  1. well as i said, i fully expect she will be returned to you in which case you can talk to her about this. Untill then keep your cool, the worst thing you could do is to become irate when the police or social services are around. If they see you getting angry easily then its fuel for their imaginary fire. Best of luck
  2. I dont think you are guilty of anything here, i agree that you shouldnt have snapped, but that isnt the point. As you say she deserved punishment. My advice is to work very closely with the police. dont hide anything or be reluctant to answer their questions. Keep your calm and stay relaxed when they are around. you have your friend as a witness that you didnt beat the crap out of her. I think he likely outcome of this will be social services making a few house calls and asking you and the kids questions. If the problem child says youve been abusing them etc... im sure the other children wont do the same and lie so it should all be fine. For a long term solution you need to talk to the 17 year old and find out why she is like this. Many factors could be causing it and one of them could be jealousy of the other kids. I would presume that the younger kids get more attention (this isnt a bad thing, being younger they need more care and supervision) and the 17 year old could be jealous of that. If i were you i would find a room alone, perhaps her room or the living room when everyone else is out or busy and say to her you want to talk to her and find out whats wrong. she can tell you or ask you anything and you will answer honestly and listen to what she has to say. Then answer her questions and at any point if she becomes aggressive, loud, excessive swearing (i for one swear a lot, but not in anger, its just where ive been brought up swearing in these areas is pretty common!) then just say calmly and without raising your voice that you will talk to her later and just walk off, go make a drink and sit in another room or something. Eventually i think she will like the attention she is getting and calm down, then you will be able to find out the problems she is facing and hopefully resolve the situation.Good luck, hold it together!
  3. With regards to there being no time travellers around today i explained one theory about that earlier. If a time amchine was invented on dec 25th 2008 the furthest you could go back would be to that day. You could not go further back in time than the date the machine was created because before that date the machine you are inside doesnt exist, and if it doesnt exist then how can it take you back in time?I did read a story, im not sure if it is a real conspiracy theory or just a random made up story. Called the manhattan project i think. But basically during the world war (not sure which) a ship was fitted with a device to make it either invisible or to transport it. Anway it sort of backfired, they turned it on and observers saw the ship flicker, then dissapear. A little while later (could have bene hours, could have been seconds, im not sure) the ship cam back with men INSIDE solid metal, as though the metal had turned liquid and they had been thrown in there before it went solid again. The story goes that the soldiers on board actually visited the creator of the device in a future time and he explained that they were all going to die basically.now im not sure if its just a made up story or if it is a real conspiracy theory, if it is then presumable it has some basis, perhaps the government did test such a machine on a boat. Whether or not it did what the story says is a different matter.Time space is a really interesting concept. How can something so intangible as time (we cant feel, see, sense or understand it) be manipulated? Is time even real? If you think about it if your brain was working twice as fast time would appear to go twice as slow, so isnt time just an illusion? What controls and sets time? For example in a computer program you would control and set the rate of time by using the CPU cycles and millisecond values. But what controls the passage of time in reality? What says that every 3 seconds a lump of uranium will decay by 10 particles? Why?
  4. Actually theoretically it IS possible. That doesnt mean we will ever be able to do it but it does mean that in theory it is possible. As i said many strange things occur in physics and we cant forget that many of these things DO break the laws of conventional science, and of course there are many different laws of physics, many of which we do not understand but simply accept. This is very interesting. And possibly related to absolute zero. The point at which all energy from a particle is gone and it is COMPLETELY motionless and frozen. If we could do that to every particle in the universe (including ourselves) and somehow transport ourselves, perhaps using a solid gold (its non-reactive) space ship or something that wouldnt decade even over millions of years and could steer itself etc... then when we get to the other side of the universe we could then unfreeze the universe and as far as we are concerned we just travelled 100 billion light years in literally no time at all. Of course its an illusion because all we did was stop the universe and stop our sensation of time. And its also never going to happen like that. Interesting though.
