A Note To All Illegal Windows Xp Owners
Grafitti replied to prosorcerer's topic in Websites and Web Designing
yeah right, and how is microsoft going to change that sysinfo so that no one will be able to hack? let's take a look at their track record. it sucks. of course that's because they're the most popular OS...it would be the same for Linux or Mac if they were as common. every fix that comes out, the hackers are always one step ahead. read about the hacker wars microsoft hosted? the hackers broke through. i think the more 3rd party security software you use, the better your chances of foiling the hackers are. -
same here. the second with all the inbetweens, maes it much more realistic. only thing missing now is the police during races, and pulling you over between the races for illegal mods and speeding. let's have some of that in the next one. i also found the 1st one to be a bit boring after a while, and all i was concentrating on was finishing the 115 races. but with the second, i enjoy the races alot more, plus the new street-X and U.R.L. races gives it more of a balance. shall i go on? one more. having to start from scratch when you change your car. not just unlocking parts, but having to pay for them every time.

Photoshop Vs Paintshoppro Which Appliction do you use
Grafitti replied to arunkumarhg's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
yeah that's true. but i tried gimp. it was a bit unfamiliar, i admit, but it was just... not the quality i need. for the average person, it's great. but if you want to really work on high end stuff, Photoshop CS2 is unmatched. same as with openoffice, the only way i would use gimp as my main editor would be in a linux environment. -

OpenOffice Or Microsoft ? openoffice.org or Microsoft Office
Grafitti replied to JMC1405241503's topic in Software
ok, so i tried openoffice. it was ok, but the GUI is sort of irritating. i don't like it as much as MSoffice. i'll really give it a while before i try it again. the only reason i would use it is if i get my computer booting linux as well, in which case i would use it for that. sorry, but microsoft still is better ------- as long as you have the cash. -
if you want to securely store your passwords, i use KeePass. get it at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ but i don't think it monitors the IE windows and inserts the passwords. but for the security aspect it's pretty good. --uses 256 bit blowfishand you can have a key pairing system to open so that even if they know one password they still get stuck.

Approx How Big Is A 1minute Movie File? ...
Grafitti replied to coconut_ddd's topic in Websites and Web Designing
you'll do better if you can use some sort of video compression. the clips on camera aren't always the best compressed. if it's just for personal clips and you're not concerned about the high quality or large pixel size. even movie maker is pretty good at that. though if your camera records to the .mov format you'll run into problems. but otherwise you can specify size, quality, what connection you want to optimise the video for, etc. you can get anything from 256k to 3MB per minute size. fiddle around and find a compromise between size and quality that you're happy with. -
i would buy from a refurbished dealer with a good rating. one who spells out clearly what their policy is on the standard of the used items they sell, and their replacement policy. most have at least a month warranty, which should be enough time if something will go wrong. you can get something for less than half price there. check out http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ you can find some of the best prices for almost any hardware you can think of.

for me, due to constant internet problems, it's a never-ending struggle to keep my site up. by the time i'm finally able to connect, i realise i only have half a day left on my credits. i have a friend who is hosted at Xisto, and it seems to me that his account loses its days slower. Neways i'm not complaining, and since i'm also going to go on vacation soon, i'll just have to find a cyber cafe with a good connection and try to get a month's worth of hosting, jsut in case.

The reason why other sites have no page loaded when you access them, but only a directory listing, is because they don't have any sort of default.* or index.* page loaded. if you delete all pages that begin with that, you'll get the same simple dir listing.

Windows Xp Vs. Linux Which one do you prefer?
Grafitti replied to Airlub's topic in Websites and Web Designing
In that case i would classify myself with the nerds, at least for now. i'm trying to work on learning it, so i ordered this Ubuntu distro. I wouldn't say i'm lost, as it uses a GUI similar to windows, but it's definitely unfamiliar territory. But what's the opinion on that version? As you said, there are too many versions to choose from. -
It hasn't arrived yet. ---one of those ones where you sign up for the connection and they supply the router. hopefully in a day or two they'll be here to set it up, and i'll post the specs. i had thought though of making one computer the gateway for all the others. would that work?p.s. i know linux would be faster, but i can't install that because i know only the very basics of it, and everyone else here knows absolutely NOTHING. even on windows they have a hard time.

