  1. Hi, your site sounds good to me, although geek.com is a big competitor i think by offering as good or better services with the right SEO you could make it big. Im interested in the script sales/distribution service, if you plan on distributing scripts would that mean that user's can submit scripts and have them distributed for free? If so i think that could be usefull for users and you as a webmaster. Keep up the good work
  2. Im not sure on this topic so ill stay mostly out of it but what gets me is if Armstrong was the first n the moon then who put the camera there that filmed him coming out of the craft? I dont believe it was on a pole or anything attached to the craft because it would break too easily and would burn on re-entry so where was it and how did it get there?
  3. All true points there, i think ill probably write something that shows my feelings for her in a less overt way and also emphasizes how much i value her as a friend also, at least that way i can fall back on the friend side of things if it goes a little pear shaped so to speak. The problem with a letter or card is that i dont see her that often and ill only be able to give it to her at college, not to mention I'm shy! Although i agree that an email is very informal so...*thinks intensely* i have just over three weeks to decide!
  4. Thanks everyone, Im not bother about the boyfriend really, he doesnt seem, the type to try to kill me! Im more worried about scaring her away if that makes sense, i guess so long as its not over the top she might just not let it affect anything At least ive got a long time to think about this! I dont know what it is i just want to tell her what i feel, maybe if i do write a poem i can write it as about how much shes cheered me up and how much i appreciate that as i can hint on the side of my feelings towards her but mostly it will be abut how much i value her as a friend also. That might go down easier and be the better thing to do, master_bacarra is right really giving her the space which she needs. And Jimmy, you are certainly right, i have too many regrets of things i didnt do so i feel like i have to do something thanks to everyone, now i have an idea of what to do and how...now for the finalities of the mission If anything spectacular happens I'll be sure to post it, good or bad!
  5. At a glance the code above looks good So Boozker, take a look at it and see if you can work it out, if not then carry on reading! The if/else statement isnt too complicated, it is basically: If(this_thing == that_thing) {then im going to do this stuff.........} ELSE {but if they arent the same im ging to do this stuff instead ......... }; As with all PHP statements and comands you must end it with the semi colon. The curly brackets basically mean "then" eg IF(1 == 2) {Ill do this...... } Would translate in human speech as Thats what makes me understand complicated IF statements better. You can have NOT EQUAL to or GREATER THAN, LESS THAN, etcetera but dont worry too much about them just yet. If you apply this explaination to the code above it might make it easier to understand. A good thing i used to get used to this was make a very simple log in script which would work similar to the code above but the variable $var would come from another page, if you wanted to try that out check http://www.tizag.com/phpT/postget.php to learn about those variables and then use the code that is above and simply change the line $var = "BooZker"; for $var = $_POST['username']; (username can be any variable name, the link above will hopefully explain) and then is you type the right username in you will get one message, and if its wrong you get another message. Then you can add like a password field or something and change the messages etc and get the hang of it EDIT: Also see that instead of one EQUALS sign there are two in an IF statement, you always use two EQUALS signs in an IF because this means "is equal to" and one EQUALS sign means "give the value of" EG $var = "Bozker"; Means and IF(1 == 2) means
  6. Well as much as i hate the economic-ness of valentines day some people like it, particularly girls methinks! And so my question does begin:Should i send a little email or even a card to this girl? Let me tell you more, i go to college, in my second year now and last year she sat next to me in one of my classes so i saw her nearly every day and we started talking and near the end of that academic year, about June, i started to really like her. I think shes pretty and she's really funny and got a nice personality etcetera. The catch it she has a boyfriend which makes this dilemma a bit more complicated!Shes been with him for just over a year and i know she really likes/probably loves, him and so i think that maybe expressing my feelings isnt a good idea as i am very very unlikely to get with her any time soon and it might affect our friendship, and were not exactly best mates as it is. But she doesnt know how i feel and for some reason i want her to know, i want to tell her how good looking and nice she is etcetera. So do you guys think its a good idea to let her know? I have no idea why im choosing valentines day for this as i believe if you love someone you should show it all year round but i guess it gives me an excuse because im not the most outright person. In the past ive bought roses and wrote poems for a girl but i dont plan on anything spectacular just a little message letting her know what i think of her, maybe a short poem if something comes to me. the only thing i am a little worried about is how she will feel because she already has a boyfriend and as of yet i dont think she has any idea that i like her. And that is all! Any opinions welcome!
  7. if you put two intense lights together you get one very intense light. I dont quite understand what you mean by putting them together though. And what you mean by when light collides. Also to create a laser its more complicated than just a bright light, its something about the way they energise the photons or something, look it up in google. Also its not really possible to "create" chemicals or any kind of matter, or so they say anyway! you can transform it, eg oxygen and hydrogen are gasses but when they join they become water and they can become bleach, three totally different things, gas, water, bleach. But you cant create oxygen, atleast they say so and it does seem logical!
