Hehe ... sorry for bringing up an old post, but this really is hilarious. Pretty good logical reasoning and of course, anyone who's ever seen the Ninja Turtles animated episodes will love this one .

Dont Want To Click To Start Windows XP
abhiram replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well, as long as you're using the computer at home or someplace you don't expect people to barge in and start using your system, I guess it's safe enough to automatically login. I've configured my system to login automatically in both Windows and Linux, because, I'm the only guy who ever uses the system and I lock my room when I'm going out (I stay in a hostel). -
Hold on! The minute you said X=energy, you involved Thermodynamics. And when you say energy, you have to consider the efficiency of the fuel cell and losses due to other factors as well. It no longer remains 'simple chemistry' . For all practical purposes in our daily life, we don't need to consider time dilation for regular objects since it's negligible (unless cars and stuff move at the speed of light). But for a fuel cell, the efficiency, though being quite high when you consider the conversion of Hydrogen to electricity, the overall is quite is low. Here's a page about fuel cells used in cars: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-efficiency/alternative-fuels/fuel-cell4.htm Don't mean any offense, but just meant to say that you can't run a house AND recharge the fuel cell using power from the fuel cell itself. You CAN'T even recharge the fuel cell itself even if you use the power you obtained from the fuel cell directly to recharge it .

All right, since no one posted the actual link to the article, I guess it's upto me . Here you go: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Quite frankly, I didn't know that we enclosures like that were available. For the past year and half I've been using my 160GB IDE drive as an external drive, disconnecting and reconnecting wherevery I went ... home, friend's, cousin's . No problem till date. But I think I'll buy one of those enclosures for my next HDD. I'm gonna buy a 200 GB by the end of this month I think. If I can use it as a regular external hard drive, that'd be awesome.

Q3A huh? One of the all time greats . This game will definitely go down in the annals of history as the most popular multiplayer game. But personally, I'm not crazy about it. I did play for a while, but when I started some of the more difficult modes and playing multiplayer in campus, it became too difficult. I mean, the others on the LAN are so good at it that I kept going into negative frags. So, I stopped playing multiplayer all together and am now only playing MMORPGs (X-Kings) . Of course, I love other First-person and third-person shooters, but only as single player. Multi-player doesn't appeal much to me.

Hey Sid,Whew ... took quite some time to digest everything you said. You've infact given the entire framework, in astonishing accuracy, of exactly what I've done so far minus the file part. Thanks for taking the time to reply in such detail. I appreciate it.Now, you mean to say that it should output the records both, to the browser and also to a file simulataneously. Wouldn't this put unnecessary load on the server? The person using the system will definitely not need to download every page that he views and there are about 5000 records in all. If he chooses to 'view all' records, it'll take more time to display it since it's printing it to 2 places. One way to do what I want is to maybe have a link that passes the exact database query that the current page uses to another php page, which will simply write everything into a file and present a link on the next page for the user to download. Then I can have another link that'll take him back to the page he was viewing. Or maybe I can just open another browser window and give him the link so that he can just close the window to go back to the previous one. But, that's not what I would 'like' to do. I want a link or a form button on every page which when clicked, will send the output to a file and throw the file to the user, WITHOUT any change in what's being shown on the screen. I hope you get the point.@Quatrux:Thanks, but I want the user to be able to get the file without changing the current screen. Obviously, headers work only if used in the beginning of a particular page which means providing a link to another page and that's not exactly what I'm looking for.

Those are some real cool effects. Many people I know don't prefer Linux because it's not graphically attractive. Windows, you can change the themes, effects whatnot very easily. But it isn't so in Linux. With really cool (and useful) eye-candy, Linux will definitely get some push and more people will realise that Linux has some real potential.

I'm working on a project, part of which consists of working with large tables of different kinds. Now, I'm using a page seeking technique which allows you to browse through the records depending on which page you want to see and how many records you want to see on each page. Now, I need a link (or a form button) on each page which, when clicked, will throw a file to the user for download (the download window should popup immediatly) which will give the part of the table, currently being viewed, in CSV format. One way I can think of to generate the file is manually, that is, open an empty file in a temp directory and output everything into it using 'fwrite' in the way I want it. Is there any PHP or MySQL function which gives it directly? But, how do I get the user to download this file? I want it to immediatly open the download window saying "Do you want to download this file" as it does in firefox, rather than take him to another page with a link to the file.Any ideas? Thanks.

PHP Script To Upload A File with password-protection.
abhiram replied to Vyoma's topic in Programming
I've got a similar problem. My campus net proxy blocks all ports except 3128. For file maintanance, I use Net2Ftp. Of course, it allows only uploads of 2mb and tasks which don't take more than 30sec. To get around this, just download the package from their site and extract it to your site. Then edit .htaccess accordingly (I'm not really sure how) to enable uploads of more than 2mb and edit the preferences also. This works fine for me from everywhere. Hope it helps you. It's easier than writing the script from scratch . -
I meant the upload speed of the server that I'm connecting to. If the guy running the server (in Cambodia say) has only a 2mbps connection, my 2gbps connection will at max get me data at 2mbps only right?

