Are We Real? Please read before laughing :P
adriantc replied to MiniDawg's topic in Science and Technology
Well I don't think there is any way anybody can proove that we are or we aren't real... We could very well be in the Metrix right now and the world we live in a mere illusion. I guess once will know our brains and the way they work better we can all fake any sensation we want. What we see, hear, smell, fell every day are only small electrical impulses coming from our eyes, hands... Once we will advance enought and understand this impulses and how they work it will be very easy to duplicate them and connect our brain directly to a machine. The question is not if it will happen, but when it will happen? My guess is well within 100-150 years... That is of course menkind survives 100 or 150 years more 'thanks' to other bigger problems we have... Besides as someone said even if our existence is in some sort of Matrix, we are still real bodies.... or not?!? I may have mentioned this in one of my other posts, but I saw a movie once called "The 13th floor" (or something like that). The idea of the movie is that people create a virtual world inside a computer and their plug in into that world. But at the end of the movie they discover their own world was only a computer generated world... A virtual world, in a virtual world, ... I should correct you with that... now we are insigificant! But in a million years (if, and that is a big if, we survive) we might have a technology to change anything we want... It has been prooven countless times that nothing is impossible when it comes to technology if you give it enought time to progress. Besides for now destroying an asteroid could have an impact on the way the Universe evolves. The Universe is so vast that there is a chance that even by doing something rather small it will have a huge impact in the grand picture. -
Wireless Network Share Files And Printing How to setup it???
adriantc replied to adriantc's topic in Computer Networks
It seems the extra copy of my desktop has gone by itself... I really don't understand why it hasn't gone when it couldn't detect it. Anyway thats a typical thing for Microsoft software. Well as for my network everything works great right now file and printer sharing! Thanks for helping me! -
Wireless Network Share Files And Printing How to setup it???
adriantc replied to adriantc's topic in Computer Networks
I made the network... everything works fine.... the printer also. But I do have a small problem... In fact I made my problem... In my enourmous stupidity I decided to change the name of desktop so I had to add the desktop to the network again. Basicly I have 3 computers to the network now and there should only be two. There is no delete option or anything so how do I delete the extra computer? (with the printer there was a delete option so I cleaned the other printer) Here is screenshot so you better understand the problem: -
I was dreaming for months of making my good old internet connection into an wireless one. So now that I finished highschool and I'm a fresh student I thought I should make that dream a reality. So I brought a MSI wireless kit (router+wireless usb).Well when I decided to go for wireless internet I was afraid of the ruter settings. Since this is my first network I was afraid it would take ages to setup. However connecting to the internet was very easy... Just some modifications in the ruters settings so I can protect my connection (WPA2 mixed) and Internet was good to go. However now that I have internet almoust in my entire hourse I want more... I want a network between my two computers (a laptop and a desktop connected to the usb... later I think I will swich the desktop to an old fashioned wired connection). Basicly I want to be able to transfer files betwwen computers and share my Lexmark printer. On a normal wired connection that would be resonably eays, but how do I do it on a wireless connection. Please be as specific as possible... step by step!10x a lot,

The type of society depends very much on their needs. Nomadic tribes were matriarchal because man used to go hunting so women were left home for some time. More the point man took a greater risk and since the female part is far more important for his species survival, since a small amount of females can give birth to a lot of individuals, but a large amount of males and a small amount of females can't give birth to more individuals. So basically in a nomadic society females are far more important than males. That's why women were in charge, because without them the species would have died. But in today's world the species survival is no longer at stake. So women aren't as important as to be. Man don't go any longer to hunt... In other words the situation in family took a right turn. Man has always been physically more powerful than women so it was only logical for him to rule the family. It is very hard for me to imagine equality between genders. First of all because there are very big differences physical and psychical. I fail to see a family with no ruler simply because every society, including the family needs to be lead by someone. Equality would mean that there would be no one in charge of the family. That is impossible... So equality between genders is only a dream, something that cannot be done. It would require perfect morality and that cannot ever be achieved.

