceDll"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,\00,74,00,25,00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,\72,00,70,00,63,00,73,00,73,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,6c,00,00,00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs\Security]"Security"=hex:01,00,14,80,a8,00,00,00,b4,00,00,00,14,00,00,00,30,00,00,00,02,\00,1c,00,01,00,00,00,02,80,14,00,ff,01,0f,00,01,01,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00,\00,00,02,00,78,00,05,00,00,00,00,00,14,00,8d,00,02,00,01,01,00,00,00,00,00,\05,0b,00,00,00,00,00,18,00,ff,01,0f,00,01,02,00,00,00,00,00,05,20,00,00,00,\20,02,00,00,00,00,18,00,8d,00,02,00,01,02,00,00,00,00,00,05,20,00,00,00,23,\02,00,00,00,00,14,00,9d,00,00,00,01,01,00,00,00,00,00,05,04,00,00,00,00,00,\18,00,9d,00,00,00,01,02,00,00,00,00,00,05,20,00,00,00,21,02,00,00,01,01,00,\00,00,00,00,05,12,00,00,00,01,01,00,00,00,00,00,05,12,00,00,00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs\Enum]"0"="Root\\LEGACY_RPCSS\\0000""Count"=dword:00000001"NextInstance"=dword:00000001-> Save it as some .reg file (example: mod.reg) ->Backup your registry*. In case you don't know how: -----> Click "Start", then "Run..." -----> Type in "Regedit" -----> Click "File", then "Export..." -----> Check export range to "All" (bottom of the window) -----> Save as something like "Backup.reg" -> Run the .reg file you saved from Notepad. -> Restart your computer. *To backup the registry just run the .reg file you exported from Regedit. ------------------ Microsoft's Solution ------------------ This is Microsoft's approach, in case the above one didn't work: 1. Click Start, and then click Help and Support. 2. Under Pick a Task, click Use Tools to view your computer information and diagnose problems. 3. In the Tools area, click System Configuration Utility. 4. In the right pane, click Open System Configuration Utility. This opens the System Configuration Utility. 5. Click the Services tab. 6. Make sure all the following services are turned on. To turn on a service, click to select the check box. • Application Layer Gateway Service • Network Connections • Network Location Awareness (NLA) • Plug and Play • Remote Access Auto Connection Manager • Remote Access Connection Manager • Remote Procedure Call (RPC) • Telephony 7. Click OK, and then click Restart. ------------------ End of Solutions ------------------ I hope this helps you, seriously. As I said already, the first one did work for me, but you can try the second one at will.
  9. C:\> del (filename) is still indeed an evil command... But the forgotten C:\>deltree (folder name) was my preferred one for .bat files.
  10. I'm running Windows XP PRO Enterprise in US English PC Specs.: Pentium 4 - 2.8GHz 512Mb DDR Ram (No idea of brand) Seagate 80Gb - 2 Partitions (C: - 30Gb Windows Install) + (D: - 50Gb Storage) Geforce2 MX 100/200 64Mb Common peripherals, like PS2 Optical mouse and Multimedia keyboard, USB Creative labs webcam, Epson printer... Here in Brazil we use 110V voltage, and my Power supply is 110-127V 200W. Today I'm running it for hours and had no power down (yet). Am I on drugs or is there a possibility of accessing some bad clusters on my HD for example, be causing the shutdown? Because it usually happens when I'm running several programs that run using my D: partition, like Winamp and musics, Photoshop files, games. Today I kept computer use basically on C: partition (Firefox, IM program, downloaded files, System files) and didn't happen. Would that be possible? I mean, damaged clusters would have the power to shut a computer down suddenly? Thanks anyway for the interest, xboxrulz.
  11. This is so true... As a web developer, I had *terrible* experiences with IE, and that's been like years and years ago. I did use Netscape until version 4.7, then IE 5, then Opera, and I'm into Firefox since version 1. I'm running version 2.0 for some time and it's much faster, but sometimes memory hog is still an issue. Also I had to update some extensions to make them run in Firefox 2. Opera 9 is pretty good, but some (very) little annoyances (like how it Ctrl+tabs for example) and the lack of extensions made me keep Firefox as primary Browser, tough I still have to test sites in all three for better compatibility (IEView rocks). Anyway testing things in IE was painful since the beginning. Table (hehe yeah those times tables ruled the galaxy) borders... argh! Then I started to use CSS when it first began... nothing really worked ok. I hope IE 7 gets any better in web standards compliance, because making different sites (or at least styles, scripts or graphics) for different browsers is something we had a decade ago...
  12. nightfox, would you have the link to it, or at least it's name?
  13. Yes, that's true. You can also (just in case you wish to keep the Recycle Bin step for safety) hold Shift before pressing Delete key or clicking Delete in the menu. That'll ask you if you wish to remove the file, without going to the Recycle Bin.