  5. This is the leading argument against: One theory suggests that if i were to create a time machine on december 25th 2008 it would NEVER be possible to go back before that date. No matter how far in the future you were you could only ever come back to dec 25th 2008 because beyond that point the time machine you are standing in does not exist, and if it doesnt exist it cant carry you back in time right? And as for the paradox, lets use the grandfather paradox, it is thought that the act of travelling back in time could spawn a parallel universe, or the act of killing him would cause the parallel universe to spwan. So now you are in two universes (for simplicity's sake) when you travelled through time you went into multiverse two (its not a universe if there are more than two now is it!) and kill him. So in that multiverse you no longer exist, however in multiverse one, your home multiverse, you DO exist and because of your existence in multiverse one you are able to exist in multiverse 2 in your time travel form. So when you return home you would presumably go back to multiverse one in which you never killed your grandfather and s nothing has changed. you would of course be unaware of the changing between multiverses and you might just assume that no matter what you do in the past it never affects the future. see How Stuff Works for a more in depth article! (no i didnt copy it from there, i read that a little while ago and saw a documentary on space-time and combined the two.
  6. Im going to give my standard reply to those who want to make money for nothing. It aint gonna happen!Just get a job or start a business. For someone to give you money you first (in the world of business anyway) need to generate them money. The ONLY reason companies employ people is because that person generates money for their business. Either by advertising, doing the work for a client, welcoming clients etc... so if you want someone to give you money you first need to make money for them.I have nothing against making online, i am doing it myself with website creation, but you will NOT get rich from these online scams. You might get $2 a month, big frikkin deal! Just give up on it and get a job or start a business. There is no other way unless you plan on being illegal
  7. well i dont want to say what will happen in the future, lets not forget Bill Gates once said 64k of RAM would be enough for anyone, and someone predicted the world would have a limited number of computers (i cant remember the number but its less than ten) They were grossly wrong... Instead i want to tackle one of the leading theories, that travelling faster than light enables you to go back in time. I dont think this is true. the interesting thing is however, that they have done experiments with two atomic clocks, one of earth and one in a plane or satellite or something. And the one moving was actually slower than the one on the earth, indicating that as speed increases the rate of time decreases. Anyway, back the light speed theory.I see it this way. It is true that if you were to go much faster than the speed of light and take off from Kennedy space center, you could (if going fast enough) be back in time to see yourself board the space ship. However, what would happen if you tried to touch yourself (easy there!) Because that image you are seeing isnt really you is it? Its simply the light reflected off of your body, and because you travelled much faster than that light you reflected you essentially beat the light to your observation point. (imagine the light hitting you and reflecting 10 feet backwards, but you trvalled around the world so fast you got back to that 10ft spot before the light did) SO according to that i think you can SEE back in the future but not GO back there by going fast. Although the atomic clock experiments do challenge that theory which is something i find absolutely amazing. As for tearing or manipulating space-time... Im not so sure. they do say if gravity is focussed enough (like a black hole) it bends space-time so much it makes a tunnel or worm hole that can go between space and time. However I cant possibly understand how nothing (the vacuum of space) can be manipulated. It just doesnt seem right. But there are things well beyond my understanding, such as how can light be both matter (photons) and energy at the same time? Why is it if you shine one photon of light through a board with two holes you would be able to record two light beams (one for each hole)? How can that one particle split into two? And why is it that if you set up recording equipment at the board with the holes in it to record the moment the photon splits into two, the photon would NOT split and you would record only ONE beam of light, purely because you are watching, how does it know you are watching?! how?! (this is real, check it out on how stuff works, quantum physics, not sure of the exact article but it is real) Theres some weird stuff out there and the fabric of space-time is one of them.
  8. sky is right, reset your password at that link and you will be emailed instructions.Im not sure (its never happened to me) but if your IP is blocked you may need to submit a support ticket. change your password first and if you are still locked out submit a ticket to xisto or PM a mod for further advice.