  8. dude why so many links? especially separated by a line and there are a lot of links to different pages within one site, the mods might see that as spamming and trying to get hosting credits... and what do you mean by As i understand it ghosts are the spirits of those departed from this world. But there can also be "recordings" of energy which we can see as ghosts but aren't really ghosts, for example if there is a violent murder and we hear screams and such like this is most likely a "recording" of that event which has been etched into...well i guess the surroundings, by the intense feelings involved. We might think a ghost is screaming but it might not be. Hope that makes sense
  9. couldn't this be a browser padding/margin issue? in which case you could try some CSS to set the browser padding/margins to zero. The code is fairly easy to find on google and it may or may not help, i tried it once because i had a similar problem with an image having an ugly line above it and i wanted it to be flush with the browser edge, the CSS didn't work but its worth a try
  10. Well...ten seconds ago i took a closer look at one of the lights which i had assumed before was a key stuck light and i thought maybe the function key was stuck and that was the problem...however, theres a little number "1" on that light so i thought maybe its the num-lock light and....it is/was so after taking num lock off the keyboard now works as it should...well almost, the equals and zero keys dont work which is very annoying but i can type on it at least. Such an idiot i am! Thanks for the suggestions though because the keyboard still isnt perfect so i will be getting it sorted soon hopefully. Ill have a look around and get some quotes and see who is the best, yes i am a tight-wad! but im a student so its not my fault! Thanks people
  11. Hi allAnyone know the price to have an advent 7096 keyboard replaced at somewhere like pc world?i really need it replaced! I spilt tea on it!By the way, I'm in the uk!
  12. Id agree with the above post however be sure to check the loading times on the images too as images slow down the page so they should be as small(in file size) as possible. If you have the time andf effort then HTML is definately a useful language to learn and it isnt that hard, you kind of learn as you go along, ive been doing it for a couple of years now and i just learn what i need to for the page im designing and over the time ive mad a lot of pages and learnt more with each one.But if you really cant be bothered then try dreamweaver or some alternative, i dont really reccomend frontpage.
  13. Humm id have to say the age of castles and archers and knights because id love to be a knight in a shining suit of armour with a sword and shield standing on the front lines (although id probably run away when the enemy charge ) but id miss my asthma medication and die early and have no internet but it'd still be great to be a knight, and id also love to own a castle, its my life dream!
  14. Just make sure you download the right version for where you are, if you live in Europe there is a link on the site above you should follow. Only an hour left of downloading now
  15. Yes i suppose it would make sense to revise the standards if not a single browser can meet them. And its possible they purposely made an error in the code but not being a standards compliant coder i wouldn't see it! Not sure where IE7 gets the scroll bars from (i assume they are part of the page not something that was on the screen at the time you shot it) but i did hear that in beta IE7 couldnt render msn.com properly so IE7 is still officially terrible with standards!
  16. seen this before, what i want to know is how badly IE7 does it, yes i said badly, not "well" or "good" and i did so for a reason. The results will be terrible, if i was a betting man id stake my life on it.Anyone with IE7 feel free to check it out and let us know how dreadful it is shame to see firefox do so badly but maybe, as you say, FF3 will be better, they just need one that is perfect one day.
  17. EDIT: The downloader does have resume but it doesnt say so you just run it again and save it in the same location as before and it catches up
  18. Well you loose one credit every day for hosting, EG the number of credits is the same as the number of hosting days. And if you make a post and say you copied content and the mods had to quote it then of course all the credits you previously earned for say twenty lines of writing which is now quoted, are taken away. Same as if you did it yourself, the credits for that edited post are re-calculated. Other than those two reasons you shouldnt lose credits so if its definitely not either of those then try pm'ing a mod.
  19. hi there, no worries about it being your first post, welcome! I started MU but i didnt get the game play as all i did was kill things...and that gets really old after a day or two, what exactly is there to do on this server? Bear in mind i am a very newbie player with a level of abut 19
  20. If they are blind then they cant see anything, though if they have impaired vision they can see but it is limited so if they are so limited that they can only see shadowy figures then i assume they would see shadowy figures unless as previously touched on, they were able to see at some point in their life in which case they would be able to see in their dreams as they could recall the images from when they could see.

