  1. everyone has their own particular "taste" that we like. I think it's just about respect. Just because it's his house doesn't mean he has all the control. To each is his/her own, as they say. Others like spicy with sour, I don't. It makes things, or in this case, people, interesting, don't you think?
  2. lol whoever voted for me, thanks! mike notified me earlier regarding this one. i wasn't really expecting to win an award, better yet, i didn't expect to get nominated. hahahaha! i usually watch youtube for funny stuff like spoofs or music videos and all.again congratulations to all the winners and let's wait for it to rain credits yay!
  3. well people who read the comics version are already thinking that the series is going to end as the writer (Kishimoto) is already killing a lot of characters and from the plot, it seems that it's already on its end. some people just need to look beyond the "sasuke is so hot" or "kakashi is so cool" stuff and focus on the story itself. you'll be surprised how much the story has changed since the start. actually i've read somewhere that there was a kid that got killed imitating the "techniques" one of the characters did in the show. he had his friends bury him in the sand to recreate the technique done by one of the characters but ended up suffocating. it was unfortunate that the medics weren't able to revive him.
  4. The reason why herbs and spices are dried is for the flavor to get concentrated and of course for them to last longer in your shelf. Aside from the fragrance, as Jim mentioned, you could also determine if the spice/herb is no longer of use by its "strength". If it doesn't give that much effect on your dishes anymore, then you can start replacing them. I don't know about estimate as to how long it should be kept in your cabinets or cupboards, though, but for me, I usually throw them away if they're not used for about half a year. It would also help if you buy "according to your usage", meaning the more common you use it, the higher the quantity you buy. In that way, you won't end up having that guilty feeling of whether you want to throw the thing or not.
  5. You do know I'm from the Philippines, right? Care to specify? I don't see why it wouldn't be fair to start over again. All it needs is a reset and ask for people to re-enter their votes, this time, hopefully taking into consideration the error that was presented in the first version of the poll. What's unfair with that? I would have accepted your argument if you said it would be hassle to re-vote again. If you were busy, like probably the rest of us who are working already, you could probably ask some help from other members of the forum who would gladly assist you. I don't see anyone who's so excited in having their votes cast, so I don't see what there's supposed to be a rush in making a poll and not taking into consideration the possible worst case scenario. If it would be the case, I'd rather use the forum's poll since it centers to having a username-specific vote (e.g., one forum member can only vote once). You also have to consider the fact that the total number of votes would differ in each poll, as members, as you've said, probably don't understand the category or they just don't like to vote in the category (like what I did in some of the polls), unless you specify that each member should secure a vote in every category. I don't think these simple rules aren't too hard to follow and I believe most of the members here are quite level-headed enough to understand such.
  6. eh? why not just start from the top? I'd prefer resetting the poll and everyone putting their votes again instead of you saying "I've deducted some points to everyone to make things fair and let's start from there". I don't see the fairness in that. I'm not saying this because I don't trust you or anything, the whole point is you can't just stop in the middle of the voting and just manually alter the votes yourself. Even using the IP address as a basis of you deducting vote counts doesn't prove that someone has entered multiple votes. Other users have dial-up access which gives them the ability to change their IP addresses, others could also use computer rentals, which have a different address that what they've used in their home computers or laptops.
  7. Humans aren't necessarily the MAIN cause of global warming, it's just that we contribute too much to the progression of it. Before, global warming was caused by the gases expelled by volcanoes that continually erupt and change the face of the planet. Those gases contribute to the increase of the temperature of the atmosphere and thus the continuous melting of the caps (and the rise of the sea level). It's a cycle that continuously happen over time. With the development of technology, humans don't realize that they're already affecting the environment. It's ignorance in our part not to notice such stuff, only when it's too late when we try to act.
