First, I start up Google Talk to see if I have any new mail. Then, I open up my Firefox and log into Gmail regardless if I have anything new in the inbox. Then I read my Google Alerts that I get in the mail everyday, and then read the "Newgrounds top 5" mail to check out the newest flashes on the net. After that, I check out Xisto (but not anymore, though, because school has become much more time-consuming than before). Finally, if I still have time, I work on whatever project I'm working on at that moment.

Oh no... I just had some free time and thought I'd check the forums... But it's down for me too. Hope it'll go back up soon.

Hmm... It doesn't work on my XP. When I enter alt+255, a "y" with an umlaut (two dots) on top of it shows up. Definitely not an empty space. Maybe I have installed some special characters that US users don't usually install?

How are you running Vista on your computer? Are you dual-booting, emulating, etc.?If you're dual-booting, and if your vista installation can access your XP drive, you should be able to execute the exe files correctly. However, Vista might have some security features that prevent you from doing that.I don't know anything about emulation, so I don't have any suggestions if you're emulating.

Haha, I have the fastest connection. But of course, it depends on what server I'm testing on (that's the purpose of the site). I did another test with the server at Seattle, and got 1530 download. Strangely, the upload stayed at 400...

Server Behind Router Works fine to others, but not internally
szupie replied to szupie's topic in Computer Networks
Oh, thanks, nightfox! I could never have gotten to that page with Google... I guess that's what Xisto is for! In case the site goes down in the future, all you have to do is edit the hosts file, which is located at c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts for Windows (or System Folder for Mac). Add "YourLocalIPAddress YourDomainName" without quotes. I've tried doing "MyLocalIPAddress MyPublicIPAddress", but I guess the second part couldn't be an IP address. Here's the reason for my problem: Yeah, I can see it fine when I try to see it using a computer outside my network, I just couldn't do that within the network. That was the weird thing. Yeah, I know that, but I'm lazy and I wanted to access the pages using the hyperlinks. It's an equivalent exchange for the danger I've put myself into. Check out my new index page now. It's now officially the coolest home page on the whole Internet (on Guinness World Records). Yes, it's a fake link. -
Server Behind Router Works fine to others, but not internally

1. I've disabled the Windows Firewall on the computer because it's really annoying at times.2. Oh, right, I forgot about doing that. OK, now I've solved the problem about accessing the server on the local network.3. DMZ... Isn't that the option that puts the computer outside of the router? The warning on the settings page looked pretty scary to me, so I left the setting at default.4. I'm running miniApache on Windows.Since you're an expert here, vujsa, let's try to solve the problem about why we can't access the server by its public IP. Even though the local IP works, I still want to know what my problem is.P.S. I just tried the DMZ settings and pointed it to this computer. It didn't work. -
I have an Apache server set up on my computer so that I can test my scripts without uploading them. The computer connects to the Internet through a wireless router. I can access my server fine by going to "localhost" (of course), but when I try to access it on any computer in the network by going to my modem's IP, my router's setup page shows up. However, this problem does not exist when I do it from a computer outside the network. I have tried forwarding Inbound port 80 to this computer, but it still doesn't work. I want to see the server's page using other computers behind the same router, so simply using localhost isn't an option for me.So does anyone know why this problem exists?

It's easy to package a Firefox extension on Windows after you have all the files ready: just zip the files up with WinZip, and change the file extension to xpi. But on a Mac, you can't just change the file extension and expect the file type to change also. When I tried to drag a zipped file with the xpi file extension into Firefox, it asked me if I wanted to download the file, instead of trying to install the file. How am I supposed to package the extension, then? Do I have to switch to a Windows computer everytime I want to do so (Not that it happens often)? Is keeping the extension in the unpacked form in a special folder on my computer my only other option? I can't seem to find any references to this in the manuals for developers.

Hmm, are you using a router? If you are, trying accessing the router's configuration page (by typing in 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1, depending on the router you use) and enable Port Forwarding for the applications you want to use. Outlook Express uses port 25 for outbound and port 110 for inbound. The ports for chatting differs between different clients, but for Ident for IRC, you need to open port 113 for inbound and outbound. You have to forward the port to one of the computers on your network (192.168.x.[computer number]).

I'm not entirely sure, but I think this solution should work: in Settings > Forwarding and POP, select "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on" in the POP Download section. Try it and see if it works.

How To Let Google See My Website Can someone explain me this?
szupie replied to luizzeross's topic in General Discussion
META tags lets Google (and other search engines) know what your site is about. If they match what people are searching for, your site would be placed higher. Also, I think that sites with META tags have a higher PageRank than sites without them, so that places your site even higher on the list. -
I'm guessing that when you selected the Crop tool, you had been using a proportional mode rather than the normal mode. I don't have Photoshop 6, so I can't tell you where exactly you can change this. But when you have Crop selected, you should see a toolbar where you can enter a value Height and Width, and also Resolution. If there are some values entered in Height and Width, Photoshop will only crop the image at proportions of the dimensions you have given. Delete those values and you should be able to crop normally without restraints.

