  1. Macromedia Dreamweaver is my editor of choice as it can do most languages. HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS, ASP, JSP, PHP and ColdFusion. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you need to have a local server with a PHP parser to view the files correctly in a browser after they have been edited. Otherwise you would be forced to upload it to a PHP enabled host to view the updated PHP file.
  2. I feel that phpBB is the most user friendly because its open source and free for use. As a result, its widely used among people on the internet and they should be familiar with it. My second choice would be the Invision Powerboard that this forum uses. I took the liberty of linking you the three different forums so you could see which look you preferred. phpBB vBulletin Invision Powerboard Hope you found this useful and good luck.
  3. I agree with rockgoody. The facial features are what make this portrait stand out. However the background and patterns on the dress are a bit hard on the eyes since they're so similar in color and brightness. However, beautiful work in any sense.
  4. My first experience with a computer was when I as around maybe 7 or 8 in school. I remember we would go to this small computer lab maybe with 10 computers. They were these ancient things but I was too young to know any better. All I can say is that we booted it from those uh.. 5" floppy drives. LOL I don't even know what we did on those things but that was my first experience. It wasn't until later that my parents bought a computer. We didn't know much about them, but they were becoming quite popular. The first computer I owned was an IBM with a 500MHz AMD K6-2 processor, 128MB RAM and a 20Gig HDD. But now I know a lot more about computers and can build my own, well if I had the money.
  5. Out of the two choices, I would have to say Adobe Photoshop CS2 is the better program. It is more robust and has more features, but learning it can be a challenge, or at least for me. I am the most familiar with the Macromedia Fireworks application and find that it suites my needs just fine. However, I believe all three of these programs allow the use of filter plugins which can add to the flexibility. In the end, this is just a question of preference and mine is Macromedia Fireworks (though I'm trying to learn Photoshop CS2).
  6. First of all, I gotta give props to this guy for actually attempting a project like this on his own without much funding. It's quite an ambitious goal, but honestly, I don't think it'll be successful because of the lack of support behind the project. From what I viewed in the videos, they're a long way to arena combat since the Mech can barely walk. Regardless, I'd like to see what kind of progress can be made in this field of science and technology.
  7. I would have to agree with Dmaster on this one. Looking back at the Final Fantasy series, FF VII was a classic. When it debuted on the Playstation console it was a big hit. The story line, mini-games and character development was exceptional. However the other games released following FF VII never exceeded the expectations that had been set. Graphically they had improved, but it didnt provide the hours of fun gameplay that I was accustomed to. As a result, I am not the fan of Squaresoft or Square-Enix that I was once but hopefully Advent Children will change all that.
  8. Personally I feel that the option would be good, however I do understand the need to limit what is provided as it is a free service. The first thing is everyone who meets the 30 credits is guarenteed the service. As stated before in other places, if the packages were upgraded, this is overselling isn't it? If I recall correctly, this is one of the reasons why other places shut down. As for making a more rigorous application process, I don't believe thats what this board needs. It is dependent on a large base of people with different areas of knowledge and increasing the credit limit would drive most people away initially, although not true in all cases.
  9. I personally find Google to be the best search engine out there and have put it as my browser's homepage. The page is simple to use and loads quickly which adds to its appeal. I do however have Yahoo! in my favorites but generally, its used for browsing and surfing for news and other various information. As a result, I will go to Yahoo! for music or movies whereas Google is only there for its search engine and/or Gmail service.
  10. I'm not sure how many people were watching the Discovery Launch coverage, but for those interested, I thought I'd bump this thread to let people know that its been delayed / postponed. I personally was disappointed but they obviously can't afford to make any mistakes this time.
  11. It seems that mobile and wireless is the way to go nowadays. Just look at the new cell phones that are built with a small harddrive to hold mp3s. As the technology gets better, much more information will be stored and made portable. But my opinion is that it wouldnt revolutionize anything. It'll take something farfetched and outrageously unthinkable to change the world.
  12. I feel the same way that everyone else does. EA Sports had control of the market just because of who they are and the quality of the games they produced. But by buying the exclusive rights to the NFL, it leads to some serious questions as to why they needed to. If it was to eliminate the competition then it'll reflect negatively on the image that they're portraying for the EA Sports brand and its the brand that sells in my opinion.
  13. For playing mp3s, I prefer to use Winamp. I find that it doesnt use a lot of memory so I can always have it in the background. However for movies or video, I find Windows Media Player to be very useful. Just the fact that it will play most files if I have the correct codec installed. However for streaming videos from the internet, I prefer to use Quicktime. I find that the image quality is better but not all websites use it so I'm content with WMP. I however refuse to use RealPlayer or anything associated with it since there generally is a Windows Media alternative to the content I need to view.
  14. Upgrading the current system is possible, but not the route I would take. As stated, a new motherboard is definitely needed. However, if you wanted to go with the DDR2 and PCI-express, much of the hardware you currently have would not be reusable. You could opt to upgrade the system slightly, but that would only last you for so long. In the end, the only other alternative is to find a system that does not include a monitor so you could reuse the LCD display or purchase an entirely new computer and use the old one for backup or storage.
  15. Its funny that you used that specific example Loganbest. I personally am using a Dell Inspiron 6000, but I chose to go with a slight upgrade to the Pentium M 1.6GHz with 1Gig of DDR2 RAM and a 60Gig HDD. I purchased this to be a Desktop replacement as I am off to college soon. Performance is everything that I had expected. It runs quite well especially with the ATI x300 Mobility graphics card. Anyway, thats just the option that I took, but I hope you find what you're looking for.
  16. Generally when I am searching around for new hardware to purchase, Pricewatch.com is the first place I go to for a ballpark figure on what you can expect to pay. Usually there are good deals listed. However I found that Newegg.com is probably the best source of to find good deals. In the past, I have used ZipZoomFly.com (which was previously Googlegear.com) to purchase hardware and found that they had good customer support. Although lately I now prefer Newegg.com as they have a wider variety of products and selection.