50 years ago it was science fiction, 30 years ago it was a mere theory, 10 years ago we started to worry and today we feel threatened. Now global warming is on everybody's lips! What you are going to read is a very pessimistic view of our future...Much of Europe has been hit by a terrible heat wave. England has suffered some terrible floods... Even though we knew for some time about global warming nobody expected to change our lives so soon. After a few days with temperatures over 40C, yesterday I've seen the worst thunderstorm in my entire life (not very long since I'm only 19)... a few trees were taken down by the wind, a few windows were shattered, a kid got injured, but for the first time in my life I was scared!Oil will run out in about 40 years. But before then it will be too late, much too late, we may have already passed the no return point. In any case mankind is going to reach a dead end very very soon! I'm sure me or my children are going to see the end of this century. Nature doesn't seem to cope with six billion and it tends to balance things up.I want to see what do you think, will mankind survive and if so for how long... And if you're an optimistic what do you think we can do to stop global warming and still maintain our moderne lifestyle.

I will help you as much as I can since I'm not an expert in Delphi. Everything I know it's self taught, with a few exceptions of course. It would be better if you post the source code here. Don't forget to use quote because simply pasting it would get you an warning... Hope I can help you...Or post a link to the source code...PS: the web site you provided redirects to cjb!

What I don't think that using so small amounts of water would generate any noticeable electrical current. Rivers do provide enough power, but not everyone has a river in his backyard. The solution would be wind power combined with other alternate power sources like wave power. It's pretty obvious to everyone that mankind cannot continue to burn fossil fuels for its electrical power. Still as I have mentioned in other posts I don't believe we can change that in due time. It would be more profitable for every one if mankind would be more efficient... Using less electrical power is much better than doing everything we can to abandon our old lifestyle.

I think the Internet has gone a long way from when it was built. it's pretty hard for me to believe that the Internet is going to crash sooner or later, or even have an overload. I know the Internet has grown a lot but since it hasn't any central systems that it can't simply crash. Not to mention the fact that the Internet has a huge advertisement potential. You were talking about the bandwidth requirements of the Internet, but you have to understand that the Internet doesn't only consume but also provides profit for certain people. You have to see the Internet as a gold mine, and unexplored goldmine. Once they fully understand the power of the Internet they will make full profit out of it. That is only a matter of time!I think that with time bandwidth cost will reduce greatly this new technologies like fiber optic cables. I can only imagine what would happen if the internet to fall... The world is so dependent on the Internet that a crush would mean a great deal not necessarily financially but also socially! I have to admit that I am somewhat a computer and Internet addict... Losing the Internet would require me to change the whole lifestyle!I would be more afraid of global warming and the greenhouse effect then the Internet crashing... :-)

Wireless Electricity tranfer electricity without wires
adriantc replied to Reaper's topic in Science and Technology
I once heard scientists where planning to install a base on the moon to collect the sunlight... since the moon has no spin of it's own putting a power plant on the lighted side of the moon would generate huge amounts of electricity. They even proposed to cover the entire lighted surface of te moon with solar panels. Other even more futuristic ideas include covering the whole sun with a shell made of solar panels (or something similar) so collecting the entire energy that sun produces. Only a few hours would be enough to power mankind for thousands of years. What is really interesting is the way they plan to send this huge amounts of electricity back to earth. They plan on using some kind of laser bean to send the power for where it is produced back to the place where is needed.Returning to reality... we are sending "wireless electricity", but not in the amounts we need to power a household. For example, in the countryside where my grandparents live there is a really huge radio antenna. The signal the antenna sends covers a big part of my country. That's why the signal is extremely strong... So strong that a few miles away from the antenna with a simple wire you receive not only radio waves, but electricity. Enough electricity to power a radio or a normal light bulb. But that proves it is possible to have "wireless electricity". -
One Of The World Biggest Spammers Going To Jail
adriantc replied to Saint_Michael's topic in General Discussion
I salute the courts decision although I don't know if it will have any influence on the amount of spam we receive every day. I'he heard that over 80% of all emails are spam, unwanted emails.I don't think that stoping one spammer can reduce thu number of spam.If I don't clean my inbox for a week I have around 1000 spam emails. I made the imprudence of pasting the support email on my website and now I receive lots and lots of spam. Every 2 months I receive a waring email saying my inbox is full of spam.As more and more people get access to internet spam will also grow. Still this was an important decision because it was the first. Now other courts can do the same and maybe, just maybe, spam can be at least controled if not reduced. -
Well I don't have a trained ear, but from what I could hear the two songs sounded very similar... Eurovision is no longer what it used to be... ABBA once won the Eurovision and became a legend. How many of todays bads or singer that win eurovision will become a legend. None... because music doesn't count anymore...