  8. I think respect is the key here. If you don't like what they watch, then don't. No need to go all out just to bash people. Remember, to each is his/her own. I personally like Naruto because of the whole 'acceptance' thing, but I think with the timeskip and the characters growing up (I'm talking the comics version here, not the animated series), the story has become more serious, which is a good thing, the only bad thing about the series is that I think the creator (Kishimoto) is hanging the readers too much. I've noticed a decrease in pages in each week's chapter compared to when it started. Moreover, the progress of the story has become slow. As I've said, to each is his/her own. The word 'good' is a matter of perspective. What might be good to you might not be good to somebody else. What if I told you right now that I don't think Ranma 1/2 is good? How would you react? It's one thing to get pissed at people that only watches the show, but claiming to to be the "most wretched" thing is a bit over the top. Naruto is one of the popular series in Japan and probably in most parts of the world. Most people think it's cool with all the chakra and techniques seen on the show (as most of the fighting-type series we've seen before), but others look beyond that. I liked the series, as I've mentioned, because of the loner-becomes-noticed-and-appreciated theme of the show. It's the growth of the main character of the series that most people want to see, and whether he would really achieve his goal in the end, that's why most people are hooked. A lot of series, animated or not, that I see on TV right now came from Japan. The ever popular sentai series, Power Rangers, the Dragon Ball saga, to name a few. If I said Dragon Ball is annoying, I bet people would get mad at me as well. Have you seen the subtitled version? Have you seen the comics version? Indeed, the translation can be blamed for that. But there are some things that should be considered in translating these series. There are words that might be too vulgar or too harsh for a child to hear, which are changed to a less-vulgar translation. Sometimes, they entirely cut the scene because it's too morbid, which sometimes, it affects the storyline. This is to break the common notion of what a ninja really is, probably to make the show a bit more colorful, in the literal sense. When someone asks what a ninja looks like, most people would probably describe them as those wearing dark blue/black suits, with their heads covered and having swords in their back. In a world where most of the characters are ninjas, I think it wouldn't be that much interesting if they are all wearing the same thing.
  9. I didn't know I was nominated until I was voting. Hahaha. Thanks, to whoever nominated me. I have a question though, does the voting system take note if you have voted to the category already? Because I noticed that once I started voting on the next category, the previous category goes back to the form instead of just showing the results (as it should). I know I'm not supposed to be thinking of people rigging the system by voting themselves more than once (I assume you're all honest enough---hey, I didn't vote in the category I was nominated, just FYI), and I know this is all for fun as well, but being careful isn't bad.
  10. I'll go with my given name and my forum name (not that the latter matters, hahaha. But we'll see). Some parts were not me, and at a certain level, both letters tend to be a bit contrasting with each other. However, most of it were correct, I must say, almost accurately described who I am. Funny and freaky in a way, especially the part "your choices are VERY GOOD and can only lead to trouble" part. HAHAHAHA! my goodness! how straight to the point! Now this is a bit different from the other two earlier. I don't know how much of it relates to me though, especially not lately. hahahaha!
  11. I have a friend and he smokes but he's got a set of amazingly white teeth. I asked him before he goes to the dentist and he said no. He even thanked me for reminding him so he would go to the dentist and have his teeth cleaned. He mentioned that he just brushes his teeth three times a day every after meal. I didn't believe him initially since I do brush my teeth three times a day as well (but I don't have the same "white teeth") as him so I asked him the brand of toothpaste he uses, thinking that it was his secret of getting white teeth. To my surprise, he said that he uses a local brand, the same thing I normally use.
  12. I don't have like an Ultimate favorite song, as I tend to have favorites depending on my current situation like a "song of the moment". I think I have mentioned before that my then favorite song was KT Tunstall's "Through The Dark" since it applied to what I was experiencing back then. Right now, my current song is Joss Stone's "Right To Be Wrong". I like the song because it tells me that it's ok to make mistakes, just know how to learn from them. lyrics courtesy of azlyrics.com
  13. I don't know if you only use baking soda in cleaning your teeth, but there's also a way to do that not only with baking soda. You have to mix baking soda with a squeeze of lemon (we only have a local version here in my country---it's called calamansi or lemoncello) and bubbles will form that you could use to brush your teeth. The taste might be too much, though. I've also seen before that you could mix baking soda with hydrogen peroxide (which is a chemical also found in whitening products) to whiten your teeth. I've tried it before but I really disliked the taste in my mouth. For more info, you could check this topic I made. It's not all about teeth though. Here
  14. yes happy easter to those who will celebrate it. well we celebrate the lenten season differently in our country, it's more solemn and sad because we focus on the death of Christ on the cross and then celebrate his rising from the dead on the last day, which is a symbolism of renewal to most catholics.I however am on shift on holy week... hahahaha oh well.