  9. Hehe well ya know glad to hear it is resolved anyway! And glad i could flex my brain muscle
  10. Have you checked the permissions on the images themselves? (if you can) it could be that the folder is 777 but the images arent. Also try checking the folder password protection thingy in cpanel just to make sure it hasnt somehow got protection. Are there any HTACCESS files in or above the style_images folder? Could be some sort of protection there. It could also be hotlinking protection that has activated by default because of the forum settings o look for some HTACCESS files
  11. This may not be the solution but here is my input...Firstly of course the 403 is due to some sort of password protection on that directory OR the permissions are just 000 (or whatever the CHMOD is for no privileges at all)now if you mean you cant change the file permissions via CHMOD in your FTP.... What program are you using? I had a similar problem with a different host when using FileZilla, i Chmodded successfully in the ftp program, but when i views the properties immediately after the change they were back to how they were before (so the CHMOD failed)Part of the problem for me i think was the program itself, it was outdated, (and still is) so try updating your FTP program. the way i solved it was to download the problem folders to my desktop, then re-upload them and CHMOD them, it seemed to work. Also try CHMODding the parent folder and applying those settings to ALL subdirectories and files. Then see if that works. If it does you may have to manually re-set the other items in that directory to keep security.I dont know if that helps at al but thats my story and it might shed some light on your issue. Though if you tried it through cpanel too... its odd....Edit: i just realized the filename of the folder and it doesnt start with odd characters, but ill leave the below information for prosperity.... if ip.bordpr is a FOLDER name and not a file, then try removing the dot. It may work, it may not.PS are the folders you are chmodding hidden or protected folders? I think the issue i had started because the folder names started with a "." or a "_" Try renaming them, then chmod, then rename it back if this is the case.
  12. Well firstly there are some really nasty display issues with FF3 on a 1280X800 screen. The title is way off and the frames really mess things up. My advice is to either drop the frames and use another method to have static links (such as PHP or a content management system) Or configure the frames to hide the scroll bars (you might need to reduce the length of the content because the scrolls are really horrible) or use CSS to colour the scroll bars to fit in with the rest of the site. Also the background image, it looks about 1990's most websites these days have a very simple pattern on plain coloured background and i would recommend possibly using the background of the forum (the black/grey dotty one) or a plain black background.Im also not sure why the forum is in a weird frame like that. It would be better just to have two columns made in frames. The left for the navigation and the right for the content and have the frames go from the top to the botom and not cut off half way down.Anyway, good luck!
  13. Fishing! Gotta love the fine art of fishing, not this aggressive, fish killing stuff that goes on in places like america and eastern Europe but peacefully sitting by a lake with rod and line, a small single hook and some bait. Nothing beats being out in nature like that, by a lake, perhaps in a forest...brilliance!
  14. This is still on topic but might sound like it isnt... You say that because someone said god created everything, that they are correct. So, if someone told you that the big bang was real and god isnt, would you believe them? Religion is a great thing, it helps shape people and give people meaning when, at least in my eyes, there is no meaning. (im not a religious type. I tend to see religions as a way to control people, get money from people and generally put women down due to the fear that males have of being overthrown by someone they see as weaker than them) But anyway.. i digress.... the point is if someone said that the universer was created when merlin the wizard waved his wand you would question them deeply, such as where did old merlin come from? what was his wand made of? Cant have been wood, there were no trees! What did merlin wear... and so on. I am not saying you should not believe, i am saying you should ask questions to understand it further. And theres nothing to fear form the LHC No matter what theory you believe in, ask questions, get a deeper understanding of what you believe in. And as a christian or any religious type, do not be afraid to believe different things than what you are told. I think god would appreciate it more that you ask questions and perhaps believe the big bang than to follow blindly because you were told something that was not written by god. Afterall, there is still the question, what, or who , created the big bang?
