  1. I was on my second or third yaer at university, when I started designing websites. I was a fan of this blond female acoustic singer from United States (and still I am) and I was amazed by so much number of websites dedicated for her. And so, I decided to have my own and join the bandwago. I don't have background on computers that time but because I was taking architecture, I have more advantage on lay-out and designing.I started reading my cousine's basic HTML book, where you encode the codes using note pad for me to have an idea on how those scripts work. Then, I've seen my cousin design websites using that one from Netscape (I forgot what it is called). Because that was a WYSIWYG program, the designing has been easier. But I was not satisfied with how it went. I want the website to have frames so visitors won't have to scroll all the way down. So I search the internet and found more stuff on that. then, other prorams followed - Cascadind Style Sheets, Javascripts, Microsoft Frontpage Express, Adobe Photoshop and Imageready and now I am strating to study Macromedia Flash and Dreamweaver.
  2. Instead of finding an online tutorials and books about Macromedia Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks you should first try to read and learn from the software HELP pages. They are very useful especially for a beginner like you. Most of the Help pages of Macromedia products are created on Flash Animation, so it is faster to load than downloading online tutorials (especiall if you have a dial-up internet connection). And when they created these help pages, they made it simple to understand and follow.Remember: you do not have to go farther, because you have the the basics at your own hard driveAfter doing that and learning the basics, you can then find other advanced tutorials on the internet. this is what I do, I learn those more advanced teqchinques and tips online. But I check my own softwares for those simple things.
  3. I am just starting to learn how to create websites using Macromedia Dreamweaver, and I am amazed on how beautiful a website would look when created using Dreamweaver. But I suggest you learn other website building tools like Adome Imageready and Frontpage. If you work as a freelance web designer like me, you MUST know how to use the rest. I have a client right now, and I have designed three lay-out already, which are already working and allmost all the contents included. But they want it simplier!OMG, I designed the first one with Adobe Imageready with all the animations and stuff, and now they want a simple one. So I created another lay-out using Microsoft Frontpage Express, but still they want it more simple and plain looking. So I am now doing it the prehistoric way - using Notepad. But I am doing the graphics and banners in Adobe Photoshop CS. I hope they would like my new lay-out.
  4. Im an Anime person, but I am starting to like like manga because I am practicing rendering comics and anime using Adobe Photoshop CS. So for now no television and anime show, i am busy studying, drawing and redering Mangas. But when I am done doing the rendering I will shift to animation so I will surely be back on loving Anime, because there is nothong more lovely than seeing your Manga drawing come to life through Animation. I will study Macromedia Flash and other 3D programs after learning to render.
  5. I hate Spam and pop-up advertisements! there are so annoying!! Some spammers are so good, they could still enter your inbox even if you have blocked and filtered you mailbox plenty of times. I especially hate those email which states "You need this to enlarged to penis!" I don't need one" I have above average size penis and I am so much satisfied with it! And those pup-ups that would set themselves into full screen are nothing but Sh*ts! And by the time you have closed them they link you to another pop-up! simple annoying!

    Manga

I am not really a big fan of Manga, I am more of an Anime guy. Manga is the comics while Anime is the cartoon. But recently I got interested into Manga and I am actually looking for some on bookstores. Most Mangas that I have seen being sold here have the Japanese language, so I was not interesrted on buying one. But when I started doing some graphic works lately I realized I needed those things for graphic animation! I am currently practicing some rendering techniques on Anime characters but I do not know much about drawing them. So now I am looking for those Manga to learn more techniques. And some that I have seen are not yet rendered, so those will be nice practice materials. I want to learn Manga and Anime rendering because ther is a big market for animations today.
  7. Since you are a newbie I would also rsuggest GIMP, because it is free, simple to use and learn, and there are some useful filters to use. But if you got extra cash to spend I would definitely recommend Adobe Photoshop, you could try looking for the lower version because I am sure is is so much cheaper now than the Photoshop CS2 version. And check your local bookstores and second hand book shops to look for a Tutorial book about the version that you bought. Since most people have already upgraded to the latest version, they have already disposed off their lower version help books. And the unused books at the bookstore would probably have its price halved or even lower. good luck!
  8. I do not open my Yahoo! Mail account anymore, but because of this post I opened mine to check tho messages to me by Yahoo!. Because I know the official emails from them have some difference from the ordinary emails. It is Bold and highlighted and has the letter "Y" symbol of Yahoo!. Well, this is what I have seen from my past emails. I just do not know if they have changed anything about that.
  9. *clap, clap, clap* Congratulations to oth of you! I have been a member of Trap for more than a year now, and I have seen (or read) how these two guys do their jobs as moderators very well. If I have my memory correct, Wassie has already been an Administror for Trap 17 before, but due to some security reasons Admin OpaQue demoted (the opposite of promoted) Wassie as a Forum Moderator. Again congratulations to both of you!!
  10. I wrote some emails last night and the auto-save is awesome! It saves your message after some seconds and it automatcally shows in your Drafts folder. You don't need a power interuption to test if this new feature working, it actually works! Now the competitors are now asking themselves why didn't they think about that before. hehehe
  11. My SMTP server address is correct, as well as the POP and SMTP ports. My Mcafee firewalls allows the connection for Thunderbird to the internet. what could be the problem.