I suppose he meant that when you sign up for AdSense to display advertisements for your site on Google, Google will index you faster. There's another way to get indexed by Google. Google Sitemaps makes it easier for Google to index your site, and I presume that it'll also make you appear on the search engine faster. However, if your pages are just for your own testing purposes and not for others, why would you need them to appear on Google? -
I can't find it either. But I assume that it is located in the Edit Profile Information section. ms^e, maybe this function is available only to admins, because even mods can't do this.

Wow, your layout is completely broken in Firefox. None of the top corner images are showing up, and the #container div has shrunk up to the top of the page. There are only 3 changes you need to make to your page to fix it: First, let's take care of the ugliest problem: The shriveled up #container. Since both the #content and #sidebar are floating, they don't take up any space inside the container. The container doesn't know what the actual height of those 2 divs, so you need to create a clearer div. A clearer div is located right after those 2 divs and before the container. It can tell where those 2 divs end, and it pushes the bottom of the container down. So, what you need to do is to add <div id="clearer"> </div> right after </div> <!-- /sidebar --> (Yes, include the ). Then, in the CSS codes, add the following code so that #clearer is pushed down by its preceding elements. #clearer { margin: 0; padding: 0; height: 0; clear: both;}The most important rule there is clear: both;. It's the line that makes the whole thing work. The first 3 lines are just for aesthetic reasons -- i.e., to make it take up as little space as possible. OK, now the white background is fixed, but the topcorners are still messed up! This is actually an easy thing to fix. The problem is that your #containertop and #sidebartitle divs are too small, therefore we don't get to see the background picture. All you have to do is add some padding to it, and it'll show up! In the CSS code for both your #containertop and #sidebartitle, add this line: padding: 10px 0 0 0;I count that as 2 changes. I've tested it out in Firefox, and it looks just like it does in Internet Explorer. It also works on Opera.

If it's true, I don't think it's going to be successful. Look at the similar products that Google has released: Froogle and Google Video. I haven't heard anyone say "Look! I got this from Froogle!", and it seems to have disappeared from the Internet shortly after its release. Google's video directory is, in my opinion, the most messy of all Google products. It is nowhere near YouTube's directory. However, I thought that Google's embedded Flash video player was better than YouTube's player. And since Google had some success in Google Talk and Desktop, I think that it's music player (if it's going to release one) will be quite successful. I doubt it'll be better than Winamp, though.

There was also another new feature in this version. Well, actually, I'm not really sure whether it's a new thing or I just haven't noticed it before. It's the ruler tool, accessible from the new (again, not sure if it's new) toolbar. If you want to know the area of some building or your new house and you can't find the information online, you can use the ruler tool to measure out all the details you want. That's the only practical use for Google Earth that I can think of. If you want to find directions, you can simply use Google Maps instead. There are some nice features in Google Earth Plus and Pro for businesses, so I think Google Earth (Free) is just a product to attract people to buy the other versions.
-
Yeah, I like the new controls much better too. Google Earth's interface didn't look like a Google product before, with all the ugly gray buttons. It's not perfect yet, but it's much better. When I learned about this release, most of the articles had mentioned its new 3d textured buildings as the most significant update. It's weird that none of you mentioned that here. Anyway, although the new textured buildings look really cool in the screenshots (on Google Earth's hompage), when I downloaded the new version, I found that I have to download seperate KML files in order to see them. I was really disappointed in that. They should consider integrating a default set of textured buildings into Google Earth (I think many models of buildings have already been made by SketchUp users). I haven't been able to find such building packs, and it's such a hassle to have to manually find models of the buildings and download them one by one.

MSN "Thank You For Using" And Sharing AN MSN virus ?
szupie replied to yordan's topic in Security issues & Exploits
I found 2 sites that seem to be relating to this. The first one is probably the German site you've mentioned, at http://www.wer-weiss-was.de/t/neuer-virus-bei-msn/3233136. The second one is also in a foreign language, but it's not one that Google or Babelfish could translate. Anyway, the site is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. I don't know how this can help you, but maybe some of the Xisto members who understand the language might notice this topic and help out? But I wonder why this English-speaking virus has only been noted by people in other countries. I'm a bit confused about your situation here: Did you hear it from your friend, or did you encounter this virus yourself? And are you talking about MSN Messenger? What did you mean by "new window" (what kind of window)? Maybe your friend (or you) downloaded a fake copy of MSN Messenger from a virus site. Tell your friend (or yourself ) to unistall the current copy of Messenger and then try downloading it directly from the Microsoft site and see if the virus symptoms are still there... -
History Repeating A cartoon strip I saw in a magazine
szupie replied to iGuest's topic in General Discussion
That would be like the beginning of The Matrix, where you can see each letter coming up on Neo's screen while Trinity is typing. But I don't see how it's better than real-time SMS messages. Actually, when you talked about Morse code on the phone, I actually thought it as just an input language for English, like the ChangJie input or PingYin input for Chinese. I assumed that the phone would automatically change it to English characters as you type them, much like a phone's keyboard would. -

History Repeating A cartoon strip I saw in a magazine

I've heard that some people are so skilled at phone-typing that they can type over 60 wpm. I don't know how fast Morse code can be typed, but I guess that if you practice it for a long time, you should be able to type faster than phone-typers, since it's easier to press a big bar repeatedly than to locate those tiny keys and press them. But are there any codes for punctuation in Morse code? Maybe there are in newer versions...