So i have 12 computers i just bought, all with XP Pro, and i need to connect 6 of them to the internet, and not the other 6. but they all need to be on the network. so how do i go about doing this? i've not recieved clear answers on this from anyone i've asked. how can i prevent some of the computers from accessing the internet through the always on connection, but permit them to communicate with each other over the network? is there a program available, or is it possible to do it simply through the registry and windows settings?any help or advice is much appreciated.to give a more clear picture, i want to keep the computers used by the kids off limits to the internet. but they are used as work computers sometimes as well, so is there a way to consistently allow network access, but password access to internet?

aside from when they switched their domain from http to https, i've had no trouble with their mail service. its the fastest i've seen, and the ads aren't annoying, as opposed to other mail services like yahoo. if i want to send an .exe file, all you have to do is rename the extension to something else, and just write a note saying what to change it back to. like give it a .jpg extension. or zip it. i think all the hullabaloo over gmail's snooping is highly overrated. no, i don't think that they're angels and not sticking their noses into everyone's mail, but at the same time they let you know that they'll do that. you're not forced to sign up for an account with them. whereas others like yahoo, hotmail and probably every other service, they don't make these announcement that they're scanning and filing your mail, but i'll bet my laptop that they do. why wouldn't they? this kind of information nowadays especially is valuable. and i think this makes it worse because you think you're safe in your bubble, and no one is reading your mail. So encrypt it, whatever your service.

I use Ad-aware SE 1.06 and it catches alot of stuff. of course a single program wouldn't catch everything, so every now and then i run Search and Destroy, and Hijackthis!, and clean everything out that adaware didn't find. i'm not a fan of microsoft antispyware. aside from things of theirs i need to use like windows and office, i shy away from anything they've bought and taken over.

Windows Xp Vs. Linux Which one do you prefer?
Grafitti replied to Airlub's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Possibly you have a point about OSes other than windows running better. however for the vast majority of people, Windows still is more user-friendly. compare it to a car that needs regular tune-ups, but runs fine most of the time.a little of everything, part off-road, part clunker, part racer. does no job perfectly, but all average. that's what most people are looking for. -
OpenOffice Or Microsoft ? openoffice.org or Microsoft Office
Grafitti replied to JMC1405241503's topic in Software
Even if Openoffice gets ahead of Microsoft, it'll be a hollow victory. Because i'm sure if it emerged as a serious competitor, Microsoft would step in and take measures legal or illegal to secure the huge market they have for Microsoft Office.I prefer the M$ Office Suite myself. that said, i believe in trying everything at least once, so i'll try Openoffice as well. -
Killing An Os By Partitioning? Is this possible?
Grafitti replied to loganbest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
i tried it a few times on a computer, and only once did i get a clean partition with all the files intact. i only tried 98 and XP, though, so i wouldnt know if 2000 is different. -
i have a creative zen touch as well. the battery life is as long as advertised....a refreshing change. i also figured i wouldn't use it for movies. why ruin the experience when you can watch it on ur tv, computer, or laptop? but for music it's become indispensable.downside is that you can't take out the lithium battery. i guess you have to take it in to an authorised dealer to change it if it goes dead, but for the price... worth it.i paid $270 for the 20 GB model.

Push the Windows key and the pause/break key together. Go to Advanced>Performance>Settings>Advanced>Virtual Memory>Change.Check the "custom size" box, and enter the new size desired. Reboot to apply changes. It'll be faster if you put the virtual memory on a separate drive than the one where your windows installation is. if not, then put it on a seperate partition, preferably D: (if your windows installation is on C:) theory being that the closer the scratch disk is to the inside, the faster the disk turns and quicker access for read/write ops. your "ideal" virtual memory should be 1.5 times larger than your physical ram. but sometimes it isn't enough, and you can set it to up to 4 GB.

LOL! it does sound like an insane thing, but just so you see i'm not making it up, check this tech support thread http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

i'm not the best person to ask as my knowledge of flash is rather low, but there ARE SWF rippers that can rip the content out of your "protected" flash pages.

i tried a freeware program called RATdvd, which compresses about four or five DVDs onto one DVD. the format is proprietary, but all you need to do is install the player and hook up your laptop to your tv or projector. then if you want to convert back to normal dvd format, the program can do that as well. it's great for space saving. there's of course a loss of quality, but not as bad as the other programs you've been mentioning.

Building A Budget Gaming Pc how would you build a gaming pc?
Grafitti replied to discharges's topic in Software
Though aren't there certain games that are built to run better on a certain processor? i think the benefit of AMD is that for an equivalent Intel chip you would pay twice the price. But the downside is that AMD chips have a problem with overheating. it's not really such an issue though, extra fans come cheap. To borrow from a well-known analogy, the difference between AMD and Intel is this:your data to be processed represents 100 people that need to get to their destination. the Intel bus holds 50 people and makes two trips, while the AMD bus holds 20 and makes 5 trips, but in the same amount of time. basically a 6-to-1-half-dozen scenario. I run all Intel P4 chips, but only because AMD support here is very limited. I just ordered a gaming machine with these specs: P4 3.0Ghz 800 Mhz FSB HT supported 1 GB Kingston DDR2 PCI-Express Geforce PCX 6600 OC 128MB 128bit DDR3 200 GB SATA hard disk Intel 945 motherboard 17" CRT Philips 107E monitor total cost: $950
