No faulty.lee, it looked like normal safe mode.Darasen, how/where do I ask Microsoft?
-
The command prompt safe mode wasn't any different to safe mode, in look or progress. If I did get slax/knoppix (buy a cd for £3-5?) how would I put back what I think is a zip file into the registery through what must be a windows only program, or copy the ~50gb off, with a broken cd writer?
-
I couldn't get task manager, I don't have a windows disk, and Ubuntu live doesn't see the hard drives. I will try the SafeCmd tommorow, thank you. If it matters, XP SP2.

I was cleaning out my 140mb of registery, after backing it up, and now the computer won't work, if I log in the desktop background shows, but nothign else, then it logs out and freezes on "saving settings". The backup, and program to re-instate it are on the computer, but even safe mode doesn't work. I was using programs like RegCleaner, which was telling me thousands of entries were invalid. What can I do?

I use MP3DirectCut, first result on google.

So, I Want To Try Out Linux. What do I need?
toby replied to Senor_Grunt's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Linux is kinda pre unix, in a way. It split off from unix before GUI (I think).Imo, Livecds and virtualizing iso's are your friends. -
The only spyware is an optional advert, which is now off by default. I got it back yesterday, after accidently adding the spyware last time, and I really love it.

I would never ever trust an exe, or even a rar from limewire. It is possible this could work, but I wouldn't recommend it.
-
You'll never need it, some of your favourite programs need it. If you can, if you're not tied down by other users, it'd be worth researching unix-os compatability/alternatives, or even if the programs you want work with wine.
-
You could use regex, like "/\wcar\w/i", I think \w is the opposite of \W, which is alphanumeric, then whatever your languages version of regml(0) is.

Check and clean all fans. Sorry for short post, but everything else has been said. Pick torrents, not limewire, etc.

No, but any genies or xp earnt in p2p will still affect your recovery in f2p, even after your members runs out.
-
I use it for odd file types, and I'll try its recording soon. Definitely worth getting.

I'm happy to stick to the smaller games my computer can handle, and generally ones that I can listen to whatever I want (Radio1). So its stuff like Playray, Runescape, Elf bowling, many driving games that I've forgotten the name of (I got Need For Speed 2SE with this computer and it's still good).

I found multihoming on Wikipedia, it appears to be fairly pointless between dialup and ipv6. Thanks, time to damn the copper in the streets.
-
When dialup was common, I heard about people connecting two phone lines so it was faster. Could I do that with broadband, the router delivers 12mbps, but I get about 2.5, and I have a extra cable.
-
Thanks, I'll try it and report back.
-
I have that and the C/C# one, only keeping it because it took so long to download and install. Put off learning the languages because of easier ones like msl.

Are there any good british versions/alternatives?
-
I'm english and I talk to a lot of americans and other country people and I've never heard them. Most rumours are just colourful history. Things like what side of the road you drive on, like a lot of the world when horse-drawn carts were new and the only way around, north western Europe owned a lot of the world, so when England went on one side, France did the opposite, then when countries gained independance they changed just to be different.

I've downloaded about 6 Os's that total about 1.1 gig, so plus music and documents, 4gig is probably what I'll get. Thank you, it seems there are keys for Partition Magic, but the 'free trials' are fake.