A New MORPG Being Made By Me Alone Title Discribes It...

Glad to hear of it . Let us know when it's ready. -
You speak from experience perhaps? But yea, I had that problem. Got a new cable connection at home once and didn't look at the download limit. Just kept downloading and downloading and finished the month's quota in 10 days .

Second Sight No, not the movie with Bronson Pinchot
abhiram replied to Herbert1405241469's topic in Computer Gaming
Hmmm ... maybe. In any case, I've given it up. I guess, i'll just have to wait until I upgrade my computer which might be in another 6-8 months . -
Then, you'll like this. It plays everything ... and works just as well as it does in Linux. Try it out.

DivX player? I didn't even know that that player was meant to be used . I always use MPlayer for windows. Plays everything without even requiring DivX codecs to be installed on your system. And it's very much lighter than Windows Media Player. I think the only thing it doesn't play is RealMedia, but in Linux, it plays that as well. It also plays Quicktime without any troubles. Here's the Link: MPlayer

Totally Free Domain Names - www.uni.cc www.uni.cc
abhiram replied to HellFire121's topic in General Discussion
For some reason, uni.cc just isn't opening for me. I've been trying for the past couple of days, but it just isn't opening. I'm trying out to see if we can get the same thing with freedns.afraid.org. If only I can figure out how to use the parked domains thing in Xisto . -
Wow! 2gbps?!! That's huge! But what's the point if all major connections around the world are not more than 2mbps? The download speed can't be more than the upload speed of the server right?

Wow ... great advice m^e. But gee ... I'm a little low on funds. Could you just lend me some cash for a sledge-hammer and chainsaw? I would have used rocks, but don't want to get my hands all messy. -

The problem is I don't have a console. In any case, here are my specs:AMD 2600+Asus A7N8XVM-400Nvidia Geforce4mx onboard (64MB shared RAM)Nforce2512MB RAM160GB HDD.Get continuous system restarts and mouse is very irritating, especially while firing. The problem persists even when I stopped all possible services for the current hardware profile including NET and CDRW. -
Second Sight No, not the movie with Bronson Pinchot
abhiram replied to Herbert1405241469's topic in Computer Gaming
This game is just terrible . From the start, the controls and mouse movements are just terrible. After all the trouble I went through to obtain a copy, the game seems hardly worth the effort. Let me elaborate in detail.First of all, there was something wrong with the sound. Every dialogue sounded like the Chipmunks. But, after glancing through the README, I updated my nforce2 drivers and the sound was fixed. Then for some very wierd reason, the game is very unstable on my system. I've infact, created a special gaming profile in WindowsXP and stopped all the services (even networking and CDRW) and closed all apps, reduced the graphics to 640x480x60 and switched off the music and sound altogether and tried playing the game. Even then, it restarted like 5 times! And because of that, I had to play the bloody training level 5 times ... from the freaking start because there isn't even a save option! And I can't skip the crazy cutscenes in between. Finally, with great difficult I could finish the training and came to the next level where he searches for the patient records. The AI is just terrible. There's this particular situation where a Surgeon sees me and starts running. But instead of running away or hiding, he runs to and fro between 2 adjacent rooms without even caring about me. I mean, he keeps running to and fro even whether I stand next to him or far away from him!The mouse movement is so bad! I just hate the locking system in the game. When they converted it from PS2 to PC, why didnt' they get rid of the stupid thing. It's so difficult to fire with it when it locks on it's own to whoever it wishes. And once you lock up, the mouse isn't smooth any longer. Switching from target to target is very difficult. Also, the mouse rotation while he's walking isn't free and feels very constrained even during free roam. The graphics are also not that great. I mean, of course the PSI effects and stuff are really cool, but the PDA that pops up when you press TAB is the shittiest looking thing I've ever seen. And the map in the bloody PDA doesn't even refresh if it's open. Everytime you want to refer to the map in the PDA, you have to first exit from the map mode and open again to get your current location. And no HUD map!On the whole, I would say this was one of the worst games I have ever played in terms of controls. The story is pretty cool and the concept is awesome. But everything else sucks! -

Man, the demo is terrible .A 633mb download for just 15min. I mean, I got the hold of the controls and Pfft! It's gone.11 pounds (roughly 800 Rs) is a little too much for my skin ... especially for a game. My folks will have my head if I spend that much for a game! Wonder how I can still get to play it? -
AMD Strikes Back Against Intel anti-trust and skype.
abhiram replied to qwijibow's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Agreed. The problem only starts when the buggers start giving lame excuses like "You'll get gastroenteritis if you drink Pepsi with a McDonald's burger, but you grow taller with a Coke and Burger combo" .