    Hosting Software

Hi there, i use xampp for development of my site and its code but i have also used it to set up a webserver on a lan and with some tweaks it can become a full web server. However there can be problems with your ISP and how it deals with you using a lot of bandwidth. You might have to contact them and ask them what their policy on you starting your own webserver is because it will mean a hell of a lot of traffic to your computer and the ISP might want to charge you more for that. If they say its all good then another thing is how fast is your connection? if youre own dial up, 56kbs, it really wont work because the time for your website to load would be a very long time for the users and they would probably give up. If you've got like 1 or 2mbs then it shouldnt be too bad because webpages are small so wont take too long to load but for downloads it might not be fantastic for the user. And one more thing is are you behind a router? If so you'll need to do some configuring on that to allow the computer to send webpages to users etc... If you are then someone else can hopefuly help you with that because ive never done that before. Otherwise il search the internet and find a tutorial and we can both learn how to do it! So assuming we got al the down what do you mean by "it loads slow" do you mean the program takes a long time to begin running or your pages take a long time to come up? If it takes a long time for the program to load then it shouldnt be a problem. Now to set up the webserver side its a doddle! Basically make sure you have al your settings as you want, and start the xampp service with php and sql is you need it. Ive never been successful with mecury which is the mail system for xampp so i cant help there so this is where i jump off and let someone else give a hand! Be sure to check the thing i said in the first paragraph because your isp could just cut you off which isnt good!
  22. Well yu should read the readme file, scroll up and its on the top of the shoutbox as a small text link. Basically you get credits for decent posts, the longer and better the more credits you will get, eg this post wont get many because its short but if i wrote a long tutorial id be rolling in credits. Credits are used for hosting as i hope you know, one per day. Copied content has to be put in quotes or the credits it got you will be taken away and you will get warned..yadayada Dont post referral links etc...its all in the readme. The key is posting long decent posts as the credits are calculated as quality not quantity, so one good post of fifty or so lines will likely get more credits than fifty or more single liners. Like i said the best place for credits is the tutorial section but it can take a few days before the tutorial is approved, so if you know graphics, website coding, design, security etc.. write a tutorial. Something like how to remove a virus or how to write a php script for something or other are good. And there's no need to sign out, this means like writing your name at the bottom, if you do make a mistake like forget to put quotes around copied content then edit the message and add them or the mods will do it for you but its better if you do it because they hand out web-asbo's By all means say thanks etc....but dont write things like "yours faithfully MYNAME" not that you would anyway but its only an example.
  23. I have to disagree about security for obvious reasons....every single OS theyve brought out has been hacked, their last anti piracy system was written in javascript!! as these people retarded? Rhetorical question, no answer needed! and was hacked in 45 minutes i believe. I do like the look of the taskbar in vista beta, and i assume that wont change but that is the only good thing about it. and xp can be skinned.....so can linux, mac etc etc etc....Aero...meh why do i need it? if i had transparent windows i wouldnt be able to read them properly....i dont want to see my desktop through the back of my film or my msn. And infact there was an addon for msn on x p that added transparency... I can tilt my windows...err why? If i have a window open i want to see it, if i dont want to see it i minimise it or close it...a lot easier and doesnt take a top notch gfx card and inexplicable amounts of RAM. I have a feeling that many laptops will have big issues with running this OS, even if you have the reuired system specs the fans in the laptop are going to go so fast it will hover. I hope that xp will be the last windows OS i ever use at home, im hoping to send myself over to the linux side, especially with the latest mandriva edition. I also hate the nanny culture MS brings, with every OS you cant do this or that withut MS knowing about it and i hate being spied on.
  24. I agree with above, dont ever get frontpage, i was making a website with frames by hand coding in notepad but i needed to align something using css and instead of guessing the number of pixels i was going to use frontpage to move it and then copy the code it made and use that. The frameset was with a small one at the top and a larger one under that. In frontpage the top frame was on the left of the page... Not impressed. i havent used dreamweaver but i've heard nothing bad about it. I also dont use WYSIWYG editors because their code can be messy and hard to hand edit. i like a good syntax highlighted editor though. If youre looking into making a lot of websites with content and things like javascript etc...then id say use a basic text only editor because it will be a lot simpler, though if you want to purely make website designs rather than actual complicated websites then go with dreamweaver. Frontpage is a disaster.

    About Brontok

my usual advice for removing persistent virri, eg those that keep coming back or wont go away, is to get avast, or use your favourite A/V and schedule a "boot time scan". In avast right click the avast tray icon and once open right click on the interface of the a/v and "schedule boot time scan" then reboot and on start-up avast will kick in and put the computer into a sort of ultra safe mode where windows barely has its eyes open and it will scan the HDD and any other media devices and delete the little buggers while they sleep Had to do that once or twice, it never came back, muahahaha! Its a similar thing to what jlhaslip suggested and i want to re-enforce what jlhaslip said about deleting do not delete! Archive/quarantine! i had several infected system files which i deleted using avast and well...it was like cutting a man's legs off, windows was really not happy and had to be re-installed. Wont do that again! If you do get an infected system file then you can try repairing it or in some cases get a replica of the file from MS or somewhere.