Why not place the action backwards in time... let's say during the Roman Empire, the beginning of its downfall. Your heroes would be the roman generals doing the best they can to preserve the empire from collapsing. Or, why not, the users would be one of the barbarian commanders trying to take down the empire. Think carefully before choosing any period of time because the users like to be in a position that give them glory, where their deeds could make a very big difference. Maybe even create some historic battles which the user can play and by doing so altering the course of history... That's got to be interesting! So maybe you could use the game to teach a history lesson (I would like that) and also to explore some alternate timelines... But if you choose to place the action further in time (in the future) you will also need a story, something to explain how things ended up that way. In fact before even starting to code you should work out a story and study the period of time you want to create... like the cloths , the weapons, the amour, the building, even the social behavior. From what I understand from your posts you want to create something like World of Warcraft single player style. I would take that even further. You should make you game more like Black&White. You should try to do what Black&White failed to do... make you hero inspire the ones below him like the henchmen and the brute squads. You should give the user the chance to turn his hero into a positive hero or a evil one. Of course I don't know if you can do that since I think it requires hours and hours or programming. And since we are here I think you should spend more time on the programming part first.... it's far more important to make the characters and the world of the game behave as you want rather then spending countless hours on an armor or on a new weapon. Take the time and shape the world as you like and program the AI (which must be very smart) and then start working on graphics.Keep us posted when you start working on the game... If you need beta-testers count me on...

What Makes The Web So Great? What is it?
adriantc replied to SNiped's topic in Science and Technology
I think your right. Many inventions of the 20th and 21st century were just as great as the web, but only a few or none had this impact on people's lives. The concept of the web was great, but it was also something that could be easily implemented. Everybody had a telephone line and you only needed a computer to visit the web. It would have been a totally different story if the infrastructure that supports the web wouldn't have been already built and would have required years and years to develop not to mention countless billions of dollars in investments. So basically by the time they started working on the project they had an infrastructure. When they ended the research the market was fully ready to accept the new discovery. Internet was only on the wire back then, but now you can connect to the internet from even the most remote corner of the world. What made the Internet concept so great was the fact that it would connect the entire humanity. I would even say that the internet is the engine of globalisation. Then it comes to the internet I would say the sky is the limit. Maybe someday we could even connect all the minds of the world together and share experiences and thoughts. The Internet will reach it's maximum potential when humanity will be like one. Imagine all the knowledge of the world in one place. A wikipedia 10 million times larger on the tip of your finger. On the web you have no skin color or you can have any faith you want; nobody cares your a Christian or a Muslim. This is why internet is great, because people so distant both on land and in faith, culture, society etc. can talk and find out they really have a lot in common. I think the internet is just as important as the nuclear bomb. The web we see today is only the tip of the iceberg, only imagine the possibilities that our children will have...Unfortunately, just as nuclear power the internet can also serve to evil. But for the first time in history someone a million miles away can be just like in the next room. If used properly the Internet has the potential to unite the world in a way that we can't even imagine now. -
Well I don't think Serbia had the best song, besides the copy scandal (I have listened to both sounds and to my untrained ear the songs seem very similar). I don't say my country had the best song (not even close), but Serbia did not deserve to win. However the Ukraine's song was to say at least stupid. Still they scored high. Eurovision is not a music contest anymore. Last year Eurovision was won by someone who was closer to an ape then to a singer and this year someone with a star on his had almost won. So it seems that if you look and behave stupidly on stage you get more votes then those who really deserves them.BTW I've read in the news paper that a transsexual wants to win next years contest... What is this song contest turning into?

