Google's released 4 new search related products as mentioned in this article in InformationWeek. Out of these I already use Google Desktop - am downloading the 4th version now and giving it a shot. I checked out the Google Trends thingy: https://www.google.com/trends/ - it's more of a research oriented tool. Instead of performing searches - it takes your keywords and shows you a city/region/language wise charts of searches performed priorly with the same keywords.. Pretty cool tool actually I haven't checked out the other ones yet.. more detailed review later..

Free Domain Registration!
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to ccb_v2's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Lol.. it wouldn't load for me either. Firefox says the same to me - Site Not Found.I thought it could be a routing problem - so I tried using external web-proxies and even Google Translator to load the page. It simply refused to resolve - and thus says a fat lot about the reliability of the site. I mean where would this guy get the money to pay for so many free domains ?? 25 posts is hardly anything - and if this site was even working, he'd have a million people flooding in and making 25 posts. Dude - it's just not economically viable.. am telling you. -
Apache Query: Requirements To Run Own Web-Server?
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to sandeep1405241520's topic in Software
Yes - you'll need a computer that runs 24/7. Throw in a pretty decent speed internet link along with that, else once your site starts getting crowded you might have problems. This computer needs to be running Apache on Windows or Linux (preferrably Linux). For this you'll need to purchase a domain name from a registrar service like GoDaddy.Com. But aside from that, this domain name should be able to point to your web-servers IP address. For this you need to run a DNS (Domain Name Services) server. Think of this like a telephone directory. People access your site by your domain name. Your domain name refers to the DNS (Telephone Directory) to find out your Phone Number (IP Address) and calls up that machine. If you're using an ADSL link - most likely you won't have a fixed IP. For this service to function properly you need a fixed IP - coz thinking metaphorically, your phone number should remain constant in order for people to reach you correctly every time. However, acquiring a fixed IP costs $$$ - so you can resort to a Dynamic Domain service such as no-ip.com or dyn-dns.com, which allows you to hook up your domain name to a non-static IP. You simply run a small client program on your web-server, which updates your new IP at the dynamic dns service's server everytime the IP changes. That way, you domain always points to your latest IP. It's true that no system is completely hack-proof - but Linux stands a better chance at withstanding hacking attempts. You can configure linux in such a way that it runs only the required services - i.e. HTTPD (Web-server) in your case. That way you can minimize the open ports - which are usually exploited to break into your system. Now there's this other problem for you too - you are on a LAN in your college. Your machine will have a local LAN IP - which the outside world cannot see. When you connect to the internet or someone tries to connect back to you - they see the main IP of your college's internet routing server. You need to contact your System Administrator and tell him to allow NAT (Network Address Translation) routing to your own computer, so that any requests coming to your domain should be automatically forwarded to your machine. Else such requests will either lead straight to your college web-site (if it has one).. or else get blocked at the first router it meets in an inbound path to your network. -
Ahaa I see techocian's submission has been accepted - OpaQue dropped by sometime and updated the logo. So no more entries please - unless you think you can come up with some cooler one We could always take a look and consider.. As for myself - I'd say this rounded edged font looks way cooler that any straight-angled fonts (pardon me - coz I've pretty naive when it comes to graphics design terminology). As for the length of the banner - there isn't any fixed length. See the board changes width depending on your screen resolution, i.e. it uses a variable-width styling sheet. That's why there's no single graphics (except the logo) in the header frame. What it does instead is use a very thin slice of that gradient graphic and then use the background-repeat tag of CSS to repeat the same all along the length (whatever the length might be).. techocian: PM me with whatever credits you deem good for the logo..

