Looking For A Good C++ Compiler Im hoping to get a URL to get C++
sparkx replied to bitemytail's topic in Programming
Personally I use Dev-Shed C++. It is OK but has some bugs for example you need to run all the files from My Documents rather then just pressing run (that buttom seems to not work). I could never figure out the debug but I dont need it anyway. I needed to download some extra things for it to work with my programs but other then that I would need to say it is fairly good.I have only used the trial verson of Visual C++ by Microsoft but I think this is a good compiler also. I didn't need to download extra things and it ran file without me going in and opening them manually. I know it has some handy settings (though I didn't use them) but I have found some good C++ tutorials aimed directly to the Visuall C++. The only error I ever came up with was while assigning bool variables. They are case-sensitive on Visuall C++.Hope this helps,Sparkx -
Os-air - If Airlines Were Like Operating Systems
sparkx replied to dserban's topic in Websites and Web Designing
That is a cool article. Someone put a lot of thought into that joke. But it is true lol. Windows Air how often does that happen to the new Windows Vista (I dont have it but aparently from people I know it happens a lot). They should make a youtube video out of that. I dont know how but if someone ever found a way to it would get lots of hits. Think about that just sitting there and the word Unix comes up then a scene of 50 people bringing random airplane parts and trying to asemble them on the runway. Thanks,Sparkx -
This just started occuring when I downloaded the new version of Opera. I think there must be setting for this but I cant find it. Anyway whenever I go to a web page Opera loads it from memory (not the internet). Now this speeds up your computer (or it should) but does not provide up-to-date information. The only way I could find to get around this is to press the refresh button but when you are using forums like I do pressing the refresh button on every page just to get it updated takes a lot of time (not to mention it is anoying). Does anyone know how to solve this problem? That would really help. Also I have been using view source a bit lattly. I dont know if that is affecting anything? Thanks,Sparkx

This is probably the wierdest thing I have come across. Looks like just a picture until you click it then you find that you can play games like packman (only it is very small and you never win). Well most people already know about this site but still I think it is cool. If you could put swf files in your avy I would put a small game like one of thouse ones. That would be soo cool, people could be playing a game off of your post. My Opinion, Sparkx

That only works if the person doesn't have an Admin password. If they are smart they will set a real easy to remember password (for them at least) so incase they even need it they can log in but if you try to you can't (unless you spend all day guessing passwords). Some editions of windows XP howevery you need to type in the username and password (it is not a list). I think this is safer but takes more time. I dont like the whole idea of hacking an Admin account. The owner of the computer could tell exactly who did it once they login and check the control pannel (then they probably wont let you use thier computer anymore). So I dont see a real use for this unless you get locked out of your own computer somehow, in which case how would you be viewing this site?Sparkx

Have You Ever...? liked a website that....
sparkx replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I cant recall an exact URL but I have been to sites with some crazy CSS but the content was soo good I bookmarked it anyway. I have seen sites with yellow text and a black background (one of the worst two colors to mix in my opinion). However for most people I think the look of a site is just as inportant (if not more) then the actual content. Think about it, if Yahoo or Google had a bad theme would people still use it? Probably not because even if it is un-intintional we tend to judge a site right a way on it's background and text. For me websites with black backgrounds and a dark text (dark green/yellow ect. /White text is OK) makes me feel alone or in a dark scarry place while the reality is that I could be on a very active site/forum that people use all the time. This also happens when a webpage takes long to load or is 404. So I guess in the end the question you ask is very hard to agree with. Why really would people like a site that was "broken" even if it had very good content. My Opinion,Sparkx -
Well I use Lavasoft Ad-aware SE. It is very nice, free and allows you to run quick effective scans. The scans it runs are many times faster then the scans that Nortin Anti-Virius runs. Ad-aware also has the following features: -Full Scan- This will scan all of your C: drive. You can change it to scan a flash drive E:, Floppy A: or a CD D:. It is fairly fast and effective but sometimes is not needed for major threats. -Quick Scan- A quick scan is very fast and seems to find major threats like adware, maleware and spyware. It also checks in your cookies for some that could cause popups ect. -Personal Scan- This will allow you to make your own scan. You can scan in some folders only and scan your ram for un-wanted prosses. This is the fastest scan and in my option reacomended every time you start up. Simply because it makes sure that you dont have spyware and the fact that it only takes a few secounds to run an effective scan. Once viriuses are found you can delete them or quarantine them (in case they actually are files you want). This is all on the free version. The website to download is: LavaSoft. But some of the features are not availble in the 2007 edition. You will need to get the older edition (SE). This edition still recieves updates and is only slightly less secure then the new one. I would recomend this unless you really want the best protection out there. Ad-aware SE can be downloaded from: Snap Files.