  12. I just set up Mozilla Thunderbird. It is my first time to use an email client although I have heard of POP3, Microsoft Outlook and Thunderbird along time ago, just that I am too lazy to configure everthing and I thought it was much easier to use a web-based email account like Gmail. My problem now is - I can't send messages from my Trap 17 email account. It says it has a failure connecting to the SMTP server (or the outgoing server). I used correct server url. Does anyone having the same problem? I have downloaded the emails to my PC but I can't send messages.I set up Thunderbird beacuse my client (I design websites), wants his employees to have their own email addresses from their company domain, and I want to know how this thing works before I could create their account. If I can't do it right on my account there would be a big chance that I will be having problems with their emails as well.
  13. I have also experienced those mySQL server downtimes these past days. but Opaque's post was made from Nov 14, 2004. So the recent downtimes may not have anything to do with those email spammers.
  14. Don't feel mad about them. There are people who could not learn easily just by reading books or checking online tutorial site. Most of the time they need hands on helps and actual explainations from the experts. If they ask you questions, it means you are an expert for them. But you could explain to them that if they woun't explore their computers by themselves, they would not learn very well. You should help them with the basics, then let them play around. Just tell them that if their computers explode don't put the blame on you. hehehe
  15. The new feature Auto-save is very helpful to me! I always have problems regarding my dial-up internet connection, and I usually disconnect for some connection failures. Although I am still waiting for that moment when I could test and experience the auto-save function of my Gmail, I am very sure I could save plenty of time encoding the corrupted mail once again. And I do not have to think what was I encoding before the messages were deleted.
  16. I have the same problem, When I was in university I wear black shirts al the time. And though the only black thing in my outfit is my shirt, people mistook me as goth. It is so annoying when they say that I am a member of some sort of evil cult and a few actually said that I don't change clothes! And everything became worse when i started to have dreadlocks, they associated my personality into a drug addiction and pushing when I have not even tried illegal drugs at leats once. prejudice is a not so good thing!
  17. I prefer using Winrar since it can open as well the winzip compressed files. i even made winrar the default program to open those zip files. But there are times when winzip is very useful, like when I am uploading compressed files at my Trap 17 webhost account. I tried uploading Rar file but Cpanel can uncomppressed them, this is the time when I go to the Winzip.
  18. well that is good!! some people are having hard times learning programming, and you are gifted enough to pursue that career! More companies are hiring computer programmers now, and there seems to have so much vacancies that after you have graduated few years from now the positions are very much available. The pay for programmers are way higher than just webdesiging. but you should have as well a talent in designing very nice page lay-outs.To convince your parents, you should do some freelance jobs. get refered by your friends, or from an online community like Trap 17. Ask for a payment and in no time you can show this as a proff that there is indeed a careen in computer progamming.
  19. I am using Front Page but based on what I have been seeing on the internet those websites created and designed using macromedia dreamweaver are far better, although more complexly made, than those created from Front Page. You can easily embed flash animations using Dreamweaver. You can also those flash animations (although a little simple) using Adobe Image Ready, and sice we are comparing between Frontpage and Dreamweaver here I will choose the latter. you can dispose your FrontPage Express program if you have already memorized Dreamweaver.
  20. This is very much possible. not because you are not connected to the internet people cannot trace your where abouts. There is a big posibility that you have a school, Social Security, insurance etc identification, this records could be use by the authority to know your residence. A transaction using you credit card to a store, both online and non-online, can show your place of transactions. Even just using a public pay-phone can be traced. If you have been watching "CSI," "Alias," and "24," you probably know what I am talking about. The FBI, CIA and CTU have the technology to know your identifications and transactions. SCARY!
  21. I also thought that Microsoft Windows 98 is more stable and better than windows XP OS. The XP's theme looks better than the 98, but XP is so slow. until I upgraded to Windows XP Os with service PAck 2, everything is ok now, although some program still load slowwer. My PC does not hang anymore, and I blame my 128MB only memory on why my PC is so slow.
  22. I want to know what you guys can say about the latest lay-out of our university organ's website. this is like version 2, the first lay-out/design could be seen at the archives section. The Flash animation at the splash page loads so slow, I made it using Adobe Imageready CS. I don't have my Macromedia Studio 8 yet. SOme of the articles and messages at the Shoutbox are in Filipino, our language, but Admin OpaQue had allowed me to use our language as long as the site is not 100 percent in local.
  23. I am using a 1024x768pixel screen resolution. this is very helpful especially when I am using Adobe Photoshop program. There are so many pallettes in Photoshop, and they would cover the graphics i am designing if i would use a smaller screen resolution. I Use 800X600 to check if the lay-out of the website that I am designing looks good and not distorted when viewed on that resolution.
  24. I am used to using Windows operating system, and tha is because I have not tried using Macs before. Not even once! but I would like to learn how to use it, because most Graphic Arts and Webdesigning companies uses Mac OS and they prefer people with knowledge on using it when hiring for a job. I am not really sure, but i guess there are significant difereences between the two. I based that on the Adobe Photoshop books that I am reading, there are difference in keyboard shortcuts. And most tutorials on those books are written by OS user Potoshop experts.
  25. Congratulations to all of us!!The competitors are now gone but we are still her going stronger! Most of the guys I know are still here (although most of the have already become moderators an I am not), and just like them I have no plans of changing my free host!