Quick Virus Question
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Yep - if the AV has the virus in quarantine, it totally denies any kind of access to it. Or at least it "should". I cannot speak for every AV out there in the market - but yeah some of them are pretty callous in that respect.. and somehow they manage to quarantine and isolate the file after it has been infected.. which means the worm has already managed to write itself to the registry. Now these worms go into a file-infecting - registry writing cycle. You block one file, they jump to another and write itself to the registry again pointing to the new file.. The trick is catching it before it manages to infect any critical file.. or right when it's first entering your system.. am happy to say that my own AV - BitDefender does a damned good job of it Never had a single problem with it. -

WARNING: To all members While browsing the forums, you might face a strange pop-up asking you to download a .wmv file. DO NOT download and/or try to play this. The pop-up looks somewhat like this (provided by Dha: I believe this is being spread through one of the Ads displayed at Asta. Some guy has this worm embedded in his ads - that's the only logical explanation I can find.. Different anti-virus might identify it with different names - but essentially, it's a variant of the following worm. Most likely it's coming from an ad of taalkzforum.com. yes I confirmed it by visitng their page. If you visit taalkzforum you get flooded with this pop-up. If you inspect the forum page, you'll see an iframe containing the following code: <iframe src="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; width=0 height=0></iframe> When the forum page loads, it calls their URL to show in that iframe and naturally their site starts sending you this worm. For a realtime report on how this worm is spreading and how many systems it has infected, check this:Real-time Virus Reporting - Last 24 hours Nothing to be really scared of - as long as you donot execute/try to play that file. If you click cancel you won't be infected and can carry on browsing the forums normally. I'm trying to get in touch with OpaQue and get this ad blocked ASAP.

This method has been shown in Vedic maths as well as the Trachtenberg Speed System of Basic Mathematics - which was devised by the late Professor Jakow Trachtenberg while he was captive in one of the concentration camps of Hilter in Germany. In order to maintain his sanity inside the camp, he started fiddling around with digits and gradually this new concept of ultra-high-speed mental calculations took shape. This is a highly established technique and during public demonstrations, have been very effectively utilized by little kids to multiply massive figures of 10 digits by 11 digits just under a short few minutes. I have his book named the same - and it covers all aspects of Arithmatics, i.e. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division.. There's a software out too to teach you the same.. British hacker Gary McKinnon might be facing a 70 years jail sentence alongwith a damage compensation fine of $1.75 million, if convicted. Gary has been charged with the "biggest military Hack of all time." Apparently, he broke into the US Military computers and jammed up their defense systems in the wake of the Sept. 11th attack. Gary went by the nickname of Solo and has broken into a wide-range of military systems (Government figures estimate 97 computers) - including Pentagon, U.S. army, navy and NASA systems - causing $700,000 worth of damage. Gary admits to having broken into these systems - but denies that he had any malintent. According to him, he's "just an ordinary computer nerd who wanted to find out whether UFOs and aliens existed." That was his whole point of illegally accessing these systems. US wants him to be extradited so they can put him up on trial at homeground and currently negotiations are on with UK to get him deported. Gary's lawyers have been putting up a strong fight against the extradition saying that he runs the risk of not standing a fair trail in US. Read the full story at: InformationWeek

Group Icon Not Seen
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in General Discussion
The earlier ones were Moonwitch's doings.. Now only if I could find her.. and no I never had a backup, coz I didn't upload them in the first place.. When this board got upgraded to IPB 2.1.4 a lot of old stuff vanished. Anyway, if you see moonwitch around, just grab her tight and dont let her go -
Not bad - but as a die-hard Linux guy, when it comes to all things related to network services.. I'd never trust it for even a second, coz it runs on Windows 2003. It might be the host of your choice though - since you seem to be in eternal love with Windows... And oh, there's more to that.. I gave their site a trial registration. First and foremost.. very poorly designed activation page. Upon registration, it sent me this activation email. When I clicked on that - it took me to this entirely blank page - with a short line right in the center saying , Your account has been activated .. That was about it.. no links nothing.. none that I could use to get back to the main page and login. Also I couldn't find any option of Shell login - which is a real pain in the wrong place if you ask me. Ganesh.. Look before you leap .. that's all i gotta say..