Game: Stop Stop -> How Timely Are You?
sparkx replied to turbopowerdmaxsteel's topic in Computer Gaming
The new game looks very cool. Better then the beta. This new look should make people want to try it more. You must know c++ pretty good. I was just starting to learn c++ and it seems like a cool computer language. I love how you can do just about anything. I was just a little confussed with the whole depth of screen and lighting while using 3D. I hope I could make a game like your one day. Good luck,Sparkx -
How Fast Does Your System Boot, And What's Your Os? Poll
sparkx replied to dserban's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well I use windows XP on a good day I boot up around in less then 20 secounds but if I have a lot of fragments then it could take from 30 to 45 secounds. It is not too slow in my opinion because I usually start up my computer then go do something and when I come back it has already been booted up for a few minutes. It would be nice to have a faster boot time but the only use would be if I was in a hurry (in which I don't think the boot time would make an inpact in the overall startup). I run a defragment every 2-3 months but I have Zone Alarm which takes a long time to load. Once loaded my system is Average speed.Thats my system,Sparkx -
Add “open With Notepad” To Right-click Context Menu
sparkx replied to master_nero's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Looks good. I think it would be helpfull for me when I am opening .php files to edit ect. The only question that I have is if it is reaversable? Is it possible to un-do what you modify on your computer. Often times I get software or modifications onto my computer (usually just controll pannel modifications). After compleating a few projects I nolonger need that modification. It is nice to know that stuff you dont need isnt using ram or disk space (even though it probably only takes a few kb of hardrive). It seems lots of people like this modification. Just as long as it doesnt mess up my registor lol. Thanks,Sparkx -
What do you think is the best CAD (computer assisted drafting) software? I am looking for a software that is good for making 3D buildings in high detail. I have only tried Solid Works (good for small things) and Auto Cad 2007 (just is not very good at 3D). Does anyone know/like any other software like that? I am going to use the Cad for buildings in a game (but I will have other uses for the software also). The reason I am doing it this way is so I can get good graphics without needing to pay lots for 3ds (which is mostly for charicters ect). Thanks,Sparkx

OK so it is secure apparently. Just wanted to make sure. If you dont mind I have anouther related question.Well on some browsers you dont neccissarly need " in tags to make them valid. I know for some browsers <font color=#00FF00> ect is a valid tag. The point I was trying to make is if there is a way to check the URL for if it is valid and is not added onto (injection ect)? I know you can get php to check an image for size ect. Is PHP also able to check a url for valid? What I was thinking was if the URL was invalid or was a .exe ect url that downloads something it would be replaced with Invalid URL rather then <a href=... That could be done if the check would produce true then just run a simple if($var==true){ tag. Do you get what I am saying? Check if a URL is .html or .php just like you can check an image for if it is .gif or .jpg ect. Thanks again for the help. I know this question could be under a new Topic but I dont see why making more topics for related question.Sparkx

Looks like it would work but I dont know much about the explode function. The one thing that I see that worries me a little is that ] is being used sepuratly. The question I have is if ] is used incorrectly will it still be recoginized in this str_replace? Example: [url=http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; target="_blank] now the replace would look like: <a href="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; target="_blank"> will this cause the ability to inject stuff into the tag? It could be bad if they used " or > would there be a way to replace all " and > in the $url tag without messing up any possible urls? Also will this work multiple times lets say the tag is used more then once? If the URL tag works I dont see why I couldn't do the same with the [cod][/cod] tag and running a string replace for [ and ] for the section inside. Im sorry if I am asking too many questions but I dont want to end up like PHPBB with security holes everywhere. Thanks for the help, Sparkx

OK well I wanted to add some BBCode to my website but I ran into trouble. At first I was useing str_replace() but that does not work if I am trying to make the code. I think I would use preg_match but I am real confused. Could someone post the source code to make: [url=http://somewebsite.com]Website[/url] Into: <a href='http://somewebsite.com' target='_blank'>Website</a>Also how would I make the code tag so it would replace all [ and ] withen the two strings with [ and ] example [cod][/cod]would print the html [b] [/b]Do you get what I am trying to do? Thanks, Sparkx Note: I had to take out some letters in the code above because this forum looked at them wrong.

