That's true, the iPod is more a fashion icon. I personally don't like them, if only for that fact. then, I also don't like that you need to install all the software to run them. what if you want to link to a friends computer and stick something on? you've got to install all the software to run it. The same goes for the creative zen, which i have one of. i love the thing, and the 24 hour battery life is awesome, but the same problem. when you want to hook it up, gotta install tehir proprietary software. What i would buy, if i could afford it again, would be the I-river. that is a great Mp3 player, costs only slightly more, and have many more functions than the zen. plus it's simply plug-and-play and extremely fast. definitely the Mp3 player of choice. Don't go with the no-name brands unless you have a friend who personally recommended it to you. They have bad warranties, cheap parts, and can be difficult to repair.

Don't know anyone who uses Gmail????? Hello!!!!Just about all of us have Gmail, and more than 90% of those who do are more than happy with it. There is a site in the states, unfortunately i don't remember the name, they were offering 1 terabyte email storage, and 50 MB attachment size. Something to do with bikers. Run a search on Google and see if you can find it, or maybe someone else here knows about it. They are a bit sparse in some things, like no POP forwading, but if you're after size, and for free, they've got it.

Good Choice!!! Kaspersky is worlds better than Norton, though I say that as an out-and-out enemy of Norton products. Forget about actually USING your computer if you're running their stuff. That said, Kaspersky is quite the hog as well. I tried them both and came away dissatisfied. Than after trying eztrust, mcafee, panda, and others, I found my latest baby... NOD32. Anti-virus program with (so far, in my experience) the lowest resource usage, even with full real-time scanning enabled, updates at least once a day for the latest viruses, and has won awards for best detection of wild viruses. Can't get better than that. ...though they could, with a firewall included. That's the only downside.

There is a downside to that, however, which is that it's risky if your files aren't exactly 100% correct. Changing anything in windows that has to do with startup or registries or anything like that should only happen after you've backed up important stuff, or are able to troubleshoot and resolve errors through the rescue mode. If the boot file is improperly written, you could have problems with constant rebooting, never getting past the screen.What I have done though is install bootskin from stardock applications. it's freeware, and there are tons of available bootskins. then to make my own i simple edited one of the available ones, and saved it as a different file. Then preview it in the bootskin preview windows, and troubleshoot any mistakes u made. All you need for that is an editing program that can save to 8-bit bmp color mode.

well I sort of aimed that question at Hatim, as he does believe in God, and i was trying to explore that thread. But as far as proving the existence of God, why is it called a "faith" in the first place? If it could be all spelled out plain and simple then it wouldn't be faith anymore. When all is said and done, Hatim and I both believe in the same God, so it isn't necessarily doomed to failure. But that doesn't mean that God doesn't leave signs for us. Have you read Michael Drosnin's "The Bible Code"? Explain to me how the bible code could have been encrypted without a God, or if you don't like that term, then some sort of much higher intelligence who has predicted the future.

I've used Audacity, Cakewalk Home Studio, Adobe Audition, Cool Edit Pro, and Sonar. Since audio editing isn't my thing, i didn't really have a favorite program, but since i do video editing with Adobe Premiere, i've defaulted to just mixing my audio trakcs there as well. it's pretty detailed and easy to use, but you can only export to wav. Though there are a host of wav2mp3 convertors available, so that's only a minor shortcoming

Yeah I do have a question related to a side-thread of yours. You say God is one and never had any son or daughter. Catholics say that God is one, and three at the same time. I go along with that viewpoint because in Genesis it says God created them in His image, male and female. That points to at least two distinct personalites.

If you have only an OEM version of Windows, then you're allowed only a limited number of installs. Correct that, you can install it as many times as you want, but i think you only get 5 WGA registrations. Doesn't make sense, I know, but that's whati heard....complaints from people who had a licensed copy of Windows, but had just completed a 6th reformat or reinstall, and all of a sudden, no more registrations. Well, what does it really matter? If you DO have an original non-pirated copy of windows, call tech support, or do it yourself. there are oodles of bypasses available.

You can try uninstalling it, and then totally cleaning out the registry of anything related to it. That could mess up the computer though if you make one wrong move. Have you looked in the task manager if anything else starts up when you start photoshop? as it could be some virus that's attached to the photoshop executable file. Another thing that can really slow down the computer is if there are any documents waiting to be printed that you may have printed from Photoshop. Once the queue is deleted, it generally speeds up pretty quick.i have to say though that i never had memory problems with it either.

I agree that GIMP is a great freeware program, and powerful enough. But it can't compare to photoshop. Photoshop is inherently more powerful, and that's why it's a professional graphics solution. If GIMP was really as good as Photoshop, then graphics studios would be using that instead. No, i think the only thing that could compare to Photoshop is Corel, though I'm not a Corel fan. But if you don't have the insane amount of cash to bust on Photoshop, GIMP is as good as they come.

On my 2.66 Ghz 1GbRam laptop, i get to the login screen in @ 40 seconds, then another 10 seconds to load services and startup items. Not bad. aggressive use of the startup cleaner in msconfig is what did it for me. also going to services and disabling ones i never use.