Hey guys - remember the Ambience Skin we had for Asta for a good while? That had a real sexy and slick Logo.. That skins isn't supported anymore - while you can still select it using the skin selector at the bottom of the page, the skin hasn't been updated properly and hence it's going to work only for the front forum page. For every other page, it'll produce some fatal error and give out. Anyway, my point is - can any of your graphics gurus, make that old logo blend into the IPB default skin here - so we can get rid of this cheap-*bottom* logo and replace it with that one?? If you want credits for that - it isn't a problem.. just quote your amount within reasonable limits... Here's the original logo: Or you can get to it and the overall earlier page design by selection Ambience skin from the skin selector right at the bottom of the page. Post back here if you'e interested. Also.. feel free to shift around the color scheme if you feel that's needed to make it look better with the default skin we've got now.. Regards, m^e

Group Icon Not Seen
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in General Discussion
Naah.. the group icons are really gone.. We need to reinstall them... i think installation of the new board wiped the old directory out - which contained those group icons.. -
Yep - right.. the lenses that support that kind of apperture are titled the ED series... for Nikon and almost for all other brands universally. They're so expensive coz they have to have a special arrangement of expensive lenses to capture objects utilizing such a large apperture and yet maintain as much clarity as possible ..

Calvin - I dunno much about using VBScript, but you might want to take a look at this site: https://www.daniweb.com/programming/software-development/threads/20678/i-want-to-manipulate-the-registry-key-values-through-a-vb-net-application This has code samples and describes how to loop through a bunch of values under a particular registry key. This might help you come up with a routine that does your job.. Regards, m^e

Choosing Best Free Hosting Free Hosting
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to asimrsiddiqui's topic in Software
Our very own host meets each and every of your criteria plus more. But our hosting isn't really FREE in the correct sense - as in you pay for it by maintaining a steady rate of posts on our forums. A little bit of your time every week - that's the price you pay. We've several such services under our ring (Xisto Corporation). Xisto is one of them - but your posts need to be as related to computing as possible and very informative and fact-filled, without beind SPAMs. On the other hand, our sister site Xisto.Com deals with the lighter side of life. Their forums are much easier to post to and thus maintain your hosting credits. They offer exactly same hosting plans as us. Your third option is Xisto.Net - where you get less features, but you don't need to post anywhere. That one is AD Supported - so an ad will be displayed on your site. Take your pick -
According to recent news on Wired.Com, Jeanson James Ancheta a 21 year old hacker was sentenced to almost 5 years behind the bars in federal prison. Apparently he infected well over 400,000 system belonging to China Lake Naval Air Facility and the Defense Information System Agency headquartered in Falls Church, Va and used them to setup a massive botnet which he could lease out to third parties to use for mass spamming and further hacking. He seems to have bagged a pretty sizable profit from his widespread activities over 2004-05. The estimated figure is well over $107,000. Full Story: Wired.Com

The something1.something2 days is the number of days your hosting account can stay alive, without you posting any further. Something1 - stands for the integral part of the day - i.e. the number of WHOLE days (24hours) you've got left Something2 - is the fractional amount left for the current day If it shows something like 21.5 days - it means you've got 21 whole days left and a .5 part of a day more - which mean 21 and half days. The fractional part after the decimal point gets calculated in realtime and the figure keeps decreasing everytime you reload the page.

Re: How Can I Play World Of Warcraft For Free ?, Online
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to Droppin's topic in Computer Gaming
It's not just about being vocal about an admin - coz that is still OK. Admins are only humans and prone to errors as well. But when one acuses and abuses - one HAS TO HAVE A VALID REASON. This guy simpy wanted to go ahead and take out his frustration - so he did it. I have a feeling, this has got nothing to do with what Moonwitch said.. He's in all probablity one of those bloody worthless idiots who came and tried to get hosting by mass spamming - and then got his butt nicely kicked by Moonwitch. This is his way of getting back at her and releasing his frustration... GOD, where do there mega-idiots come from ??? Errrm.. don't mean to be rude.. but IF I COULD GET MY HANDS ON HIM, I'D SHOVE HIM RIGHT BACK INTO THE PLACE HE CAME OUT FROM