Microsoft Tries To Take Down Linux... Oh Microsoft, how silly...
adriantc replied to truefusion's topic in Operating Systems
Something like this was expected. The latest figures place Windows Vista on almost 3% of all computers. That's a very small amount of computers. But taking in consideration that Windows 98 is still installed on almost 2% puts Microsoft on a very difficult position. It's latest operating system is considered by many a new Windows Millennium. And since it took them almost 6 years to develop it and countless millions of dollars. So things ain't looking very bright for Microsoft. Vista is great for Linux because this is the best time to target the desktop computers...Microsoft is starting to realize they're loosing money so they thought why not grab the piece of the market that Linux now holds. But I think Microsoft cannot succeed. Why? Because Linux is not a small company, but a global family. It does not have a center without which it cannot survive. Linux is a nig family made up of millions of users and developers. Microsoft cannot destroy that. Open-source will live on and someday it will overtake Microsoft! -
My Inventions Please post your opinions on my inventions
adriantc replied to seez's topic in Science and Technology
The leaf-blower powered wagon is cool, but unfurtunatly it isn't very efficient, not to mention that does a terrible noise. I like the automatic fly swatter, but did it actually kill any flies? And did you let it run for a while because I don' think the fan was designed to support the weight of the fly swatter? The last ideas are not that original, you can buy thinks like that everywhere.Anyway keep up the good work and it would begreat if you would paste some photos of yout inventions -
New Yahoo Browser Based Messnger Is Out
adriantc replied to Saint_Michael's topic in Computer Networks
I heard about this from my friend but I don't know why I thought they were going to integrate Yahoo Messenger into the email box. Anyway this idea (even thought it is not new at all... Google Talk?!) is great. It really helps people who, for example, can't install Messenger on their systems. Like the workplace. You wouldn't like your boss to find that you have Messenger installed, not to mention that you might have a limited account that does not let you install messenger. And there nare times when you have to tell somebody something very fast and you don't have time to install the software. -
I've heard this rumor about this merge a few days ago. I am a fan of Google even thought my email is on Yahoo. I also think that a possible merge would become a hard nut to crack for Google. Imagine what Microsoft can do with Yahoo... The next OS integrated with Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo search, Yahoo games.... you name them. Remember why over 85% of the people use Internet Explorer? Because it comes preinstalled on Windows. So I think the big winner in this deal would be Yahoo. Google is going to have a hard time. There is also a positive side to this deal. From the competition the user will win as long as one side does not win. They have to compete in order to provide us with the best possible services. Google is the number 1 right now and it is threatening to monopolize the market. Good things might come out of this possible merge as long as "Microhoo" does not become too strong...And that's the way the cookie crumbles!PS: If this rumor is true I wonder what Microsoft is going to do with the Live services like the search engine or the instant messenger? It's hard to believe that after investing so much money and time in this they will simply throw that away for Yahoo!.

Well when you are as lazy as I am that is always a good idea. A few years ago my grandmother still had a black and white tv with no remote control and when I used to go and visit her in the summer holiday it was driving me crazy that i couldn't change the channel or the volume right from the comfort of your bed. Now voice remote is a good idea, but I'm sure already thought about this and found it imposible to implement. I don't mean the software or the hardware part, but in a loud room you won't be able to turn on the tv. Not to mention the fact that you usually sit pretty far from the tv and you will have to shout. Voice control has been implemented in the mobile phones, but it didn't enjoy a wide use because it just doesn't work as hoped....