  15. I think to understand the big bang, or the beginning of the universe we must first accept some odd things. Ideas such as infinity, who here can honestly say they can comprehend something infinitely big? Infinity is something humans cannot normally understand. Also the idea of nothingness. Imagine nothingness. What do you think of? Blackness? then you are wrong. There is no blackness, for the is nothing. not even the colour black. not even the absence of light. It is incomprehensible. and so to accept the big bang or the white hole theory i simply accept that at one point there was nothing. I dont try to understand this nothingness. It just is. And that is the only way humanity will even comprehend the beginning of the universe (or in the white hole theory, the beginning of the first multiverse)
  16. Well i was always interested in computers, hacking, coding etc... so i started leaning HTML. Then i wanted to code one of those 007crush style sites where a user fills in details for a love score or some crap and instead it gets emailed to whoever. I knew HTML so i coded the form but needed to send an email. I tried Javascript but got confirm messages and email clients and all the rest of it so i learned basic GET variables and mail() in PHP. Since then ive worked up to creating whole sites, logins, sessions, file and DB management etc... and still the mail() function is in use I think the ONLY way to lean php is to do it. Theres no point in reading a book because you just copy. Set yourself a task like "i want to make a PHP script to take user input, validate it, and save it to a DB" and then google things like "PHP input validation" "php mysql insert query" and go from there, you will copy some lines, sure, but you will learn a lot of it and repetition will ingrain it in your mind and you wont forget it. Then add to that code like "i want to get that data out of the DB set it into an array, echo that data out in a HTML table, then make links for someone to edit those DB entries, oh and i need an admin login, and session management, MD5 hashing" and so on. It just gets bigger until youve made a complete user login site with user management, mailing lists etc... If you are reading a book on PHP stop! You need to do it! Read the book to learn the stuff but always do it yourself every time you learn something new practice it!
  17. As i understand it the only way to achieve this (and i just had this problem too for a paid website and used this solution) is to use the FROM header. Eg: mail("usersaddress@host.com", "subject here", "message here", "FROM:webmaster@mysite.com"); Though there may be a setting in php.ini somewhere, but we dont have access to that on shared hosting.
  18. Damn thanks! lol I think this topic is now solved!Ill have a play and see what happens, but for now, thanks everyone!
  19. Hum... isnt he the guy that i order my kebabs from (no really, its called Ali Baba's, he also happens to sell fake watches in Gran Canaria...) , anyway. I DO think kids should be taught creationism. But only in RE and taught carefully eg: "Christians believe god created the earth etc..." Rather than "Now kids, we all know that god DID create the earth" The kids need to understand that a group of people, the christians, believe this story, whereas the scientist have very good evidence for the evolution theory and muslims believe alah created it etc....
  20. Well they surely went to the moon at some point, and i do think they did it the first time they claimed they did for a few reasons:Firstly the hammer and feather test. Both fall at the same speed in a vacuum like the moon (not perfect i know but near vacuum) and i believe this is shown in the video. This would have been VERY hard to fake back then as even if they used string to pull the feather down faster you would see if spin and flex with the wind resistance. They also left a reflector on the moon to reflect laser beams fired from telescopes. The purpose of this is to measure the distance from the earth to moon, and we have found that it actually moves further away at the same rate as your fingernails grow (about 4cm a year) so if they never went to the moon we would never be able to do this, and they do it so it proves we went to the moon. I think that the video clip of the first men on the moon shows them placing these reflectors too. I used to think it was all faked. But now i believe it.
  21. Sorry, i apologise for "jumping down your throat" as you put it, i just assumed, wrongly, you were one of those uninformed, possibly religious people who blindly accept what society tells them to believe, but clearly you arent. So my apologies for that. And in order to stay on topic lets think of something to say about homosexuality! I too studied psychology, and i wouldnt say All homosexuals are gay because of trauma. I do think some make an informed "choice" (eg they think carefully, try it and enjoy it, rather than trying it and not enjoying it but doing again anyway because of life experiences and eventually conditioning themselves to like it). But i suspect a lot of younger homosexuals are gay because of rejections from the opposite sex, constantly being exposed to an adult homosexual etc.... Of course, others would say homosexuality isnt a choice, youre either gay or not gay from the day you are born. I wouldnt say that is true either as i do think sexuality is heavily influenced by life experiences. However this doesnt touch on the right to have children. As a bottom line i would say gay people DO have the right to have children, but in some cases it may not be in the childs best interest.