  14. I'm laughing to death with those haha! What means that if I die... well the topic creator will have a nice time talking to the judge... you know, lawsuits... Too bad I won't be alive to make use of the money!
  15. Whoa, looks very interesting!Quite tempting as Hercco just said. And using Flash (7.0 I believe), other than Java applets or other embeds makes it easy to set up and very accessible to site visitors. I suppose I'll give this a shot once I get a running site. Too bad right now you can't customize it's look, but they say in some time this might be available.
  16. For some 'strange' reason Microsoft didn't want to team up with Google (which took the initiative to offer a linked network) when they got their messaging program up. Basically they just want to get the Yahoo users with a theoretically better and better-looking messenger. They wouldn't be as successful if they chose to do the same with AIM/ICQ users, for example, or even some open-sourced networks, where you can choose from lots of messaging programs (often much better then MSN, AIM, etc). Dreaming is for free, so it wouldn't be that terrible (someday) having just to choose a program, because all networks are fully linked up. That day I'd finally getting weird messages from MSN in Miranda... yeah, for sure.
  17. My computer has been acting in a weird way for some time, and I don't remember doing anything that could cause this hardware-wise. I'll try to describe it:After some time powered on, the system suddenly *poof* shuts down in a harsh way. I press the Power button but it doesn't turn on. Then, I remove the power cable from it's back, wait for some hour(s) and turn it on ok, until it turns off again. I'd risk also to say that the 'uptime' I get after a shutdown is somehow proportional to the time I left the power cable off it.Some would say it's overheating, but I don't think so, since it has a nice cooling and it didn't change from some time to now. I (just wonder, no clue) think it could be some voltage issue, some hard disk problem, power cable issue, possibly some wire overheating (!?!), maybe too many devices connected to the power socket. Could his be caused by any BIOS configuration? By the way, it's running with no memory or processor overclock.Someone people give me a light, or suggest some expert forums I could post my issue on.Until the next shutdown, see you.
  18. Ctrl+F5 also works for reloading the page and ignore the cache content. If I'm not mistaken it works for IE as well.
  19. And you guys must also consider that the currency is different here in Brazil (Reais), which is roughly nowadays ~R$ 2,10 per 1 USD. So it must have been a hell of a meal... or they must have spent already on other services, like hostel, taxi, etc, a more reasonable theory. Do you guys have any idea of what was the restaurant's name? I might know it (it doesn't mean I can have a meal there, sure).
  20. Please noooooooooooo!Auto-scrappers keep flooding my scrapbook every week, if not every day! This is the kind of tool that in the right hands is really useful, but otherwise... viva la spam! But seriously people... think like twice... or better, think twice two times, before using this kind of (EVIL) (SPAM) tool.
  21. The community on Orkut is pretty new, only 24 members up to now. Hehehe I'd never realize that a community called Xisto Corporation would have anything related to Xisto or Xisto without a little research. What are we supposed to discuss there, anyway? Forums are much more pleasant than Orkut. =)
  22. I did use Lightwave and Blender, but currently my darling is 3dsMax. No particular reasons, it's just that after some time using it to preview my game skins I got used to it, therefore the program was more friendly to start learning to model (well sort of...). Shouldn't be Cinema4D on this list? I don't understand exactly what you mean, Hatchman33... wouldn't be both as equally as powerful? Or you mean that you woudn't be able to do it?
  23. One amazing tool I've found lately (and just posted in this same forum in another thread, I just hope people don't think I'm advertising it...) lies HERE (English, v2.0). It has many options, like how many color groups, easy-to-use interface, preview of how do the color scheme would look to people with limited color vision, among other things. Up to now it's the best in my personal opinion. Try it out people, and you wont regret =)
  24. I'm trying to simulate a key press in an external program (actually a game).Using the keybd_event does work for regular Windows programs (like Notepad, for example), but not for the game. I suppose this happens because it uses DirectX libraries, and also this simulation provided by keybd_event isn't, let's say, low-level enough. Would someone be able to help me on this?I'm using currently Delphi (Pascal), but if needed I suppose I can manage to apply some assembly code or something. Thanks in advance.
  25. Really ingenious...I used to love Javascript and tables, but nowadays CSS is just king! Debugging JS code was really painful, with 'super' self-explanatory messages. Tables just added lots and lots of Kb to each page file size, and would break easily with a bigger image or word. Too bad I don't have the enough time to really master CSS.But is there any big advantage on having one huge image? Or is this just for ease of use and less files to care about? I suppose it could take the overall file size down, but multiple smaller images load faster due to various browser connections with the web server, don't they? Also, how does this behave with animated GIFs (hehehe animated gif buttons are really old school)? Whoa, so many questions. Time to stop. =p