Well I think we have passed the no return point. Today's world depends too much on fossil fuel, so changing this also means changing pretty much everything in our lives. Would you spend 30000$ on a hybrid car when you can buy a regular one with 10000$. Or you would rather go to the office by bike? Would you give up heating your home in the winter? Don't get me wrong, we can still save our world, but it will require a huge (more then we can imagine) change in our life. Above the fossil fuel problem there is also the alternative fuel problem. Sun, water or wind power don't cause pollution. But if we are to change and switch to electricity we will need lots and lots of power plants. The sun, the wind and the water can't simply provide enough electricity to power the entire world. Nuclear power is the answer. But that is also a ticking time bomb. Nuclear waste plus the danger of a large nuclear event make this only a temporary solution. But above all we have to change our lifestyle, be more efficient, consume much less energy then we currently do. We are so technologically advanced, but we cannot save our planet for ourselves... Last one to die please turn off the light!

It is a tragedy which unfortunatly is becoming very very often in the states. I don't know what is happening with them... I am about the age of the killer and I can't understand what happened with his mind. It is weird that he got a schollarship which would recommand him as a brilliant student not someone inclined to kill people. Besides that I really wonder who easy it is to get a gun in the USA when somebody who is a foreigner can get one... I think parents are the main persons to blame. Some say there is a killer gene, but it is up to the society if that gene turns him to a killer or not. There is no security to stop such rampages all can be done is to give a better education at home.

Is Democracy The Best Way To Govern?
adriantc replied to amit nigam's topic in Science and Technology
I don't think democracy is the best form of government. In Ancient Greece democracy worked because there were city-states with a small number of citizens compared to todays multinational, multicultural nations. Yeah democracy worked in Ancient Greece because (almost) everyone who voted knew personally the candidates. There was no mass-media to distort the image of the candidates, so you had a first hand experience with the one you supported. But this conditions cannot be met in today's world. If God would run for the presidency of the USA and CNN wouldn't agree with that He would not stand a chance. So the idea of democracy in today's world is only a shadow of what democracy represented for the ancient greeks or romans.I would go even further to state that the democracy is only a smoke screen to blind weak minds. The people does not have the power! And it will never have the power. Why? Because even though a vast majority of people can overthrow a government, the collective mind is extremely weak. A revolution without a strong leader has no chance. In ancient Greece (I return to this example because this was the world's first democracy!) the people really has the power because their mind weren't so influenced by the crowd. As I stated before in other posts people do have the power once every 4 years for a month or two. In the rest they only watch TV and have absolutely no power. Most of the world is capitalistic and that means that a small group of people (100 individuals for example) can rule (at least economically) over 100 or 200 million people. And no election every 4 years can change that...Like in India, Romania which 18 years ago escaped from a communist regime and just entered UE is now ruled by a minority of 20%. Yeah a government has been formed with only 20% of the total votes. Why is that possible? Because they only see their interest and their party's interest. The (former) opposition (socialist party) now defends the power which is held by the liberal party. This is really weird.... A right wing party is supported by a left wing party... All this happens for as long as they have a mutual interest. The people want a new election, but no one wants an election because they all want a piece of the cake (read: millions of euros from the UE). So you see the so-called democracy power of the people isn't in fact a democracy. The country is not ruled by the will of the people, but by the interest of the ones who are in power or in opposition. Maybe my country is just not very developed yet... I don't know... I'm just sick and tired of seeing their faces on TV. I am sick and tired of seeing so-called intellectual praising this so-called democracy.Bottom line is... Democracy died 2000 years ago; what we see today is only a noble idea in the service of a select few who control everything. People like to think they are in control when they really aren't... -
Obesity Gene Discovered A discovery from UK discovers (United Kingdom).
adriantc replied to Lyon2's topic in Health & Fitness
Yeah it is true that this is a very big discovery. Just as you said this discovery is even more important for the Americans which are known to become fatter and fatter (more people are overweight in the USA). Of course I think it's not just the gene which makes people overweight but their lifestyle. There are some cases of people who no matter what they eat they'll put on weight. But the main problem I think is our lifestyle. As a big fan of McDonalds and KFC I do realize that their food is not good at all (it does taste good I have to admit). Fast food in general is not good at all for our health...This is the opinion of someone who doesn't have problems with weight. Well I do have problems but they are related to the fact that I cannot seem to put on weight no matter what I eat.