  22. Its an interesting, and very complex theory. but i would like to know how a particle with less energy travels faster? As the basis of the speed of an object is the amount of kenetic energy it has, so to travel faster it needs more energy. However im no scientist and the world of particle physics is truly AMAZING, but not as amazing as quantum physics... damn it really is amazing. Like entanglement, two protons (i think) somehow get entangled, so if you polarized one to spin from left to right (Y axis), the other would automatically, on its own, change direction to spin up-down (X axis) evne if they are not touching and out of range of any magnetic interference... it really is weird... the point of that fact is to show that what we think is largely wrong with it comes to particle and quantum physics, and these Tachyons no doubt follow the same rule, we cant explain how or why they work, they just do. so its possible i guess. another theory that i really really like is the black/white hole theory. We all know the theory that if you travel through a blackhole and survive you could end up in another universe or time frame. Where you emerge would be a white hole, so called because its the opposite to the black hole, instead of matter and energy getting sucked in, it gets blown outwards, creating a white hole (because of the light energy it appears as a light source, EG white) Now if this black hole has linked to a new universe this would in effect be a big bang event. So when our universe began this is what happened: In another universe (the parent universe) a blackhole formed. It sucked in matter and energy and spewed it out the other end in a new universe, OUR universe. This was the big bang. As the black hole in the parent universe sucked in matter it was spwed out into our universe it expands and fills up with matter and energy untill the parent black hole evaporates (they do that in time) and the white hole here disappears.Interesting stuff
  23. Im not a god fearing sheep, and so i believe, primarily in the evolution theory, however i think some of it might not be totally right but the spine of it seems right.I dont think the creation theory should be taught in science. It should be taught in religious education. As the comic suggests teaching it in science tells the children this is how the universe started. Its proven, its a fact, if anyone says otherwise they are wrong. After all science class teaches FACTS. Now admittedly the evolution theory hasnt been technically proven except via DNA links but given that it could in theory be tested (leave a thousands birds on an island with all the food underground and no predators and they will soon develop into digging creatures with no ability to fly, by soon i mean a few thousand years ) and it has some proof via DNA it should be taught in science, but the kids should be told that it is a THEORY and has yet to be proven, however it is the most accepted and believed theory and is probably correct. (did you know that the magnetism theory taught in schools, that millions of tiny magnets inside the magnet line up north-south, is actually not proven, it is only a theory and science doesnt full understand how magnets work? )and the creation theory should ONLY be taught during RE classes when learning about christianty, and the muslim view should be taught when learning about Islam etc....
  24. Thats extremely homophobic. Why does it matter if people are gay? Im not gay, and i wouldnt like two gay men to walk up to me butt naked and start oiling themselves in front of me....but that is unlikely to happen unless i venture into certain clubs in soho (london) on a friday night. So i have nothing to fear from gay people. I know who, and what, i am. If you are afraid of gays i suggest you take some time to look inwards and discover who and what you really are. When you can write down exactly who and what you are you will no longer fear or hate gay people. along with that gay people have the same rights as straight people. to say different is being narrow minded and ignorant. However, i do agree that there are issues when gay people have children because of the things other children may say and it COULD confuse the child, i do think that every child needs a male and a female influence in their lives, such as mum and dad, this gives balance rather than living with two same sex parents in which case the child may think the opposite sex is inferior, or there is something disgusting about then and this could lead to problems later on. To say gay people have no right to have children is irresponsible. To say there are problems that need to be looked at is much more sensible and accurate.
  25. I do try! you are right, i did mean collapsing stars!! This is true. However on the link i posted i think it goes over this and says that by the time they are able to react to make more strangelets they have already decayed or transformed into normal matter. I cant remember exactly but they said the strangelets wont get a chance to take over the earth.
