  1. i really doubt its anything to do with your video card, or anything hardware related, but to make sure (if you have the parts laying around) just swap out everything, run it barebones: no ram no gfx card, 1 hd, etc.) then start swapping out what you haven't yet, psu/gfx card, etc. with ones from another computer.you might be able to reinstall windows (if the problem is software, which imo it is) without doing a reformat, that should fix the problem/
  2. you can try the "use agent switcher" extension for firefox. (make it appear to the site as if you are using ie.) also theres an extension for firefox that opens a link in ie... not quite sure what your looking for though.
  3. do you have the various language packs installed/enabled from microsoft? you need to dl a patch/update inorder to get non-english fonts to function normally iirc.
  4. hmm, imo the only thing you can do at this point is format. since it crashes at the exact same point (it is, right?) then it can't be faulty hardware. when you boot up (im not overly familar with xp, sadly) pick the option to create a bootlog.txt. (if you can)then in dos promt (again if you can, xp isn't my forte) read it using the "edit" command. (edit c:\windows\bootlog.txt or something similar) to see where it fails, and if it fails at the same point. In anycase a format "should" fix it, but there might be a way to avoid it. (a .dll might've got corrupted, your registry might've been *BLEEP*ed by something, etc, which you might be able to replace with a backup.)
  5. Not the newest thing in the world, but if nothing else I can say that it really does work. Back when i did it everything loaded much faster, sites that would normally take a day and a half (deviantart.com for example) would load in a much more timely fashion.though now-a-days i've been spoilt, since i've had my firefox "tweaked' for some time now.
  6. To be honest I doubt it will be that great of an improvement. If you look at longhorn, (sounds much better than vista imo) the only really changes are graphical. Microsoft is focusing on the "wow" factor, trying to make a market for fancy graphics and effects where there wasn't before. Imo there isn't much more you can do to a media player at this point that will make it more useful, without the cost of system resources.in any case i use winamp, if only because its not made by microsoft.
  7. The usual applies: don't be stupid, don't give out your pass, don't put your pass as a start-up script. (for q on quakenet, for example.) odds are it won't be encrypted, don't dl any viruses, etc.Basically, make sure no one can get ops that you can't personally vouch for. at least not without a failsafe.
  8. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ lots and lots of useful things would probably be a better idea for like games, so that you can open (par example) xfire and cs at the same time, with one click/a few keystrokes.
  9. I disagree with teaching intelligent design in school: it is not science. It very clearly has a religious base, and thus its teaching is disallowed. (can't remember the case name atm) But even if it wasn't considered a "religious" entity, teaching it would open up a very big can of worms, after all if something that isn't science (and has no particular value that sets it apart from other non-scientific theories) then the schools should have to split their time among other deviant theories, such as the one held by The Church of the Giant Flying Spaghetti Monster
  10. notepad :(always best to know/learn what your coding rather then just placing a few pictures and having the machine do the rest. (that said, im a lazy sob and use dreamweaver myself.)
  11. really nice site. first truely orginal one i've seen in a long time.though for the point of immersion you might want the content on the site to be displayed piece by piece as if it was an im conversation. wouldn't be the easiest thing in the world to code though.
  12. its the top ten off of http://www.xfire.com/ so the number is not wholly accurate (i'd imagine more fps players use xfire then mmo players.)only one out of them that i play is war3, used to play a wee bit of css though on my oh so crappy comp. (part of the reason i don't play it so much any more.)
  13. Agreed with above, it is a bit light >.< (though i suppose theres only so much you can do about that and stick to the theme)also it kind of abruptly ends at the bottom. should do something about that if you can.
  14. opera may be head and shoulders above ie (what isn't?) but imo theres no reason to switch off from firefox.
  15. http://www.g00g13.com/ is the best imo. The best thing about google is unlike most other companies, they have a sense of humor. https://www.google.com/moon/ for instance. (zoom all the way in ) also they always change there logo to reflect the holidays/some famous anniversary to liven things up a bit. (not to mention last i checked their stock was going at 400ish a share)
  16. I want to try that, though preferably with some kind of radiator/cooler. (maybe run a circulating pump and pump it through a coiled pipe sumberged in some ice water I wonder how much overclocking it could take before the processor fries. oil doesn;t have as good a thermal conductivity as a heat sink (both maybe?) but there is a lot of it so it will hold a whole lot more than a little heatsink.
  17. T-mobil has the best phones imo, but the connection is utter crap. From what i've heard verizon is the best, but cingular would probably be a close second, might be worth trying if you've had a bad experiance with verizon.
  18. flip, definatly.other then the notrandomly calling people thing, they also are generally smaller. BUT they are larger when opened up. It just feels weird when i try to call with a "flipless" phone because the microphone is on my cheek somewhere. At least with my flip phone im sure what im saying is getting received well enough.plus you can play with them by repeatedly fliping them open and shut.
  19. Too bad all the phone companies are trying to be the next microsoft: they all want their phones to run THEIR products with THEIR file formats and to hell with the rest of the world. Not to mention they want to charge us up the nose for it i mean would it kill them to put a usb port on the side instead of forcing us good honest citizens to buy a 20$ connecter, just so we can circumvent five dollers a tone ringtones and payout the nose-per-play games.(i wonder if i could get like half-life or cs working on my cellphone, god only knows it probably has enough processing power...)
  20. I highly doubt there is a major saftey risk, the radiation one would recieve is utterly miniscule when put into comparison with our normal daily exposure. Most of which comes from the sun. Also its safe to say that there is no short term risk from exposing one's self to cell phones, else there would be a reasonable trend forming by now showing people who are long time cell phone users dropping by the wayside. or more likely, having 3 eye'd babies, and testicular cancer. (hopefully not both at the same time.)
  21. Starcraft, definatly. As far as i know its the only game out of those that is remotly active in terms of a community and "pro" scene. Heck sometimes there arem ore people on starcraft then warcraft III, which is a much newer game. (can't speak for thel ikes of age of empires 3 or warhammer 40k/etc. though.)for a 2nd i'd pick half-life, just becasue i had so much fun playing that game, not to mention it legitimized modding with counter strike, paving the way for many other great mods.as a runner-up (not on the poll ) Goldeneye for N64. I have had more fun playing goldeneye then probably anyother game back in its day, so many good memories.
