  1. Despite the recent problems, I still feel that Xisto is the best free host around. Some, however aren't far behind. For instance, Core-Fusion, my previous host, had excellent features. However, their support staff are poor at best. It took them a long time to change my account type, after they changed their post to host system (once it was based on quality posts number of letters, now it's using postcount), in fact, I'd moved to Xisto before they changed it. Then there are some slightly better ones, such as byethost, however, as mentioned by the above poster, they occasionally redirect you to their pages, making permanent use of it unfeasible at best for large sites. Freewebs is vile and disgusting. It lacks so many features, and when I see a site hosted on it, I instantly ask the owner to get better hosting. Geocities is almostas bad. Huge advertisements are an irritation, and again, lack of features.

    Dual Boot How To

Partitioning should never could loss of data. Anyways, you get a partition program, resize your main partition to about half it's original size, and create a new NTSF or FAT32 partition in the newly freed space. Install windows vista, and specify the new partition as where it should be installed. Not very hard at all.
  3. I'm not sure if life after death exists. Being an atheist and agnostic, I don't really think a life after death can exist. However, if there isn't, what happens after death? If there is nothing, and you cease to exist, then you would not be aware there was anything, but then you couldn't exist, yet you would have to. It's a strange paradox.
  4. According to my research, service pack 3 was made for the purpose of adding more possible licence keys to Windows XP, and not to add any features.
  5. As others have said, Xisto is a forum intended for proper discussion, mainly on technology and computer based subjects (though news, politics, and economics are frequently discussed here too), whereas Xisto is for more off-topic discussion, is more lenient on spamming rules, and covers many other subjects, such as music, and as buffalohelp mentioned, dating.
  6. The "park your domain again" trick worked for me, and I managed to regain my site's visitors. Thanks for the help.

    My Works

  8. Now I'm extremely confused. Last time I checked, we had to use Xisto - Web Hosting nameservers no matter whether we were paid or free.
  9. I decided CSS tutorials by me would be interesting. This is the first part of the tutorial, in this, I will be posting some basic information on CSS Syntax, and of course a "Hello World" example to get readers started on CSS. But first, a quick introduction. HTML Tags, like <h1>, <table>, and <p>, were originally meant for showing content on a web page. Back in the days of pre-html 3.2, layouts were dynamically made by the browser and contained nothing but a white background and centred text. Soon though, owners of websites wanted to do the layout themselves. Soon, Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator, the leading browsers of the time, added more tags like <font> onto the original specification of HTML. Because all browsers had different supported tags, there were no standards and pages would almost certainly look incorrect in different browsers. The World Wide Web Consortium, referred to as W3C from now on, created Styles in addition to HTML 4.0 itself. Now for some actual learning. Here is the syntax of CSS which I shall describe: selector {property: value;} The selector controls what HTML tag will be affected, or what DIV class will be affected. The property controls what in the tag will be changed, for instance color as a property sets the text colour. Value is the value of the property you want, like red in the case of the colour property. A quick example: body {color: blue;} The above code would change the colour of text in a web page to blue. Of course, you'll probably be wondering how you can use CSS in a web page. I provide you below the coding you'll need <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Workshop 1</TITLE><STYLE> Â #CSS GOES HERE#</STYLE><BODY>#MAIN CONTENT GOES HERE#</BODY></HTML> More coming soon!
  10. It's been days and my site is still down, the domain pointing to the old IP address. Due to the nature of my site, which is still working to gain more viewers, I doubt it'll be visited much anymore unless this is resolved soon.
  11. Most likely there will be problem. The many slots for DNS servers are, beyond the first 2, just lower priority ones, if I'm correct. Also, whilst some hosts do support domains which are using different DNS servers with the A-Record pointed to the host, I don't think Xisto allows it.
  12. In features purely, cPanel beats zpanel by many thousands of miles, of course, many intellectual people are begininning to dislike commercial software, including me, so in licencing, zPanel wins. In easiness to webmasters to install, zPanel once again wins, as having used it before, I found it very easy to install, in fact, versions older than v3 are as easy to install as IPB or SMF.
  13. I read about this on Snopes, it's quite interesting how some MPs, mainly in australia, actually requested it to be banned. Apparently a foam container for a town celebration in the US somewhere was not used because it contained Dihydrogen Monoxide. A good joke to fool people, seeing as I am in high school, I'll try and trick some people with it, next time we need to do a chemistry-related presentation.
  14. I'm pretty sure that's because the whole gamma server is offline, hopefully all the problems will be fixed soon.
  15. Senor Grunt is correct, Game Maker 7.0 is extremely easy to learn, but also powerful. I learnt how to use it very quickly, though this may be because I had programming knowledge before. In my case, I jamp in, right into 3D programming without and previous pratice, and studied tutorials and examples. After that, the knowledge I gained made it possible for me to make a nice 3D engine. Since you don't seem to have much previous programming experiance, it may be more difficult for you, but not too hard.
  16. Comcast seem a pretty poor ISP judging from that. But anyway, the first torrent program I used was uTorrent, it's very good, not too complex, and I would rate it an eight out of ten, it's also got useful other features which make it even better.
  17. I recently made 2 steam cannons, one with a friend, and one on my own, and since they work well, I thought I'd post instructions here on how to make one.The first things you'll need are 2 lengths of 15MM Copper Piping. You also need 2 spanners, something to heat the cannon with, and a pipe stopper, and a valve (one with a handle for opening/closing).Now, the actual guide:Get your first piece of copper pipe, and attach the pipe stopper to one end, and the valve to the other. Connect a second copper pipe to the end of the valve.Very simple, and to set it off,Pour water into the unclosed copper pipe and close the valve. Heat up the closed off tube (now things get dangerous, use some safety equipment), and after a while, release the valve. A load of steam will come flying out. You can put a bit of a potato in the copper pipe to send it flying.DISCLAIMER: I take no responsibility for any accidents caused by this. Do it at your own risk.
  18. Not a bad set of signatures. I particularly like the blurry, speedy effect of the team fortress 2 sig. Both of the scorpian signatures are also nice.I rate them all, in general, 8.5/10.
  19. Ah, old RPG maker, I remember making games in it, back in 2006 to 2007. It's pretty powerful, and this is a pretty good tutorial for teaching the basics, however I feel it could be expanded upon.
  20. As far as I know there are no free flash-style programs, but you may be interested in Inkscape. It's only for graphics and not animations but it's similiar to flash in drawing and you could do an animated gif if it was little animation.
  21. The first thing to try, is of course, as others have mentioned, a live CD. But before that, google up information on your hardware, to see if they're compatible. I had a useless suse installation a while ago because I didn't do that step.
  22. Hello, This is my first tutorial at Xisto. It covers how to make a simple template system, which I use in some of my software. To start, we need a page that will be the template itself. For this tutorial, below is a very simple one: <HTML><HEAD><TITLE> PHP Template System </TITLE></HEAD><BODY><H1> <?php echo $content; ?> </H1></BODY></HTML>Save this as template.html Next, the php, also very simple: <?php$content = "Test";include "template.html";?>You'll notice the variables $content contains the content of the page you wish to appear. This coding is simple and can easily be expanded on, for instance, you could use GET to have multiple pages, or have sidebars and add extra variables for them. It's simple coding, but it's not bad either.