  15. I haven't watched the video yet since I'm at work but I think the descriptions are enough for me to have a say on this one. Personally, I find it disturbing that these soldiers are doing such stuff to harmless creatures, whether it's because they're just doing it for fun or maybe they're really twisted, obviously those aren't unintentional. So you mean killing animals for the purpose of ending their misery because of "most likely that they're disease-ridden anyway" is just okay as compared to killing people? What did a harmless pup do? Bark the soldier to tears? Heck, I'd rather be sympathetic to a stray cat or dog in the corner than to a beggar who has the energy to lift an arm and ask for alms yet doesn't want to exert an effort to earn money his own way. Just because Vietnam was worse, doesn't make "killing animals for fun" a reasonable explanation for a behavior of a soldier. You're right in a sense that anyone who knew they have killed someone could lose their sense of self, but only a weak soul would be driven into insanity of having a lust to kill, human or not.
  16. oh no! mike's on almost every category on the list!!! he's going to take it all!!! hahahaha! anyways, good luck to all the nominees this year and advanced congratulations to the soon-to-be winners.
  17. Well there's a possibility that it might happen, but I don't think you'd have to be that paranoid and avoid the possibility of eating out ever again. You just have to make sure that you're eating at a place that is clean and well-maintained. You could check if they have some sort of certification that the place was well-checked with regards to the cleanliness, and of course that also applies to the way they handle, cook, and serve food. Of course, there's nothing better than self-prepared food. It doesn't have to be fancy, but at least you can control what you put in your mouth. Not only that, you could also adjust the taste to your own liking, most fast foods would probably taste more or less salty than what one prefers.
  18. Hahahaha! It's so funny seeing this topic after a day of singing during our company outing yesterday. I woke up earlier today with a sore throat and a hoarse voice after singing my heart out last night... you know, videoke and all. And now I don't want to talk much because my throat hurts to think that I'm at work making calls to customers...Anyway, with regards to the topic, like what serverph said, drink warm ginger tea. If you find it too strong, put honey or sugar to sweeten it. Gargling with warm water (with dissolved salt) will also ease the pain. There are also over-the-counter medicines that you could gargle to get rid of the soreness.Hope that helps.
  19. yo mermaid! it's time for american idol. who's your bet today? lemme guess, it's danny, right? hehehe just kidding :P

  20. Well this is a great idea. I've seen a lot of members before complaining as to why they can't post in the hosted members area, considering that they find some of the topics there interesting. I guess it would help both sides, and especially those hosted members who want some answers from members other than hosted members themselves. it would be very beneficial to the forum and increase its interactivity.
  21. I don't know... I haven't been an Iron Man fan. I've only seen him in Capcom arcade games. Moreover, I'm not really a Robert Downey fan. But we'll see. My co-worker has connections, so we can watch premieres for free. Hopefully this one would be include. I would want to see Dark Knight more, after Heath's death.
  22. well you could always have a paid hosting account. it would be preferable if you don't have too much time in your hands and can't go to the forum to keep up your credits.
  23. that's sad to hear. our female dog (i won't use the b word) just had puppies last year and I was so excited because it has been a long time since we had a puppy in the house. to make it even more interesting, she gave birth to three puppies, one with black spots and two all black puppies. I've always wanted to have a black dog. all of the sudden, the puppies became sick and one died after the other. I was devastated and couldn't even save one of them. I was even consulting sheepdog here in the forums as to how I could try and prevent them from getting sick and dying. imagine, seeing those puppies on Thursday, with one puppy dying per day for three days for the next three days.
  24. I would rather have a lean, slightly-built body than a too buff body. For some reason I find weight-lifters a bit disoriented (for lack of a better term). they have these big, buffed-up bodies that aren't so proportional with the other parts of the body, like the head, for example.but anyways, with regards to this topic, i think you're too fascinated with the anime stuff. Routines at the gym aren't that bad, just don't push it too much. about the height thing, that's what I was telling my friends when they were encouraging me to go to the gym. I'm pretty much afraid I'll lose some of my height when I go off to excert a lot of effort carrying some heavy metal.