Thanks pyost and voxPeru. I am going to look at php.net for the <<<END and END; method for a string. If that does not work I many need to use the advanced looking chr() string. I know a little about the <<<END method and how it stops most php enjections ect. Thanks again,Sparkx

Don't ask why but I need to make a long variable that contains ' " ; and ) meaning I cannot use: $var=('Test');It will create an error. Here is an example of what I am talking about: $var=("I want to use ' and " while allowing html and not using htmlspecialchars");Basicly is what I want is a <<<END variable. I know you can do this in an echo like: echo<<<ENDThis is some echo. I can use ' " ) and; without using htmlspecialcharsEND;Is there a way to make a simalur code that works with variables? Do you get what I mean? That would really help me out. Thanks, Sparkx Note: I need it for HTML and some HTML strings use both ' and " so I cannot use just one and make the string with the other.

Now I am currently using Dev-C++ by Bloodshed. I don't like it much first off it closes the prompt automaticly I cannot see if my program worked or not. I am also working on visual c++ and it doesn't seem to be support making a window.I want to just replace it all togeather. What is a good C++ compiler for windows xp? I heard that Microsoft Visual C++ is good for visual c++ but what are your reviews? I am planing on making advanced 3D software (games) using C++. I would like it if all the compilers suggested supported GLauxe (if you know what that means). Also I know that this is possible with java but is it also possible to compile C++ with Windows Command Prompt? Is so what files do I need to download. Thanks,SparkxNote: I am new to programming in C++. I know very little about the subject other then making simply commands within main(). Sorry for any odd spacing in this post. My computer does not support the <textarea> used in IPB.

Which Operating System Is Better? Its a poll
sparkx replied to swinkid's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I like Macintosh the most but I use Windows XP. I haven't tried Vista yet, but it has been getting bad reviews (probably just because it is new and still should be in the beta stage). I want to move to a Macintosh system, but I am already familur with Windows XP. I know the Macintoshes are more stable and dont get as many viruses. They also don't crash and require restarts for everything you install. One downside to Macintosh is that they do not support games and for me that is a must have in a computer. I was woundering when the new Macintosh came out that clamed to run both Windows and OS 10+ at the same time does that mean that it will run Windows files (.exe ect) on the Mac side? If so I don't see any reason to even get a new Windows computer. Mac is just better and it would run the games I play. I probably understood that clam wrong but that would be cool if it did. I am going to vote for Windows XP simply because I know it and it runs the games I like.My opinion,Sparkx -
Php Forum Cookies I need help on a php forum cookie. All suggestions welcome.
sparkx replied to sparkx's topic in Programming
Thank you vizskywalker and yordan. I like the idea about keeping read and un-read on the server. I am thinking about maby keeping track of Topic ID and Viewed Date (for each topic) on my server connected to the user. I will simply have all un-read posts for guests (no cookies). The only problem with checking the login date is that the user did not neccissarly read all the posts on the last login, but then again it takes up a lot less space on my server. Thanks again for all the help. I was really stuck on this problem,Sparkx -
OK, I am making a forum in php (with a mysql database). It is much harder then I thought it would be but I have been getting along very well. I was just putting some finnishing things on it when I found a problem I couldn't figure out. All suggestions are welcome. Problem: I want my forum (like all forums) to remember what topics you have already read. I want to do this via cookies and at first I was think of having to topic ID to be saved in a string. Example (Cookie: %x%) x=the forum topic ID. Then to retrieve that data I would simply look for %x% inside the cookie. If it was found then the forum would be marked as read otherwise it would appear unread. Now there are some problems that are very obviouse with this method. 1: New posts would not make the topic appear unread. 2: No way to mark all posts (well it would take lots of bandwidth at least). The two ways I was thinking would require a large cookie and I dont feel right adding long cookies to people's computers. 1: Add the time that the topic was read example (cookie: %x-t%) x=forum topic ID t=internet time. 2: Instead have every post ID in the cookie rather then only the topic ID. Example (cookie: %y%) y=reply/post ID What would you suggest? Are my two way listed the only ways or is there a more effective way that would require a smaller cookie? Once again all suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Sparkx Note: Sorry about some odd spacing around the center of this topic. I was having trouble with my computer.