By the time i've got 30 gigs of messages archived, my google box will be way past that. right now my incoming messages take up space relative to how fast my box grows...I'm stuck at 2% used. at that rate i'll never fill it up. I would give them a bit of time to get established before i trusted all my mail there.

well i'm not exactly of that opinion. I do think that Windows inherently is a bit weak, but you can take steps to rectify that problem. I never had Office giving me errors, and rarely do i get a blue screen. Sure there's spyware in Windows, but you can et into the registry and delete or disable that. And who's to say that other OS's don't come bundled with spyware as well? Just because we don't know @ it doesn't mean that for sure there's nothing there. If you set it up right, the permissions and security is safe as any other program. Are we saying now that windows is the only poor security OS? And maybe it's true that Windows dosen't do much to educate the average computer user as to how the program works, but so what? Most people don't have the ability or time to learn. Plus it's a lot easier. Why do most people in the states drive automatics? Stick them in a car with manual gears and they won't get anywhere. that doesn't mean that automatics are bad, or that the people using them are ignorant drivers. It's simply a means of getting more people to get more places faster. Then for the ones in the know, and those whose passion is motors, we have stick shifts. Sure we possess an advantage over the automatics users, but it doesn't make them dummies. That's possible if you're simply running windows and nothing else. If you have good 3rd party antivirus and DEP protection, you don't have to worry about that. NOD32, for example, has an extremely high virus detection rate, even for unknown ones, and super heuristics. Scanning your mail as it downloads, it doesn't let stuff install. And tiny pro firewall will ask you for a confirmation anytime it senses some program is going to install, send or write stuff to the registry. That's safe enough in my opinion.

If you got Ubuntu from the guys who send it to you free of charge, there's 2 cds. one actual installer, and one that is a live cd, where you can test it without actually installing and wiping. but it says on the cd that if you are going to install it that t'll wipe your drive. plain & simple. there's supposed to be an option to dual boot it too but for that you need to have a clean drive and install windows or whatever afterwards. NEways i think ubuntu is a simple easy and relatively reliable distro to start out with. LOL, ALWAYS make backups of your data before you touch anything related to registry or OS changes.

I think that Frontpage is almost the simplest thing you can find, then Go Live is a bit above average, and Dreamweaver is simply tops. there are probably a few functions that go live does better than dreamweaver, but overall, dreamweaver is much more of a powerhouse. Still, i keep them both on my computer, because when you're trying to create web pages quickly, you can drag the layouts in. I'm not a coder, i prefer the visual approach, so that's probably why.

But neither is it for the XP Pro edition. Win2000, NT, and Server seem more likely to have this implemented at installation.

I believe that password expiration is not the default install option of Windows XP. I never was faced with that either.

To add to that, i'd like to point out that just as in battle the attacker will go for the weakest spot, so it is with windows users. they're the weak spot, so they get attacked the most. but if there wasn't windows to go after, well then, it would be linux or mac who would take the brunt. and because these systems are supposedly "safer", the level of expertise of the one who would be cracking them would be much higher, and most likely the malware would be more sophisticated. All you Mac and Linuxers, just be glad there's Microsoft to attract the attention of most of the masses, otherwise it would be you.Since we know that most people have no inkling of how to run a computer other than with the windows GUI, isn't it safe to say that if there wouldn't have been any windows we would be in a far less advanced state technologically than we are now? Because whether or not the masses understand how it works, they know how to run it for the one or two things they use it for in their business, and that saves countless man-hours. multiply that by millions of people, and see how far we would be along today without it. If you use the right programs, and modify XP somewhat to suit your particular whims, it can be just as safe as Linux.

that's true. bittorrent sites are going down like crazy. but........there still will be those sites in countries with proper laws, that don't forbid it. and once bittorrent goes down, there will come up something new and better. Bittorrent is already a great improvement over Kazaa, so i anticipate something even better. i've never had problems from viruses and trojans using bittorrent. just scan all your files on download completion.

Not good idea. i asked about it before for my laptop.It's really not worth it for the slight increase you'll gain in power, and having to deal with increased heat issue, high fan speeds and noise, shorter component life, etc. basically what i think it boils down to is that there just isn't the appz for properly cooling down overclocked pieces in the confined space of a notebook.

I found firefox to be rather unreliable when downloading large files. especially the "resume" feature, i have yet to fully download a file after resuming. --the same thing with IE, of course. then with the constant power cuts around here, and me not having a backup UPS, I find it convenient to use a download manager that will resume anywhere it gets cut off.

well usually there's a big gap because of two reasons. one, you have enormous files that can't fit. like i have pgp virtual disks that are 4 GB or larger, but windows reads them as a single file, and consequently will stick them far apart from the rest of the data on the drive. the other reason is usually because your pagefile is on the same drive, and windows won't move it. to do a proper scan and defragmentation, you need to disable virtual memory, even though the computer tells you it'll crash, restart it, defrag, and then enable virtual memory again, then restart and it will be in it's proper place (hopefully). but that's an important part because you should defrag your system every month or so, along with the space reserved for the pagefile, so that the computer will run error-free.the windows default defragmenter works fine, and you can get to the other old-style one from boot. or use perfectdisk which gives you the same graphical interface, and alot more options, but at a price.