    Best Forum System

For those as lucky as me, IPB 1.3 is a great forum software. The reason I said lucky is because it's no longer availible, however those that downloaded it during it's free period got a great piece of software. Aside from that, PhpBB is good, due to it being open source, and comes in second, SMF isn't fully open source, but's it's close and good enough for most people, and is secure and powerful, so I award it 3rd place, and that's all my opinions.
  24. The wii, in my opinion, though many will disagree, is essentially little more than a 'Family Noob Machine'. It has very few games that are actually truly serious, the name is ridiculous, and it's underpowered, and whilst some will say making dedicated games consoles rather than entertainment centre style devices is good, it's just not enough to be accepted properly nowadays. The PS3, whilst very powerful, is extremely expensive, and many people dislike sony after them launching lawsuits in 27 european countries to bleed Lik-Sang to death. Microsoft isn't particularly liked much either, however in my opinion the Xbox 360 is a good choice for gaming. It's more powerful than the Wii, though less than the PS3 admittedly, and whilst many say a DVD of 8GB isn't enough for good games of the future, anything more than 6GB for a game qualifies for failure of compressing it properly and coding efficiantly. One thing I dislike about teh Xbox 360 though is the lack of a built-in browser, but PC connectivity makes up for that.
  25. I have been using Ubuntu 7.10 for about a month now. My experiance began when I sent a request for a free CD to be mailed to me. Several weeks later, it arrived, however I was reluctant at first to install it, as there was much hassle when I attempted to install my BCM43xx wireless network drivers for another distro, Suse. Although I had ran a server on Linux for a while previously, it was easy to do as Linux automatically detected the wireless network card I was using. This was on an older computer that I ran the server. On my current pc, a Dell Inspiron 1300 Laptop, a Broadcom wireless adapter was used, which usually required a lot of work to get running. I decided to google how to install the drivers on Ubuntu, out of curiosity. The instructions were very simple, and unlike other distro's guides, it didn't assume I already had an internet connection with Linux (a very silly assumption, since few people will be using multiple network adapters) and gave me a few files to download, then run. I decided to give Ubuntu a try, seeing as it seemed so simple. It gave me a little hassle at first, but after that, it worked great. I then opened FireFox, and to my surprise, a google search returned results. I then went to my forum and posted about my switch. I soon learnt some basic command prompt work, and now, 1 month later, I'm doing very well with Linux.I would rate Ubuntu 8.5/10. There is room to improve in some respects, but all in all it is a great distro & I recommend more people switch to it.