I would rate it a 7 or 8. It is a great search engine I cannot deny that. The best one on the internet by far (at least in my opinion. However, I have found that they are sometimes un-relyable. I have heard many people have problems with the staff mostly in the ad-words and ad-sense part of Google's site. I like how it automaticly translates websites of a different language and how they have sence of humor (things here and there are quite funny like when you zoom in on google moon). I really like google's email gmail mostly because it has free POP3. Igoogle provides a good Dock like program for people that don't your Apple computers. I also like google tool bar. Very handy page rank and spell check (two of the best tools on my web browser). I hope google fixs its errors with Ad-sense then I would be able to rate them a 9 or 10. I would still recomend Google over Yahoo or Ask.That is my opinion,Sparkx

I dont think you can do that but I think it may be possible if you use php. Unselect auto increment and run a while. Get the ID and check it based on the last ID (find if it is +1 of last variable) then run an if tag. If it is +1 of the last var then do nothing but if not simply add the entrie. This works good for forums ect. so if member 5 is deleated. You allow easy to remember urls to re-appear (example: ID=5 is easyier then ID=156123). Get what I mean. But if you do it this way the ID can no longer be used as a way to order entries by when it was created. Here is an example of php you might use. $LID=0; //Last ID$result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM example ORDER BY ID");while($row = mysql_fetch_array( $result )) {if($CH!=1){$ID=$row['ID']; //Get ID$LID=$LID+1;if($LID!=$ID){////Add your mysql insert here.//$CH=1; //This var will stop from multiple entries.}unset($ID);}}Now I haven't tested the code above. But it should work. This is the only way I could think of to solve your problem. Note: This assumes that your first ID is 1 not 0. If your first ID is 0 you need to add:$ID=ID+1;after:$ID=$row['ID']; //Get ID Hopefully this will solve your problem, Sparkx

For some reason the video seams fake. Also why would someone buy a pen pad that would cost soo much when you can do almost the same thing with your mouse. It is useless. I sure hope that is not how the vienna looks. I did think that the monitor that (at the biggenning) was pretty cool. Gives you more of an inclosed feeling. I think they already sell that kind of monitor. I think vienna will probably just be a better vista just like vista was just a better (as in more graphic) windows xp. They really did not add anything big to the vista just a lot of small things (at least that is from what I have seen). I plan to keep my xp untill the vienna comes out and then I will buy a vista for a real low price. Or I was thinking of switching to apple. Now that it runs both windows an mac there is no real reason to stick with a Dell. Thanks,Sparkx

Help: How To Make A "shoutbox " ? Who know how make Shoutbox ??
sparkx replied to iGuest's topic in Programming
While most people use free or pre-made shoutboxs, they are not always the best. It really depends on what you want. If you want a secure shoutbox I would suggest making your own PHP shotbox or a cbox (look it up on google). If you dont care about security and simply want auto-update you may want to use Macromedia Flash to build your chatbox. Now in php it is possible to have it update every few secounds but this makes the cbox very glitchy and will slow down the time it takes for you page to load. Now people have posted many tutorials on how to make your own chatbox but I wouldnt suggest you learn php just to make a chatbox. I would suggest you used a pre-made one. I know 2 that are very good.cbox: Very good free php chatbox program that has very few glitches or errors. One problem lots of people have is an inperisination threat that allows others to post under any name. Other then that it is very good in my opinion.Flash-Gear: This is probably the best free chatbox program I have seen. It uses macromedia flash and can be put on almost any site and is very simple. It takes a while to load but once loaded you can have a glitch free conversation with someone. This is recomended for smoth back and forth converstions but as before also has an inperisination problem.Hope this helps,Sparkx -
Website Directory ! No link back required
sparkx replied to Ajay Shivaa's topic in Websites and Web Designing
How many hits per day do you get? I will probably join once I open up my website (will be a few weeks). I was just woundering if this would be worth making an account. I am just asking because your site doesnt seem too stable. I got this error on a few pages: Also it seems that none looks at the links. Just a suggestion that you put a hit counter so we know how many people actually will view the directory. Other then that it looks like a very nice piece of code (assuming that it is secure). Good luck on making your directory. Thanks, Sparkx
